Just got back yesterday from my first Disney Cruise on the Disney Dream. As a Central Florida resident since the 70s, I've overdosed on the Magic Kingdom and the rest of the Disney parks. They no longer hold that much appeal for me. That said, this cruise was nothing short of phenomenal.

It certainly helped that my parents paid for my family (as well as my sister's) to go on the cruise. However, even if I had to come out of my own pocket, I can say it would have been worth every penny. The service was spectacular everywhere. Our dining room servers, Carlos and Alex, were friendly and efficient and truly made the experience magical for our 8-year-old.

The Aquaduck, Villains Show, and the 687 sports bar were definite highlights of the trip. It was a slight bummer that the weather cancelled our stop to Castaway Cay, but it is a strong tribute to the Disney Dream that they put safety first and that we weren't bored for one second despite this unforeseen and unavoidable inconvenience.

If you have kids (or don't mind being around a screaming horde of them), you simply must take a cruise on the Disney Dream. It may hit you hard in the wallet, but you won't regret it for a second.

We just returned from a 5-night cruise to the Bahamas aboard the Disney Dream. This was our second Disney cruise and the experience was consistent with the first cruise aboard the Wonder.

It's really hard to find fault with what Disney does. Yes, it's expensive, but you know that the second you decide to book the cruise. I'd rather pay less, of course, but they do try to earn your money from the get-go.

Check-in experience was painless and we spend a half-day on the ship before it left Port Canaveral. Our check-in time was to be between 3:00 and 3:30, but we had no choice but to arrive very early and Disney accommodated us. We were on the boat before lunch.

The food is fine; there are certain limitations when you're trying to put out 16,000 meals a day on a ship and that shows occasionally. No worries -- you can eat your brains out if you'd so desire. (Although, happily, if you're looking for healthier options...they are plentiful.)

The cabins are large, comfortable and cleaner than clean. The split bathrooms are handy and the beds are wonderful. Our room steward was ever present and the rooms were attended at least twice a day.

The ship itself was massive. Going anywhere involved a nice walk...that is the biggest difference between the Dream and the Wonder. Sheer size. Despite the larger number of passengers, there were plenty of places to escape the crowds.

Onboard entertainment was excellent. First-run movies were Cars 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean, naturally. The shows in the Walt Disney Theatre were a magic/comedy act, Cars 2, a review of Disney villains called Villains Tonight and a new show called Disney Believe.

There was also the Pirates deck party, fireworks, shows in the adult area, family game shows, etc., etc.

If anyone does it better, show me. I was really, really impressed.

Pools and such - good, as cruise ships go. They have a kiddie pool, a family pool, adult pool, hot tubs, water slide and the Aqua-Duck water coaster.

The pools are crowded, as you would expect. The crowds go away during the dinner hours and the pool deck is wide open during those times.

The Aqua-Duck....honestly, it's remarkable. It would be terrific on dry land, but the fact that it's on (and off the side) of a cruise ship is simply amazing. Forget any talk about it being too slow - it ain't. It's great.

A tip.....on the sea day, the Golden Mickeys are performed three times a day. Hit the 3:00 pm show and then head to the Aqua-Duck during the dinner and show hours. Me and our seven-year old nabbed eight Duck rides with next to no waiting that way.

More to say, but will wrap it up on a final note....the staff of the Disney cruise ships are as friendly, as helpful and as accommodating as any people in customer service. You rotate restaurants with your servers and you genuinely like them and wish them well when the week is done.

Went on the new Disney Dream ship with Yelpers Viviana F. and Wesley S.  Previously, I had traveled on Disney's other cruise ship and they don't even compare to the new Disney Dream.  Amazing!

The new stage shows offer special effects not available on the older ships, which I absolutely adored.

Animator's Palate is completely different on this ship than the Magic or Wonder.....it even has a different theme.

Wesley and I checked out the adult only areas and there was one club after another.  Also in the adult only section is a coffee & tea restaurant that is not to be missed.  It was some of the best tea I've ever experienced.  It was an experience, not just a drink.

The aquaduck coaster was amazing.  Tip:  Ride this immediately after boarding the ship to avoid insanely long lines.

This was my second Disney Inaugural cruise and like a fine wine, they keep getting better with time.

Yelper Viviana's review was so complete I don't know what else to mention.  Except for this....we need to do it again!!

Disney Cruises are, for lack of a better term, MAGICAL.

To date, I have been on five:
    2007 - Disney Wonder - 3 night - Bahamian
    2008 - Disney Wonder - 3 night - Bahamian
    2009 - Disney Wonder - 3 night (x2) - Bahamian
    2009 - Disney Magic - 7 Night - Western Caribbean

Each one is even better than the last!  I have been with friends, my mom, my sister - then the last two were with my then-BF (became fiance! - he proposed on the February 2009 cruise) and then we took our honeymoon on the December 2009 7-night cruise...seriously, this proves something that DCL advertises; whether you're a family, a couple, a group of friends or even yourself (saw tons of solo cruisers!) you are going to have a blast!

Really, there is not a lot more that I can say that hasn't already been said (besides that review from Paul M. down there - it's hard for me to believe anyone could have that terrible of an experience EVER, ANYWHERE, but to each his own!) but I have to say, if you want a vacation that illicits NO stress whatsoever and takes you to beautiful destinations all the while, the Disney Cruise Line is for you.

Cruised on the Disney Dream Inaugrual Cruise January 31 - 3, 2011 for the AEP Training! AWESOME ship! AWESOME cruise!!

It was my very first Disney Cruise! It was my 3rd cruise total.  I love being a Disney Travel Specialist! It is the best job ever.  It is my FUN job.  LOL.

I have done travel agent touring of the Disney Wonder in December 2010 just before it left for the west coast.   The Wonder was beautiful.

The Dream is GORGEOUS! WOW! I loved the rotational dining which you will not find on any other cruise line.  The three dining rooms were beautiful and each one completely differently themed.   Animator's Palate was unbelievable!

The food was delicious and plentiful.

The beds were sooooo comfortable.  It was like sleeping on a cloud.  The rooms were beautiful and I loved the convenience of the Wave phones! Wow...what a great idea.

The Aquaduck was a BLAST! The kid's areas and the teen area was so cool.  I would love to be a kid again.

There are plenty of adult only areas too.  Much more so than on the other cruises I have done.  Also, the kids are watched more closely here.  They are not running wild on the Disney cruise as on other cruiselines.

The Broadway quality shows were great.  The entertainment was wonderful.

Cannot say enough wonderful things about my cruise on board the Disney Dream.  It is by far the BEST cruise I have been on.  I do not think I will be able to enjoy a lesser cruise line now.  :)

(Note: This review is specifically about the Disney Dream cruise ship, sailing out of Port Canaveral, FL.)  This was a wonderful experience.  The ship has Old World elegance and beautiful art deco designs throughout.  The staterooms have a wonderful old-school feel, plus the separate rooms for the toilet and shower, both with sinks, is very convenient with multiple people in the room.  There're several modern bars/nightclubs in "The District" area, which is adults-only in the evening.  (A "family nightclub" is located right nearby.)

A few notes about some of the locations/events on the ship:
-- Castaway Cay, Disney's private island, is a lot of fun, with loads of activities and room to roam.  There's also plenty of seating for beach chairs and restaurants.
-- The Enchanted Garden restaurant is very beautiful and very Disney, but the food is only 'okay' for the most part.
-- The Royal Palace restaurant feels somewhat more like a regular cruise dining room, although the food is richer and a princess or two do a drive-by during the meal.
-- The Animators' Palate restaurant is lively and wide open.  The digital screens and interactive videos/performances are a great time for kids and adults.
-- There's no formal night on this cruise, but there's a "semi-formal" night if you choose to participate.  (There's no pressure to do so.)
-- Guests and crew really get into "Pirate Night."  Pirate bandanas are passed out to everyone, but expect to see a lot of your fellow cruisers in full pirate garb they brought with them.
-- The fireworks were relatively simplistic, especially compared to the amazing Disney fireworks in Orlando.  That said, it's still a fun event, and unique among cruise lines.
-- The disembarkation smoothness depends on the detail-orientation of the staff handling your section of baggage.  (Finding your bag could be straightforward by stateroom number or the complete chaos of no order.)  Other than that, simply expect a Disney-length line to get through Customs.

Also, the staff is outstanding for the most part -- as friendly and efficient as you'd expect from Disney.  They really work to spoil you on service.

One word of caution: when you do have to pay for things, remember that you're at Disney.  It will be expensive, so just expect it and know what you're willing to pay a lot for.  Except for in the gift shops -- interestingly, the prices in the gift shops are actually better than at the regular Disney properties.

Aww Disney, I love you.  My cruise on the Disney Wonder (Bahamas, November 28-Dec 2) was magical.

    Why?

--Amazing Disney Broadway shows.  The stage was amazing.  So many effects.  State of the art!  Great performances.  The performers are cute also.

--One to one ratio of crew member to guest.  Loved our food servers who traveled from dining room to dining room with us.  Loved the stateroom hosts that cleans twice a day and do towel animals every night.

    --The destinations were gorgeous.

--On this particular cruise, most people were in bed by 10 pm.  I would walk around the top decks and not see people or only a handful and just have the whole deck to read and take in the warm night air and ocean breeze.  After midnight, it's almost always completely empty except for staff and some people walking around sometimes.

--There are several theater that plays Disney movies.  I like the inside one.

--I felt safe on this cruise and the people are so nice.  The family we sat with at dinner bought our bingo card (the family pack) and we shared the winnings, $300 +.  So generous (Lisa's family).

--Dining was very good.  I really expected a lot.  A little disappointed but not really.  It would be nice to have other cultural options other than European and American.  More Asian/Latin American/African/Middle Eastern dishes would have been nice.  I really liked the food; it just felt a little repetitive.

--Free room service.  Drinks are free if it's bottled or canned.

--The tipping wasn't bad.  They totally deserve the suggested tip and more.

This was without question the worst travel experience of my life. We were on Disney Magic with friends, between the six adults we had been on about 140 cruises. We know whereof we speak. Let me tell you three things:

    1. The food was a nightmare. The only place any good was the Venetian restaurant where you have to pay extra to get in. After the third day my buddy and I made an appointment to complain with the purser, who was a Welsh guy. His response:

" yeah - usually Europeans don't like the food - we are catering for the people from middle America who think a good night out is eating meat loaf at the diner."

    2. My kids hated the kids program - they much preferred Celebrity. To be blunt the people working there do not make much of an effort and the company thinks that getting a Romanian college student to dress up as Minnie Mouse provides entertainment for kids. At Celebrity and RCL the people working the kids programs make waaaay much more of an effort to entertain and engage the kids - Disney get too much of a free pass because of the characters.

    3. The only thing the staff were obsessed with was getting 5 out of 5 on your satisfaction cards - so much so that they herded everyone into the theater at the end to practically beg for scores of 5 or else they would all get fired. It was sad - and also insulting. The restaurant chief made sure to come and get my comments card from me personally and I am sure that ended up in the round filing cabinet.

This is an absolute total and complete rip-off - they are trading on the brand. Other cruise lines offer much more for much less, and my guess is that everyone giving postive reviews here simply has not been on another Cruise line.

Hands down the best vacation of my life.

My wife and I (no kids) don't get a ton of vacation days, so when we decide to vacation you better believe we do a heck of a lot of research. When we decided to take a cruise I immediately dove into looking at the advantages and disadvantages to each cruise line.

Without any kids you'd think we were bound to discount Disney as an option. You're wrong. With about 1/3 of the ship dedicated to adults only, larger staterooms, and the largest proportion of rooms with balconies I knew we'd have plenty of quiet time.  The ships, when compared to other lines are not the biggest either. Disney comes in around 80,000 tons. When compared to Royal Caribbean ships tipping the scales at over 150,000 tons, suddenly I feel claustrophobic.. However, most of that space on both ships is taken up by state rooms that aren't yours anyway. Plus, having visited Disney parks in the past I knew that the work ethic and cleanliness would carry over to the boat. I was not let down.

We decided on the quick three night Bahamian cruise and booked online through Disney.  The terminal in Port Canaveral was clean, brightly colored, and swarming with Disney characters. A great treat! We checked in and were onboard in just under 15 minutes. That is quite a feat considering the number of guests embarking. After a quick lunch at the buffet, which was delicious our room was ready as was just as described.

Each night we rotated to a new restaurant and our same watier came with us. The food in the main dining room was good, but not exceptional. On our last night we dined at Palo, which is a 18+ dining experience that costs just a little extra. The service and food was fantastic. What a great way to celebrate our last night at sea. If you're on the fence about dining here because of the extra charge...do it!

The best part about a Disney cruise is Castaway Cay. Its a private island owned and operated by Disney. Unlike other cruise lines private islands, only Disney goes here and they pull up right to the beach. No tendering! Labadee is Royal and Celebritys private island which I think is a joke. Its not actually an island, its a part of Hati and I dont believe the staff is hired by the cruise lines. They're reportedly very abrasive and are constantly trying to sell you something.

Castaway Cay has an adults only white sand beach that is on the other side of the island from the family beach called serenity bay. I spent all day laying in a hammock and floating in the water. The best vacation day I've ever had!

To sum it up - don't be afraid to try Disney if you don't have kids. The advantage to DCL is that they have the disney corp reputation behind them. The ships and beach facilities are always show ready.  To give kids and adults their own space they sacrificed things you might normally see on a cruise ship, like a casino, but I didn't mind. I just spent that money elsewhere - like the spa!

Lastly, Disney is the only line to not charge a fuel surcharge (yet) AND they offer free soda 24hrs a day. So, when you're comparing costs and Disney seems more expensive, remember to take that into acct.

Jack & I just returned from the Disney Magic's last Mexican Riviera cruise out of San Pedro. This was our third DCL voyage. Again it was a magical experience. Upon embarking, all passengers were met by crew in dress uniform and their family name was announced. I immediately spotted Diana from Germany and greeted her. She gave us all hugs. We then went up to Signals, the adult pool bar and were greeted by a bar tender who had met us the previous journey though he was not one of our "main" bar tenders. He told us where our other favorites were working. We again received excellent service, again were magical family of the week. We met old friends and made new ones on the staff.

The food was again excellent. Even the buffet selections and the pizzas had flavor. After our waiter found out we liked Indian food, he had the head chef prepare some for us each night. The 7 days went to quickly. But we'll be back upon the Magic  in February 2009.

The BF and I got back this weekend from a seven day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean and I can honestly say it was the best vacation of my life. Ever. Best. Vacation. Ever.

We sailed on The Disney Magic, but there is also the Disney Wonder. Our ship sails the Eastern Caribbean mostly and the Wonder does the Western.

I was worried about spending seven days with screaming children and their parents, who obviously don't understand the directions on a pack of condoms, but my fears were unfounded. The kids were there, it is Disney afterall, but so much of the ship is dedicated to singles that the munchkins didn't really bother us.

The ship is drop dead gorgeous, styled after those great old ships that used to cross the Atlantic in the forties. Everything is art deco! The food was amazing and the staff was unbelievable. I'm usually very short-fused with customer service folks, but the Disney team was jaw droppingly fast and friendly at everything.

At our last night at dinner Poodle found a small bug in his soup and when we got to the airport for our departure we discovered Disney had upgraded us to first class for the flight home! Disney customer service is the most stellar in the industry. And for good reason!

We had three days at sea, and three excursions. I thought St. Maarten was disgusting. There were chickens wandering around and we saw folks sitting in mud puddles. I bought a cheapo watch that fell apart the afternoon we stepped back on the ship. I wonder if it was made in china.....

St. Thomas and St. John were gorgeous. We went on a hike and spent the afternoon on a sun drenched beach called Honeymoon Beach, where Lauren Becall and Humphrey Bogart had their, wait for it, honeymoon. The travel channel lists this beach as one of the most beautiful in the world.

The last stop was Disney's private island called Castaway Cay. It was amazing. We went parasailing and it was awesome (and I'm afraid of heights!). We laid up on the adults only beach and drank tropical drinks and napped and swam. It was like The Blue Lagoon except there was no Brooke Shields. And I don't look like Christopher Atkins. And there was no sex. I mean, I wanted to....but there were lots of families around and I didn't bring any---wait, where was I?

Fellow Yelpers, I cannot recommend this enough. Cruising with Disney is pricey, I finished the entire trip at just over 2K--but it was worth every penny. If you're looking to cruise and dont' want to be on a floating retirement community, swinging couples or gay bathhouse cruise I highly recommend you try the Disney Cruise Line.

I just went on my second Disney cruise on Dec. 16 and it was another amazing trip! Disney has some advantages over other cruise lines like being able to take liquor on board & bigger state rooms. It's missing casinos which some may see as a downfall but I see as a very good point for me. Both times I've gone on the Disney Cruise Line it has been with adults only. There are many adults only areas on board as well as an adults only beach on Disney's private island Castaway Cay. I have never had an issue with loud or unruly children and honestly, I hardly even see them while sailing.

Disney has a very well organized terminal. I love being a repeat cruiser on the Disney Cruise Line because check-in takes about 5 minutes with their special line. I love walking through the Mickey Mouse head to get onboard, but I'm not the biggest fan of having my name announced and people clapping when I walk on the ship! haha

Both trips I have had an inside stateroom and it suits me just fine. The room is big enough for us and I love the separated bathrooms. It makes getting ready in the morning so much easier. They also have fantastic staff attending the rooms and you get to know them a bit during your trip.

I love the variety of activities there is to do onboard, starting with the sailaway party! Tons of tastings-wine, beer, martini, whiskey, and more. I personally like playing Bingo (B-11!), I like sitting by the Adults only pool when a musical act is playing pool side, they have an amazing spa, and I enjoy their many restaurants onboard. In my opinion, the coolest restaurant onboard is Animator's Palette and the restaurant with the best food is Palo...but without paying the extra $15 fee for that fine dining, it's Triton's or Lumiere's.  DCL has some of the best shows on a cruise ship nightly. I love the 24/7 room service, it's fantastic after coming back to your room from one of their 1st run 3-D movies (They played Tron on our ship at 12:01 on opening night!).  Their Pirates night is always fun, Disney is the only cruise line which has permission to have fireworks! They play some great movies on the TV right in your stateroom, too. They have more channels available then the TVs at the Disney resorts.

The newest addition on the ship are the Wave phones. They are a couple of cell phones in your room so you can keep in touch via text and phone calls with each other. However, don't lost it! It's a $250 replacement fee.

I highly recommend the Disney Cruise Line to all! It's the only cruise line I want to sail on.

I just got back from the Disney Dream Inaugural Benefit Cruise for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida which raised $750,000.00 for the charity!!  January 21-23.  This was my first Disney cruise.  I loved it even though the weather was not that great (rainy, cool and windy!).  We definitely knew we were on a ship as we were rocked to sleep each night!

The room was nice with two bathrooms, one with a bathtub, showerhead, sink and the other with a toilet and sink.  We had a Verandah room with queen bed and convertible sofa.  I love that the bed has a lot of room underneath to store luggage!  Unfortunately the people next to us smoked and it would drift over to our verandah  which was not cool since I'm allergic.

I wouldn't bother with the food on Deck 11 near the kids pool which is mostly pizza, wraps, burgers and chicken tenders.  Kid food basically.  Cabanas buffet also on deck 11 but at one of the ends was really good with roast beef, peel and eat shrimp, crab legs, and my favorite...lamb chops!  For our first nights dinner, we were assigned Royal Palace which was delicious.  I ordered the Cream of Cauliflower, Lobster and Shrimp appetizer, Filet of Beef with Lobster and Grand Marnier Souffle.  We also ate at Animator's Pallet the next night but I was not impressed with the food or the ambience.  I'm skipping this one next time.

I enjoyed Castaway Cay. We ended up on the family beach which was practically deserted due to all of the excursions being cancelled because of the wind and rough seas. A lot of people stayed on the ship. There were just a few of us who braved the chilly water but it was beautiful, turquoise water. Once I got used to the initial chill, it was heaven. Do wear water shoes though because the bottom has jagged rocks that hurt!  I ventured to the adult beach, Serenity Bay, to take a peek and I must say, I liked the family beach better.  Serenity Bay had more seaweed on the beach and in the water and it felt more jam packed even though there weren't that many people there.  If you do go, grab a spot further away towards the end of the beach. It looked brighter and more appealing over there and the water also had less seaweed.  I was only there a half an hour so I didn't bother but may try it next time.

The cruise staff was very friendly and helpful.  I can't wait to go on another Disney cruise!  Next time though, I'm going on a much longer one.  Two nights was way too short!  There's a lot I didn't get to see and do because there was not enough time.

Cast Members: You get your discount on board and I was able to get the holiday discount which was really nice!  You do not get any discounts on Castaway Cay though.

I am cruising with them on sept 19, 2009. I booked my cruise in oct 2008 thinking that early booking better rate. I checked today and the same cruise is 200.00 cheaper?? I immediately called our travel agent and they told me it was due to the fuel surcharge situation. I was still confused because here we are paid in full with an early booking and someone can come along today and book the same reservation but wont be charged a fuel surcharge?? how is that fair???
I then called DCL directly this morning and the person I spoke to pulled up my reservation and she told me that she saw $154.00 on my reservation will be given back as an onboard credit NOT A REFUND. I said to her are you sure b/c my agent did not tell me this. She said it is on my reservation. I asked her for something in writing showing this so I could show my travel agent and she told me b/c I did not book through DCL she could not do that I had to call my travel agent.
I then called my travel agent and they said that was not true. I then called DCL back and now they are telling me that the DCL agent i spoke to earlier gave the wrong information?? what is going on??? I am so disappointed with DCL are they only giving this credit to select people?? where did she get this information from?? and where would I pull that amount from? how would I know that amount??
When I called back again I spoke to a supervisor and she told me basically she cant help me... I wish I could cancel my cruise today.
We have cruised with you 2 other times. the last time we cruised with you our ship went on fire and we were without a children's pool for the last 2 days of our cruise. we were never complicated for this. here I am 6 years later giving it another shot and another disappointment on the DCL. I am so upset with your company policy.
I am sure that you are going to be sending me an email apologizing for all of this "but there is nothing we can do" I just had to get this off my chest..

I'm sorry, but I truly didn't feel like the $8K I paid for my vacation was worth the Disney brand name.  Maybe it was because we didn't have any children and couldn't take advantage of the kid amenities, but they advertised a lot of adult entertainment which I have to say was a little lacking.  For example, the Arts & Entertainment series that offered cooking classes, what a joke!  The chef spent 10 minutes cooking the dish and he was using a cheap plastic spoon to saute or stir.  Who the heck uses a plastic spoon (one that you get as if you were to eat a piece of pie at a Burger King) to cook?  When we did get to sample the dish the chef made, it was served to us cold and not very good.  But whatever, the journey was pleasant enough and the whole point was that we were there with other family members and spending time with them.  But what I will further complain about here is how they decided to be cheap and book flights for Orlando that were not nonstop.  When we had to disembark at the break of dawn early Saturday morning to make our way to the airport, our flight was delayed going to Atlanta, and we didn't make our next flight out of Atlanta out to SFO.  Not that flight delays are Disney's fault, but by not booking us a nonstop flight to begin with, you are asking for TROUBLE!  So we had to spend an extra 3 1/2 hours at the Atlanta airport waiting for a later flight back to SFO.  So after having woken up at 5 am EST (2 am PST), we didn't end up getting back home to Mountain View until 9 PM PST.  What a hellish day!!!!!!!!!

On a side note, I did thoroughly enjoy Disney's private island Castaway Cay and wouldn't mind going there again.  Another plus, was the service we received on the cruise by all the staff.  Another big plus, was their restaurant Palo's, the food is to die for and is just as unlimited as the rest of the food available on the cruise.  All of these were the highlights of the Disney cruise itself (not including our time spent with our wonderful family).

Absolutely wonderful vacation.  We took the Disney Magic last week and had a blast.  Great service, tons of activities for kids, and plenty of adult activities too.  Food was very good, prices for booze were reasonable, and shore excursions were aplenty.  Would do it again in a heartbeat, and my 5-year old daughter loved every minute of it.
