So one day I was strolling around Ballard and I was in one of those situations that your hungry but you don't know what your in the mood for. I just strolled into Dish D'lish .
Nothing really appealed to me and I am trying to figure out if this place was local or not but it turns out that the lady is a known local chief. I was about to leave until I saw this Bacon and cheddar Stratas...and this cute punk rock chick who started small talk with me . I didn't really know what I was ordering but Bacon and cheddar and that's good enough for me. It got heated up and ooo goodness , it was good. pardon my uncultured behind but I would describe it as what I would think what a souffle would be. It's a fluffy "breadey" egg with cheesy cheddar inside with chuncks of bacon.
The place was differently LA chick chic; it reminds me of Joan Rivers Bed room. (you haven't been?)
They have a patio AKA tables in the back with shrubs making a wall to block out that it's actually a parking lot and it's the ally way where the garbage cans are stored. I started to find company of nosy bee's and flys; so I headed back in .
But the staff was nice, It reminds me of pasta and co but more suited for dinning in. The Stratus was good but I feel this place was not for my audience and that punk girl was a rarity; It's very chic and if I had to stay in here longer I might start menstruating and I think I might be the only one due to everyone else in here is post-menopausal.
It's a good place to get the lady's together for a dine in.
I love this place. The large open windows, the chic interior, the whimsical back patio...and the great fresh sandwiches, salads, and treats. It is a bit pricey, and not the greatest hours.
But summer or winter, great to pop for lunch or a treat (I wouldn't especially recommend the coffee) - plus the marketing of overpriced delicious goodies makes the wait that much shorter.
It's okay. The hours are short and the prices significantly too expensive for fare that benefits a little too much from the Minnesota Spice Rack effect. (You know, salt and pepper.) Giving me shade about using the bathroom when i haven't left the place and just spent ten bucks? Not cool, guys.
Don't worry, though, it's toast. Supposedly closing in the near future, now the second non-airport location that Kathy couldn't hold onto. Shame, as she used to be so inspired.
Winter hours: 10:30 am -- 6 pm M-F. Not open on the weekends.
They have turned into a bank.

What a beautiful space, and what delicious food. Yes, I was there for a Yelp event but if they can entrance me with delightful little crabby buns (yes, I said "crabby buns") then I am definitely going to bring mine back for more.
I want my home to look like their event room and everyone who worked there was as nice as could be. And this was nice to a crowd who brought **Jell-o shots** to their establishment, so if they can put up with that, they can put up with a lot.
The first thing you notice are all of the delicious looking sauces and spreads that they sell in jars, bottles, and cans when you first walk in the door. Dish D'Lish isn't only a place where you go to have yummy food made for you...but also a place that helps you make yummy food too.
But I was on lunch and wanted something prepared. I got Kathy's D'Lish Favorite sandwich. It has roasted chicken breast (fresh), Brie, and a D'Lish apple chutney...all hot pressed and meltingly scrumptious. It was very tasty. My friend and I split the Fennel and Orange Chicken Salad. Also very tasty.
I will definitely be back....and you should try it too!
oh damn. 5 stars forreal?!
being a tourist in Seattle, i was looking for something to eat in the Ballard area, since i was there at the time. i come across Dish D'Lish and totally wet my panties.
i thought the cafe looked really cute! the light blue walls with the black and white framed posters, the black/white patterned seats, the chic white dishware... i was sold. i finally decided to have lunch there based strictly on the interior design cause i just KNEW it was going to be d-lish! (as their name states).
WROONNGG. the food was mediocre at BEST. i ordered the pacific rim chicken salad (thought it sounded good), but to my disappointment, it was a normal salad tossed in dressing, with some tangerines in it, sprinkled with black sesame seeds. oh yeah. and with like 6 pieces of chicken.
the apple chutney chicken sandwich with brie sounded good as well, but just like the pacific rim chicken salad, it was.. meh. in all honesty, i feel like this is a hang out spot for people over the age of 50, since it was packed with older women with their friends chitchatting over coffee and eating their food... not that there is anything wrong with that.
the cute decor and VERY nice/welcoming staff (the server always had a smile on his face) deserves 5 stars. the food, however... 2 stars. more like Dish D'saster.
P.S. - i also came in here thinking it was a unique cafe... untill i saw not one, but TWO Dish D'Lish at the Seattle Airport... totally not cute.
Usually I am not into cocktails but the ones I had here at the Yelp event were really good. Who thought I would like drink that had pine needles in it?
I loved the layout of the place and thought the old boat sign they had in there added a really nice touch to it.
I will come here again sometime and try the food.
Zipzap Zubidy Bop!
The food and drinks--everyone here has characterized Dish D'Lish well. The ambiance is great, too.
But for those of you who are concerned about sustainability issues in the places you frequent, Dish D'Lish doesn't do so well.
Everything is served up in unrecycleable plastic, plastic bags, or served with plastic utensils. Pretty common in eateries, but it's increasingly annoying to have a pile of plastic at the end of your meal. When asked for "for here" plates or cups, requests are often ignored, and (on last check) there wasn't even a recycling bin for glass or plastic bottles. Neither is there compost.
It seems to be well known amongst staff that Casey doesn't view sustainability as compatible with branding her products. Which is unfortunate, 'cause she's got great products in poor packaging.
If doing take out, consider bringing your own containers for "To-go-go" food and beverages.
When I saw the construction for Kathy Casey's Dish D'lish in Ballard, I was so excited. I was a frequent visitor to her location in the Market, and I have been ripping off many of her appetizer recipes for years. I also enjoy the restaurant in the new terminal at the airport.
And when I realized a kitchen would adjoin the shop? Oh, lawd, was my mouth watering. I envisioned huge cold cases filled with salads and appetizers and entrees just waiting to be taken home and warmed up ...
Whaaaa? Here's what I found in Ballard: A few salads. One entree, and that day it was lasagne. How boring. In the other case, dips and such. So I bought the chive and goat cheese spread, got it home and spread it on a water cracker, and it was bland, bland, bland.
everything looked so yummy in this place!!
had a chicken salad sandwich and it was fantastic!! what a concept that there is a place that actually uses big chunks of chicken in a chicken salad... i've had some chicken salads that look more like paste...BLEH!!!
highlight of my afternoon visit to this lovely establishment was the chocolate chip cookie i had with my meal... YUM!!!
i'd love to have lunch here again sometime... won't you join me?? : )
popped in here for lunch and coffee this afternoon. tasty sandwiches, excellent selection of jams, chutneys, etc. was perhaps a bit disappointed that the sandwiches were pre-made and tossed into a microwave rather than prepared on the spot... but that didn't detract from the taste. i like my latte hot but had to wait a good 20 minutes for the one i ordered to cool down. smartly decorated albeit perhaps a bit too chic/overwrought for my own taste.
I just stopped in here for coffee and a snack. The chocolate chip cookie was yummy, the latte was just ordinary. The americano my dad got was watery and blah. I'll return though because the food and salads looked worthy of a try and the bright, cheery decor was a pleasurable respite on a rainy day.
O.k. I first will admit, I have never actually eaten in this restaurant, I guess it is more of a cafe. And this is the first time I have even thought about it actually, but I don't really feel like I would want to eat in there. It is kind of a cold environment and not somewhere I would hang out in for a long time. But for takeout, I like this place alot. If I am working in the neighborhood, I stop here all the time for takeout sandwiches. The food is fresh and tasty. The sandwich with chicken, brie and chutney is super yummy and I love the chicken salad with tarragon and arugula. The bread is always fresh and they make them on the spot. They also make hot sandwiches, panini style. The smores cookies are worth a stop alone. If you want a quick sandwich to go, this is the place, so much better than the Other Coast. But I can't speak for their hot food, salads or soups. Have a sandwich, a cookie and a smile.
Don't get me wrong, I love historic Ballard's cobblestone streets and old building architecture, but it's nice to have clean trendy options too. Its always hard to find a yummy and healthy option that is inexpensive and convenient. So, that is why I love this new cafe! Just down the block, its a great place to meet up for lunch and I plan on buying some gifts here as well. Actually, I've already used their packaged retail food stuff for great party appetizers. Maybe I will buy some rose petal preserves for Mother's Day coming up. I definitely recommed checking this place out for quality sandwiches, their cold case by-the-pound sides & entrees, and the foodie retail.
