I've stayed here several times over the years.  For those people who don't want to stay in the thick of what is the ultra-touristy Friday Harbor, this is a nice and quiet refuge.

When on San Juan Island, I tend to spend a lot of time near the Lime Kiln State Park and sitting along the cliffs on the way from Friday Harbor to Lime Kiln (waiting for Orcas, of course).  This motel is very convenient for what I like to do.  Just remember that you'll need some sort of reliable transportation to get you to and from the docks at Friday Harbor if you walk on the ferry and don't bring a car/bike/Vespa.  Plus, you need some sort of transportation to get out of Friday Harbor to Roche or to Lime Kiln anyway.

It's a long shot from glamorous, but I highly recommend it because of the service (always extremely pleasant), location, and price.  It's usually somewhere around $120 per night, which is a steal.

Plus, they have free wi-fi and plenty of parking.
