Let me tell you why this salon rocks, my new hair stylist (a keeper that she is) Mish Mucho works here! She fixed my haircut without cutting too much of the length off (as I had requested) and also fixed my harsh black colour hair into that sexy Kim Kardashian black that I've longed desired. I feel more confident going out and about rocking my FIXED hair cut all because of her. She's super nice and listens to what you want. While shes cutting she tells me exactly what she's doing and shows me how to maintain my hairstyle. What more can you ask for in a hairdresser? Go to Mish. You will not be let down. The funny story on how I met her was actually because I had fallen in love with this gorgeous girl on Myspace's hair and never knew who did it and my friend Sara told me that she went to Mish. After searching and searching I found her and trust me I can't stop raving about her. She's amazing. My hair feels so much healthier now. Thanks a MUCHO miss Mish!
I recently gave Mish a second visit to the salon so that she could put in extensions for me. Her price is dirt cheap compared to other stylist who do them for such a high cost and lasts less than a month. The ones I have in are bonded with high protein keratins and no one cqan tell that I have them in. I love the extra length and volume that she gave me using the extension technique. These will last for 3 months and sometimes more but it's really how you take care of them. I am really harsh with my hair and I haven't had any of these individual strands fall off. The best thing about these are that I can put my hair up without any problem and anyone noticing that they arent my hair. This woman is amazing!!!
Is it a bar or a salon? Don't know? It's both!
Very hip inside, and Neil is a cool dude.
Have only been here for a party/event, so I can't comment on the hair cut/colour talent here, but I have a good friend that I very much trust her opinions on such things, and she loves it here.
A bit swanky for my taste, but it's a pretty rad place to go if you're looking for a cool style and a fun time while you're at it!
This oober-hip salon has so many features it'll make every folicle on your head stand on end while drooling.
At first glance you may think you're walking into a clothing / hair salon, but I assure you, they are a full fledged rock popping Hair house.
The signature Disconneted "D" is featured all over the place, and even is used as a divider for a couple of the back rooms. My mom and I like to get our hair done together, so when we heard about the magazine selection (second to none) we thought this would be a good place. Well I was wrong it was the BEST place.
My hair was done by a girl named Mish Mucho, a new stylist to Disconnected whose rock n roll outfits only accetuante the style of this super upscale trendy salon.
They use Bumble and Bumble products and feature overhead pull down blowdryers..... Smart, right?
Oh and I can't forget to mention..... The bathrooms...... ALL BLACK AND RED, even a fake red TV that you wish you were watching while your color was setting. The bathrooms are, dare I say, SEXY!?
I would say, go... Go to this salon for great environment, AWESOME drink selections, good prices on B&B, but you'll prob have to pay to park. They don't validate for the parking structure they're attached to, but i was at the salon for 4+ hours and only paid 4.50
So, if you need your hair done and cool toilet while sipping on some fresh cucumber/lemon water... Tis the place the go my friend!
This place is....well just cool. Cut was good, hair wash ands massage was like heaven. Super nice, profesional and fun staff. I have even bought a couple of my favorite shirts in the little botique area. I look forward to getting my haircut.....I am a fan!
After i was set on cutting my hair my next decision was where to go. I read lots of review for many different salons and came across Disconnected Salon. When i first walked in, they offered my a drink and i set me up with Ashley... I wasn't sure how i wanted my hair. so i asked for her opinion and she HOOKED IT UP!!!!! I was even given a beer while getting my cut. It came out better then what i imagine. This will be the only salon i trust my hair to.
As I had written before ... I was introduced to this salon through a special event at the San Diego Museum of Art, Culture and Cocktails. The salon staff was stylin' up-do's for all of us wanting to be a bit more glamorous!
When at home, I looked up Disconnected on the web and was impressed with the web site and photos!
Now, it's August! I made the BIG move and risked every hair on my head to try a new hair stylist. Much needed since I cut my hair short this year, moved to a new 'hood', started a new 'biz', and was in dire need of a serious Mommy Makeover!!!
I'm paying more than my other salon. This is what I got in return: well designed trendy salon; friendly and prompt service; spa / nightclub atmosphere; upbeat modern music; art gallery with actual opening events; free bang cuts; comfy hair washing chairs; cucumber water (or even wine / beer / wheat grass); trendy hair cut and color; across the street from Urban Solace (if I ever wanna meet the dahlings for lunch after a 'do'); the latest mags; rooftop parking (cheap, cheap, cheap); and beautiful Ashley (trained very well by Paul Mitchell)!
I'm pleased with my risk-taking venture. I am excited to go back to see Ashley and hang out at Disconnected. I simply loved it! I believe you would, too!
ps. GUYS ... this is a kewl place for guys to get haircuts, too. I saw many stylin' fella's. Don't know if they came for the cuts, the kewl atmosphere, or the gorgeous staff! No matter what motivates you to try it out ... you will feel comfortable here, too!

Just have to update and say I thought Disconnected couldn't get any better. That was before Sarah R. cut and styled me. You know how you like your hair right after it's cut, but after the first time you wash it and do it yourself, you realize what a mistake you've made? That cannot happen when Sarah cuts your hair! She is seriously top-notch. My hair has such great texture and I don't have to do anything to make it look good, straight, curly, it don't matter. Disconnected forever. I am not kidding. Also, she should win a Nobel Prize for head massages.

I found Disconnected through Yelp so I owe them a sweet review. Three words: Best. hair. ever. Lisa… Read more »
Been going to Disconnected every month for over a year now. First time I walked in I was impressed with the cool interior. It made me think 'these people know what they are doing'. I was welcomed at the Desk by someone who knew my name and was happy I was there (Robert). They then offered for me to wait at 'the bar'. I thought, "oh I'm in for a long wait'. Nope, it was so I could relax with a mint water, a beer, coffee, anything that I wanted.
I had a cool looking stylist (JULIE!), her appearence made me think she knows what she's doing. Julie asked ''so, what do you want to do with your hair?" Now, I understand why they ask but I replied, "I have no idea, that's why I came to you. What would you recommend?" We talked, she pulled hair, moved it around, messed it up a bit and then Julie was inspired with the great plan.
Great shampoo complete with massage. Julie worked perfection with lots of different tools. This isn't hold the hair between your fingers and cut a straight line. Best hair cut I've had--ever.
But not over yet. Second shampoo, this time with extended face and temple massage and a hot, moist towel with tea tree oil covering my face for a few minutes.
Blow dry, then Julie took the time to explain how to use new products like SUMOTECH and Bumble and Bumble. How how I can make my hair look good everyday.
My only disappointment is the turn over of the stylists. However, at Disconnected every new stylist has been better than the last! I'm hoping that Julie will stay a long time she's really good.
It is pricy. I wish it was just a bit lower. But it's worth it. Also, they can usually get me in soon and when I need to get in. Love that.
I normally don't spend that much for a haircut, but I think it's different for women.
Julie is awesome, and the shampoo/scalp massage practically put me to sleep... sooooo relaxing. The art here is really cool, and you can actually buy the pieces off the wall.
They serve Coronitas and wine, and possibly other alcohol.
Very cool place!
Last week, I got about 8 inches chopped off my hair at Disconnected. My stylist was Mike, and he was pretty awesome. He took his time to talk with me about my new style and even had an assistant help out through the event.
I call it an event because it took 2 hours in total! First, Julie gave me an elaborate and AMAZING shampoo and scalp massage. Then, Mike really took his time with my cut, which I appreciated a lot considering the big change. Throughout the afternoon, we had a nice relaxing time chit-chatting as he cut my hair. He gave me a cute graduated bob, which I am really having fun with and enjoying! The only thing I don't like is this one unruly small piece in the front which I have the hardest time taming. The cut with Mike was great and really fun. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone searching for a new stylist. He even did a little before/after photo shoot for me with his camera. I haven't gotten the pictures yet, but how sweet was that?
I'd probably have given the review 5-stars for the cut alone. But I have to include the entire salon experience in the review. It was the pricing and the lack of knowledge on pricing from receptionists that was disappointing. The day before the cut, I was quoted $55. Then, the day of the cut, the receptionist said it would be $65, and explained that yesterday's price had been a misquote. Also, I didn't know that Disconnected gave discounts to Yelpers OR to teachers until I read some reviews on here today. I happen to be BOTH and my job and my Yelp Elite status both came up in my conversations as I sat in the chair for two hours. Sooo.... why didn't anyone tell me?? After spending almost $300 in the salon for the cut and a new flat iron, I was disappointed that they weren't forthcoming with this info.
I've been going to Disconnected since it opened, my stylist is the owner, Sarah R., and she is absolutely the best! I get compliments ALL the time on my hair and every single one of my best friends goes here now. We love it!
I was introduced to Neil by my ex-husband. They were friends from ages and ages ago. He told me Neil was good and now had his own salon. I was excited because i love new hair. i dig the change. So one day about a year and a half ago, my then husband took me there and i got THE BEST, BEST hair cut EVER.. The color was Perfect! The cut was... how can i put this so you'd understand? Simply put, it was ART! Then i went back and got yet another master piece. BRILLIANT!
He had told me Neil cut hair blah blah blah.. But, he never mentioned he is an artist. i would recommend this man to ANYONE.. EVERYONE! Now, i know he's a busy man and has other stylists there but, i cannot vouch for them. all i know is NEIL IS THE MAN! he's the one to go to. if you have to wait.. WAIT! If you think it might be pricey.. it's worth it! you won't be disappointed.
The salon is neat, hip and artfully down to earth. The people i've met there have been sweet and helpful. This place offers yummy beverages, visual and auditory stimulation and the best damn cut you'll ever get.
So, thanks to all the yelpers I have been satisfied with over 90% of the reviews I have followed, having said that, I went to this salon today to trim my hair and bangs. Mike actually did my hair and I cannot complain, he asked me what I wanted done, was nice but not overly excited which im definitely coo with. He was very chill and definitely did an awesome job, he took the time to show me a few different ways to style my rad do. Overall, it was worth the price and everyone was super chill, good vibe, but not overly done. If you want out of the ordinary layered haircut, or looking to revamp yo style this is definitely the place to go.
ps-I wil never go back to this place, after Mike stopped working there I went in for a trim and JULIE did my hair, she was nice but I think deaf since she did the complete opposite of what I asked for. When I got home I realized I really didnt like the way she did my hair, I paid $55 for some newbee to cut my hair, she didnt even hold her scissors right. I called Robert the manager and he said he would comp my next visit, yea, so,um, he couldnt remember who I was. A good manager would have made a note of it, I know I would have. They suck and they need to really keep their word.
The story begins with me and my frustrated hair long overdo for a style overhaul. I wanted to make a major change but didn't know who to go to because, I'll be honest, I wasn't great about keeping my previous style properly trimmed, thus I rarely visited salons and had no idea who could handle this change that meant a lot to me.
I found a Yelp review one by someone who made a similar hair-change at Disconnected and was very happy. So I made a yelp-faith-based appointment with Sarah Renee and went in the following week for my big change.
She did an amazing job. She really listened to what I wanted and was very active in helping me decide the best style for me. And she made it work, I get lots of compliments and one of my coworkers joked that I was trying to make him feel like a cou-gay.
I give Sarah and Disconnected a AAA for Customer Service, Results and Price. I've been back three times and will keep coming back.
This place is cool.
I came in here yesterday and was greeted by a cuuuuuuuuuuuuute golden retriever wanting to play tug-o-war with a towel.
Everyone was very accommodating and polite. On top of that, I never knew that they were so focused on art!
The interior is great, very bright and there's constantly something to look at. I was even lucky enough to watch an artist work on their back wall - doing some CRAZYYYYYYYYY awesome painting of a woman while I was having peek-a-boo highlights put in. Apparently, the art here changes every month as well for Ray @ Night... so make sure to check it out ^_^.
All in all, it was a nice experience and like Sarah S... omg... the shampoo....
.....ahhhhh.
Shampoo me. Shampoo me all day. All. Day. Long. Leave me asleep in the chair and then wake me with a cup of your delicious coffee.
Because you do it so well...

I went there on an afternoon after I found I had to leave for NYC the next morning. They were able to fit me in on short notice and I got a great haircut. The girl that cut my hair was very friendly and also included free neck trims!
I'm the type of person that only lets certain people cut my hair. I've been going to the same hair stylist (my aunt) since I was like 9. Now, living in San Diego, my Hair was extremely long and lanky and needed a new cut, and a bit of a change.
Long story short, my cut came out fabulous! Probably one of the best I've had. It was funky, still long, and the stylist even took the time out to show me (someone who can hardly blow dry her hair) how to style it the way that she did.
-1 because the cut took WAYYYY too long and when I got my eyebrows waxed, the stylist burned me. I didn't notice it until later in the day. But my eyebrows (which are unruly normally) came out awesome, aside from the burn.
I would go back again.
First off, I'm a 28 year guy with thinning hair and I'm not into shaving my head to calm the balding effect. Just not my thing... anymore. I don't mind spending $50 on a haircut when it's good. Ask someone at supercuts to texture your hair and see what you get.
I called Disconnected around 330 on a Sunday afternoon, hoping there was an available stylist. Mel, the front desk, super rad girl, told me to come in and they could hook it up.
Immediately, I was greeted by Mel and Sarah Renne, offered some water and Sarah asked what I wanted her to do and she got to work. Turns out we have mutual friends, so the conversation was non-stop. She was very personable without being invasive, which they can't teach at beauty school.
To all the guys out there who always wear hats, bc they're not comfortable with their thinning dome, get an appointment with Sarah Renne. I'm going out tonight and I'm not wearing a hat. I'm still gonna wake up tomorrow with a few fallen soldiers on my pillow, but Sarah hooked it up to the point where I don't feel like I need to wear a hat. That's a first for me.
I reluctantly came with my wife today... The place blew my mind!!! Beautiful people and Corona on the house, are you kidding me? I will be back to get my own haircut. My wife drives from La Jolla every-time to get her haircut and now I get why.
As kindly as it can possibly be put, Disconnected needs to lose their license. "Disconnnected" is an appropriate name.
I chose Disconnected because of their Editorial rating on Citysearch. The Citysearch editor responsible for Disconnected's rating should also be fired. After a little due dilligence, I have learned that Disconnected is both Citysearch and Yelp sponsor (artificially inflating their ratings).
Disconnected was nearly empty when I arrived. Note to Yelpers: lack of clients is a telling sign. During my consultation, I explained that I wanted a temporary gloss to freshen up my hair color. The Disconnected colorist and I picked out shades together. I let her know that the gloss typically used on my hair was "dark blonde"; that my ends were slightly damaged and less absorbant; and that dark hair color aged me. I just wanted shine and an ever-so-slightly ash-ier tone.
I watched as she consulted with every other stylist/colorist in the salon, then mixed color ingredients at the Center of Salon Bar (curiously and unsanitarily combined with a coffee and drink bar).
For clarification, I cautiously asked: "you are using temporary or semi-permanent color, right?" "Permanent," she replied. This concerned me as I had stressed my desire for temporary gloss several times. "I prefer temporary color, especially this is our first color experience," I reiterated. The colorist seemed exasperated with my request.
We sojourned to the sink, then back to her chair, and she pulled the towel off my head. I reeled in horror. The color was very dark brown (nearly black) with auburn red where my highlights had once been.
What followed: hands down the worst Salon customer service experience I have ever had. The colorist was confrontational. Other stylists/colorists in the salon actually jumped in, accusing me of being an "ignorant customer." The colorist (and her peers) went so far as to declare that I was not a cosmotologist and therefore could not possibly understand color or cutting. With the lack of salon customer traffic, I can justifiably conclude that the 20-something Salon team has significantly less experience with color/cutting than I do as a customer who has gotten my hair blownout twice a week at award-winning salons like Michael and Michael, Fekkai, Ken Paves, and Licari, with regular maintanance color every 3 weeks for nearly 40 years.
The colorist was clearly uneducated. She had no idea how to handle corrective color, consulted with "her brilliant peers" then called "a friend at another salon" on the phone to ask for advice (gasp!). In the end, she would not (or as SHE suggested, "COULD NOT") correct the color. She did reluctantly agree to re-wash my hair -- and did so several times -- but sadly shampoo does not remove color. She claimed that they didn't even carry color corrector products in the salon. I requested to speak to a manager, but there was no manager on duty. I requested to speak to an owner, but was refused. As a final bad customer service blow, the colorist refused to dry my hair or to allow me to dry my hair in the salon.
Twenty-four hours later, my hair oxidized to an unnatural, unflattering shade -- akin to Koolaid dyed hair on a Japanese teen. A bad image for an Agency CEO.
The lesson here? Do not trust Citysearch reviews. Search for reviews on Yelp, A Small World or http://Beautifulpeople... -- and even then, be jaded.
Alas, I have not yet found a good colorist in San Diego. Much like San Diego shoe shopping, it's a little like searching for the Fountain of Youth or Atlantis. I am slowly beginning to understand why Allure Magazine does not include any San Diego salons on their best salon and services list.
Welcome suggestions.
Products: Bumble and Bumble (Disconnected recently lost their Davines distributor license), Color: Paul Mitchell
I went to disconnected salon and was VERY disappointed. Neil cut and colored my hair. I asked and paid for a full weave, yet he only did a partial weave. I even asked about it, but he was too busy talking to the other stylists to finish the weave. The haircut looked okay but when it got wet it was uneven and terrible. I went back to my salon in Beverly Hills and my hairstylist was horrified at how my hair was butchered.
Even if it had been okay, this place is wayyyy too overpriced. I have read that when disconnected gets a bad review on yelp, they harass whoever left the review. If they were so wonderful, they wouldn't have to do that.
I will say that I had been there once before and had a different stylist who did a good job. Still way overpriced, but it was okay.
Love Disconnected. Love Sarah Salt!
I went here for the first time this week. My last stylist kept charging me more and more and talked my ear off about the stupidest stuff! I was really nervous about finding a new stylist because I'm somewhat picky about my hair but also don't want to pay $200 for a cut and partial highlight. My fiance went to Neil and loved his cut/color. I also read all the reviews on here so I made an appointment with whoever could see me. I was so lucky to get Sarah S! She was really mellow, sweet and really listened to what I wanted. She did exactly what I asked for but added her expertise and great sense of style.
Other things I love about Disconnected: fair pricing, Sampson the cutest golden retriever ever, Bumble and Bumble, amazing head massages, stylish yet relaxed atmosphere, convenient parking
Got my hair done here for a fashion show and it looked amazing! Staff is super friendly, cool and understanding. I think this is one of the most trendy looking salons in SD. I love the layout and the atmosphere.
I'm writing an update to my previous review of Disconnected. Like I said before, I really enjoyed my experience at the salon, and today was no different. Everyone was really welcoming and attentive to their clients.
The owner of the salon, Sarah R, invited me to come back and get my hair done on the house because she saw that I was not 100% satisfied with my last color work. I have never had any business owner extend that kind of offer and I was really impressed and grateful.
To my last stylist credit at Disconnected, I am EXTREMELY picky about my hair. I will also say - which I should have mentioned in my previous review- that Misty B gave me a great hair cut, it was exactly what I wanted, I asked her to take as little off as possible to make it look healthier and she didn't chop it all off like a lot of stylist do.
Sarah R greeted my promptly and we discussed what I was looking for in my consultation and really took the time to listen to what I had in mind for my hair. She really understood what I wanted and gave me a really good highlight/lowlight. The things that I like most about my color is that she didn't do the typical foils where they are lined up strip by strip on the top of your head, creating the inevitable striped look. She was precise, but not mechanical in her foil placements and I really like the shade my hair came out- not too ashy, not to golden - just how I like it.
Another perk is they give you a ten minute scalp and neck massage during your shampoo, it was really relaxing and exactly what I needed after partying the night before. Also, if you are a client of theirs, you can pop in anytime for a bang trim, free of charge- I thought that was really cool, considering I usually end up trimming my own bangs with kitchen scissors in between hair appts :)
Overall, I was still very impressed with the salon experience. Sarah and the rest of the staff did a great job of welcoming me and pampering me. I love the color and the bang trim, I love the metro mint water they serve and I love Samson- the golden retriever that hangs out in the salon - I will definitely be back.
Thanks again Sarah!

OK, I wanted to really like this place. I ve been reading about this place for a while... and I finally went in.. I went in wanting a hair color change.. nothing to drastic but I expected a little bit of a change.. I didn't quite get it.
The set up of the salon was unique.. different.. but as far as my own personal experience, it was so so on the rictor scale.
The people were nice. not as warm as im use to for a salon but nonetheless nice, I was offered a drink by the receptionist, and i never did get it. Then someone else asked me and i dare not say yes again, i didn't want another strike.. like i said i wanted to really like this place..but as much i wanted to, i just like its name, i felt totally disconnected.
So when it came down for my color.. i exasperatedly said i wanted a change.. but i didnt want to too light. My stylist who i positively think if I was in for cut would've given me a pretty good cut, but color dont think was this particular stylist forte. Anyways, after a short consultation. The hair swatches were brought out, i picked.. I kinda wanted a little more input from the stylist, some creative advice.. but I guess i had to really know what i want.. but all i had was some haphazard idea of what i wanted..
I came out maybe with a little bit different color but nothing where anyone notice.. the receptionist commented on the shininess of my hair.. I went home trying to convince myself i had spent my money wisely.. but not one person has commented on my hair color.. it looks the damn same, and really what boils me is the amount of money i shelled out and it looks the damn same.. being a damn cosmo student, i should've done it my own self.. but silly me, i like going to salons and taking in the experience, and this experience i want to kind of shove away. Now that ive stared at myself in the mirror i feel like i paid for a really expensive ass conditioning treatment.. when i wanted a color change. In reality, i dont mind spending the money, if I get the end result i want.. or at least something a tad different. it wouldve been nice if someone noticed nothing really changed..
Now, i've just gotten myself riled up.
so blah.. i guess with all their great reviews, there magic didnt happen over here.. sorry, going back to the damn drawing board.

What can I say I walked in looking like I have been beaten with the ugly stick. When I walked out I looked like I was trendy and in style. Too bad my clothes dont match the hair. I will be back in 6 weeks for my next cut.
Neil very sincerely coerced me back to Disconnected after reading my previous review. He wanted to apologize and disprove my first opinion of him and his behavior.
I went back on my promise to never go back, and I gave him a second chance. And he completely and totally redeemed himself. Disconnected is back on my happy list.
I got the gold-star treatment, complete with Disconnected's newest intern Keenan massaging my hands while Neil carefully parted my hair. We shared some jokes about him chopping all my hair off to get back at me, and then he proceeded to give me a gorgeous cut. Not to mention we had a lovely chat while I was in his capable hands and smoothed out any snarky wrinkles that may have been lingering between us.
I like a man who takes responsibility for his mistakes. And his new ink looks really nice. Oh, and my hair looks fuckin' smokin'! Franco always tells me how sexy I look, but his jaw dropped a little bit when I walked through the door after my visit with Neil.
You won me back, dude. I'll see you in a few months.

I visited Disconnected yesterday for the very first time. I really liked the whole feel of the salon. Very hip and artsy, and everyone was really nice. My main reason for going to this salon was to see Audrey. I used to to go to her when she was at Robert Cromeans in PB. I drive all the way from L.A. to have her do my hair because she is just that good. She always gives me exactly what I want. She does amazing color and cuts. I am never worried about how my hair will turn out because she never disappoints and that is a great feeling to have. I make the trip because I don't trust anyone else to touch my hair, but if you're lucky enough to live in San Diego definitely go see Audrey at Disconnected.
Disconnected is highly customer oriented. I would suspect that their level of service comes from being interested in the actual art of what they do, and not just making dough. Although, dough is always nice.
It's a super fresh perspective to San Diego, in my opinion. I like the fact that the salon itself is very creative, but still very clean and professional. Some salons go crazy and I think lose the kind of orderliness/cleanliness that a salon should possess.
Plus the staff is very personable which makes the salon very inviting. It's all about service, results, skills and presentation. They hit the mark bulls-eye styles.
OH YA- Jams. They def got the jams.
619 hollaaaa
Disconnected is the only place I go to get my hair DID in San Diego. I do have to admit that I've been friends with the owner, Neil, for many moons...but he's one of a handful of folks I trust with these flowing golden locks.
The salon itself is situated in my favorite part of town. Those four blocks surrounding University in North Park have been blowing up...and they're smack-dab in the middle of all the action.
I never really care what they do to my hair. I just say, "Neil, do something cool...." To date, I've never been disappointed.
Aside from their skills, they have the most beautiful working staff in town. I don't know how it happens, but every employee is seriously HOT. Like, MTV's "The Grind" hot. Er, maybe not....Lot's to look at while getting a shampoo/cut. Plus, the industrial design by the Bells & Whistles team blows other spots out of the water. They usually have some pretty cool music playing as well.
Hipster-haters beware. There are a lot of 'em over here...but who cares? Life is too short to waste your time neggin' out on a particular cross-section of individuals. In the immortal words of OK GO, "get, get, get over it."
I have been to Disconnected two times now. Both times I visited I really enjoyed my experience.
The haircut I get was awesome. My stylist, Neil, listened to what I wanted and gave me a haircut that I could throw some style into for the weekend and still look conservative enough for the office.
The service is great. The people here do a great job of making you feel good. Both times I've walked out of the door, I felt pretty damn cool and that is the name of the game for a salon. Disconnected makes you look and feel good.
Five stars - I like it, I'd go back, and I'd recommend it to my friends.
I've been to this salon twice, once for myself and once with my boyfriend. Julie helped me both times and did an awesome job! She had fresh ideas for new styles and knew a lot about her products and she gives the most amazing scalp massages! I loved my cut and color job and my boyfriend was stoked too! I would definitely recommend Disconnected for the mellow vibe and super nice emoloyees :) like Julie! Thank you for the great experience!
This rating is for Kelly who cut and colored my hair. [4 stars for the salon]
First of all, I pulled the ultimate douchebaggary of being 40 minutes late to my appointment. I apologized the whole way there on the phone, but still not excusable. She was still so sweet, down-to-earth and relaxed. Even for that I would have given her a good review, but the cut and color she gave me were AWESOME. I have never had such shiny dark-red hair in my life. Seriously shiny. Reflective shiny.
The cut is simple, fresh and un-fussed. Exactly what I asked for. I walked out of there feeling a million times better. It might be a touch expensive, but if you think of it as a therapy session, it's totally worth it.
I cant figure out why people love this salon so much. I had my hair done here on Friday, and it was really easy to get an appointment. True it was my first time and I wasnt picky on who I was seeing
It was not busy when I came on a Friday afternoon. So the place has a nice set up. A lot of stylist chairs and a lot of color station chairs. In the middle is the drink bar and where they mix there color too. Chemicals a little close to drinks if you ask me.
I had a full highlight, toner and a trim. My stylist was alright. Nice convo and she did an ok job. The highlights were fine. But I couldn't believe how much she charged for basically 2 snips of my hair. Seriously, its not even a full on trim. She supposedly rounded the edged of my hair in the front, but I cant tell. Seriously, its no different.
Don't get me wrong, I do not mind paying high price for getting nice work on my hair. In the past, I've paid $500 every 6-8 weeks. But this was ok at best. Not worth it in my opinion. And the chairs you sit in are a bit ridiculous. The arm rests are way too high and the chair is so wide, so you just feel very uncomfortable sitting there.
Yes, they were nice and hospitable. But the work doesn't justify the price.
WARNING:
if you dont leave a glowing review, you will get an email from someone who works there calling you names.
Disconnected is such an awesome place!! It's a complete experience that left me feeling happy with the world!
I was thrilled to be able to get a same day appointment on a Saturday, but I forsee so much success here that it will soon be more difficult to get in.
I walked in and was welcomed by the friendly receptionist. Then another friendly employee offered me a beverage at the bar. Then my friendly stylist, Ashley, introduced herself to me.
Ashley listened to me and did my hair exactly how I asked. I love it! My hair is very short, but she didn't use obnoxious clippers like most stylists do (don't they know that clippers hurt against scalp??). Even though she didn't use them, the side fade is very even, and it didn't take a long time. She was careful and precise, but also efficient so I wasn't sitting there all day feeling like a sculptor's marble block. She was so fun and easy to talk to. Plus she gave me a cool tea tree oil warm face towel treatment at the end that was very nice.
I just can't get over how friendly the place was. At most other trendy salons, everyone thinks they're too cool for school, but NOT here. I suspect the owners are very selective in hiring only the most upbeat and down-to-earth people which was very smart. For example, while Ashley cut my hair, another stylist came by to say hello and chat.
I went to the same place in Hillcrest for over a year, and the other stylists would never so much as acknowledge my presence let alone chat with me.
The design of the place is really cool and industrial. They play techno music.
She told me that they are applying for a liquor license and are open during the week until 9 so I can't wait to come and get a happy hour haircut!
When I made the appointment, I was a little apprehensive about the price ($45 for men), but I hoped that the experience would make up for it. Well, it completely did. Even if you can't afford to go there exclusively, I'd recommend it as a great place to splurge once in a while when you are feeling down or stressed. I know I am going to watch my pennies (oops, I accidentally just typed pennis) so that I can come here every month!
I find it silly that a lot of their own associates write their own reviews.
How lame. I don't think any business should.
Yelp is a great concept, but let the consumers speak up (which I can see they have) and stop leaving yourself 5 stars.
Thanks!
P.S. I only gave a star cause i had to in order to post this.
**Revised** An interesting fellow yelper challenged me on the one star. I won't bring the bar down just because i think they're being silly. I'll be fair. So three stars, because i have also been a customer there, didn't think it was all that and even my half-balding friend went. To use some clippers to trim out the sides and charge around $65 is lame though.
**Hopeful final revision*** Sorry I didn't get the correct name for whatever is used to trim out the edges.......I used the word CLIPPER............and I didn't get the exact price right.....
Now...OFF my back just because I'm not your #1 fan. THANKS!!! I am allowed to have my own opinion so please, stop w/the hate mail.
When my favorite hairdresser in Southern California told me that she was going on maternity leave, I am ashamed to admit that my first thought was "What will become of my hair?! How will I survive the summer without you?!" Then I remembered that the world does not revolve around me and that I would have to find some way to cope.
Enter Disconnected.
I'd heard so much about Disconnected on Yelp that I just had to check it out. I was skeptical. I wanted to discover some fatal flaw that all the other reviewers missed. I made no such discovery. Instead I think I figured out what makes Disconnected such a hot spot.
Disconnected is a friendly hipster salon. Sounds like an oxymoron doesn't it. Let me try to explain. Disconnected has the cool look, the cool feel, the cool music, the cool hairdressers, BUT they make the client feel like they are cool for getting their hair done there. Unlike so many other hipster joints that treat customers like peons, Disconnected embraces their customers. What a novel concept! Simple, yet brilliant.
This place is all about customer service. Rather than waiting in a chair with a stack of magazines, customers are invited to sit at the bar. I asked for water and got this orange mint bottled water. I must admit that it tasted like gargling after using that Aquafresh orange mint toothpaste. Not exactly what I wanted to be drinking, but I appreciated the effort to introduce me to something different. Neil took me to his station to get the run down on what I wanted him to do. The chairs were a bit uncomfortable with their super high arm rests. But then he took me for the shampoo and massaged away any further desire to critique.
He won me over with... 1) the freaking head massage - what was that?! crazy good, like hypnosis. 2) how much he loves the North Park community and wants to see it thrive. 3) the fact that he recognized that the woman with me was my girlfriend, not my "friend." 4) the awesome mixed cd he gave us. 5) a great cut. How could I not give Disconnected 5 stars?
I don't plan on leaving my hairdresser for Disconnected. What can I say, I am faithful. I am still all about Tina at DK. But I sure am happy to have found a great way to cope in her absence. Thanks Disconnected!
I came to Disconnected with good expectations based on a recommendation and the reviews I read on yelp. The neighborhood seemed odd for a "stylish" establishment like this, and the place was pretty much empty when I arrived. My stylist was Lindsay who seemed distracted and uninterested in my cut. She kept throwing my hair in my face and practically ripped it out while brushing it. I've never had the kind of "tangle issues" that she had with it... I will give her the benefit of the doubt because everyone has bad days, but regardless I think professionalism is important.
I was not quite sure what I wanted done to my hair, but I did say that I wanted to be able to let the style air dry and be manageable. This cut needs blow drying to be halfway decent and she was constantly second guessing me and acting like my suggestions were strange. She also seemed bothered by my occasional conversation (I thought hair stylists were chatty?!?) and was generally moody. She pushed some product on me, and handed me some cards and did the dutiful "come again" speech but the vibes she gave off sang a different tune.
The receptionist was very nice and Kelly (blond girl - I recognized her from the pictures on their website) was friendly while I was there. I would like to return for a cut from another stylist, but somehow I feel like calling and saying "can I get a cut from anyone but Lindsay on a day Lindsay is not working" just seems like too much effort.
Two stars for the head/neck rub thing she did....
