it's obvious that one can find comfort in that which is familiar. it's not the be all end all of what life has to offer, but its multiple nodes of security-blanketity are much needed anchors in a constantly shifting, ongoing wave of food establishment uncertainty.
at dino's, i can count on certain things:
- free extra garlic and pizza sauce (i'm a huge garlic fan)
- HUMONGOUS, tasty calzones
- tanned legs while seated outdoors on a sunny day
- humorously flirtatious employees
- fillmore street people watching
- the occasional free beer
in my experience w/cheap-ish pizza delivery, i used to favor another pizza joint. i switched over to dino's for a while, and then one day, ordered a pizza from the other place. ...its crust tasted like cardboard in comparison to dino's.
revisiting the other place didn't breed regret though. there was a good lesson to be learned. sometimes, invariability is good. sometimes, the comprehension of its slight, but impressive nature is so elusive that the result of your momentary curiosity for greener pastures results in a slapping of the forehead. doh.
sure, dino's, by no means, embodies gourmet pizza. no gorgonzola, pears, walnuts, etc. here. it is, however, an example of an apt churchkey of all that's fast, decently tasty, and pizza-related.
I don't think my pizza was cooked. A little raw for my tastes. And considering the wait was a bit long for the food, um, yeah...
Also, every waiter/server/cook had their head up, eyes fixed on the game playing on TV. Dude, I know the game is important and everything, but... I put too much chili flakes on my dough and now my mouth is burning. Guys? Guys?!
Been going here with my wife when we started dating and always loved the food and the outside seating. Pizza is OUTSTANDING and IMO the best PIZZA in the Bay Area. Ingredients are top notch and not greasy at all.... we love it so much that we try to go to it every time we're in the city.
Last time we went with the family (Wife, 2 kids, and Chester (Dog) we had a large combo and sat on the street... 1st time for the kids and they loved it.
While walking through the doors of Dino's Pizza Parlor you can smell the aroma of fresh garlic and seasoned tomato sauce in the area. A true sign of a pizza shop doing what it takes to make a signature pizza...plenty of TV's and good on beer. A great place to catch a game.
Check it out!! You can eat and drink outside and enjoy the day.
Dino's is a great place for a casual meal with friends. Service is incredibly fast and friendly. Dino himself is there most nights and he always make sure everything is to your satisfaction. Sure it is not an upscale $20 a slice zucchini flower and capers pizza "eatery" but it's not trying to be. Just a great friendly neighborhood place that you don't need a reservation or a pair of True Religion jeans to get into. Dino's rocks.
Oh how strange that I'm updating my Dino's review almost exactly a year after. So much has changed in a year and Dino's is proof.
My fiance and I ordered a pizza from them last night for delivery and it was the most disgusting and disappointing thing I have put in my mouth in a long long time. We got a large The Mountain and asked for half of it to have the veggies (with no olives or onions) and the other half to have just meat. I even called back right after my fiance hung up the phone, just to be sure the guy on the other end understood what we were saying. However, what we got was the whole pizza with meat, green peppers and mushroom and half with olives and onions. That was the first disappointment. After improving our pizza, we took a bite and it was just icky. Cardboard crust, toppings sad and the overall experieince was so memorable that we will never order from them again. I only ate 2 slices and couldn't get myself to eat anymore. It was too gross. What makes matters worse...they use MSG now.
I'm sorry Dino, but after one last delivery, you have now lost 2 customers. No one who answers the phone ever understands what is being said on the other end which can be frustrating and now the food doesn't deliver in quality.

It's nice to have a pizza joint a few blocks from home that isn't X-TREME, Dominos, Pizza Hut, or… Read more »
I work in the area and am thrilled to have a classic, easy pizza place with incredibly attentive servers.
I love, love, love just their simple dinner salad-- it's only like $4 but it's huge and they can throw it together so quickly. I often am full after just that.
Recently, I brought a friend here and was interested to see if he liked the place, as it's not the fanciest of joints, but has a certain comfort to it. Both me and my friend, now, are big fans. The waiters are all gentlemen and give just the right amount of attention to all guests.
I will return over and over again, and I urge anyone to go here for a relaxed, casual lunch or dinner date.
Everything I've tried at Dino's is delicious! And it does not cost a fortune to eat there. My favorites are the Hawaiian pizza (minus the green peppers) and the chicken parmesan sandwhich. Yum!
I hate writing a bad review about a local business, but this place just didnt have it. The dough was dry and hard and I've either had way too much sauce or no sauce at all, never been consistent with that.
The quality of product isnt that cool either. The pepperoni's they use dont have as much flavor as you would expect from a place that is on a pretty hot corner and should be putting out a great product.
Good pizza and beer at a good price. But actually, where Dino's is extra good is on the dishes that aren't pizza. You can get some really good ravioli or chicken parm at a great price here. The service is always friendly and it's a pleasant atmosphere as well. Can't complain for living down the street. It says something that this place is always crowded with Pizzeria Delfina right next door.
Dino's will be your favorite neighborhood pizza joint.
It can be a regular Sex and The City type hangout for you and your friends, except slightly more low key.
My friends and I love Dino's because of...Dino. The man himself.
The food is delicious too, including the salads but especially the pizza.
Here's to hoping Dino gives me a kiss on the cheek the next time I visit.
Used to eat here a couple times a week during high school. Quite a friendly staff and reasonably priced slices. I try to get a slice or two whenever I'm in the area.
As a former NY'er I believe their slices are way better than their pies. But still not as good slices as Village or Arinells, but hit the spot when you are craving a cheap slice. What I LOVE here is the eggplant parm sub. (sometimes I can convince them to make me a 50/50 chicken/eggplant sub, which they really should offer as an option as it is sooooo good.) Subs are perfectly toasty eggplant, nice gooey cheese on crusty roll -- perfect hangover fare.
What always keeps me coming back is Dino and the guys who work there, they are always super nice (and usually a little flirty-but that's okay too). I used to live across the street and when we all had to evacuate late at night b/c of a fire in the building next door, Dino let me and my cat (in a discreet carrier on the floor) sit at the counter for a beer until the emergency quieted down. He was a great neighbor and his anniversary parties where he serves free pizza and beer (sometime in Sept or October) to everyone. it spills out onto the street and is a great old time.
Place is always welcoming and the food is good, fast and hot. Free WIFI and a very nice atmosphere that is not too loud, has a good selection of beers and very good, flavorfull pizza.
When I used to work nearby I used to come here all the time on my lunch break. If I was able to make it before 5 pm I always get the slice of pizza because they're huge and delicious. I'm a very picky pizza person and rarely like pizza to begin with so that's a big compliment! Sometimes if I come just after 5 pm they've given me free slices of pizza that they have leftover! Can't hate on free dinners!
Also their sandwiches are totally bomb. I'm super super OCD about my sandwiches - I don't want certain things on it, I substitute salad dressing for mayo, I don't want the cheese toasted with the bread and I like extra onions - and every single time they're super patient taking my ridiculous order.
Sometimes I wish their pizza delivery was quicker but besides Nizario's - this is the only pizza place for me in the city!
pretty crowded when families are eating up peak dinner hours.
crisp pizza crust - our sausage and eggplant was good, but we asked for a bowl of extra sauce to compliment = perfect.
also must try their $3.00 garlic cheese bread, excellent starter.
My boyfriend lives on Fillmore and there's so many fun restaurant options it's hard to choose where to go! Dino's was packed for lunch, and if a place is packed I figure it must be pretty tasty so we decided to give it a try.
I ordered a small calzone which was actually HUGE and could definitely feed two people easy. I got the veggie with no cheese and it was okay. Nothing too spectacular and pretty flavorless. With so many vegetables I figured it would be popping with flavor, but I guess the cheese usually masks the blah pizza sauce. But I mean, it was pizza, so even though it was bad...it was still pretty good.
HOWEVER. I live for next-day pizza. In my opinion, it doesn't get much better than a cold piece of pizza for lunch the next day after going out. YUM. This calzone didn't even make it the 1 1/2 hour ride home, though! The dough was totally wet and soggy and completely inedible. Yick. Definitely not worth 11 bucks if you can't even eat it the next day!
I'd go back to Dino's to share something, because leftovers are clearly a no-go.
After hitting up MAC, Nest, Crossroads & several other second hand stores on Fillmore, my cousin & I just wanted a good, cheap, fast place to get some grub. We wandered into Dino's (love it's corner location) & were told to pick a seat, any seat, so we sat near the window & people watched while we waited for our large half vegetarian, half hawaiian pie to arrive at our table.
Service deserves 5 stars because they were quick and friendly but did not hover. Location is awesome & decor is your typical pizzeria with lots of white tile & tons of pictures on the wall-its a very homey feeling. Also, prices are good; we paid about $23 for a large that was large enough to have leftovers. But the pizza itself gets the 3 stars because although it was a decent pizza, it did not sweep me off my feet. The crust was average, the vegetarian side was not as garlicky as I'm used to & the sauce was more sweet than tangy (more tangy please.)
I don't think I will be returning to Dino's because they don't sell pizza by the slice (I want the option to be able to grab a slice & go instead of eating in sometimes.) Plus there are a million and one other bomb ass pizza places in SF (blondies, little joe's, extreme pizza & pizza orgasmica to name a few.)
As opposed to some of the other pizza places around this neighborhood, this one was able to seat us within 5 minutes of arriving. Especially when you are starving, this is a perfect place to come.
A medium size pizza is a perfect size to feed two people eating. The staff is extremely attentive and loves to come chat with you! A pitcher of beer was about $15 and since we ordered a pitcher and a pizza (or because we were nice girls??), they gave my friend and I each a salad, half a pitcher of beer, and a slice of carrot cake for free :)
Overall the pizza, salad, beer, dessert, and service quality is all excellent (and that's not just the beer buzz talking)!
Four stars for the intangibles (service, ambiance, location), two stars for the food.
I love Fillmore Street: its cozy coffee shops, trendy boutiques, and attractive locals. However, it's the cuisine that really makes the street so wonderful. That said, Dino's suffers from being surrounded by some true culinary heavy-hitters. Yes, the pizza is pretty good, but when you've got Dosa, Fresca, and several other superior restaurants just blocks away, it's hard to stand out.
The pizza itself is perfectly fine. Nice, crisp crust, a generous amount of toppings, quality ingredients, you name it. My roommate and I shared "The Mountain" (a.k.a. the joint's combo pizza offering), which was topped with mozzarella, salami, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, peppers, onions, olives and tasty pieces of garlic. Overall it was a good, satisfying pizza, but not one that I'd return for. And don't get me started on the Diet RC Cola--hardly a worthy replacement for the Diet Coke I wanted.
Aside from the average taste, everything else was good. The ambience was lively and had a great local/corner-joint feel to it; servers were friendly and attentive; and the restaurant was pretty generous with the portions.
All in all a so-so dining experience, although I doubt I'll be back for round two.
Can't believe I haven't reviewed Dinos!
Yes this is a "heavy hitter" neighborhood in terms of high end restaurants, but when you want just a tad casual, fulfilling Italian food, this corner joint is the place to go.
Pizza is good, but I highly recommend the entrees- pesto lasagna and eggplant parimgiana are both fantastic.
I especially like that they have soccer playing at all times- very rare this country of bats, footballs, and hoops.
I have walked past here many times and been enticed by the smell of fresh pizza, but I finally walked in this last time. The atmosphere was as a good pizza place should be - dark woods, framed pictures, small vases on the tables and cozy seating.
I split the greek salad and greek pizza and both were excellent. The lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers were extremely fresh and both pizza and salad were topped heavily with a tasty feta. The pizza is on the thinner side but it was packed with so much flavor that you wouldn't need extra sauce or ranch to doctor it up. Even better heated up the next day!
The waitstaff was friendly and helpful and I love how they bring the pizza on those little pedestals so you don't have to try to move too many things to make room. Another plus? There are plenty of different bus lines that go past here so you don't have to drive or try to find parking...
I never really plan on going to Dino's, but usually end up here when I am starving while shopping so it always tastes pretty good.
Little corner pizza place with a home-town feel. Little two-seat tables, some pushed together for larger groups, the people who were there were obviously having a good time and enjoying themselves. I won't necessarily go out of my way to go here, but definitely a place to hit if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a decent, quick, tasty pie. There was a sign that said no slices after 5pm, which I suspect keeps the late night riff raff out, but that's fine by me.
Take the up-sell on the garlic, it's worth it.
This place is good. Its fast (or fresh pizza ~ 20 min) and its tasty. The crusts are thin NY style, which is delightful as it doesn't compete with the toppings.
No complaints here, only that for the foodies who are out there they might complain that the crust doesn't jump up and slap you in the face with compliments of flavor. Its crust, its basic. don't make it too complicated.
the food is fresh and it's pretty darn quick. The atmosphere feels just like it should, a "pizza joint" replete with pictures of family members of the workers, multiple TV's and a hot pizza oven clearly in sight.
The pizza is pizza...no biggie but great low key environment and Dino was very nice and helpful with our big party. I would go again if I was in the mood of a decent sit down pizza experience.
I love Dino's!
The place has a great down-home feel.
The salads are actually great, as are the pizzas,
and the servers are on task. Wonderful people!
Reminds me of Philly...
I want to eat there right now..
Check this place out today.
This is my favorite neighborhood pizzeria in the city (with Goat Hill a close second). The pizza is tasty and I usually ask for extra sauce. I've also had the chicken parm sandwich, which is also really tasty. You can stop by for lunch and walk out with a couple slices in a matter of minutes. Dino himself is friendly and always joking around with his customers. The employees are friendly, seem very happy and some of them have been there for years.
I love this place! I used to live right around the corner (and I worked from home too) this was my go-to spot for dinner and lunch.
Nothing better than rounding up the squad for The Mountain (pretty much the classic "everything pizza" sausage, peperoni, olives, onions, etc.) and a pitcher of beer...
Delicious pizza, kinda medium thickness (definitely not thin and crispy, definitely not deep dish, but one of the top 3 pizzas in the City if you ask me
(what? you askin?...well #1: Little Star, #2 Georgios on Clement, #3 Dino's)
Great place for slices and soda (or a pint) at lunch time too, because you are set for about 5 bucks.
Pretty good house salad too (with cucumbers and mozzarella) but get the dressing on the side if you are sensitive about that sort of thing, because they tend to overdress them pretty reliably. Good price on pitchers too (especially for this neighborhood).
I was always the odd man out (because I don't eat the critters) but Dino's even satisfied my vegetarian needs by having awesome veggie ingredients.
If I hadn't come here so often, I never would have tried the eggplant, but since the crew always went straight for the Mountain, I was left to fend for myself time and time again. Also, for some reason, they always have the hottest jalapenos (and I'm talking, like, Serrano chile kinda hot). The pizza I always got was: jalapenos, olives, extra sauce, and...[drum roll] the fried eggplant! Yes, the fried eggplant, jalapeno and olive pizza with extra sauce...mmmm, extra sauce.....
Some girlfriends and I went here a couple Saturdays ago - POSSIBLY the Saturday night that I also bought a 12-pack of toilet paper and a bottle of wine at Safeway, but that's what you get for being in-love and domesticated, I guess. I mean... hypothetically. If that were me.
I have a friend that loves "cute and trendy" restaurants (her words). However, Saturday night in the Fillmore area? You're not getting into anywhere "cute and trendy" (and also, "pricey" - my word) without a reservation or a two-hour wait. As we paced up and down Fillmore street, my friend's roommate kept saying, "We should just go to Dino's."
And we did.
I'd never heard of Dino's before, so I had absolutely no expectations beyond "I AM STARVING PLEASE FEED ME NOW." We waited less than ten minutes, despite the place being absolutely packed, were seated at the counter, and were promptly treated to the best, hands-down, ever, service I've had in my life. This may have something to do with the three of us being women, and the entire staff being male--but I'm not going to lie, we were all happy.
Honestly, Dino's is the reason I joined Yelp - ever since I went, I've been thinking about what a nice time I'd had there. That has to be recognized.
I had the "greek god" pasta, which is feta/olive oil/garlic. I expected a little bit of feta. I got a mountain of feta, and when I gave my companions a bite, they rolled their eyes up into their skulls and proclaimed "Oh my GOD, that's good." Everything I sampled of theirs was good as well...but you can't argue with a boatload of cheese.
The waitstaff really needs to be complimented on their service, though--I took a few bites of my friend's salad, because she wanted me to share it, and suddenly there was an extra plate for me to spoon salad onto. We ordered wine, and three seconds later, there it was. When I was done with my pasta, about ten bites in (it was rich! what?!) one of the waiters had it boxed, bagged, and ready to go.
Most notably, the owner or manager-on-duty joked with us the entire time, and just as we were about to pay our bill, he said, "You ladies can't LEAVE!" (I'm going to guess the people waiting in line would beg to differ.) "How about I buy you some more wine, or perhaps some dessert?" (Well, okay!)
So we had a couple of pieces of cheesecake, between the three of us, and it was a lovely evening.
Will definitely go back when I'm in the area.
At the time of this review, Dino's rating is 3 and a half stars... so I of course had to put in my hat for Dinos because they absolutely deserve 4.
Their greek pizza could be presented to the greek gods, it is so awesomely delicious. Not everyone can make a good greek pizza. Some places put too much feta and overpowers the entire pizza. But they put just the right amount. And most places don't include meat, but the salami goes perfect with all the other ingredients - salty and crisp out of the oven. Perfect!
Service is always very nice and they're always happy to see you.
I love this place! I have been here twice since my first review and both times I was treated like a queen! I'll be back for sure.

Just went to the FAB pizza party on the street and it was great!
Beer- pizza and fun times. The pizza is thin- hot and NY style. Can't go wrong- I have to say that this is great pizza. Go Dino Go!
This review is only for their take out service.
The other night we decided we were way too tired to cook dinner ourselves but we had in inkling for some pasta. We called up at about 8pm on Sunday and ordered some egg plant Parmesan and some vegetarian lasagne.
The Pros:
1. They actually delivered on a Sunday night after 8pm
2. It took 45 minutes for delivery (not bad, and it was exactly how long they told us it would be.
3. HUGE portions for a decent price. Both entrees came with garlic bread and a huge salad (most of which is still sitting in the fridge because it was just too much food)
The Cons:
1. Food was just okay
2. I don't know if it was me or the food but my vegetarian lasagna tasted like someone had sprayed it with the green Chloroseptic throat spray (it is a distinct taste) I tried to give it a chance and it started tasting better but I don't think I will be ordering this entree again.
3. My boyfriend's eggplant dish was okay- not great- but it was take out after all.
I would give this place a second chance and if you are just looking for huge portions you are good to go with this place.
Had dinner with family here on St. Patrick's day. The pizza was actually pretty good. It was light, piping hot and the toppings were good. We split 3 mediums between 6 people. We ordered specialty pies, The Mountain, Hawaiian Star (with feta substituted for bacon) and the Vegetarian. All of these pizzas were excellent. The price was okay at about $20 per couple.
All in all, the experience was pretty good and we didn't have to wait to be seated.
In other news, there is a single washroom at the back that was clean.
I was pretty disappointed with Dino's. It was my second trip there, and I was willing to give it another shot. I'm sorry I did.
Mostly, I just didn't think the pizza was very good. The service was fine and the salads were large (hence the two stars), but a pizza place needs to have good pizza! Perhaps I'm spoiled, living by Goat Hill Pizza, but I just was left very unfulfilled by Dino's.
We split a medium pizza between three people, and none of us had more than two slices. And I don't think we missed out by doing so.
I had the House Blend....great meatballs sausages combo spaghetti! Our pitcher of Hefeweizen was huge for only $15. My friend had the lasagna which was perfect. Cozy restaurant. We will be back!
A great little neighborhood joint...same people there every time I go, which tells me they are happy there. Or secretly chained up to some invisible tether.
Try the garden salad with eggplant. It's a quick order if you're in a hurry, and can only be made better with a hunk of garlic bread. Housemade Italian vinaigrette= deliciousness. Pair that up with some eclectic people-watching on Fillmore and you have a very entertaining hour ahead of you.
I'd just like to release this little PSA: Do not, under any circumstance, mess with Dino. If you think you might want to get mouthy with him, keep in mind, he could twist a stack of rebar into an Eiffel Tower model without the help of any machinery. Seriously, those arms are like, where's the gun show? He apprehended a purse-snatcher who hit some businesses up the street before his, and I don't think any envy was afoot. Nope, don't want to be that guy/girl.
Good food, fair prices- especially for the neighborhood- and hey, you'll be REALLY safe while dining there! I can't bring myself to cheat on Dino with Delfina.....
Good, solid no-frills pizza.
Dino's has been holding court on the Fillmore & California intersection for over a decade now. Dino himself is a good guy who seems to know everyone up and down this stretch of Fillmore St. and is the man responsible for the beautiful Christmas lights that will reappear up and down the street in the near future. I appreciate businesses that are good partners to their community--Dino's all the way!
The pizza is good--not the most amazing I've ever had, but not bad either--and some fresh garlic will give it an extra zing.
This place was a local favorite in my high school days. Good pizzas and pastas. Quick and friendly service. Grab a slice for lunch, or order whole for dinner with family and friends. Nothing better than biting into a thick slice of pepperoni pizza heavy and loaded with cheese.
My favorite 'must past the test' dish in any Italian restaurant is the Chicken Parmigiana. Dino's passes with flying colors.
One of my favorite hangouts on Fillmore. Bring your appetite.
