This restaurant took over the spot where John's Express used to be. Right around the corner from Johns Hopkins Hospital, it is not in an unsafe area although the neighborhood is a little grungy.
As an Italian and Greek food place staffed my mostly Hispanic folks, this place is a bit of an oddity, but good if you are on the run and are in the neighborhood trying to find something to eat other than hospital food. The newly renovated space is nice as well- they took their time to fix it up and you can tell- both the inside and outside looks nice- especially in contrast to the surrounding area.
The Italian subs and gyros are good, but skip the fries- they taste a little off. I can't quite put my finger on what it is that makes them taste the way they do, but it's not worth the extra few bucks to order them. The rest of the menu is typical of a "fast food- deli- mish mash" place. There are many yummy looking desserts as well.
Ok- update- I got the Grilled Chicken Salad and have tried the Tuna salad. both lasted a solid 2 lunches and were FANTASTIC. The grilled chicken salad is warm and yummy and served with a side of warm pita. The lettuce is REAL lettuce- no iceberg here and comes with caucumbers, tomatoes, and an egg.
This place is consistent, has great food, and large portions. I'm upgrading this place to 4 stars.
