15 reviews for Dinah's Garden Hotel
For the price in this are Dinah's is great. Many of the rooms have steam showers and fully appointed kitchenettes. I believe these are the business suites? They are huge with a plush quality leather couch and provacative art.
We stayed there for 100 bucks. The location is great, the price for the room in this area just can't be beat.
The linens were higher end, bed was uber-comfy, clean and fresh. Somehow the exercise bike was even a little sexy. The room was perfectly quiet and building we were in had a very private feel. I only wish they served finer grade (Peets?) coffee in the lobby or rooms in the morning. I will stay here again soon.
Dinah's was just fine. I can imagine that a generation ago this must have been a pretty cool place to stay if you were visiting your kids at Stanford. There's something about the rooms and the decor that has a swinging sixties vibe to it.
The gardens and the ponds are an interesting and pleasant feature, but it doesn't make it the lush tropical retreat that the hotel seems to think it is. Also I object to the characterization of the facility as a "hotel" since all the doors open to the outside, making it technically a "motel." But "Dinah's Garden Motel" doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it?
The staff was polite, parking is easy and they have a few pastries and coffee out in the morning. Some complimentary bathroom basics are available (like toothbrushes). The room rate was about $190 including taxes. Pretty steep in my opinion, and next time I think I'll stay at the Westin down the street.
As a professional who worked at an event in this hotel we were not provided the food contracted to be served for us. When we asked about it the reply we received from the catering manager was: "Well, I'll see what I can do."
In some time a meal very different than the one served to the rest of the guests was brought out for us, although we are certain that the same meal was paid for. It was some kind of overcooked ham with more fat than meat on the plate. After genuinely trying to eat it, I gave up, even though I was hungry, because the food was utterly disgusting.
This hotel was contracted to feed vendors the same food as the guests. They did not deliver and I would advise others intending to hold an event at this venue to make sure they're not being charged extra for food that will not be provided.
- Good location. Close to San Antonio Shopping Center. Only 2 miles from high way 101 so going anywhere in the valley is easy.
- Polite people. Once I forgot my mobile charger and some foreign cash in the room when checking out, they kept it in nice and tidy plastic bags waiting for me to claim.
- Nice garden and water, not that you can relax and sunbath in it, but it gives me a peace of mind when I start my day in the morning.
- Easy parking.
- Reasonable price.
This is where i stay when work flies me into Palo Alto. It's a very cute hotel, sprinkled with fountains, Buddhist figurines and coi within shallow ponds that run between the buildings. The lobby has complementary apples, strawberry-citrus-mint infused water, coffee and apples, as well as a business center to do some computing and printing.
The decor is very dated - think the 1960s. Some rooms are updated with beech colored furniture, but most of the rooms are a deep old school brown.
Some of the standard 1 bed king rooms are bigger than others, with the larger ones facing the pool and having space for a small dining table and loveseat. Bedrooms upstairs have vaulted ceilings. The rooms a bit in the back have decent patios to lounge, should you choose to do so. The restroom is fairly large with a heater to warm you up during the winter months (it's cold coming out of a shower!)
The price is right for the area. If you're looking for a place to stay that isn't too expensive, you should consider Dinah's.
I came here for Valentine's Day and we stayed in an amazing suite with antiques, art and an amazing steam room/shower that made the entire evening worth the stay. This is not a modern hotel with the latest trends, but it is elegant and classy. I love the grounds and the pools with the Koi fish.
Staff was friendly and attentive.
I have a comment to make. I stayed at Dinah's garden hotel twice and although I enjoyed my room and my stay, my check out bill was more than the quoted price when I made the reservation. Since I did not have anything in writing to prove the quoted price, I had to eat the difference. I was told "oh that rate was for a garden room or no, we never offer that rate, sorry ... "
Best to make sure you get the rates in writing before you check in.
Wow! What a spectacular little gem, right in our backyard.
Dinah's does it right - just like my fiance, who surprised me with a birthday get away. With the only hint being to pack an overnight bag, cocktail dress and bathing suit - I had no idea where I was being taken.
We pulled up to this AMAZING spot, with elephant statues and massive exotic trees greeting us, I was still unsure as to where we were. The lobby is gorgeous, the staff polite and helpful, the rooms.....the rooms! SO GREAT!
The rooms are so retro - it's almost safe to say that you can't just fake reliving the 70's like this (anywhere else) - cool art, retro lamps, tables and chairs. Whoever decorated this place must have been a flower child themselves.
The pool is beautiful, clean and the patio area is shared with the restaurant. It makes for a really nice atmosphere.
Boys, if you want to surprise your girl with a special weekend getaway without driving too far, this place will definitely do the trick, especially when you take your special someone to TRADER VICS for dinner.
.....and I didn't even describe the california king, the bar in or room, the apples or the lagoon.
What an exotic and beautiful little inn right off el camino real. you'd have no idea. the rooms are large, the beds are new and they don't cheat on sheet coverage (for those of us who are tall, we know very well that most hotels these days cheat by using a flat sheet where a fitted one should be, and these flat sheets invariably ride up exposing us to a very unhygienic sleeping experience). the thread count must have been at least 350, which is unexpected at the prices they quote for the rooms.
we had room 601, undoubtedly the best room available. it was on the end, with a bar area complete with fridge and large sink. outside the sliding glass doors was a large patio with lots of privacy in the form of very tall and lush bamboo. we were provided with three low-sitting comfortable lounge chairs, a small table and a large ash tray, perfect for three girls trying to get away from it all. the best part of the patio was a pond that came right up to the edge and flowed in a figure eight through the rest of the grounds, with more exotic plants and bamboo inside the figure 8. we had ducks and large koi to watch. so polynesian, i really felt like i was on a vacation.
the swimming pool was large and of perfect temperature, not too cold at all, not overheated. large enough to do laps and not get in anyone's face. comfortable chaise lounges lined the pool with umbrellas for those with sensitive skin.
we stayed up late talking, and drinking wine on our exotic patio on a pond and heard no one, nor felt that we were disturbing anyone.
Dinah's was one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in. tasteful and comfortable without a hint of tacky extravagance.
if you just want to get away with some girlfriends for the weekend, or are passing through on your way to somewhere else, this is the the place to stay. 100% perfect.
I was visiting Stanford U on business and Dinah's Garden Inn was suggested for my stay.
The university is probably a 10-15 minute drive to/from the hotel during rush the hours.
I was fortunate to have an Executive Suite and what a pleasant surprise this was. The Executive Suites has its own building on the hotel grounds.
- Large room (probably close to two standard rooms put together)
- Desk area
- Sitting area (couch and chairs
- Dining area
- Large TV (not big screen)
- Marble/granite tile floors
- King bed
- Exercise bike
- Exercise mat in the closet
- Walk-in closet with dressing table./desk
- Fold-down iron board and iron
- Weights
- Extra bedding (pillows and blanket)
- Large, deep whirlpool tub
- Robe and slippers provided
- Microwave oven, sink, refrigerator, sink, cutlery, disheware, glasses, cups, etc.
- (2) apples provided each day
- drinks in refer for a charge
Overall, my stay was very excellent. Room service was great , food was great. Trader Vic's is the restaurant on site and the food and service were excellent.
The theme of the hotel is the Dutch East Indies Shipping and Trading era. A sign is posted at the desk that Dutch, Tagalog and English are spoken at the hotel. I heard two of three languages, no Dutch. The quality of the furnishings throughout the grounds was very nice.
I would recommend this hotel.
I don't know if I'll get lucky enough to get the executive sweet again, but I'm sure the other rooms are quite nice, but perhaps not as luxurious..
I'm spending the week at PARC and Dinah's was the most popular hotel on City Search. I have a deluxe lagoon room on the second floor. It overlooks a nice little lagoon area. There is a four inch balcony...if you can call it that, but the view is nice with the drapes drawn. This room has a sitting area that is relatively spacious and free T1 internet connectivity.
I took a look at the first floor lagoon rooms. It was the same size but had an exercise bike in it. The downside for me was that the lagoon water was green and the patio was connected without walls to the other rooms.
The poolside rooms appeared a bit cramped for me.
The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is OLDER. You can tell by the furniture and the somewhat musty smell in some of the hallways. There are also a few bugs to contend with this time of year. I found a fairly good-sized spider and several small moths during the week.
It's location is relatively close to Stanford and like most hotels/motels here, you have access to just about everything.
All in all a nice place, but if you're looking for a modern hotel this is not it.
I came here for a friend's wedding and while it's a lovely hotel I have to say the space for the ceremony is kind of retro 70s and not in a good way which is a shame as the hotel does have some lovely gardens with rivers and streams and bridges but they're not really set up well to host a ceremony in the gardens so the ceremony was by the pool which looks like your standard community pool in an apartment complex. It's not awful just know you're going to have to bring a lot of stuff to dress up the place.
Kinda cute.... Kinda old.... and kinda expensive...
Tired of hotels that look like every other one on the planet? You'll love Dinah's. The hotel, rooms and grounds are unique and elegant. The service is top notch and the rooms are quite spacious. Don't miss dinner at Trader Vic's!
Usually when we go to Palo Alto, we like to stay at the Creekside Inn. When we couldn't get a room there last week, I browsed the net a bit and wound up with Dinah's. They also had no regular rooms available, but did have some suites. I booked the least expensive suite, thinking we wouldn't be there that long anyway, but when we arrived, we were told that we had been upgraded to the FDR suite. Sweet! It was everything the ad on the net said. You could have a small party in the bathroom. The shower had 6 heads, and was also a steam room. Not into steam myself, but my husband, my son, and his girlfriend, wearing bathing suits of course, tried it out and thought it was great. There was a large sitting room, a flat screen tv, fireplace, and the drapes were remote controlled. If we had been interested there was a yoga mat in the closet along with some free weights. Our room overlooked the lagoon, not a real plus for me, but I won't bore you with my fear of fish story.
