Dim Sum King is where you want to take "non-asians" for their first dim sum experience, Why?

1. Clean and nice physical appearance
2. Calm staff that is very patient with their customers
3. No gunk on any of the pieces in the plate setting
4. Very thorough chinese dim sum menu accurately translated into english
5.good chinese food that won;t break the bank!

when coming here first, you can ease whoever you're trying to impress into the chinese culture as it may be a shock for the majority... and while i don't mind eating in a typical dim sum restaurant that has a screaming staff, semi-gunky plate settings, run down in appearance.. Dim Sum King is a great alternative to crazy, hectic ambiance typical to a restaurant on clement or in chinatown..

big plus! the parking situation is wayyyyyyy better!!

I believe things happen for a reason.

If King Wah in Westlake wasn't closed for remodeling, we probably would have never dined at Dim Sum King. Well, maybe not NEVER, but much longer.

Our experience didn't start out so great at first. My mom tried to make reservations for our party of 8, but the person on the other line said they didn't accept reservations. Pooh! We just had to get here right when they open at 10am. When we did get there, our party expanded from 8 to 13. We requested for a larger table that we saw was available, but the guy told us it was "reserved." Oh, that did not got well with my mom! Eventually they were able to accommodate all of us, and we were off and ordering.

Service here is 10x better than over at King Wah in Westlake! We were celebrating my sister's birthday, and I brought in some cupcakes. The waitress asked if I would like them to put the cupcakes in the fridge. So nice of them - I didn't even have to ask! Also, the wait staff actually acknowledges you when you are looking at them dead in the eye, and they thank YOU for making their job easier when you bring your water glasses to them so they don't have to walk around the entire round table re-filling 13 water glasses. And they SMILE! Service with a smile at a busy Chinese restaurant, who wudda thunk?!

The dim sum was pretty good, too! Only thing is that you have write the quantity next to the order you want, and they'll bring it all out to you fairly quickly straight from the kitchen. I don't memorize the names of the dishes that I like - I'm more of a visual person. That's why I like the carts. But with the carts, you may be waiting forever for that one dish that you are looking for, and by the time it comes around you're working on dessert. It may be tough at first to figure out the dishes you like, but in the end I think the concept of this place is an advantage.

One big CON: They charge $1 per person for tea! What the?! Seriously?

Prices aren't the cheapest, but I'd come here any day over others just for the service and cleanliness. And this place gets packed on Sunday, so come early!

Great alternative to Koi Palance or Tai Wu for some dim sum on the weekend. What that said, Dim Sum King really can't beat Koi Palace in taste, but it can in various other areas - wait time, service, speed, etc.

The wait here is non-existent every time I come here, usually half emptied restaurant. The service and speed is really fast on all common dishes, e.g. ha gao, shui mai, etc.  The taste is decent, but nothing extraordinary.

Overall, Dim Sum King is a great place to go if you don't like to wait an hour for table and the prices are reasonably lower than Koi Palance. Plus Ranch 99 is just across the plaza!

We enjoy coming here whenever we go to ranch 99. It's just convenient. They are very clean and services are pretty friendly. Although not all their food was top notch, most of them are comparable to dim sum from hong kong. There are typically long lines here so get there when they open up at 10am. enjoy

Cravin dimsum are you?  My bff and I were starving and thought of 99
Ranch as a perfect place to go.  We found Dim Sum King and saw that the prices were pretty decent.  However, for a 1st-timer, we had no clue what to do. 'Do WE write the quantities on the sheet?' or 'Do they?'  Well, they'll give you a menu and you just write down the number of plates you want per entree.  We had the Siu Mai (2), Shrimp Dumplings (regular and deep fried), shrimp and chives, fried calamari, chicken and salt fish fried rice, and beef egg white and cilantro soup. (yes, we were starving!)  All of the reviews say they're pretty expensive.  But for all of that- we spent $50 inluding tip.  We had a lot of leftovers.  It was all sooooo soooo good.  So I had no complaints.  The staff was very helpful, and the food came super quick.

I guess this place is not for dim sum newbs, because it's firmly in the "no cart" school. You write a number next to the name of the dish, call over a waiter, and pretty quickly you have hot fresh dim sum whisked right to your table. The English translations are good, however - but I still didn't see everything I was looking for.

Favorites were the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf and the baked char siu bao. Then the shrimp wrapped in rice noodle, which were good but a bit heavy on the sesame oil. The pot sticker filling was great, but it would have been nice to have the things fried just a bit more. Har gow, siu mai, etc. were good but not outstanding.

A classy touch is that the soy and chili sauce are in white porcelain containers that coordinate with the dishes, salt and pepper shakers. I have no idea why there's a salt shaker, considering how salty the soy sauce is.

Jasmine tea served, didn't ask what I kind of tea I wanted - but they probably didn't expect some non-Chinese person to order chrysanthemum anyway.

A lot of people were having chicken feet and something else that I couldn't identify, so if you like these things this might be something to order.

A good place for moderately priced dim sum if you're in the area. Really hot dim sum - since it comes from the kitchen there's no cooling off period in a cart.

Unique way to get dim sum! You check off the things you want on a paper or you put a number next to the item in the menu, then off it goes to the kitchen! This was the first dim sum place I'ever been to that doesn't have people pushing carts asking you what you want. In some ways, that's pretty cool but it doesn't really feel like you're eating dim sum without those carts being around!

I ALWAYS have to get my usual whenever I go eat dimsum, black bean chicken feet or stewed beef tribe! They always make my tummy happy. What I enjoyed about this place was that everything we ordered came out together, all at once! It's guaranteed that it's fresh & hot! Unless they have everything in the back.... Well, right when it hit the table, it was time to chow down! The rest of the time, the workers only came when we needed more tea.

Not sure how much dim sum was, but I think it started at $2? My table ordered a lot to feed 6 people & 2 of them have like 2 stomachs so we ordered even more! It's not the best dim sum in the world, but it's okay!  Also, I love the interior of this restaurant! It really doesn't look like a dim sum place.

Dim Sum King is a pretty good place. It's not the cheapest place, but it's not bad. Their foods are pretty good, not as oily as most places. Their employees circle the floor a lot too, so if you have a request, they'll get to it promptly.

But I do have one complaint about this place, their rice noodle roll needs a little more... care. Most of the noodle rolls that I ordered here are all broken! Not one good one.

Ok, I lied, I have another complaint (well, it's not really a complaint, more of a preference, I guess). They don't have carts that go around the floor for you to pick visually. They have a paper where you check off what you want, not a lot of Bay Area places do it this way. For a newbie or anyone who can't read Chinese but memorize what they like via Chinese, it's probably hard to know what you want without seeing it.

But overall, this place is pretty good.

Dim sums are good there. Although you have to wait during sat/sun afternoon rush, but I like that I can come dinner time and have dim sum.
Once you get in, the service is super fast. Come with an empty stomach and chow down on great dim sums.

I don't necessarily agree that they're the "king" of dim sum, but pretty close. Their prices and dim sum selections are up to standard. Aside from dim sum, they also have the typical Chow Fun, Noodles, Fried Rice and Meat, Veggie and Seafood entrees.

Here, you simply jot down the quantity of order you'd like next to the name of the dishes from their menu sheet and return it to the wait staff. No old school cart-pushing, screaming ladies here.

The entire kitchen can be seen from the dining area through huge glass windows. There you will see loads of bamboo steamers piled up high and chefs working the wok. It's actually shockingly clean for a Chinese restaurant!

Great dim sum, reasonable prices, great selections, and fast service.

Weekends can get very busy so come early.

I have nothing against this establishment. As the foodie organizer, I have to take in consideration my caucasian buddies' recommendations no matter what background they hail from.  So when I went to this place, I came in with a grain of salt since none of my pals were chinese.

Aaaaaand...I was right. This place has made to order selections which at least makes the food fresher than most. But most of the flavors were mellowed to passable edibles, like their pork siu mai and har gow.  The beef rice noodles weren't as good as the barbecued pork rice noodle rolls. Having said that, our only little kiddo had to wait an extremely long time for his serving of chow mein, while everyone scarfed down their food.  Poor thing! So as far as food goes, there was no awe factor...but the prices were very reasonable.

Plus, you can definitely find a table here even on a weekend. Parking is okay, but not so good on the weekends, you gotta fight the Ranch 99 crew..and they can get mean (hey old lady, Stop giving me the evil eye! I got here first!)

I live pretty close to this place and I've been here multiple times. The cool part is that they serve dim sum all day, even for dinner. This is perfect for me since I have cravings for dim sum around dinner sometimes. The food is decent in my opinion. They have dim sum and some rice dishes, noodles, and whatnot.

One of the downsides is parking. It's pretty difficult to get parking in this area since the lot is always packed. There are always a ton of people coming to shop at the 99 Ranch Market and other places too.

Came here with my fam and friend as an alternative to Koi Palace, since I didn't want to be waiting in line at 1 pm on a Saturday afternoon for dim sum. And let me put a twist on an old saying: you get what you wait for. As hungry as I was, nothing was to die for.

The good things:
1. the shrimp in both the shrimp dumplings and shrimp flat rice noodle wrap (ha cheung) was very fresh;
2. the spareribs were not too fatty and were cut into bite-sized pieces, 3. the XO sauced pan-fried rice noodle looked like it was too sauced up before it was pan-fried, but it actually was very good and not extremely spicy.

The service was not horrible like other Chinese places, but it wasn't great either. So don't expect the best. You won't find it here.

We came here for lunch today.  Food is so average here.  No surprise at all.

Spicy Cucumber: Not spicy at all.  But, cucumber was fresh enough.
Chicken Feet:   Okay
Thousand Layers Cake: So dried. It's like a brick.
Shrimp Dumpling: Okay
Beef Rice Noodles Roll: Okay
Veggie Tofu Roll: The sauce was too sweet.

Parking can be a problem here.  Service was okay as we came in after 1 pm.

This place has been slacking. When I first ate here it was super yum! I was here Saturday and the food is not as fresh as I remember and the price has gone up. They get bonus points for serving dim sum all day but serving not-so-fresh food just doesn't cut it. We ordered: (please excuse the spelling errors)

Har Gaw (good)
Siu Mai (shrimp tasted very shrimpy = not fresh)
Spareribs (mostly bones)
steamed pork buns (small and little meat)
Chinese broccoli w/oyster sauce (this was actually VERY good)
pot stickers (eh, okay)
chicken and corn soup (not a lot of flavor.. I had to add a lot of soy sauce and white pepper)

They were really good about filling up our water (which is rare at a Chinese restaurant).

We paid $45 for that stuff (before tip). It's no long worth the price.

Timeout for Dim Sum King.

Dim Sum King haha, what an awesome name! I love variety. Came hear a few times and each time the experience was pretty decent. Some of the dishes taste funny like the yellow puffy cake (not sure what it' called). I complained and they just took it off. But really, how fresh or healthy can DIM SUM really be?

This place is ok. It will satisfy your craving but stick to the dimsum. I tried the green onion pancake and it was DRY and not flavorful at all. The price is also decent. Service also sucks, the "servers" usually all hang around the register and talk rather than pay attention to the customers.. usually one or two are running around taking orders, cleaning etc. Overall, decent place, decent price and decent food. Average.

Sure, the place is sorta clean, quick service, etc. Some okay dishes, but overall there are much better places than Dim Sum King for the prices you pay.

Dim Sum King only gets one star from me. One star for every strand of hair that was in our salt and pepper calamari (which, I must add, was not very salt and peppery at all).

So me and the boys came here last night for some dinner thinking it's really good. they have a one page (front and back) check list of dim sum and a small booklet of other non dim sum items. the service was nice but they did hover. it did take a little bit for the food to arrive and truthfully i thought it was a bit over priced for what they have. if you are looking for some kick ass dim sum, try going to chinatown or clement. little hole in the walls add flavors to food.

I've been here a few times, and really... this is the friendliest (to my knowledge) dim sum restaurant that serves non-chinese/asian patrons. Considering that I'm Chinese, and have barely a grasp of my parent's native tongue, this is a good thing. Not to mention that I have friends who come here who wouldn't necessarily look all out of place, but definitely wouldn't be comfortable in a Chinatown restaurant.

Dim sum here is served ALL day long. When they open, till when they close at night, which is pretty late. I've been here on a couple of occasions, in which me and my friends decided to make a run out from San Francisco to Daly City, simply because we could get dim sum at 9pm. I think on Fridays and Saturdays, they stay open till midnight.

The service is pretty good, considering that most of the servers do not speak English as their first language. The tables look a little ratty looking, but I trust that they wipe clean the tops. The tea was pretty good, and the choices of dim sum was pretty good. My gf and I staked out this place a couple of months ago, and due to the hours that they serve dim sum here, my friends and I come here often. Not every week, but to count, they've been there 3 times now in the last 2 months.

Parking is typical of any place that hosts Ranch 99 in their complex. So I tend to come here at night after 7pm, when parking isn't a nightmare. The food may not be the best, but it's definitely dim sum, and not the kind that sucks. On a whole, it's really due to the atmosphere, and the fact that it's open late that I give it 4 stars. Har Gow is good, and the other stuff is great as well. Eating here almost always fils the belly, but never leaves your wallet empty. So if it's late, and you're craving some shrimp rice noodles, this is definitely the place to go.

Well I had high hopes for Dim Sum King, I always look for places that the locals go to. Lots of Chinese people here so I thought I would give it a try. BORING!  The har gaw was flavorless, sesame balls greasy the pork with cilantro was okay. The wonton soup need major flavor enhancements, it tasted like its been watered down  a couple of times. Prices for the dim sum was okay, everything else was about ten dollars a entree. Pricey for what it was

I love love love dim sum king! I love how there's so much space between tables your chairs don't end up bumping into each other like a lot of the other dim sum places.. And no carts being pushed around, an extra bonus might I add.. You check them off a sheet they give you when seated. The food always comes out hot and fresh! Whenever I feel for dim sum this is where I go. Oh and I think they serve dim sum 24 hours!  (well not 24 hours, but for all the hours which they are open. haha) Which is great since sometimes I wake up at 3 in the afternoon hahaha.

If your like me and can't wake up early enough or don't have time to make it to dim sum in the morning... DIM SUM KING saves me from those dim sum cravings!

The dim sum is not bad, a little bit above alright. They have almost everything they would have at any dim sum restaurants. My favorites are the spareribs, chicken feet, lotus leaf rice.... yum. The lotus leaf is a little bit on the mushy side but still eatable. I only wish the custard tarts and sesame balls came out fresh. But I'm sure making dim sum there are certain things that are on demand than others.

Should be 4 stars (as I'm not too thrilled about the service---being that I'm non-Cantonese-speaking) but the extra star is for serving dim sum for dinner as well. My nephew thinks they have the best yang chow fried rice, shrimp and mango rolls, and fried donuts with fun.

Just be prepared for the very limited menu at night.

I didn't think finding a good dim sum restaurant in Daly City was possible.

Moms and Grandma came up from LA for Mother's day Weekend vacation.  We stopped at Dim Sum King not knowing anything about the restaurant except there were 1,000,000 people inside, good sign.

My mom can out eat your mom, any day, any food.  But her pallet is quite defined for someone who loves to eat.  She thought the food was pretty good.

Dim Sum King is the place I always go for dim sum.  It's moderately priced, I think the waiters are friendly, it's near my house, and the dim sum is fresh and delicious.

My favorite dim sum dish has always been the shrimp roll and they have a really good one here.  Their red bean balls are really good, too, and all their vegetables are cooked and seasoned well and never overcooked.  I haven't had anything here I disliked beside the sticky rice in lotus leaf and that only because I never really liked sticky rice in lotus leaf (i think it's boring).

Overall, I enjoy this place, but I don't always enjoy waiting on saturday/ sunday afternoons, and the dim sum at koi palace is more delicious, but also more expensive.

I love me some dim sum! If you go here, be prepared to wait a bit. It's hard to find parking on the weekends because the plaza is packed. When you get to the restaurant, it's also packed and there's usually a wait and not a lot of seating for you to sit and wait.

The waiters aren't very attentive and do not go out of their way to be friendly. Also, this dim sum place isn't the kind where they run by with carts, which sucks cause I like to see what I'm ordering when it comes to dim sum. There's a large menu and if you don't know the name of the dish you want to order, you'll have to guess what it is on the menu or look at another table and point to it for the waiter to get it for you. After all the guessing games though, the food is pretty good. Nothing that really stands out except for the bill. It's a bit overpriced here. I would choose Canton Dim Sum Restaurant over this place hands down. I wouldn't ban this place, but I would only go here on an as needed basis.

Went here for dinner with a friend.  It's one of the only places that I know  that serves dim sum around the clock.  You have to check-off the dim-sum you want to order on an order sheet and then the wait staff will take your order to kitchen to have your order prepared.

We had the foiled chicken, stuffed tofu, stuffed mushrooms, salt and pepper wings, and spareribs.

All-in-all, as with most dim-sum places, everything was kinda drenched in oil, but it's to be expected.

The service was okay, but I would only go here if you have no other places to go to if it's already late, are around Skyline and 99 Ranch area, or have a dim-sum craving outside normal dim-sum restaurant hours.

Dimsum King serves great food with decent price. For part of 4, we ordered about 10 dishes and comes out to be $40 exclude tips. Unlike other dimsum places, there are no staffs that push dimsum cart around. You make your selection by checking off what you want on this dimsum ordering sheet. It does take the fun out the dimsum experience. I enjoy waiting for my favorite dish to be served. When all choices are laid in front of me, I don't really know what to pick. But if there is someone pushes or walks around with dimsum trays or cart, I most likely will not be as picky. I will get most dishes that I think is a okay since I'm usually starved (if I do pick dimsum for breakfast).

This place is pretty decent if you don't want to spend a fortune by going to Mayflower or the one near King Dr. They do serve great food but it is also pricey as well. Their sesame balls are to die for!

Today was my first experience eating at dim sum king.  The food was okay.  Their fu-kin chow fun was good but their spicy beef comb was gross.  I've had better.  The service was really poor, like SUPER POOR. We asked for our bill and they didn't pick it up until we asked them to.  Plus, it was uber expensive.  They sat us next to the kitchen even though they had better seats. I would not come here again and the only reason I did was b/c King Wah was under construction.

There was a total of 4 of us young adults...ranging from 23-26 or so.  They decided to seat us next to a large round table of other young folks...it looked like some type of birthday celebration or something like it.  The only problem was we were next to the dirty dishes cart and a few feet from the bathroom.  We asked to sit elsewhere.  The waiter said while looking around the 80% empty restaurant...."sorry, there is no other table."  We looked at each other confused thinking maybe they are expecting a party and are setting up the farther end of the restaurant.
Two minutes later, another group of 4 walk in (they looked to be 30ish?) and were seated with majority of the other guests and in the middle of the dining room.  We wave down the waiter and ask again, "can we sit somewhere else?  It smells here and any other table will be better than this."  Again he says "there is no other table."  Beginning to get angry and annoyed, we decided to move to a table closer to the door.  We tell the waiter we are moving and he says nothing.  He just comes over to the new table and changes our table # on the menu.

We sit and tally up our order but everyone is already upset at the situation.  We give them a chance to fix their problem but after waiting for 5 minutes and not being acknowledged, we all got up and walked out.  We didn't pay for the stupid tea.  We didn't want to ever go back.

Avoid this place like the plague.

this place wasn't bad at all, the prices were o.k.  and the food was fresh.  Not overwhelming, the service was average as well.

Any place that claims to be "King" better dish out.  Man, oh man.  This one was a miss.  There's really no reason for me to venture outside of the city for good dim sum, but we kept passing by this place.  It was the "King" that kept luring us.   Shame on Dim Sum King...it's almost false advertising.

Here's what we ordered for about $26:
- Shu Mai
- Har gow - Decent.  Nothing special
- XO noodles - burnt noodles = no good
- shrimp dumpling - No flavor
- shrimp and chives - 3 very large pieces.  So large that the peel was too thick and chewy.
- salt and pepper chicken - where's the salt and pepper?  Instead, these hairy wings were covered with that funky chinese herb/powder.
- Sticky rice in lotus leaf - they were big with huge chunks of chinese sausages
- White rice noodles w/Beef - Where's the beef!?  I took a bite and left the rest.  We couldn't tell whether the pink meat sitting inside was beef or something else.  It looked so strange that we actually had to ask the waiter, who looked puzzled himself.

Chinese places aren't known for their spectacular service, but this place seriously lacked.  After our 15 min wait, we waited another 15 mins just for someone to take our paper order.  Our ice water came out after a few dishes did.  But boy, they were right on it when we asked for the bill.

So what did I learn?  Stick within the city.  South Sea Seafood on Irving is a hit, Hong Kong Seafood on Noriega works, and Ton Kiang is always a fave (although a little more pricey than the others).

Been here a couple times the first time being early on when they first opened. The taste was pretty ordinary and nothing stood out.  The second I time was with the family during christmas.  My sister was in from Irvine and my brother from boston with his g/f.  We ordered a variety of dim sum items and they came out fairly quickly and all the items tasted great.  I'm told by my friends that the food is fairly cheap for a nice restaurant style dining experience (i haven't paid the bill here yet).

Like i've said before, i love round tables when eating with family cause it makes conversations much easier to understand and it's a great way to share food.  Parking and driving around the parking lot is atrocious so make sure you come early.  In the shopping center is a bunch of asian restaurants and a supermarket, so there are plenty of terrible asian drivers ready to hit your car.

Definitely going to go back and try it again later.
