Went here for Happy Hour on a Saturday. Good service, no complaints there. I ordered the chocolate covered cherry martini, the fromage plate and something I don't remember the name of (Market toast??).

The first few sips of the martini were Divine. I was in heaven.... It was chocolaty, but not over-the-top. The drink had the perfect amount of "cherry flavor". All was going well, until the first appetizer (market toast?). It was Flagship cheese and cherry chutney on a crostini. The chutney-to-cheese ratio was way off. It was so sweet that I couldn't taste the cheese. By this time, my stomach was craving something savory to counterbalance my drink and the appetizer. The fromage plate turned out to be a generous chunk of brie, slathered in pecans and ........ honey.

I consider myself to have a considerably large sweet tooth, but this was a bit much to handle before dinner. I'll probably try Dilettante again in the future, but I'll make sure that I'm in the mood for dessert first.

I have to say, Dillettante Chocolate is completely delicious! I've been there a couple times. The first I had the ice cream sundae, one of my favorite desserts. It was served in a chocolate cup and complete with their special Dilletante fudge. YUMMM!!!

The second time my husband and I went. He had the tiramisu, I had the bread pudding. I can honestly say, the bread pudding was THE best I've ever had. It's soaked in rum, is soft and creamy and full of flavor! The tiramisu was on the same scale as the bread pudding. What can I say, except wow!? We're going to make it a Valentine's Day tradition.

My only gripe is that service is a little slow and you kind of have to fight through the crowds to get a table/waited on. Totally worth it!

I love the drinks. The ephemere 62% dark chocolate mocha is one of the best I've ever had.  Price is comparable to a Starbucks drink (~$3.75).

The food though left something greatly to be desired.  It's presented to you pretty well but when you look at the core of it, it's something anyone could do.

I've had the Tiramisu and Strawberry Chantilly.  Both are delicious, sweet and fatty, and serve as great catalysts for Type-2 Diabetes :)

Oh my!

Because of this place I'm going to be SURE to be yelping for some good Chocolate Martini Bars (if they even exists...which I'm sure it does..somewhere...) in the Bay Area as soon as I get back!

On the last day of my trip to Seattle as my friends and I were driving along Broadway to find a Wells Fargo ATM...this place caught my eye. And I didn't even yelp it first!

Mocha?
Chocolate Martini?
Cafe? Bar?!
In one sentence?

EH?!

"LET's GO! NOW!"

:::AMBIANCE:::
Step in...ahhh...*drool*...There's a whole display of truffles, truffles, truffles, gorgeous decadent cakes, and shelves adorned with their specialty chocolates and gifts.

The entire mood is incredibly romantic. The place is dimly lit with candles illuminating each table. there's a variety of places to sit -- private booths with super high backings, tables galore, and the bar area (which is secluded in another room).

Our waitress gives us a private booth.

The music in the background was soft, classy, and totally didn't disturb our peace (as some people have complained about).

:::SERVICE:::
Such a sweet, cute waitress! I kinda feel bad because I asked her a whole lot of questions about the place and options, and though she wasn't quite sure about some of the answers, was still very charming and smiley. I love smiley people =). She checked on us continuously.

::DRINKS::

My two buddies opted for the hot cocoas:
- Dr. Sloan, $3.25 (made with a dark chocolate)
- Mocha, $3.75
Both were about 12 oz. in size, and comes with 2 little white chocolate covered cocoa beans. (Love the addition). Very rich and delicious! The mocha isn't as frothy as I normally prefer it and no latte art, but..that's not their specialty here =P. It's more about the chocolate!

As for myself, being the alchy of the group, I opted for the Chocolate Covered Cherry Martini (According to our waitress, it's one of the top 2 most popular drinks and was one of her favorites) for $10.

One sip...closed my eyes...and for that instant moment...I seriously died and went to heaven.

Then came back alive again to linger the beauty that graced my tongue: chocolate truffle sauce + chambord + disarrano + black cherry vodka dusted with cocoa powder on the lips of the chilled martini glass and a maraschino cherry to top off that seductive goodness.

Hands down best dessert drink I've ever had. EVER!!! Perfectly concocted.

I want to come back and try their most popular drink, the Sea Salt Caramel Martini, but alas I'm leaving Seattle tomorrow =(. Booooooo.

OH! And they give you their specialty peppermint truffle to enjoy with your check...which is soooooooooooo yummy!

If I lived in Seattle, I would totally have my next birthday here. And if a guy ever took me somewhere remotely like this on a date, hot damn...major major props!

The newest revision to their menu brings a much more solid set of options. The toast with cherry chutney and Beecher's cheese is, despite how it sounds, unfuckingbelievable.

While the draws are obviously the deserts and the chocolate, don't underestimate the ability of the bartenders here to make you a stiff, well-crafted drink.

If you reset your expectations to Capitol Hill service, you're going to actually be surprised by Dilettante in a good way. You don't get the same cold stare you get at most of the restaurants here. A few of the servers may even smile!

If I'm feeling drinks and/or desert over coffee, I'm heading here over B&O to satisfy my sweet tooth on the hill.

Dilettante is known for its decedent deserts and tasty chocolate bits. Often overlooked in reviews is the exceptional bar tucked away in the back of this delightful Broadway establishment. Venture past the cake display case and you'll be surrounded by dark wood, warm colors, cozy counter height tables and a wide bar. What really stands out is Donald, the guy behind the bar Tuesday-Saturday. He greets you when you walk in, gets your name, and never, ever forgets it. When it comes to service, he is the best bartender in Seattle. The chocolate martini's are dangerously delicious. And they have quality wines on happy hour that you won't find in most places.

Come for the chocolate, stay for the drinks and come back because of the outstanding service. Be warned, if you have more than one chocolate martini bring a designated driver or make sure you can stroll home from here. Yum!

The closing of the old Dilettante location was a tragedy.  The obliteration of character from the Broadway strip came to a head for me when Dilettante closed. I was so attached to the blood red walls, the gilt trimmed mirrors and the large windows.
After being suspicious of the new location I finally decided to give it a try.  After all, they kept their signature look and it IS just a few blocks from the old spot. The fact is, Dilettante makes damn fine coffee and features some of the best desserts in Seattle.
You can't go wrong whatever you order, but I come here specifically for their bread pudding topped in fresh whipped cream. The cakes are always perfect as well. And many of my Chicago friends receive a box of champagne truffles when I go home!
So, although I mourn the loss of the old location, the new Dilettante has made some improvements. A more efficient, upscale layout and MUCH better service. I wish I knew the name of the darling girl who waited on us, but she was the best waitress I've ever had in the 5 years I've been frequenting the joint.
Capital Hill's heyday is officially over, but Dilettante brings back a bit of what was good about it.

A chocolate lovers dream!! Since they've moved to their new location, they've added small bites and chocolate cocktails to the menu. I first tried the Ephemere Martini which is the classic chocolate martini. The second was the Sea Salt Caramel. I love trying food/drinks with sea salt and this was a WIN in my book. It's mixed with the Ephemere truffle sauce, caramel sauce, vodka & rimmed with Baileys, cocoa & sea salt.

For dessert I picked at the Tiramisu, Strawberry Chantilly, Chocolate Rendezvous & the Ephemere Mousse au Chocolate. The strawberry Chantilly and Chocolate Rendezvous were fantastic, but hands down what would make me come back for more is the Ephemere Mouse Au Chocolate. It's a very light chocolate mouse that's not too rich. Heaven on my taste buds! The Tiramisu on the other hand I could do without. Very dry, it was like eating a sponge.

Great ambiance and very helpful wait staff. This is a great place to take a date for dessert and good conversation after a dinner/movie.

3 stars my ass!  This place is great!  I so give this place a 5 to help up the rating :)  Went here for Halloween evening for a quick dessert and it was so good!  Have been to the older location so many times and man did it clean up nice!  The new location is gorgeous, very cool corner spot with tons of windows and great seating.  Service is amazing... had a lovely mime as our waitor and pippi long stocking as our host.  TOO cute.  Ordered the Mocha Praline Cake which is insane...  and the mint brownie sundae.  Their hot chocolates are top notch.  Really... why is this place a 3? come on...

There were 2 big things that bugged me about the food and ambiance of Dilettante:

- The appetizer was supbar: my friend and I could have made the goat cheese with pear and honey sauce at home. For $5. And get about 60 servings. The appetizer wasn't worth the $9, and she was expecting a bit more quality.

- THE MUSIC WAS REALLY F-IN' LOUD AND WE COULDN'T HEAR EACH OTHER TALK. But then they'd turn it down AND THEN TURN IT BACK UP.

This was yesterday, but other than that, the borscht was pretty good even though, I couldn't really tell I got garlic bread, because it looked like the same bread my friend got for her goat cheese and pear appetizer.

It's a really awesome place, but I think they've got a few things to improve on (seeing other 2 star reviews as well).

On a post-SIFF prowl with some friends, we decided to stop in for a drink. Since I hadn't had dinner yet, I also wanted something more substantial before hitting the sugar. This is really a dessert and drinks place and the options for real food are pretty slim. Half a menu page for food, three and a half pages of chocolate decadence options.

I settled on a bowl of borscht, which filled the void. The chunks of grilled steak on top of the beets and cabbage were pretty tasty. But I have to say, borscht is not the best combo with a chocolate martini.  Then again, one doesn't come here for the beets. Still, they could have sequenced my order better.

The martini itself was pretty good. Service was average. Our server mixed up the order and gave me the wrong martini, but it was still cool, delightful and highly drinkable.  I imagine this is what chocolate kool-aid would taste like if they made it.  Even the surroundings are sort of dark and chocolaty. The windows were wide open, which was fabulous on the Seattle summer evening. I won't be in a rush to return, but it's nice to know this is in the neighborhood if I get a craving for chocolate.

Wow, lots of negative reviews for delicious chocolate??  Can this be??

I had been to the old location a few times and learned what rocks and what doesn't - so I got a leg up on some of these first timers.

Say it with me, kids: "Coup Dilettante."  This is the only thing I get here.  Ice cream, Ephemere sauce, waffle cookie and a chocolate truffle on the side.

Can you say, "Yum?"  Turn those "Ums" to "Yums" and get yer bum down here.

Will you be willing to have a secret rendezvous with Dilettante Mocha Café?  What if your favorite bakery never finds out?  What if you were tempted by Dilettante's Chocolate Rendezvous cake - three layers of chocolate genoise and chocolate buttercream frosting?

Yes?  Well, I don't blame you.  All that chocolate just changes people.  It turns spouses against each other.   Or you could go with the traditional defense: I don't know what I was thinking!

But whatever the reason, B&O can rest easy because one bite of the Chocolate Rendezvous, I came running back.  Don't get me wrong, Dilettante was good, but not "leaving your spouse of five years for the cheap mistress" good.   Funny cause it actually wasn't that cheap.  =\

Besides the fact that the cake didn't rock my world, they also forgot to put in my beverage order -- I wanted to wash down my chocolate cake with more chocolate since I ordered a hot chocolate with white cocoa.

Alas, both the cake and the service were mediocre.

This place is a even keel standard late night stop. The cheesecakes are heavy and filling and chocolates quite tasty.

But skip all that and get the Tiramasu since after eating there multiple times on several different occasions I really don't find anything spectacular about the deserts.

But then again... I'm a pie kind of guy.

Let me start off by saying that I've only tried the Capitol Hill Dilettante at its current location.

I'm honestly a bit surprised to see all of the negative reviews as I had a very pleasant experience at Dilettante. I think the factor that made my experience much better was that I shared an ice cream sundae with someone as opposed to having a slice of cake. My friend and I both ordered our own separate drinks and split the sundae, and everything was really, really great. The drinks were delicious (I loved all of the choices), and the sundae was fantastic (try the salted-caramel ice cream!).

It was really late on a Monday evening when I went, and there were only about 2 other tables at the time, so the service was just fine. I never felt ignored or constantly bothered - it was just fine. The total bill for all 3 items was about $15 before tip, and it was worth every penny, I'd say.

If I ever try a slice of cake, that may change my review. But as of right now, this place is awesome.

Getting home from El Groucho (see review below), my companion says she's still hungry.  In hindsight, I now think what she meant was that she wanted more dessert because in her list of actionable items to satiate herself, chocolate cake was on every entry.

Dilettante came through.  It was some sort of multilayered chocolate goodness of her choosing.  The slice we split between us was more than enough.  It was a bit pornographic though, eating this thing- slicing off chucks, licking the folks clean & rolling our eyes as the napalmic blasts of chocolate sugary goodness was absorbed into our bloodstream.
It was decadent, yummy fucking goodness!

I'll admit to being a cake snob, but my boyfriend definitely is not.  When he thinks your cake is gross, then it's either full of glass shards or shockingly bad.  This was the case with Dilettante's German chocolate cake yesterday.

We also had cocktails.  My sea-salt caramel martini was admittedly delicious, but not exactly relevatory.  My companion's "maker's manhattan on the rocks" was literally a pint glass full of bourbon with a cherry in it.  While it may have been the best value ounce for ounce out of the items we ordered, it was definitely still a shitty cocktail.

I forgot to write an update!!

I hadn't been to the new location of Dilettante on Broadway since recently. However, since finally going there I've actually been 3 times! The new spot is so much cuter and instead of being dark in a creepy way, it's dark in a romantic way. The food is good, the desserts and drinks are better. This new location is much nicer!

Checked this place out for brunch before going to the farmers' market.

Overall -- no reason to pick this as a brunch place over the much better choices a few blocks down Broadway.  The menu is limited. The portions are stingy. I ordered the baked egg (was curious). It was good, but small! Came in a little ramekin without fruit or toast. Upon request, the waitress gave me some potatoes on the side. If I hadn't asked...would I have just gotten the ramekin? If you're curious - $6.  So, I was hungrily looking at my friend's plate. She got the safe choice -- fried eggs ($8? $9?). With eggs, she got toast and fruit and bacon and... so there are bigger entrees. I guess those extra few dollars justify giving customers extravances like toast.

Service was slow and required a lot of requests (butter for toast, salt & pepper for eggs, replacement for wrong drink, etc.). We got tired of asking the waitress and started pillaging other (empty) tables.

Clearly, they are offering brunch half-heartedly. Their real focus is desserts and drinks. Oh, speaking of drinks. Herbal tea was almost $5, so I got their mimosa special...$1. And they let me substitute the OJ for cranberry. So...$5 tea or $1 mimosa? ;-)

Very nice place to get some chocolate cakes or coffee.

A little expensive, but nice.

The only bad part  it's that it's in one of these new buildings whose commercial spaces kind of look all the same. Nice atmosphere though. It has some booths too.

I....am just so disappointed. *Sniff sniff* I had a very bad day, actually my whole week has been not going well. We stopped in here for some euphoric chocolate splendor and my day got worse. The waitress pressured me into a hot chocolate with brandy in it (highly recommended she says), I agreed because she said it was just a little. It ended up being more brandy than chocolate.

We tried to get her attention for about ten minutes, when we finally did it took another ten to get a normal hot chocolate. There were four other people in the whole place, so I don't understand why it took so long. When the NORMAL hot chocolate arrived it was almost cold.

We also ordered a fruit crisp with vanilla ice cream on top. I couldn't believe my taste buds, because neither the crisp or ice cream had even an ounce of flavor. It looked like fruit crisp and ice cream, smelled like fruit crisp and ice cream, but tasted more like the nothingness of the 'Never Ending Story.' How is this possible?

Not an ounce of our experience was even the least bit fulfilling, so we wanted some chocolates from the case (maybe that would make it better). But the waitress decided we were done and gave us our check.

It took us another ten minutes to get her attention to say we were not done and wanted some chocolates out of the case.

The chocolates were good. *Sigh*

If I could eat one brand of chocolate for the rest of my life it would be from Dilettante. I loved their previous location on Broadway and was excited to hear about their new store on the north end of Broadway. Needless to say I was somewhat disappointed when I visited it. The staff needs a lot of improvement. This particular location appeared understaffed and on busy nights, it seemed much worse.

The product is definitely good, but in my book order it to go and take it home to enjoy with a great bottle of wine!

I can't believe all the negative reviews on this place.  Yes, its a bit pricey but where else can you get delicious chocolate speciality drinks.  My friends loved their chocolate martinis and I loved my hot chocolate with soy milk.  Also, their desserts are great.  I wouldn't go here to eat their normal food, just the specialities.  And its a bit pricey but if your going for a special drink and dessert its not that bad.  Plus, its hard to find a place that has such good dessert that is still open after 11:00pm on a weekend.  The chocolate drinks here are amazing.

I've given this place plenty o' chances to impress me - after moving to this location(which looks cool), I thought I'd give it another shot, (hey, was B&O Espresso was closed?)  Nope, still mediocre - how do they stay around?  They over-expanded locations a few years back, too.  But dude, your $8.00 piece-a-cake is not that great.  It was good, but not worth the price.  I will give that the Tiramasu is pretty good if you do check it out.  But there are many great desserts to be found in the city, so these guys need to step it up a notch.  The staff needs to get it together, too - yikes!

I loved this place. LOVED IT. And I was excited by their new location. But things seem to have gone downhill since they moved.

First of all, it's much more cramped. The tables are closer together, and there's a lot fewer of them. The ceiling might be lower, too, because it seems terribly loud on Friday and Saturday nights.

Even nights when it isn't so busy, the service is lacking. You can stand around for 10 minutes before anyone even notices you, and that's on slow nights. When it's busier, you can wait half an hour or more for a table. Even worse, last time I went, one of our water glasses still had lipstick on the rim. We asked the waiter for a new one, but it never materialized.

The quality of the desserts seems to have diminished, as well. Their chocolate cheesecake used to be one of my favorite things in the world. Now the cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory is better. Last time I went, I decided to order the sorbet instead. What I was served wasn't sorbet, it was sherbet. And there's a difference.

I do like the atmosphere of the new location, when it's not so busy. The new bar area is a cute touch, but I think I would get claustrophobic in there.

Overall, it's a nice place to visit on a weekday night. But it's probably not worth the high cost.

OMG!!!! For women this is the ABSOLUTE heaven!!!!! I went there on a little after dinner date. It was amazing I had a Ephemere Chocolate martini (This is the signature martini) made with the dillettante Truffle Sauce. My date ordered a great Mint Kiss chocolate martini that had the Truffle sauce, MInt liquour, Vodka and cream. Then we top it off with a tiramisu!!!! It was UNBELIEVEABLE!!! Im here for life!!! But back to the martini's the bartender was sooo great!! He kept giving us samples of all the Chocolate martini's on the menu!!!  We had samples of a ginger chocolate Martini, Sea salt carmel Chocolate, Velenca martini.  They offer plethera of unique drinks, entree's, and desserts!!! Its a must for the chocolate lover. Not only great service, but the atmosphere even makes you crave the chocolate that much more with beautiful black chandaliers, and rich chocolate walls.  Drinks and food can run on the pricery side, but for how unique and the quality it's there!!!

Oh Dilettante, I have already written a review about you, and now I'm doing it again because I am so damn in love. The service is great here. The staff is friendly and adorable and the cakes are to die for. Mocha Praline? Heaven. Mousse? Heaven. CARROT CAKE? Gingery and delicious. And on and on and on......( I wouldnt suggest getting the Black Forest, or Cappuccino Cake, they are sub par).

This is such a great date spot. I go often, but I went last night, I just forgot how cute it is to take someone here and share a sundae in a cozy booth in the dim candle lit atmosphere. Also, chocolate martinis are very impressive, especially if the person you are with has never had one.
Dilettante, once again, I am impressed as ever.

I'm rounding up from what should be a 3.5 star review.

I guess they've managed to sort out their service since opening, because everything went smoothly and quickly while we were there.  The drinks, while admittedly expensive, were tasty and generously alcoholic.  My chocolate cake, while not transcendent, was definitely tasty.  I did not have any of their savory things.

Yes, it IS a chocolate themed restaurant.  Most of the things on the menu have chocolate in them, though not all of them.  DO NOT BE ALARMED.

This is an ideal place to come for a post-dinner dessert and drinks.

A little pricy, but if your going for dessert, it is hard to beat. I saw some complaints about the portion sizes for the meals, and true, they are small, but they kind of have to be so that you have room for the fantastic desserts. Because really, why on earth would you even go here if you weren't planning on eating chocolate in some form? I recommend the cheesecake, chocolate pudding, or the spirited ice-cream sundays. Delicious.

wow this place was horrid.  i have been going to dilettante's for years...i mean years!  they've always had the worst service...ever.  how long does it take to slice a piece of cake anyways...45 minutes?  their desserts, especially the tirimisu and lemon bars are good and some of the cakes are as well but overall food was mediocre.

having moved to the new location, i thought maybe their dining offering/service would have improved.  i was wrong.  we showed up last nite and they wedged us between two other tables...all three tables were now basically blocking and trapping each other...God forbid there was a fire or crazy gunman in there...nowhere to escape!  the waiter didn't show up for 15 minutes.  the hostess was not helpful and seemed clueless...

ok stop... i really am a nice sweet person...this review is for real!  i'm an original seatttleite and have been with these people forever.  i just happen to meet new people who insist on going here!  otherwise i would go to the fairmont hotel on university and order their black and white chocolate souffle!

don't have the heart to give them one star

Lots of chocolate here - but our experience was just average. Came in to fill a chocolate cake and milk craving - but our cake was really dry.  We ordered the Chocolate Rendevous and the Mocha Icecream sundae - both were OK not spectacular.  The location and ambiance is fabulous and would be a great option to meet for coffee and maybe truffles after dinner on the hill.  I'll probably be back to update this review - as there were a ton chocolate martini's that I would love to try...

Snow, snow, and more snow. So we walked around for a while and decided to get a mocha at the new (moved) Dilettante location on Capitol Hill. The person waiting on us took forever to take our order; she apologized in a tone of voice that said, "I could say I'm sorry but I'm not." We only ordered mochas for that moment and might have ordered something else a bit later . . . BUT a bit later, she began telling some people behind us that she just "couldn't understand why people didn't know this was a restaurant and not a coffee shop" and that she had not planned on "working at a coffee shop or a candy shop" but had wanted to work at a "restaurant" . . . and she asked the gentlemen (who maybe received better attention because they ordered $10 martinis and a small appetizer plate) to tell everyone they know that this is a restaurant . . . so people wouldn't think this is just some sit-down coffee shop . . . and she gave several looks in our direction as though we were symbols of her discontent . . . coffee drinkers who don't order martinis or food.  The NERVE of people like us; I guess.

Hmm. Well, we were drinking mochas and perusing the books we had just bought down the street. We'd only been there around 15 minutes after our mochas got there, so it's not as though we had been there for hours, tapping into the internet, and expecting water refills . . . passive-aggressiveness doesn't go over well with me. So we decided to leave and will likely never return. I slighted her on the tip . . .

I'm not sorry that you had to come into work in the snow at an upscale dessert / coffee cafe and had to deal with the likes of us!

Apparently, she was one of the managers (or assistant managers). If they hire people who are lacking customer service skills to this extent, then I don't need to spend my money there--whether it's 3.50 for a mocha or $10 for a martini or $50 for a meal and dessert with my husband. I can go elsewhere.

I've been to this place a couple of time with friends and never once I was impressed. Once I ordered the bread pudding that the menu said "served with bourbon/whiskey sauce" but when it came out an hour later (my friends almost finished their dessert by the time my pudding came out) the pudding was tasteless and dry and without the sauce. I asked the server, he said they didn't have the sauce. I showed him the menu and he offered me honey. He should have offered the dessert for free!

I just went there again a couple of nights ago to their new place. I ordered mocha silk. It was basically a dry dry dry chocolate cake. The dark hot chocolate I ordered tasted plasticky. The service was still bad. The only good thing about the place was the atmosphere (it was such a nice place to hang out). If you want good dessert though, go to Kingfish Cafe. They have a decadent, moist chocolate cake and bread pudding.
