So many memories in your parking lots throughout my lifetime.  I don't care what people say, I love you!

This place isn't a place I would recommend to someone who hasn't been here before, especially out of towner's who hear great things about this place.  This is not the best burger place in Seattle, so if you're looking for that, look elsewhere.

If you are however open to the occasional grease dripping, lettuce falling, tartar/relish sloppy burger with flimsy/mushy fries than you should come here.  There aren't any special orders, and NO they will not make any exceptions, not even for allergies, so you shouldn't come here if you fall into this category.

My order every time without fail: 1 deluxe, 1 cheeseburger, 2 fries and 2 tartars please and thank you.  Yes, I eat like a growing boy --read your mind huh?

I'm pretty sure I've only eaten here a handful of times sober, but that is because I crave bad things when inebriated, otherwise I eat pretty healthy, NOTE: nothing on the menu here is healthy.

For those of you who are complaining about the charge for ketchup and other condiments.  Really?? You know why you never see others charge for this? It's because it's always just built into everything else, so no matter what you're paying that measly .05 cents in some way or another.  Pfft. Sound it out.

If you want a greasy, fast food quality meal then this is your place. I stop in here every once in a while just for the novelty of having one of their burgers. I will say the staff here is very fast and always do a great job. I have no problem with them, the building (very spacious with lots of seating), the location, or anything else like that. I am just not a fan of their food.

Sometimes all you want (I said need and immediately backspaced it) is some nasty junk food and this place fills that need as well as any other similar location. The main difference here is the menu is very limited and they do not do any substitutions of any kind. What's on the menu is what you get. Period.

WOW!!  While visiting Seattle we've heard so much about Dick's that we had to visit.  We must have visited your worst location, Queen Anne. Maybe we should have read Yelp first:
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...
We're not In-n-Out snobs, but we do know quality and cleanliness. This place was filthy, greasy tables, trash cans over-flowing, floors and tables just filthy.  Your burgers are pre-made, cold, no flavor, all around blah.  Just like the reviewers post, "better to eat here when drunk".  I guess Dick's has washed their hands on this location?  Are your locations a franchise, can't believe any "family owned" company would allow such mis-management.
POOR, POOR POOR.    This is not hamburgers folks, this is not quality, this place is dirty, filthy, poor excuse of a cheese burger. Fries are weak, greasy, limp potato sticks.  Seems past reviewers don't get out much or leave the city? 5 guys is a little better, But In-N-Out is hard to beat.   Charge a little more and try to make a better burger, even Mc D's is a little better then this dog food.  Dick's is crap

Quality wasn't as consistent as other Dick's.

Too many hobos outside.  Saw a hobo whip-out his dick to piss on himself, in the middle of the road, outside of Dick's.

Parking can be tough to find, during weekend "recovery period."

This location should work harder to meet Dick's fair standards.

I'm from California so I couldn't help but compare this place to In-n-Out... I expected this place to be better, but I was pretty disappointed. I got a burger which was nothing special... It wasn't unique, and if I ate it blind folded, I probably would have though it was from McDonalds. This place also charges $0.05 for condiments...
If you're going to eat here, come with cash ready because this place is cash only.

Life changing burger?  Give me a break.

Cheap mystery meat squished between a wonder bread-like bun that's coated with enough relish/tartar sauce to mask a turd is not life changing. Eating it though could definitely require some underwear changing.

Even at $2.70 these burgers are a bit of a rip off.  Spend a few bucks more and go somewhere, anywhere, else.

Not life changing... what a shame..

Rude service and messed up our order (left out an order of fries.) I mean, with the size of the menu (small), how can you mess up an order for two people?

This place is definitely not worth taking "out of towners" or making any special trip for their burgers. But then again, it's cheap and ready made.

It is what it is.  Dicks always taste better after a few drinks, I always say, right?  Cash only is cool, given the price.  And the simple menu is just fine, but it would be nice if I could just get a burger plain so I can convince my wife to try this place again!

    Guess what?

    I still hate Dick's.

I didn't bother even THINKING about ordering a burger, since all of these establishments are evil and won't let me customize my burger. Sorry, wont eat your heat-lamped warmed soggy burger covered in nasty pickle mayo or ketchup.

Won't think about ordering their flaccid, soggy cold fries that shame potatoes the world over...

I just wanted a hot fudge sundae. How can you fuck up ice cream? I order a chocolate chip mint scoop with fudge...I got bubblegum with fudge. Nasty...I was so soul crushed I didn't even want to bother correcting the pimply teen who got my order wrong.

$1.50 wasted and I won't bother with anything ever at Dick's ever again. Fool me once...right?

    Pros:
Free and easy parking at this location
    Friendly, quick service
    Simple Menu
Lettuce and Tartar sauce on the "Special" burger = Delicious
    Homemade Fries

    Cons:
    None!

The tartar, fresh lettuce on their "Special" and "Deluxe" burgers is what sets this place apart from other burger places. The bun size, patty size, and ratio of patty size to bun size of the Dick's burgers are comparable in size to a cheeseburger at McDonald's and may be considered small to some but i think they are perfect and are quite tasty.

Tourists may not "get" this burger place, but the fact that it's a local institution and provides decent benefits to its employees (scholarship reimbursement, wages above minimum wage) also sets this place apart.

This was the very first Dick's I had ever experienced. When I used to live across the water over in North Kitsap a group of friends and I would always catch the ferry to head to Seattle and go to Hot Import Nights or sporting events, and the one place that we would always hit up would be Dick's. It was an absolute must for us since we didn't have anything like this in Poulsbo. This place was the beginning for my love of Dick's. Back then though I remember the cheese burgers being 50 cents and the deluxe being something like $1.75. It's still a great deal now.

I have had a lot of great memories visiting here. Sometimes I know it's not the cleanest place and every once in a while there is a homeless person sleeping on one of the booths, but that's what gives it a true Seattle charm.

Alright, so I have to be honest in that I don't even like hamburgers. Yeah, I know that's weird... but I try to be a normal person at least once a year. In 2010 I had an In-N-Out burger, this year it was Dick's.

The whole vibe of the place is awesome: divey, cheap, delicious. Exactly the kind of place I wish existed in Boulder. There was an almost-hilariously diverse group of people at Dick's around 9 on a Saturday night. Suits, hippies, college kids, and high schoolers dressed up for some kind of formal.

My basic hamburger with ketchup, mustard, and onions was surprisingly tasty, but probably comprable to McDonald's in quality. Thin patty, cooked to death, and piping hot... it was exactly what I wanted at 11pm on a Saturday. I was completely blown away with how delicious the fries were (though they were wicked greasy) and the chocolate shake I had as my beverage was the perfect accompaniment.

Three stars for the food, +1 star for the atmosphere and my friends tolerating almost 45 minute of constant Dick('s) jokes.

Back when I was a California transplant studying up in Seattle, people would rave on and on about another California staple, In-N-Out Burger. Some dormmates would even drive 10 hours south to Redding, just to grab a burger!

Those guys are idiots (Five Guys is better), but seeing how Dick's is their alternative, I can see why they'd make the pilgrimage. The food here is greasy like no other, but the cheap price point allowed me to overlook their charred, salty hamburgers and give this place a second star.

I am a lifelong eater of Dick's. I understand that there are basically two kinds of people in Seattle: those that do not care for Dick's and those that love Dick's. Well I love Dick's. And no, I do not have to be drunk to crave Dick's, though a certain level of inebriation does increase my desire.

Why is my Dick's better than your Dick's? Best to enjoy Dick's inside, I say. Granted there certainly are weather patterns that blow through once in a while that will accommodate the outdoor enjoyment of Dick's, but I think most of the time, my Dick's belongs inside, all cozy and warm.

My wish for the human race is that everyone can put a big smile on their face and eat Dick's.

Arcade classics, like Burgertime and tabletop Ms. Pac-Man.  Wrestlemania.  Wham-O's Slip 'n Slide.  Dick's.  These are things that get me reminiscing about days gone by and leave me questioning why some things - good things - have to change.

A drive-in to Dick's is like taking a road trip back in time with Marty McFly, minus the DeLorean and Parkinson's.  Ice cream floats.  Wax cups (why don't places use these anymore?).  Generic, old-school hamburger buns sans sesame seeds, whole grains, or nutritional value and coated with a slight sheen of greasy film as though they had been meticulously beautified with Soul-Glo.  This is what I want when I'm stumbling in after last call at Hula Hula bar -- not some gourmet "burger" atop fancy brioche bread with sprouts.

Yes they nickel and dime you here for condiments, but it's $0.05 and the burgers are cheap to begin with.  And being a California native who's lived on the east coast for awhile now, I must apologize on behalf of my whiny brethren.  No shit it's not In-n-Out.  No one in Seattle likely asked you how it compares to In-n-Out.  No one cares.  Dick's is a local institution in its own right and that's why I like it.; not because some twat wants it to taste just like some other place.

That said, you'd have to be fucking nuts to eat here sober.

Reminds me of a crappy version of In-N-Out--cheap burgers/fries/shakes and staffed with high school kids, but rather unfriendly ones.

I tried to order a Dick's Special (burger w/ mayonnaise, lettuce, chopped pickles) without pickles but they wouldn't budge on policy. Some mumbo jumbo about no special ordering to provide quick service for everyone. I opted for a cheeseburger. But ended up not eating it. So gross. Imagine some food product you're disgusted by, sight and smell, that's what pickles, mustard, and ketchup is to me. Thankfully, Dick's composts just about everything except for foil wrappers!

Other than my complaints, not bad for those who aren't picky and need a cheap meal under $5.

I always order one or two Deluxe burgers (they don't come with mustard, my least favorite condiment) and a strawberry shake. I avoid the fries because they always taste soggy to me and really if a fry is going to be as thin as the ones served here I'd much rather have a crispy thin cut fry.

The assembly line style of burger construction isn't a problem, but the quality of the ingredients (excluding the beef) is what keeps Dick's down. This would be a 4-star review if I was more satisfied with the white bread buns and the so-so iceberg lettuce.

Worse.  Food.  Ever!!!!  Everything was sketchy and disgusting.  I dunno how people like this "food."  I understand it's cheap but by no means should your stomach suffer for it.

The cashier didn't even greet us with a smile and she looked like she hated her job and being there.  I feel you girl!  I would too if I worked there!

My bf ordered the deluxe burger.  It was really just a burger with cheese.  What was so deluxe about it?!  Apparently nothing.  He hated it.  I ordered the special burger.  It was just a burger with lettuce and some kind of sauce.  Nothing special about it, that's for sure.  We also ordered fries and they were just as nasty as the burgers.

I understand this place is called "fast food" but they take it so literal here!  I was expecting to wait at least 5 minutes for my food.  But the food was put on our tray as fast as I could give her my money!  I turned to my bf and gave him the stank face and was like "wtf?!  that was fast!"  I mean come on, I've waited longer for food at McDonald's!!!!  I've also had better food at McDonald's!!

If you ever come to Seattle on a vacation and see a Dick's Drive-In, RUN the other way!  Not worth your time and money!

Slim pickings in the wee hours!.

So I stumbled out of a concert recently, feeling rather peckish. As I went to my hotel, I came across Dicks. And then I saw the restaurant! Ahahaha. But seriously.

Reading the reviews they are an institution in Seattle apparently, but I feel its an institution of mediocrity. The server looked bored and annoyed he was at work, mind you it was around 2am, but still, if you are going to be open.... I hate mayonnaise and was flummoxed that my burger Had to have it, no substitutions. The burger was average, nothing great, nothing really bad, although the veggies on it did not look inspiring at all. The fries were good, and so was the chocolate shake. Would only return if it was super late and nothing else was open, again.

Why are people comparing to In N Out?? No comparison at all.

I'm sorry Seattleites but, this was not all I thought it would be. From all the rave reviews, maybe I just got my hopes up?
I was starving and have been wanting to try this place since I've read how great it is. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad but it's definitely not that great either.
The fries were "ok" but I got mostly "crunchies". The burger was meh. The shake was "ok". However, when I saw the cashier reach in a freezer and pull out a pre-made shake and mix it a bit with the machine, I thought, "hmmm...oook". But in the end, it was fast and my hunger is taken care of even though I'm not completely satisfied.
I will go back to eat here but only when I'm drunk, I don't think it's safe for me to cook because I'm so drunk, and nothing else is open.

I was told by a friend that if I did nothing else on my Seattle trip, I must visit Dick's Drive-In for great post-drunkenness food. Well, I wasn't drunk but I was hungry and didn't feel like eating at a sit down because it was pretty late, so I headed over to Dick's. There was a line but it moves pretty fast because most of their burgers are pre-packaged and ready for the crowds. Had to pay for ketchup which is like UGH for a severe ketchup addict like me, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Fries were delicious; greasy and fresh hand-cut shoestrings. Burger was better then McDonald's/BK/Wendy's quality and definitely hit the spot as far as a quick burger goes. (and cheaper for a whole meal too! Came to under $6 for fries, burger & small drink)

So I'm gonna go ahead and second my friend's suggestion:

If you do nothing else on your trip to Seattle, eat at Dick's at least once.

Here's the thing people don't seem to get: dick's is what it is. Which is fast, cheap, and still open when the bars let out at 1 AM. I just moved here from southern California and I will say the only thing this place and in n out have in common is a small menu(burgers, shakes, fries) and an old fashioned 50s vibe. Dick's does not cater to your every special request- in fact, the only special orders they do are a deluxe without cheese, fries without salt, and burgers cut in half. They are cash only and yes, condiments are 5 cents each. This is a heads up for every first timer. There are no exceptions. But, like I said, it is what it is. If you don't like mayonnaise get a cheeseburger or hamburger, which have ketchup and a small amount of mustard. Most people get a deluxe, which is 2 patties with American cheese, lettuce, and mayonnaise mixed with sweet relish(the word pickle on the menu is deceiving). If you don't like mayonnaise, ketchup or mustard, go to McDonald's and stop complaining. The burgers are not made to order- take it or leave it. They have all been cooked within a short amount of time and are thrown out if they are sitting there without being sold. The reason for this is INSTANT SERVICE- you get your food almost right after ordering. The fries are delicious when they are fresh(almost always), so don't be afraid to complain when they are not. Just let them know and you get get fresh ones, guaranteed. They are hand cut and fried in pure sunflower oil, seasoned only with salt. You get what you pay for here, and yes it is worth a stop for the fries alone and of course for its status as a seattle icon, but keep your expectations reasonable!

Dick's is an all time Seattle classic and should be on any burger lover's 'must do' list when they visit the Emerald City.

When it comes to a Dick's burger, I am a fan of their perfect no-frills interpretation on the cheeseburger. Also, I love that their drink sizes aren't ridiculous (i.e. a bucket of soda) and the perfect size for a normal meal. This location is usually busy, but the staff does a pretty darn good job of crowd-management, order taking/serving, and handling the occasional knucklehead that might stumble in.

This location has indoor seating which is nice when you get a hankering for a Dick's burger in the dead of Winter. There is also a pretty big parking lot here (They took over Blockbuster's half of the lot when they closed up shop).

Tips for first timers: (1) bring cash...they don't do cards here, (2) if you forget cash there is an ATM near the restroom, (3) this isn't a place for special orders...experience the Dick's menu as it is posted...you won't be sorry, (4) be ready to order when you get to the counter & try not to be the guy who holds up the line. Stick to those tips and you will look like a pro!

I will be a fan for many years to come.

Note: On the In--N-Out vs. Dick's comparison...if I had to choose one it would be Dick's hands down.

Dick's, how I crave thee. Let me count the ways.....

    Cheeseburger
    Chocolate Shake
    Fresh Cut Fries
    Another Cheeseburger

Holy shenanigans!!! I don't know what it is about Dick's, but they're delicious. This was our first meal while staying in Seattle and I thought that my friend was going to have to carry me to the car, I was so full! I hardly ever eat ground beef, but when I'm in Seattle this place always draws me in.

By their appearance, they look plain and uneventful, but when you take your first bite, your transport to a land where dogs speak, everyone wears toe socks and it rains chocolaty goodness.

The beef is good and fairly lean. The chocolate shakes are to die for....I'm drooling just thinking about them. I'm not a fresh cut fry girl, but these were good...actually crispy, not soggy!  So, if you're in the mood of some tasty, greasy food, then give Dick's a try.

After hearing good things about this place from a Seattle resident, I gave dicks a try. At first glance it looked good. A simple menu similar ti In-N-Out. (I had been told it was just as good as In-N-Out. I am not an In-N-Out fan but that is another story) However I am one who likes a good burger; but to get a good burger it has to be tried without add-ons covering up the taste!
So I went to the counter and attempted to order a burger without mayo, ketchup or mustard or whatever else slopped on it.
"Oh no sir, our burgers are served only as listed on the menu". I was told by the uncaring girl at the counter. "It is our way to speed up the service"
Speed up what? I was the only one in line and it was too much trouble not to add a condiment? Who the heck thought that policy up?
Obviously someone out of touch with their competition.
And / or someone who had a bad tasting burger meat to hide with un-needed condiments.
Well, with that type of attitude, a sale was lost.
I did try the fries and shake.
The fries were limp and greasy nd the shake was quite small and without any chocolate taste.
My advice to anyone tempted to try....Run away....Run away fast!

However if you like your burger to taste like add-ons (condiments), soggy greasy fries and tasteless shakes, have at it!

    I. Love. Dick's.

Getting a special and fries (or three specials and fries) is the best way to end a night of drunken debauchery.

    So deliciously evil.

Given, it's not healthy. Obviously. Nor is it made-to-order, gourmet, or complex. However, what they do, they do right.

Potatoes that they cut into fries right there.

    Milkshakes made with real ingredients.

    Burgers made with meat.

Dear god, it's junk food heaven.

Can I give no stars? We were in town visiting my brother and thought we'd
Grab a burger. We started to order and asked for no mustard and were told, "we pre-make them so no substitutions." my father tried to reason with them and they flat out refused. Fine, the moment she said they pre-make their burgers I was disgusted. How long have those burgers been sitting there and what are all those staff doing that they can't make a custom fresh burger?  Maybe it's an East coast/West coast thing but GROSS!

I'll be honest, I didn't eat there and instead went across the street for Mexican- a MUCH better choice.

It's not the best burger, nor the cheapest. But it's Dick's!  A sentimental and convenient favorite. Count on Dick's to be fast and consistent.  Shakes hit the spot.

Not as good as In n Out but better than McDonalds.

    Condiments cost 5 cents each

OK, so...I was sorely disapointed by Dicks.  Not because I hated it, not because I got sick, or anything like that.  My friend told me Dicks is better than In-n-Out so I had to try it.

They don't even hold a candle to the famous In-n-Out burger.  And no, I'm not saying this because I grew up with In-n-Out.  I didn't even taste the deliciousness that is the double double until I was probably 22 or so.

    Here's a break down.

    Freshest buns: In-n-Out
    Freshest meat: In-n-Out
    Crispiest lettuce: In-n-Out
    free-est condiments: In-n-Out
best fries: In-n-Out (they cut the potatoes in the store for goodness sake!)
Best hangover food: Dicks (this stuff is greasy, and it is awesome the morning after drinking!)

So, Dicks has its place in the world.  I would eat there again for sure.  But to say it's better than In-n-Out is just plain wrong.

Oh yeah, and WHO THE HELL CHARGES FOR CONDIMENTS?!?!?!

Just to put this on record: Dicks (is less than) In-N-Out (since there seems to be a need for comparison).

Actually, they're two different classes. Dick's is much more simple minded and simple built, while In-N-Out is more complex. You know what I mean.

But, for a fast-food splurge, this is always a good spot.
I know of a better one in WA, but I'll leave that to that review.

    Tartar sauce makes a difference.
They charge for all sauces. :/
Also, their "great" customer service is much due to their "great" high school/early college employees. :// haha

But still, I'll be down to go here with homies.

I really don't like how so many Seattleites compare Dick's to In-N-Out, because there are nothing in common between the two.

Since this is a review for Dick's, I'll stick to it (that's what she said).

This place definitely hits the spot when you're craving for a late-night greasy fix or when you just want something shoved in your mouth (again, that's what she said) when you're drunk.

However, it seems to have a different taste when you go for a burger-for-lunch in the mid day - just a bit too plain. I do not appreciate the fact that I have to pay for the condiments. I'm asian. I need my seasoning/sauces/condiments to complete my meal.

It would also help if they kept up with cleaning the tables and bathroom. I like my burgers greasy, not my table and seats.

Dick's is the place where the cool hang out. Well, not this Dick's, the one on Broadway. This Dick's is the place where the cool can sit down. It's the only Dick's location currently with seating which makes it my favorite to go. Sometimes it fun to stand up outside eating. When it's rainy and cold in December I prefer the warm of Queen Anne's indoors.

The complaints in some of these reviews, to me, are what make Dick's so awesome! Oh boo hoo! They only take cash. You have to pay for onions. What a bunch of whiners! What are you expecting, it's Dick's! You always know what you're going to get here. An affordable delicious, tasty quick burger, fresh cut fries with the right amount of salt and sogginess, crushed ice in the soda, a shake blended to order, your $20 bill held up to the light, all in a fast friendly way. What more do you want?!?

Fun Fact: There used to be a Dick's in Bellevue. They sold it in the 70s to build this place. Suck it eastside!

I am not sure why people in Seattle rave about this place! I've had better burgers from Five Guys and Blue Moon Burgers.  My recent experience was not a good one:

-the regular burger / cheeseburger comes with mustard and ketchup.  I am allergic to tomatoes, and they WILL NOT customize your burger :(

-the deluxe comes with mayo and they WILL NOT sale you one without it.

-the location on Queen Ann Ave is swarming with homeless panhandlers that harass you

-the service I received was apathetic and rude!

if you do not care about not being able to customize your order, then you will enjoy the cheap food.  I however will be saving my $5 and going elsewhere...

    p.s. IT IS CASH ONLY!!!
