I love Dicks! (obligatory) haha
Jokes aside, this is the only place I ever get a fast-food burger from anymore. Top-notch. Prices can't be beat.

Ahhhh, Dicks.
*insert obligatory 7th grade bathroom humor joke*
My crowd wasn't from the area... and it's obviously one of the popular spots that everyone loooooves if they grew up on it {i.e. In-N-Out, Whataburger} so naturally we weren't too impressed. I mean, they charge for freakin' ketchup. Who does that?
Anywho, my little burger was just okay. Fries were pretty good and greasy. Ice cream was a nice touch at the end.
But 3 stars because if I lived in Seattle, I could see myself hanging out here late at night with friends. I have a weakness for late night spots, after all. -

I was at this Dick's location a couple of weeks ago. Hmmmm Queene Anne huh? Interesting.
The place is pretty cool. You order, pay your high price for your greasy fast food, take greasy fast food, & then proceed to get in your car & either leave or stay in it & eat.
The employees are fast as hell at their job. The parking lot is humongous!, & the food is great! Try the special or the deluxe if you come here. Get a shake too! Duhhhh like you didn't already know that right? Well if ya don't know, now ya know.
Check this place out! -
Review from Trisha F.
Yummy, cheap, crowd-pleasing. This is quintessential American food-- greasy, delicious, you can cram it in your face while you are driving to the next thing you have packed into your schedule.
Bring cash, be prepared for sodas that are true to size (what? a small that actually looks small?) and paying .05 cents for ketchup and other condiments. No having it your way here-- you get what is on the burger, which is awesome in that orders and service take half the time.
Feel good about supporting a workplace that actually seems to give a $hit about their employees in terms of fair pay and scholarship opportunities. -
Review from Nina W.
This is by far my most favorite location. It's in Ballard, and that is where I am from, my roots are there, and though I have been away and my family is no longer based there it's like coming home. The air there smells so familiar, the sounds of the neighborhood are comforting, and the pavement beneath my feet feels like a part of me.
Summer nights are always pretty busy, sometimes rudely interrupted by teenagers and young drunk people looking to get their munchie fix, but on a rainy dark October night around 10:15, like tonight, it was pretty dead. And dude at the window totally made fresh fries just for me. Oh man, they are incredible when scalding hot.
It's not always the best, but even at its worst, it's still pretty good. It's cheap, and quick, and fills your need. It's reliable. It's consistant. It's familiar.
Hometown girl for life. I will say it proudly: I love me some Dick's.Listed in: Burg's and 'Wiches, My Favorite Reviews!

All the legends are true. These greasy, super cheap hamburger joints aren't that bad. They're also nice after a night of gallivanting and tomfoolery in Ballard.
They aren't the best fastfood burgers I had, but for the money you can't go wrong. The grease must have been chemically engineered to bond and divorce yourself of those alcohol molecules.
Dick's are the best night cap. -

Baby,
You know you're poison for my body. You're everything I'm not supposed to have... You hurt me when I eat you.
But baby, dollface, you're Special. Can't find another like you out there, heartbreaker.
I love you, now and always.
Sincerely,

Super-greasy fries that are the cause of a few heart attacks, I'm sure. It's kinda nasty, but it's better than McDonalds.
If you limit grabbing a bag of Dick's to once a year, you may be able to enjoy it without a side of guilt. -

WOW! THEY REALLY ARE DICKS!! HORRIBLE!! NEVER AGAIN!! THE WORST BURGER EVER!!
1. Soggy as brown lettuce - A BIG NO NO
2. Where is the tomato?
3. Very Small - Even the double
4. SOGGY FRIES - ANOTHER BIG NO NO
This was our fist time here, We asked if we can have ketchup, HE SNAPPED BACK AND SAID " WELL I DIDN'T CHARGE YOU FOR IT"
WHAT??? Since you charge for ketchup, DO IT! CHARGE ME FOR MY KETCHUP.. BUT WHO THE F* CHARGES FOR KETCHUP?? AND IF IM GOING TO PAY FOR KETCHUP, IT BETTER BE ORGANIC GOOD AS KETCHUP, IT WAS NASTY AND SOUR- SOME GENERIC BRAND.
The correct way to speak to a customer would be, No problem, we charge for ketchup, would you like some and how many?

What is there not to like about Dicks?
I don't get Dicks often (enough), but some nights this is the perfect place for my boyfriend and I to grab some food.
I love love love their fries!! I also love the deluxe burger- not many burgers taste food without the bun, but these do!!!!
Also- they treat their employees very well. Bonus. -

I don't fully remember the extent of my first Dicks experience but I remember vaguely enjoying it at the time and liking how cheap it was. AMERICA!

Dick's, I love you. You're a Seattle institution. You remind me of my childhood, when dad would take us here before a mariners game, or the one in Queen Anne before a Sonics (RIP) game. You remind me of high school when we would come here too much and chat up the workers. You remind me of last weekend when I drank too much at the bar and needed a burger as my cure.
You're greasy, cheap, and sometimes, just what I need. -

I live in San Diego and also rate In-N-Out with 5 stars but if you had one burger at your final meal you would choose the Dick's Deluxe and fries over the double double.
I have eaten here over 100 times and never had a bad meal. The fries also last over an hour unlike some other places. -

Some of you people need a reality check. I understand that Dicks is a Seattle tradition but in this case, its a tradition that needs to die (or better yet, be replaced with a tradition that doesn't make your ass explode).
Maybe its because I've been blessed with great 50's diner burgers my whole life; hell, even In and Out is a better fast-food style burger. But this place?...wow, really people.....four stars? Really? Are you being honest with yourself or just hopeful and nostalgic?
I was told by all the natives to try this place. How great it is. Guess what? Its nasty. Its slimy little patties on slimy little buns. Thats not four stars... thats just gross. Whats worse is they let the cops park here for a speed trap. -

The best fast food burger ever! It is even better than most burger joints.
The burgers are small, but very tasty. I love their special sauce. The fries are perfectly cooked as well. I love this place -

I think this is my favorite Dicks location and let me tell you why.
Hardly ever a long line
Ample parking
Close enough to pop over to Carkeek or Golden Gardens with your goods
Also I have very fond memories of walking here as a child with a couple bucks from the parents. -

We decided to pass by on the drive back from a wedding in Vancouver to our hotel in downtown Seattle. Let's just say this is a very poppin' place at 1 10am on a Saturday night! Tons of kiddies (college kids?) there to buy burgers
I'm so glad one of my friends recommended this place to us. It was the perfect 1 10am snack/after clubbing food, and CHEAP!
Trashy burger (no custom orders so don't bother asking for no pickles on the deluxe), soggy oily fries, and shakes. It's somewhere in between In n Out, 5 guys and Burger King. Decent shake, OILY fries, and the burger looks like it's been shaken around a good bit and squashed (just like BK.)
If I'm in Seattle again, I know where I'd go when I need a late night burger/shake!Listed in: In my travels

Wow, really guys, 4 to 5 stars on this place that serves soggy fries and soggy lettuce on the bun...no way, don't get the appeal that many of you have for this place. They charge for all the condiments, take only cash, and were little rude for my taste when I asked for ketchup. In any case this place has nothing on In and Out, far from it. I guess since I am new to Seattle I can venture out to find a better burger. I don't think that it will be that difficult considering that this DICK's place was just plain nasty. I guess some of you just like DICK's, NOT me.

Any true native Seattle North-ender will tell you that Dick's is the hottest local's burger joint around. Their fries, with tartar, are a true legend of goodness.
Keeping them at the top of my list is the fact that they treat their employees well, they use fresh ingredients, and make it a priority to give back to the community. -
Review from Vivian H.
I was excited to try Dick's because it's supposed to be the Seattle equivalent to In N Out. The two should not even be compared. I knew something was weird when they wouldn't let me order a hamburger because they didn't already have them made. What? You can't make a fresh hamburger for a paying customer and...wait a minute.. they're pre-made??? So bf and I shared the special burger instead and since they're pre-made you can't tell them that you don't want the mayo or pickles. The lettuce was in slivers like at McDonald's. The wrapped burger was soggy from condensation, the patty lacked flavor, and I was thoroughly disappointed. They're pretty much only useful for their compost bin where we take our compost to because our apartment building doesn't have one.

Classic!
Great place to get a bite to eat. The old feel of the place makes it all the more better. The food has never been bad and the milkshakes are fantastic.
No reason to change, the food and service are good. -

Dick's is a staple of any true Seattlite's fast food dining. Good fast burgers from the much loved drive in experience. Just a word of warning for the Holman Rd location. They mess up on the condiments about a 1/3rd fo the time. Check before you leave. This last time they gave me tartar sauce instead of the onions (that was a new one. the typical trick is to forget them altogether)

Dicks was a great place for the people by the people where poor students and blue collar workers used to eat. During the last economic boom, Dicks raised food prices regularly to sky high levels compared to what it was. The burgers dont even taste that good anymore. Dicks has turned into just another greedy, overpriced tourist trap. Dicks truely stabbed Seattle in the back.
I'd rather go to Kid Valley, XXX, or any other gourmet burger joint(and Dicks isn't gourmet) for the same price. -
Review from EDGAR M.
Simple menu but they know how to do it good and well.
Also the prices is so cheap why not get two of everything.
I got two deluxe burgers, one order of fries, and a chocolate shake.
I want to go back for sure when I'm in Seattle again. -

I don't get it. Maybe as a transplanted Seattleite, I never will. I just don't get the appeal of Dicks. Sure, the jokes write themselves but past the plethora of jokes you can make... what else is there? Their burgers didn't stand out in my mind and the fries on both occasions were limp. I tried to eat here... twice! And both times were just... blech.
When I explain this to other people, the majority say the same thing - it's great when you are drunk. Well hell, so are bad decisions about sexual partners but it doesn't mean that I have to be a lemming about it. I understand now, I was too sober to get the full experience of enjoying their offerings. If my faculties were in question, then I'd LOVE their food. Hmm, no thank you. Next time I'm hungry at that odd hour of the morning, I'll cart my happy ass to grab some late night pizza or make something at home. -

My favorite burger comes from In N Out. Yeah, that's right! I'm a CA transplant, what of it????
Anyways, there's several kinds of burgers as there are several differnent types of Pizza. Comparing one to another is like comparing apples and oranges. That said. Dick's is my favorite "mustard and ketchup burger". You know.....those burgers that McD and BK invented. -

I'm more into their fries than their burgers. Sure, cheap eats, can't expect much, but when you get their fries on a good day like we did on a Wednesday night @ 10pm, it was absolutely fantastic.
My fiance and I had 3 bags of French fries and we got into an argument about who was going to eat the last fry. Of course I got it, but that's how delicious they were. I also love their chocolate milkshake, old-fashioned, just wish there were more of it. -
Review from Chris B.
So I grew up in Southern California, I love In-N-Out and have a love for nostalgia for a classic burger stand. Dick's has that feel! The funny things is the fries taste really close to In-N-Out's fries. You can tell they are fresh, hand cut and really good. The burgers are simple and tasty, the chopped pickle/mayo relish is really good and adds a lot of flavor. Reminds me a little of Bob's Big Boy's relish, well a little that is. Vanilla shake is a great way to finish of a really good and affordable meal. I can see why so many Seattlites love Dick's, you have a convert!

Review from Dan K.
Seattle icon or not, Dick's is just merely okay. The reason I give it two stars and not three is because of the service. I opened my wallet and my thumb brushed against my credit card- "CASH ONLY!" the cashier snapped. Alright buddy, damn, calm down. At least at In-n-out (which this establishment seems to be compared to), the workers have to force a smile and pretend to like you, which makes everyone feel good about themselves. And screw this pre-made, no customization crap. I realize you want things to move quickly and not make people wait, but it makes me question the freshness of it all. My Dick's deluxe (that sounds strange) was probably made 30 minutes ago and it's not the "just-made" quality that so many burger joints strive for. So just add in the service and see the stars fall, but up the star for good value (cheap f'sho).
Dick's has nothing on In-N-Out. Sorry. -

Review from Trevor K.

Dick's is a Seattle icon.
Don't come here looking for fancy burgers with blue cheese, bacon, and grilled onions. This drive-in joint offers no frills, and it doesn't need to -- you don't come to Dick's because you want truly top-quality food and gourmet ingredients. You don't come to Dick's because you want to try something different. You come to Dick's because sometimes, as you cruise by unsuspectingly and that bright orange neon sign catches your gaze, you *need* to come to Dick's.
If you've never been, you don't know. The floodgates haven't been opened; the sinful bliss inside of Pandora's box has yet to be unleashed. Your first bite of the soft bun, American cheese, and perfectly proportioned squirts of ketchup and mustard, though, and you're doomed -- forever enslaved to the orange neon that will draw you in like a tractor beam for the rest of your days.
This is Seattle's version of In-N-Out (only without the off-the-menu lingo). Only a few things have been added to the menu since the place opened in 1954 (this location in 1960), and that's the way it's likely to stay. Lots of people swear by the Deluxe, but that's got too much stuff for my taste - I'll take a couple of cheeseburgers any day. The fries are good -- hand-cut -- but not at all crisp. They're a bit on the soggy side. The shakes are great, though, and with cheeseburgers that'll keep you coming back for as long as your digestive system will handle them, I'm not too worried about the fries.Listed in: Best Burgers

For super cheap burgers, I loved it. Everyone talks about Dicks, and this was my first experience. Burgers reminded me a little of Krystals (White Castle, etc.), but a little larger. Great hand-made shakes too. Fries were delish!

Review from Sonya L.
Look, I love Dick's (cue jokes here). It is my absolute favorite fast food place and one of the few places I actually eat a beef burger. My last meal on earth would likely be a cheeseburger, fries, and a strawberry shake from Dick's - that's how much I love this place.
HOWEVER...this location is not as good as others I've been to. In fact, it's a pretty big letdown.
Every single time I've been to this location, I've had to wait a very long time in line, as I watch three, maybe four, employees run around with their heads cut off trying to complete orders. It seems like there are never enough employees to match the number of customers. Hire a couple more people, please!
The fries never have enough salt! I watch them shake the salt shaker over the fries for about two seconds...and that's it. The result is still good fries, but ones that really could use more salt.
Also, the fries are never warm enough! Last night, I watched one of the employees make several new batches of fries. I was lucky enough to get one of the new things of fries...but somehow they were still lukewarm! Last time I was at this location, on my birthday in January, the fries were again lukewarm.
It's so hard to have this happen because I love the food at Dick's and would eat here first over any other fast food burger joint. But because this location is always slow and has lukewarm fries, I often consider going elsewhere. Sad, but true...Listed in: Bodacious Ballard
