Do you like uncomfortable wooden chairs?  Do you enjoy lukewarm barbecue?  Do you like barbecue chicken that has no flavor until you pour sauce all over it?  Do you enjoy said sauce to be extremely watery?

If you do, then this is the place for you!

There isn't much redeemable about Dickey's, to be totally honest.  The chicken is flavorless, the pork is extremely fatty.  They only have two sauces to select from: a sweet sauce and a ridiculously sweet sauce.  If you like spicy barbecue sauce, too bad.

The potato salad is way too mustardy (my potato-salad-loving wife was unable to eat it).

On the plus side, the food is cheap, and they offer free unlimited soft-serve ice cream (combine it with root beer from the fountain for a custom root beer float).

Otherwise, stay away from Dickey's, there's way better barbecue around.

OK, I'm a big BBQ fan...acquired the taste and discovered the culture of BBQ while in Memphis (where they have a BBQ festival that draws 200,000 people in a weekend).

The food at Dickey's in Louisville, while plentiful, was really disappointing. The meal I had resembled cafeteria food more than slow smoked BBQ. Lots of better options even in a meat-unfriendly locale like Boulder County.

Being that my husband and I are fans of bbq places, we had to check out Dickey's. The place definitely didn't disappoint! There you can get all the traditional bbq meats (pulled pork, brisket, smoked turkey, etc) and their sauces are very good as well. The sandwiches are huge and piled with meat, and the sides are pretty filling as well (I tried the fried okra [being that I'm from OK and am addicted to that kind of thing] and my husband had the baked beans). We'll definitely go back! The thing I found funny is that they only have ONE drink size (it's 32 ounces, so HUGE) and it comes in a reusable plastic cup. It's not too expensive, I think we paid around $20 for two "one side" sandwich meals and two drinks.  Anyway, definitely check it out if you like southern-style bbq!
