I would recommend Diamond Oaks to anyone looking for a Napa destination. Not only do they make a great Cabernet but they also have a great spot for a picnic. If you're feeling Adventurous maybe check out their Bocci ball court.
I admit to only trying the reds, but I suggest you get some of the 2005 Cabernet Reserve, its awesome.
Did I mention that its next to Harlan Estate? Shoot, all of Oakville is home to legendary wine, do you really need another reason to try? -

This winery is actually closed. After reading the reviews I wanted to go check it out but when we got there, it was deserted and someone working there let us know it is no longer running and no longer even open to the public. It's a shame because it has such a beautiful view of the valley.
Just thought i'd give others a heads up so they don't drive out there expecting a winery. -

Diamond Oaks
This is a new winery with heavy Chardonnay lineup. They are located at where the old Vichon/La Familia used to be on Oakville Grade.
2001 Silver Carneros Chardonnay
Citrus nose with light pineapple. Green apple on the palate, simple.
2001 Chalk Hill Chardonnay
Rather light citrus nose. Green apple with touch of cream on palate. Rounder mouth feel than the Silver Carneros bottling. Still not too interesting.
2001 Reserve Carneros Chardonnay
Sweet oak with a touch of fig showing on the nose. Flavor of apricot and soft red apple on palate.
2000 Reserve Carneros Chardonnay
Best showing Chardonnay out of the bunch. Fullest body of the entire lineup. Cream, fig, caramel and light toffee.
2002 Carneros Pinot Noir
Nose of strawberries and red cherries. Soft red fruit on palate. Lack depth and complexity. Simple wine with touch of green. -

If you're looking to picnic in Napa Valley like the locals do, this is the only place to do it. It's located on the edge of a mountain off the main drag and up the Oakville grade. Views = SPECTACULAR. It's the most romantic spot in Napa hands down. I visited on the day after Thanksgiving with my cooler full of left over Turkey...oh YEAH.
For a mere $30.00, the winery will reserve a table, provide a bottle of wine and glasses, and place a white or checkered tablecloth. Your name will be on the table when you arive. For those into VIP club treatment...you'll feel the same way here. Ask for the table located in the front right corner relative to the front door of the tasting room. Corkpulls are strategically dangled from the trees, just in case you forget. You can also walk-in and ask for a table, all they ask is that you buy a bottle from them. Their wine is good and reasonably priced so check it out.
For you Napa buffs, this vineyard is the former La Famiglia. -

Just love, love, love, this little winery. We heard that they were good for picnics so we made a reservation to use one of their picnic tables online. Once we got there, we got to taste for free, and got $5 off our bottle of wine for our picnic to boot. The views here are fabulous and we had probably one of the best views from our table.
We tried two of their chardonnays, since we were looking for something nice and cold for their picnic. It went really well with the cheeses, meats, and breads that we brought with us. We got to meet the owner and he was very friendly and accomodating...he recommended that we try the Pinot, which was so good we just had to get another bottle to take home.
Will definitely go back and bring a few friends with us next time! -

I am hereby spilling one of the best kept secrets of the Napa Wine Country... The place is a pretty good winery, the staff is nice, and the wine Isn't too bad at all. This is also a place with a picnic area that comes with buying a bottle of thier not too bad at all wine (especially the '04 Cab). This is also the place with THE MOST AMAZING VIEW of the WHOLE VALLEY from their picnic areas to enjoy with their bottle of '04 Cab.

Probably 4 1/2 stars...
The picnic area is great. You're perched high enough that you're overlooking a small valley of vineyards in front of those cool hills. Make sure you make a reservation for a table so you're not left out if it's busy season. We ended up packing a picnic lunch from a whole foods. You'll have to buy a bottle at the winery, but you also get $5 off a bottle of wine with the reservation. So, you might as well do it. Their prices are reasonable.
The wine is ok, but their main attraction is that picnic area. We did, though, end up buying an extra bottle of wine on our way out.
So, bottom line - Make a reservation, buy a bottle of wine, save $5, have a picnic, enjoy the views! -

The winery is on top of a hill, and the view is breathtaking!!! The picnic area is nicely shaded and very cute. We stopped at Oakville grocery store and picked up some meats, cheese, olives, crackers, sandwiches, came to Diamond Oaks to try some wine, and have a little picnic. We weren't wowed by the reds, but the chardonnay was quite refreshing and delicious. It went perfectly with our picnic food. Hubby played romantic music from his iPod, he laid down on my lap, looking down the hills of Oakville. Gentle warm breeze was in the air. Ah . . .

This is one of my favorite wineries in Napa Valley.
A group of us arrived on the Napa Valley Wine Shuttle and headed in to their tasting room, which was gorgeous with dark hardwoods and granite accents. We really enjoyed their Cabernet and bought a bottle right there. Their wines are not sold anywhere other than the winery. Headed outside and the view is amazing ! A breathtaking and refreshing view of the valley. Diamond Oaks also has a picnic area that you can reserve a table at and enjoy a picnic. We picked up a pamphlet on their wine club and its not that expensive at all. There are no membership costs and you get a shipment of three bottles a year that average $60-$80 dollars. Other benefits of joining their wine club include: 25% discount on wine purchases, complimentary picnic table reservations, and complimentary wine tastings at the winery up to 6 people. Our next trip to Napa will include a stop at Diamond Oaks. -

Four stars for the view! It was the last stop on our Platypus Tour, and I had stopped drinking because I was the post-tour designated driver. I didn't taste any the yummy looking wines, but I did get to enjoy the gorgeous view behind the winery! They also have a great picnic area complete with tables. Our tour guide said it does get busy here during the lunch hour and can be difficult to find an open table. Apparently, they also do private parties...there was a wedding party having lunch here before the big day.

This place has great ambiance with amazing views of the valley. I am a big fan of the reds and they weren't anything to write about. I do reccomend you taste their chards. The 04-06 chalk hill chardonnay is a great find. Relatively inexpensive, it has a buttery oak taste. I love it. I bought a case of the 05' reserve. They have a beautiful picnic area, i reccomend picnic with a nice chard.

What a find! A quick detour off the main (read overcrowded) road brings you to this fabulous place. Tweny-six of us arrived for lunch to help celebrate a friends 50th. The hospitality staff was great, helping us to set up, and quickly moving us indoors when rain threatened. The wines were a great match with the food, and very reasonably priced. Special thanks to Linda who kept everyone happy!
