OMG, heaven!

I'm back in Hawaii for the summer and all I dreamt about while flying over was the Mana bowl!  Finally after 3 weeks in Hawaii, I came by last night... this place will forever be in my heart! From the decor, ono food and the way how I feel while eating the mana bowl and walking out post Mana bowl! I'm a fan!

The Mana bowl makes me all warm and fuzzy inside! ha. Oh, I like it with extra crunchy granola and extra honey. $1 each for extras. Worth it!

5 stars this time around... because there was parking, no lines and open tables! perfect! (I came around 8pm)

I'll be back one more time before I fly back to LA at the end of the month to get my Acai's bowl fix.

super chill place and if you aren't, you'll be chill by the time you finish a bowl of kava.

there were some seats outside but it was much cooler inside.
old peeling surfing posters lined the walls.
some simple jewelry were for sale on the counter.

don't forget to look up as there is artwork on the ceiling as well.

it was fun to see the servers bopping and working to the music.

there wasn't the long yelped wait time as it was a slow monday afternoon.  the friendly servers were dark tanned gals and fellas who looked like avid surfers.

well...the prices for staying healthy or rather eating healthy seemed steep: from 5$ for a kava bowl, 8$ for fruit bowls, and 11$+ for food items.

bites included veggie wraps, fish wraps, and gourmet hummus.  the giant fruit and granola bowls with honey  looked especially deelish.

but we were thirsty so we shared a berry smoothie with some protein mix as well as a bowl of kava.

no going half way with the kava smoothie option.  if you don't like the bitter taste of kava, adding some sweet stuff won't really help you out.
it put me a warm and relaxed mood before heading out to surf the waves.

my first experience with acai was at the health bar and it was amazing, like an explosion went off in my mouth.  unfortunately, today was not so much.  i'm really bummed at how my mana bowl turned out...it was dreadfully dull and tasteless, lacked granola, fruit, and honey.  pretty much was a melted bowl of ice cream.

i'm going to give 3 stars and the benefit of the doubt that maybe the staff was having an off day?

My favorite (and only place) for grabbing a refreshing bowl of Acai. I typically get Da Cove Bowl, which could probably be big enough for 2 people, although I usually go in after a day at the beach or hiking when I can scarf it down. This is a really healthy snack or dessert with acai, granola, strawberries, bananas, etc. but it does come with a hefty price tag - about $8 for the bowl. I think this might be unavoidable since acai is a pretty expensive ingredient, but nonetheless, the price keeps me from going in every day (which I would if I could).

They have a lot of other things on the menu, like smoothies, salads, and wraps that sound delicious and healthy. I'm definitely going to explore their menu more.

This place seems to be a local favorite, usually packed every time I go in there, which makes the wait time for your bowl or smoothie almost 15-20 minutes (which can be almost unbearable if you have a bad craving for it). The staff is friendly, and some times they have 3 adorable labs that wander and play with the customers (be sure to close the door so they don't get out!). I would definitely recommend this after going on a hike at Diamond Head or a run around Waikiki. It's the most refreshing thing you could do for yourself!

Proooobably the best Acai bowl I have EVER had.

The service the last time I was there was exceptionally slow, but the times before that, it was pretty fast. I guess it was just the person who was serving me.

I know this is foolish, but the only thing I've ever had there is the Acai Bowl. But still, I can safely say that it's the best I have ever had, and I've had plenty.
Go if just for that.

I loved this place!  We had just finished the Diamond Head hike and were starving and thirsty, and decided to try this little health bar after searching for "kava" on Yelp.

My boyfriend and I split a Veggie Wrap but as soon as I smelled the fish I regretted it... the fish smelled wonderful!  Their website showed an Ahi Sashimi plate but it was nowhere to be found on their menu, which made me a bit sad :(

On the way out we ordered a fruit smoothie to split.  The girls working all seemed very nice and friendly, plus I loved the atmosphere of the place... laid back and relaxed!  We will definitely come back the next time we visit (hopefully soon)!

Best Acai Bowl on island!  Quite homey and lovely inside with the ceiling boards painted (covering up the water marks, yea, we all know what's up but we still love ya ;), walls covered in photographs of the seeming patron's dog surfing and other heartwarming aloha-y images and trinkets, kitchen in full view, sweet staff, etc.  Depending on how you're feeling, it's either the kind of place you can just sink into and pretty much blend into as a part of the decor too because all the trinkets and photographs and stuff seem to breathe a life of their own, or it's the kind of place that the people inside seem so much more vibrant because all the stuff in there enhances and colors us.  Also, went on a Sunday evening and there was live music!  Definitely a place where people go to hang after a day at the beach.  So so lovely!

I had my first ever Acai bowl this afternoon at DHC, and it was delicious!

Now, I guess I really have nothing to compare it to, but still, I thought it was excellent.  I ordered (and so did all of my friends) the "Da Cove Acai Bowl," which, if I remember correctly, is the standard Acai bowl that a majority of people order.  $7.85 for the entire bowl, which I think is kind of steep, but, once again, I have nothing to compare it to, so it could possibly be a steal, who knows.

Regardless, the bowl was amazing, with bananas, strawberries, granola and honey glaze.  Really, really good.  I liked the atmosphere as well.  One patron had his three Labradors with him and they were roving around the place, which added to the laid-back environment.  The servers seemed chill, and I just enjoyed the vibe of the place.

My one complaint?  Two of my friends ordered their bowls, but the servers forgot about them.  Pretty huge error on their part, considering that my friends pre-paid for the bowls, but we weren't in any rush so it was minor.  If you need to be somewhere or are sometimes impatient, I can see this being a problem, especially since it wasn't very crowded.

im sure its been said many times. BEST ACAI BOWL! i think these guys started in down here...im not sure but this was the first place i had it. before jamba before all those places started serving it. you cant beat the organic honey they use and the granola here is awesome as well.  one thing i notice now is that they have the acar blend premade, which kinda sucks. before everything was freshly blended when you ordered it. and i guess they ran out of the honey, cuz today was regular honey :( hopefully next time it will be back to normal. still the best acai bowl period.

i USED to come here all the time.   why don't i go here anymore?  the service is absolutely by far the worst i have ever imagined.

i understand that DHC has a following, lots of people ordering, etc... but come on - 45 MINUTES for an acai bowl?  at first i was willing to put up with it... then at our last visit, my bf and i stood in front of the counter for 20 minutes waiting to order while the server was preparing an order before she looked up at us and said "we're closed."

um, what? did we just appear out of thin air or something?

anyway, we have since taken our business elsewhere.  it's not like DHC has the most magical acai bowl on the island, anyway.  lanikai, jewel and juice, mocha java... or save yourself a few bucks (and a lot of your time) and make your own at home.

How do you say that this place has some of the best food you ever have had, but the service sucks?  You have to order at the bar and pay... it takes a while to get the food... when you get a large salad, you get a small thing of dressing and if you want more it costs a dollar... they won't split a smoothie for you, you have to do it...

If you want some of the best Acai... and are content to put up with being "put up with".... then take a moment to excuse their behavior, and go for the food.  It is great and worth wading through the crap to get it... maybe that is why they treat people that way?

A bit pricey... for what you get, but it is 'da kine ono grinds"

i used to come here time to time when i was at KCC.  came back one night for the first time in over a year.  they are opened until midnight, amazing!

drank kava for the first time.  i'm not sure if it was the acai bowls we had as well or it was just me but the kava didn't seem to work its magic like everyone said it would.  lol whatevers, will definitely try it again.  kava tasted like dirt and that rag they use...nast-ay.

very chill atmosphere at night.  this one guy was singing with his guitar, i believe his name was Guy.  great voice :)  definitely a place to hit up when you want a chill night with friends.

I frequent here quite often after being hooked for generous servings, great tasting acai bowl mix and friendly service...NOT ANYMORE!!!!!

I'm FED UP! I ordered a mana (big)  bowl...looked like half a cove (small)

- Apparently being SKIMPY is the "in" thing here
- MEAGER AMOUNTS of what used to be copious granola
- NO GRANOLA on the bottom of the bowls anymore
- ONLY three slices of teeny-tiny diced bananas (what used to be choke)
- ONE MEASLY, SMALL, ROTTEN STRAWBERRY that wasn't cut
- ROTTEN five blueberries haphazardly tossed on (one fell off)
- A PINCH of bee pollin
- A DRIP OF HONEY (what USED TO BE DOUSED)
- The actual acai was YICKY! TOO CREAMY, ALL MUSHY, ALL MELTY, ALL NOT BLENDED WELL! DISGUSTING!

Service:
- Talk about cold shoulder!
- All these new girls are coming in, they DO NOT have a clue what's going on and end up messing up the original system
- This one server in particular, KEI IS THE MOST SKIMPY WITH ACAI! Yeah, I had a 1/8in. thick slice of banana, HALF A TINY ROTTEN STRAWBERRY, and was there even granola? HATE IT WHEN SHE'S WORKING!

It's almost as if they're TRYING TO GET RID OF CUSTOMERS by treating us this way.
FOR BETTER ACAI BOWLS, there are A BUNCH OF BETTER LOCATIONS THAN HEALTH BAR! Trust me, I LOVE acai, but am so very disappointed in this business!

Ok, sometimes your body just craves something healthy, fresh, and organic but you also don't want to sacrifice taste - Hello!? This is exactly what sent my friends and I on a whirlwind drive around the island to get our fix.... acai fix that is ;) So, I popped in at local surf wear shop and asked the sales clerk to steer us to the Best smoothies in town - and I explained that the smoothies had the be "da kine" not the, no offense, "Jamba" variety but the Real Deal...

Next thing I know I've got what seems like a pretty sketchy map and not so clear directions scribbled down on the back of my receipt (just had to buy myself some fresh Von Zipper Sunglasses) to a place called Diamond Head Cove Health Bar and we head out. "That cute clerk says we'll be there in 12 minutes", I assure my amigos.

By now I am sufficiently thirsty and ready to chow down after a long day of tourist-ing; and I tell you what, my Acai-dar was Fully engaged and nothing was going to get in the way of me finding "Da Cove" as it is also affectionately known by.
So, few U-turns, and twenty minutes later we land at a humble looking store front - but no matter this us usually a Good Sign - I mean the flashy-er looking places are usually posers anyway. So, we go in and we don't hesitate... the three of us order (2) organic salads and (1) acai smoothie and (2) acai bowls with fruit and granola.... Now let me take a pause here before I tell you how Freakin Fantastic my acai bowl was... and tell you how totally charming the interior of this place is....

You'll have to probably experience it for yourself but I am telling you there's a warm welcoming aloha spirit here and you're gonna feel the vibe. Sit back, enjoy the artwork that was hand sketched onto the ceiling tiles, great images hanging on the walls, the friendly staff, and then there's the live music that was just getting setup as we were heading out.
My only regret is that we didn't find this wonderful gem until the night before we had to fly home - but it was an unforgettable find.
Be sure to check my photos of this place. I may have to come back to add more but you can also check their website: http://www.diamondhead...

Ok, so back to the ACAI BOWLS brah! They were FREAKIN' DA KINE dude, comprende!!!????  Whew! If only airfare was more affordable I'd jump on a plane just to get my acai bowl on.
Just look at my picture and tell me I don't look stoned - oops! I mean happy ;)
OMG almost forgot - the humus is Out of this World too! LOTS of fresh Garlic and made fresh - Enjoy!

It's ridiculous how good the acai bowl is.  Except once in awhile they're out of one of the fruit ingredients, then the taste suffers.  Also you get a choice of either chewy or crunchy granola!

I great place for Kava too.  Fresh and cold.

I've also seen them bring in a fresh tuna and cut it up for sashimi $15/plate.

Also if you're lucky you can see the dog from lost who belongs to the owner.

Live music some nights.

Don't go if you're uptight.  People are laid back and will want to share tables.  It feels like being in Kailua while not leaving town.

If anyone else in the world (specifically in Seattle) would like to take a hint, and figure out what a proper Acai Bowl is, then this is the place to go.  The mana bowl with some crunchy granola, is where it's at--and as much as we've tried to duplicate it in our homes, there's something that's being done here that we can't quite perfect.  If you want to get a good taste of acai, look no further.
You can also get shells of kava here as well.  I was floored when I saw young WOMEN in their late teens and early twenties walking outside to enjoy a shell of kava on the outdoor tables.  I've never seen anything like that in my life!  Only at the tourist centres in the Pacific! Leave it to Hawai'i...

We live over by the Ilikai and decided to walk all the way to Diamond Head and do the hike as well.  On the way back we were famished and had decided we were gonna stop in for some smoothies.

My husband ordered off the menu and I'm on limited sugar intake so they were able to make me a blend of acai/blueberries/coconut milk...sooooo good!!!

I'm still dying to try the acai bowls :)

The environment is great and the atmosphere is so chill. You dont pay before you eat but after and although you could eat outside and just leave without paying, I for one would never do that with such friendly people in such a chill atmosphere. THe food is freshly made and the fish in all their food is fresh caught and made to order. the acai is good but I have tasted better from other places. THey have nice fresh squeezed juices from many fruits and veggies offred and the best thing there-the fish wrap. Although $10, the thing is gigantic and quality tasting with fresh fish and vegetables. looking for a place to relax after the beach or a hard day? Pop on in here and enjoy

Chill place to hang out and enjoy kava.
Very laid back, friendly hole in the wall.  Nice alternative to coffee shops or bars.  Kava makes people relaxed and friendly instead of jittery or obnoxious.
The kava smoothie makes kava palatable and I enjoyed the taste, although a friend didn't like it.  That time it was fairly strong, which I prefer, I've had it other times and thought it was too weak ~ the service here is somewhat variable, and can be forgetful, though always friendly.

The staff is friendly, the scene is local, and the veggie wraps are ono.  Sure the place is small but the art lets your mind wander and a packed house just means that there is demand for more places like this with healthy food and good people.  Sign on the wall reads, "The opposite of fast food."  They aren't joking...but that's a good thing.  Overheard the owner talking to other customers about the unfiltered organic honey he was getting from the Big Island.  He compared that honey to prime rib while regular honey is like a hamburger.  Well put.

Haven't been here for a while, but according to L.W.'s review it seems like a lot has changed.  The workers were always nice and friendly to me, and the owner I think, the guy who owns the dog that is in all the pictures and supposedly is the dog that is in LOST, was always super cool.  The acai is pretty good, but I stopped buying acai bowls because I started to make my own at home.  They use Sambazon packets which in my opinion are not as good as the Amazon Mania Raw packets that are available at Kokua Market and Huckleberry Farms.  They always were generous with the portions of fruit, however I think the acai was diluted just a bit.  Great place, great vibe.
