I don't think i ever gave 5 stars, but this place certainly deserves it.
Its been here for a million years, but
Saturday I went for the first time in search of the "perfect" cookie. OMG . . . all of their cookies are perfect; and their rugulah is to die for. . . . (eat your heart out Cantors) . . .
the best bakery in LA that i've discovered so far :)

The cookies The cookies The cookies... I was just there yesterday. I should've bought more.
Someone from work told me about this place... saying how the items they made, reminded her of the places she frequented during her childhood in the Bronx... Good enough advertising for me.
Best black & white cookies EVER. Period. The rugulah.. go ahead, buy half a pound assorted. Chocolate chip danish... Very good. The alligator pastry... the best I've had. Better than that of the bakery that's known for turning those out (which shall remain nameless). The russian coffee cake... RICH. Too many raisins. Not my favorite style coffee cake but good nonetheless.
The rye bread, i keep forgetting to buy. I'm always targeting the sweets. Usually gone by the time i get there in the afternoon... Rye bread is next. So is the cheesecake.
Diamonds has been here for eons. I started visiting there in 1970. It is the best bakery in L.A. - bar none. Nobody mentions the cheese cake - don't know wthy. I have eaten 40 ponds of it and have no complaints - take a look at my photo!
The only better loaf of bread might be the french stuff from Pioneer Bakery, Sta Monica. But that is only the french bread.
Worth the trip, worth the wait, stop in and have some!

My mother-in-law grew up coming to this bakery. My husband took me there for the first time about 7 years ago. DUDE!!!!! It is sooo good. So when we go down to visit family we always make a trek out to Diamonds. We end up coming home with like 10 pink boxes of stuff.
List of things to buy when you go:
1. Racetrack (the most chocolaty thing you will ever taste)
2. Sprinkle cookies (yeah yeah I know...but they are damn good!)
3. Mandelbrot (for all you goys, its like biscotti)
4. Chocolate Lacey cookies (by far my favorite)
3. Chocolate chip rolls (the big ones are the only way to go. Get them home and heat them up in the micro..divine!)

During my high school time in Northern California, a friend's father used to travel to LA where he would pick up loaves of Diamond Bakery's amazing rye bread. He had grown up eating the stuff as a kid and couldn't resist dropping in to stock up before the plane-ride home. And it's easy to understand why. Tart in that yummy rye way and with enough of a tender sponge-like texture to remind one why it's good to buy rye bread fresh from a bakery as opposed to from a shelf at a grocery store. Also good at Diamond: The Chocolate Babka, the Challah loaves, their chocolate horn (and it's just kind of fun just to say "chocolate horn" out loud) as well as all their little cookies.
Diamond Bakery is an old-world bakery experience far removed from the artesian breads of La Brea Bakery, the macaroons of Boule, or Doughboys Red Velvet Cake. Mind you, I'm not saying anything is wrong with Red Velvet Cake or sexy little macaroons, just sometimes I'm feeling old-school and Diamond Bakery is there for me.

Great little bakery! I know people who travel miles to come here to stock up on the chocolate chip rugulah (don't think I spelled that correctly, but you get the idea).
