This review is for Kelly at DIAKADI. She is by far the best trainer I've ever worked with. Very thorough, thoughtful, and just all around great to work with. I've noticed huge changes in my overall strength and body tone in just a few months. She's even taught me to cut down drastically on my cardio and I've actually LOST weight! Kelly is a fantastic listener and unlike some trainers I've worked with in the past whose eyes wander and get distracted, she is extremely focused during our sessions, noticing every little detail in the exercise.
DIAKADI is also a great gym with plenty of space & light. Overall, a fantastic experience working with Kelly at DIAKADI! -
Review from Dave M.

I've lost over 90 pounds since I started working out at DIAKADI a little over 9 months ago.
I was one of those fat guys who was intimidated by the idea of going to the gym because (a) I live in the Castro and my image of "going to the gym" is completely skewed by that and (b) when I was a kid gym class kicked the shit out of me and made me feel like an uncoordinated loser.
Now that I've been working with trainer (and DIAKADI founder and co-owner) Billy Polson three times a week for over nine months, I dare say DIAKADI feels like home. And believe you me, I never thought I'd feel that way about a gym. Billy, co-owner Mike Clausen, all the staffers (Gina, Cristian, etc.), and other trainers *(Shelby, Lynne, etc.) have really been amazingly supportive of my journey and definitely contributed to this home-like feeling.
I really needed someone to show the ropes and develop workouts that would be the best workouts FOR ME. We kicked off in March with a 90 minute intensive, comprehensive assessment that really highlighted (for Billy and for me) my body's strengths and weaknesses, and then Billy designed my first work out based on his findiings at that assessment. Every six weeks as I progress, he designs a new workout for me, based on how well I've been doing with the previous workout. Each workout has clearly defined goals, like correcting the issues with my left hamstring/knee, overall body muscle balance, or endurance.
Bily is super-engaged and it's really amazing working with him. He watches me like a hawk and is always suggesting small corrections as I go, and is sure to tell me when I've got it exactly right. Even outside of training hours, I'll get occasional texts or emails from him, reminding me to sit properly while I'm at work or remind me about whatever "homework" I've been given, and I've really appreciated that. Makes me feel like Billy is my trainer outside those three hours a week we spend together. I really appreciate his mind-blowing attention to detail and his ability to think outside the box; that is, when something isn't working he's got a back-up plan (sometimes multiple back-up plans) ready-to-go as a work-around. I've learned so much from Billy in the last nine months...not just about fitness, but also anatomy, teaching, human behavior, relaxation and stress management, and overall wellness. He is a fountain of knowledge and always willing share it and always able to communicate it in language I understand.
I always thought that personal trainers had to be pushy, militaristic jerks like you see on "The Biggest Loser." Billy's not like that at all. He pushes, but more importantly he makes you want to push yourself. Both psychologically and philosophically, this works much better for me, as I suspected Billy figured out 5 seconds after meeting me. Based on the success I've had in meeting my goals in the last 9 months, I'd say Billy knows what he's doing. :-)
The DIAKADI facility is clean, spacious (I believe it's the largest personal training gym in the city) and there's an ample supply of citrus water, coffee/tea, almonds and fresh organic fruit available all the time. The clients seem really serious about their work, i.e. if you're looking to spend your hour in the gym socializing and not exercising, you want the gym down the street. I've told a few people I go to a "grown-up" gym because I really feel like it's full of trainers and clients who are very dedicated to a well-rounded approach to fitness and wellness. Take one look at their website and blog and you'll see what I'm talking about. On the blog you'll find posts from Billy, other trainers, and even DIAKADI partners like the nutritionists and massage therapists they work with. (And I can vouch for them, too, by the way: Sarah Koszyk and Joel Banuelos are both best-in-the-business.)
In 9 months I've lost about 15 inches of waistline and my cholesterol has plummeted over 60 points (probably more by now, I just haven't had my blood tested since September.) My blood pressure is down, my stamina is up, I'm substantially more flexible and agile, I no longer need a belt extender when I fly, my sex drive is SERIOUSLY up. What are you waiting for? No more excuses...get a trainer at DIAKADI now. -

Diakadi is hands-down one of the best gyms in the city. The facilities are amazing - up-to-date, clean, really well-maintained, and never crowded. But the best thing about this gym is really the trainers. It's the most approachable, fun, comfortable environment. Whether you're just getting back into shape or you're training for Iron Man, anyone would enjoy working out here.
I've been training there with Gavin Birmingham since January 2011. He is an AMAZING trainer. He takes the time to get to know your goals - both in and out of the gym - and then he tailors the perfect program for you.
He doesn't put you through the traditional, boring "Do X reps and we'll just keep increasing the weight" routine. No two sessions are alike. You mix many different techniques - TRX band work, plyometrics, kickboxing, jumping rope, dynamic stretching, stability ball, ab work, even a little yoga, etc.
I genuinely look forward to every single workout with Gavin. His workouts are the perfect combination of fun and hard work. He is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain the different exercises. Understanding why you're doing something and focusing on the technique can really distract you from what a challenging workout he's giving you! He is really funny and friendly, which also makes the time fly by in the gym.
I cannot say enough good things about this gym or Gavin - great environment and such an amazing trainer! -

Beauty is PAIN! But it hurts sooo good here at Diakadi Body!!
I'm not one for "new years resolutions", however mid feb. I was feeling a little out of sorts and figured I needed a jump start to a new me. (Ok I feel like I'm one of those jenny-craig commercials now).
I looked all over the internet for the best recommendations for personal trainers and Diakadi kept coming up. I called in and made an appointment to check out the facilities to see what it was all about. I was greeted by Erin who showed me the whole 9,000 sq. foot facility. Afterwards I filled out a small survey about what I was looking for in my work outs, what my goals were, what I wanted in each session, etc.
The next day I was happy to get an email from Erin with 5 trainers that seemed best to suit my needs and what I was looking for in my work outs. To be honest I felt more comfortable with a male trainer, but I was given a suggestion to work out with Catherine. I read her profile and she was EVERYTHING I was looking for in a trainer.
We made an appointment to meet and do a physical fitness test and see where I am both physically and endurance wise. We thought it best to focus of endurance, running (I've never run a day in my life and literally had to have Catherine break it down for me. Sad right? lol), kick boxing to work my upper body and arms, and a goal of -25 pounds.
I meet with Catherine twice a week and quite honestly, just with the great work outs and positive attitude that comes with my sessions honestly makes my weeks so much better. I'm eating the best I've ever had, I'm only 4 sessions in and have seen (and felt!) a significant difference in my weight and tone all around. Our workouts always kick my ass and I sweat it out like no other. But I love the vibe here. No one is just staring at you, sizing you up, and theres no judgement what so ever.
The facilities are top notch. Great equipment. The changing rooms/bathrooms are so comfortable. It's NEVER crowded here and it's so clean. Complimentary citrus water with almonds and fruit are some awesome little touches that makes this place feel more personal. Having a personal trainer is indeed a luxury, but if you have the means, the right attitude, and are up for the best you and your body have ever been - I 100% recommend Diakadi. To be honest- I dont know WHAT I've been doing before this. And I'll never leave!Listed in: Where I go to look FAB-oosh!

Diakadi is the best gym I've ever belonged to, for a bunch of reasons, and the only one I've ever gone out of my way to recommend to friends. The trainers and staff are first-rate. The equipment is varied and well-kept. The locker rooms are clean and convenient. Beyond all that, though, is the fact that you work with a trainer every time you come in. There's no "I paid for the gym today, but I didn't go" remorse that comes with your typical gym membership. I've worked with Martin Spector and Derek Johnson for more than two years, and in that time I've observed many of the other trainers. Overall, they seem to be an incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated group. Call or email and get specific trainer recommendations, based on your training style and needs. Or drop in and get a tour.

As someone who has struggled with his weight and inexperience with being active, I never thought I would find a place where I could get the right trainer, equipment, and support I'd need to discover that for myself. DIAKADI Body is that place for me.
I was introduced to Billy Polson by my nutritionist, Manuel Villacorta.
After an intake interview and tour, I was given homework right off the bat.
(I thought to myself, this IS serious!)
What I found was DIAKADI was NOT your typical fitness center. The staff and trainers are there to help you achieve YOUR goals. Billy wanted to know exactly what I wanted to achieve in my life, not just in the gym. He and I have been able to build upon a strong foundation that has enabled me to do things
I never thought possible, both inside and outside the gym.
Billy's colleagues and staff at DIAKADI have been so supportive of my journey to wellness that I can count on them now as friends, something I never expected when I walked through the doors of DIAKADI on Division Street.
I've been encouraged by the progress I've made. I never thought of myself as strong, let alone able to do the things I'd except someone who lives an active lifestyle. The workouts, using circuit training with weights and equipment, cardio exercise along with body movements and stretches have allowed me to exceed my own expectations around strength and has allowed me to drop my fear of working out on my own, which I thought I would never lose.
Working with of Manuel, Billy and the rest of the my "Dream Team" has been a life changing experience. As a result of their support and my hard work I have dropped 165 pounds. I feel like I've made a change to become the person I only dreamt of becoming. I am grateful.
I hope that if you are ready to make that first step (for me the hardest one) make sure to head over to DIAKADI. -
Review from Jared L.
This is a long review but Billy Polson of Diakadi Body can't be summed up with merely three or four words!
I've been striving to find the perfect trainer for 5 years. I've worked with trainers ranging from the standard issue Bally's trainer to the best Toronto has to offer. Mild results with uninspiring motivation.
However coming across Billy Polson of Diakadi Body has been single handedly the best experiences I've ever had. After a weekend assessment in Toronto, in May 2010, Billy has me making the biggest gains and strides towards my personal fitness goals ever. His wide breadth of knowledge and attention to even the smallest detail, have set the bar so high that no one in the past or ( I will be bold enough to say) future can compare. Billy tapped into my mindset as soon as we started the assessment. Talking about past trainers, experiences positive and negative, limitations and injuries(knee joint, hip flexor, tennis elbow. severe neck injury). Billy was attentive, applied what seemed to be a catalog of never ending knowledge concerning my body's strengths and weaknesses.
Billy took me through movements/exercises I thought I had mastered, and pointed out compensations and imbalances within my body. i.e. Relying on that one good leg a little more or left trap a little more. Creating not only visual imbalances, but also structural (fallen foot arches, postural deviations). Through a few basic body weight squats he pointed out, and I saw for the first time, that my quads and knees face two different angles. A result of relying only on my good side performing squats. I admit was miffed at learning this! How could 7 different trainers miss this, let alone me.
Nothing couldn't be solved or worked around. Billy was digging in and finding tendons and tight deep muscle, relaxing the worst of it and showing me how to do it for myself.
Within hours of the assessment I had a checklist of the things I should be watching out for while working out and while doing daily activities.
A day later I had a thorough exercise program to work with. None of it was just exercises thrown down on paper! Every warm up, exercise and stretch had me and my well being in forefront. I was given an online account to view and track my program. Each stretch and exercise comes with a detailed explanation, a high quality how to video, as well as still photos to print and take with you to the gym. Billy is great at easily adapting each exercise to equipment available at my gym. Workarounds are instantaneous and by the next workout whatever needs to change has! Repeating aggravated injuries have been quickly sidelined.
Although the distance (4237km or 2633miles) between us is ridiculously far, the weekly skype chat allow us to talk about the week's workouts and progress or problems that may arise.
As for motivation, not only is Billy passionate about his work, he instills his enthusiasm in you. You strive to show him you are moving towards your goals. Logging every workout online is simple and gives you a simple workout log to look back on. Empty workout log =empty results.
One of the biggest gains was having someone to finally point out the ideal posture for me, it took years to learn the wrong posture so it's a constant thing to remember but it is coming along and people already take note.
It's been two months of Billy and I find myself barely able to wait for my rest days to pass to get back in the gym! Billy is nothing but pure training brilliance, the type of person I recommend to anyone who is serious about finally getting the most out of their body. Thank you Billy for igniting mine! -

Diakadi is amazing. I had the best summer ever working out there. It was always worth the drive from Santa Cruz to use the state of the art machines, the turf, see the trainers and rest of the staff and use the clean locker room. Since I've left it almost a month ago there's not a day that goes by I think of how wonderful the gym and trainers are. There's so much to do there and so many training options yet the trainers know how work specifically to your own needs and the needs of your specific sport. Even though you work with one trainer, the other trainers encourage and congratulate on your progress.
I've tried a new gym since and of course use the school gym but those aren't even a fraction of what Diakadi has created. Diakadi really makes a safe and warm place to work out! I miss it!
The trainer I had was great but I also did Billy and mike's outdoor work outs and although I hate the stair runs, I'm so grateful for those workouts. In just 4 months I felt amazing progress. -

The absolute best thing about Diakadi for me is my trainer, Callum Keith-King. He's basically like a trainer from the future. He can help you master Olympic lifting (he's one of the few people I would trust with this) and then he can turn around and do yoga with you. Callum can help you do anything from putting on muscle to getting back from an injury. He gets 10 out of 5 stars from me! I've been training with him for 2 years.
In general, Diakadi is a great place to workout if you like working with a trainer and like having a chill low-key workout place as opposed to a packed commercial Gym. The place is super clean, super organized and offers great perks like lockers with locks. -

If you would like someone to decimate your self esteem, work out with Caitlyn. If you're lucky, she'll consistently remind you you'll never be able to accomplish your fitness goals without her, all the while pointing out your flaws with a smile on her face.
Awful, awful experience. -

I am still training at Diakadi from time to time, although my schedule doesn't permit regular workouts. It's still the best gym in SF.
I saw the one star review and asked the manager about it. She said they first tried finding this person in their scheduled client list. He didn't exist under the name he posted on Yelp.
Then, she tried contacting this person, and even offered to make amends for the "problems" he supposedly had with Luis. Unfortunately, he never responded to her message.
I know Diakadi well, and they would never push someone to work harder than medically advised by a doctor. Also, it's hard to believe anyone would be snide at Diakadi, with the professionalism they've shown me over the past year.
If this person wants to contact the manager of the gym, she's more than happy to discuss the matter. -

My trainer just defected to Diakadi Body from one of those other ubiquitous gyms. I followed him there, and I could not be happier.
The best thing about Diakadi Body, as opposed to other gyms, is that only people who are working with trainers can use the facilities. This means no waiting for machines or weights, EVER. All the equipment is state-of-the-art and meticulously maintained, and the locker rooms/bathrooms are spotless.
Some of the other reasons I love Diakadi Body:
- They supply towels
- Locks are provided for all lockers
- Fresh fruit and lemon/lime water is yours for the taking
- The bathrooms are stocked with clean flip-flops for the shower, lotion, shampoo, hair product, razors, cotton swabs, etc.
- The staff is very friendly
- Parking is never a problem
I wish I could give Diakadi Body more than 5 stars. Highly, highly recommended. -

This is the best personal training facility in San Francisco. The staff is super friendly and the service and amenities are wonderful.
Thanks to my trainer, nate miyaki, I dropped 8% of my body fat in about 6 months and have a goal to drop 3 more in the next 2 months.
Nate is a superb trainer, who helps with weight training, flexibility and nutrition. He works with whatever your goals are and can help you to set stretch goals and realize them. Thanks for the new six pack, Nate!
The other trainers, owners and staff are also very friendly and helpful. The weights and machines are all new and the space is lofty, light filled, clean and designed just for personal training.
Although I work mostly with weights, there are a variety of different kinds of trainings that go on here, from softball to triathlete, and with a variety of cutting edge methods, from TRX to slide board.
The locker room is like a spa with nice clean showers, lockers that have their own locks (seems silly, but this is sometimes a pain in the ass at other places), sandals to wear in the locker room, and nice soap shampoo and hair products.
All in all, you get very tough and cutting edge personal training in a cool spa like location.
I rated this place because they deserve it, but never try to take my time slot.Listed in: 5 MuthaFunkin Stars, My Body Thanks You

I will admit something I still think is kind of sad because it galvanized me into this fabulous body I now have. Toward the end of last summer, I was sitting on my laptop, home after work, working on the couch, with the TV on... tuned to Bravo. It was watching "Workout" that made me consider seeing a trainer, specifically at a private gym. A Google search later, I'd discovered Diakadi (and that's what led me to Caitlyn Allen, whom I really credit in this transformation). I emailed hesitantly, admitting to my lack of experience or fitness goals. They were great help in pairing me with an appropriate trainer, and it's truly changed my life.
When I started with Caitlyn, I was unhappy with my body, uncomfortable in my body, had knee issues, wrist issues, little strength or stamina, and I was shy about starting any sort of athletic regime at a gym, since my assumptions were that they're sweaty, smelly, full of muscle-y people showing off and knowing what they're doing --plus there's the other fact that I just knew I wouldn't stick with it if I didn't have someone there to disappoint. Heh.
I tried kickboxing at Gorilla Sports (Bally) a few years ago, but that's the only comparison I have in regards to facilities. They don't even compare.
I can't say enough good about Caitlyn. She's been incredibly supportive, informative & knowledgable, versatile, she listens but pushes, and together, we've changed my lifestyle to include an actual desire to maintain the fitness I've achieved. I've gained body awareness, strength, stability, balance; my injuries are stabilized; I eat better. All the goals I didn't have (that she help me set) have been achieved. I don't cringe when I head to the dressing room (while shopping, which is rare in itself) anymore, and I don't spend my post-work evenings on the couch on the laptop in front of the TV.
A note that the price totally freaked me out at first, but I'm confident it's a worthy investment. I feel great in my body, strong, hot, and it's awesome! Thank you, Caitlyn. Thanks, Diakadi! -

I highly recommend both Ryan Allen and Diakadi's. I've been working out with Ryan and he is really, really great. He's patient, attentive, and knowledgeable. If you are committed to getting into the best shape of your life, the combination of Ryan and Diakadi's will get you there. The gym is immaculate and very well run by the manager, Gina. The staff is friendly and professional.

This place totally rocks.
Their mantra is "Do It All, Kick Ass Doing It" -- get it D.I.A.K.A.D.I. ?
Excellent personal trainers, no crowds policy, clean uncluttered layout and all the right equipment. People are serious and here to train - no attitudes, meat markets, etc.
Thanks to my trainer David, at almost 40 I'm now in better shape than 20. -

WOW this place is so clean, I feel like I'm at the spa- not a gym.
It smells like cucumber and lemons, instead of smelly boys.
bubbye 24 hour fitness.
Wouldnt you go to the gym more if you knew that you wouldnt have to deal with crowds, fighting for parking, dirty showers, broken equipment, and people leaning on machines, pretending to be using them? I know I would.Listed in: Glamourize

I went to Diakadi to workout with my trainer/friend, Dave Robinson. 5 stars for Dave! He's cool, positive and most importantly, doesn't mind when I give him dirty looks when he pushes for more reps.
I'm not a gym person but I like Diakadi. They have a lot of "stuff" to workout on. Plus, it's spacious with a lot of light and parking isn't bad. It's clean here too. I like that fact that it's just trainers with their trainees so there aren't a bunch of distractions or superfluous people.
They have a bunch of trainers available. I'm sure you'll meet someone that fits your needs. However, I recommend Dave! (Oh yeah, Dave showed me a few exercises that made my back pain disappear!!!) -

Oh I miss this gym. I went there last year to work out with Shelby, and by far she is the most amazing trainer in the world. She did stuff that I had never tried before, even though it was all new, I never felt like it was too hard yet all of my muscles were working..........she is easy to talk to and works with what you personally really want to achieve. She also knows how to push you to your limits.
In addition,
-the gym is never crowded as everyone there is working with a personal trainer (there are a few members who go to workout but they have limited times they can go)
-free water, and cookies and fruit at the front desk
-locker rooms are clean, all the lockers have locks, and they provide towels
-machines are all new and there is never a wait
-they have a pilates room
-it never smells like ass
-when you walk in, the receptionist actually looks at you says hi and knows your name!
If I had a choice, I would never go back to 24 Hour Fitness..........I would stick with this place. But due to distance and time constraints, I am stuck with 24 Hour Fitness and the smelly dirty feeling there............ -

My review is for Albert Joval who is our trainer for my wife and I. I'm currently training for triathlons and wanted to try a different approach for foundation fitness. Let's just say I'm seeing a big difference not only in my triathlon training but my overall general fitness. Albert not only knows every exercise known to man but also has PERFECT form demonstrating it. He will consult with you about your goals and tailors your workouts to reach those goals. His style of motivation is gentle yet is able to push your body past the comfort zone for satisfying results. He'll even help assess problem areas, injuries and weaknesses you have. If flexibility is a problem, he'll help with stretches. It's been a great experience working out with Albert.
PS: the gym is nice, clean and friendly too! -

Years of feeling like a lazy slug slowing oozing guilt sucks. I plan on moving into my 4th decade looking and feeling better than I did when I was a chubby teenager and slacker adult. I've been on and off a low carb diet for the past three years or so with decent results, but it's just too hard to stay on it and the weight is creeping back. I hate working out! In fact, I'm writing this review while I'm procrastinating hitting the gym. Yes, paying someone to put me through the paces while I'm whining away like a spoiled brat baby seems silly. But after a month, I'm happy with the results - my formerly atrophied muscles are beginning to support the extra energy I'm feeling.
Caitlyn Allen is an awesome, upbeat trainer with loads of experience, patience, and knowledge - great for those with chronic back and knee pain and alignment/balance issues. She challenges me every hour I spend with her without being annoying. The facility is spacious, clean, and mellow with lots of equipment options to improve endurance, strength and flexibility. -

It was November... and I was getting nervous about those dreaded holiday pounds. In an effort to fight it head on, I joined a gym and they hooked me up with Doug Burgner, aka BEST TRAINER EVER. I trained with him at my gym until he left to train on his own at Diakadi.
Now... I'm not good with change... so when he left my gym for Diakadi, I did the freak. What would the equipment be like? Is Diakadi as nice as my other gym? Do they have nice smelling soap? How about hairspray? Is it convenient? Ah!
Thankfully, this place rocks. It's central, right off the highway, and I have no issues parking my car. Let me repeat, I can park my car with no problem. Heck, I even enjoy a nice trader joe's run after my workouts from time to time! (And if you feel like you worked our especially hard, you can hit up the taco truck next to Best Buy afterwards. I won't tell if you don't.)
There are other friendly faces at Diakadi, too. Dorina at the front desk always knows my name, so I feel like a regular. Billy and Mike, the owners, are super nice. And the other trainers are pretty bad-ass too. The facilities are great- never crowded and super clean. And let's not forget about the raw almonds, fresh fruit, and citrus water. Yum-o!
Back to Doug - he is reason enough to go to Diakadi. I'm 5'1 and have dropped at least two sizes since indulging on turkey and mashed potatoes last November. I've never looked better, and although I've worked hard, it's been fun the entire time. Doug keeps things fresh and he finds a nice balance between kicking your butt and having hilarious laugh-out-loud moments. It's never boring and I'm always a little sad when my session is over (those post-workout endorphin rushes are amazing).
So go... try Diakadi out... try Doug out. It is convenient, it saves you money and time, and ultimately you get some ridiculous results. -

I have been training with Billy at Diakadi for 3 years now....The gym is great for working "outside the box" There are showers which are helpful for the pre work -workout. The place is super clean, has tons of traditional and non traditional equipment which really aid in working out. The astroturf grass is also cool and fun for running.
Also- the desk staff is always super nice and helpful. Parking is a breeze. If you want a workout which will raise your game- head to Diakadi! -

Love it. It's super clean, including the equipment, the floor, the locker room, everything. No one's perfect and everyone's working with a personal trainer. It makes for a stress-free environment. The music choices are great and not overbearing. The free essence waters and fruit are a plus, as well.
All in all, this is how gyms should be, if you're really there to work your ass off. -

I love this place: high level of customer service, individual attention, cutting edge machines and the rest of the patrons are even nice too.
My trainer, Shelby Jacquez, is awesome. She listens attentively, recommends articulately and never makes me do the same work-out twice. She's funny, interesting and has given me the one thing I could never get: GUNS. All I wanted for xmas was GUNS and now I have them! -

I'm in the best shape of my life thanks to my trainer, Tom Armenta. He helped me to lose over 25lbs, which I've kept of for two years. I feel healthy, strong, and vibrant. I now have the body I've always dreamed of, and I know that wouldn't have been possible without him.
He is definitely the BEST trainer in San Francisco! Tom designs my workouts with my goals in mind so I can maximize my results. His workouts are always fun, engaging, and push me to my limits. Throughout my workout he keeps me motivated by encouraging me "keep going, you're doing great". Hearing those words helps me to do that last pushup that I wasn't sure I could do.
Tom is very friendly and easy to talk to. He is also extremely knowledgable about all aspects of fitness and nutrition. He's coached me on how to improve my eating habits and how to work out between our sessions so that I can get even more results.
I highly recommend Tom no matter what your fitness goals, he'll help you to get there. -

I starting working out a Diakadi because of reading reviews here on Yelp. And It has been a great experience. From the woman who took my initial information over the phone, to the manager who helped me figure out what kind of trainer would fulfill my needs, to my trainer himself.
Jator Pierre-Gonzalez is incredibly well-educated about the body, how it works, and how to streamline it and get it to work efficiently. During our sessions, he is completely focused on me, my form, and my goals. He is not the kind of trainer who chats, watches you run on the treadmill, and just counts reps. This guy takes his job SERIOUSLY! And his job is to teach you how to use and inhabit your body in the best way possible. Check out his website: http://www.evolutionpe....
I know it sounds like I've drunk some sort of koolaid -- but finally getting motion from a stiff shoulder and seeing some actual definition in my back, not to mention that incredibly sweaty but satisfied post-workout daze, can do that to you. -

I have been working out with Tom Armenta at Diakadi Body for the past several months. He is an awesome trainer. I have had some other trainers in the past and no matter what gym they all seemed to do the same circuit of machines and free weights. There is nothing common about the workout Tom has me do. His workouts push my limits and challenge me and my preconceived ideas of my abilities.
I am doing so much more than when I started and my friends have noticed the difference in how I look. And that is great and it is all to Tom's credit as a trainer.
Diakadi Body is a great space for working out. I have had trainers at other gyms and it is hell getting time on machines when the gym is packed. At Diakadi they have a great policy that keeps the gym from getting overcrowded. Everything is clean and the facility is great.
Tom Armenta and Diakadi are the perfect combination to work you out! -

Are you REALLY READY to get yourself into shape, be confronted by both physical and mental obstacles, and get to know yourself and your own body at a WHOLE NEW LEVEL that you've never EVER thought of before??
Then get ready to get SERIOUS with yourself with CHELSEA P at one of the most professional, modern, and serious places to train your body - Diakadi.
This incredible trainer, Chelsea, will safely, with full positive support, and with a wealth of knowledge, be with you every step of the way as both she and you will learn and address ALL areas of your body - weaknesses AND strengths. Her passion lies in helping YOU IMPROVE all areas of physical condition, no matter if you've never joined a gym or if you're a seasoned triathlete.
I have had several personal trainers over the many years in both San Francisco and New York City, and by far, Chelsea is absolutely at the top of what it means to not only represent the best of the best in this profession, but also in encompassing humility as she herself continues to constantly be eager to learn new things - new knowledge, new ways of movement, new ways of teaching, or even new ways of personally relating to her clients.
I will say that for the past 5 years I have been with Chelsea, I NEVER, EVER got bored of ANY of her workouts, nor did I EVER predict what she would pull out next in her bag of tricks that consistently gets renewed. Yet, ALL her decisions and directions in training will come full circle - All movements/exercises are still related, and like a novel or a symphonic piece of music, they will all somehow come together and make sense (mentally and kinestheically), and you will be blown away by such brilliance this amazing person encompasses.
Whoever would think a personal trainer could be such a powerful force in one's life? I wouldn't have thought so. Until I met Chelsea. Give yourself the wonderful gift of challenging and celebrating your abilities, capabilities, and possibilities. Remember, in the end it does ALL have to come from within YOU. And with her, you will amaze yourself.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Love Diakadi - best gym and training around. Lynne Anderson rocks - she will push hard but never too far, and she "gets" women's self confidence and body issues. It's great that there is a different work out every time although she always has me go through the same warm up routine so I don't injure myself. The results are great - although I do need a little extra ibuprofen here and there. That's a GOOD thing!
The gym is spotless and the locker rooms very nice. They have all the extra amenities you need to be comfortable (snacks like fruit, hair rubber bands, razors, nice fluffy clean white towels). Parking is free and a block away so no need to park in the street if you don't want to. The open gym access is a nice touch so you can sneak in a session or two on your own.
Call or email and they will help hook you up with a trainer who is right for you. Interview the person and ask key questions so that the match is right. It's not cheap but this is your HEALTH we're talking ...the best preventative medicine is to be physically and mentally healthy. Diakadi will help you reach this new inner and outer wellness and the financial investment is truly worth it. -

I've been going here for a year now and don't see myself stopping any time soon! I've never been a huge fan of the gym, but this place is great.
The trainers focus on their clients and your workout is all about YOU. Time isn't wasted waiting for machines, weights, etc. and if someone is using the equipment you'd like to use...your trainer does all the awkward "can we use this?" talking. If you're looking for a place that's clean, semi-private, with respectful clientele, and friendly environment, then this is definitely for you. -

Everything I'd compliment has been said here: quality service, super nice space, the best and most innovative equipment, not cruisy just serious about getting the workout done.
I've been a member of other gyms and even gone to a "trainer/client" gym in the past - none of them has this level of quality, cleanliness and service.
I highly recommend working out with a trainer there simply is no workout like it and the ower, Billy, has done a fantastic job of putting all the key elements together for the best workout possible.Listed in: The Places I Go Out

I have been working out at Diakadi for about 4 months now with a trainer named Ashley Selman. She is great and so is the gym. It's not crowded and they are on top of all the newest equipment.
the only downer is you need to be working out with a trainer to be a member, but that's great for me because I am there with a trainer!!! -

I loved Diakadi's boot camp this June. I suspect that I did not really fit their target customer, as this was my first real foray back into fitness after having a baby. I was definitely a little worried when I turned up and saw all the fit dudes, but Billy and Mike were super friendly and helpful instructors. They even gave me homework and seemed to understand the challenges I was facing as a new mom (um, NO abdominal strength whatsoever!).
Hope they make it over to my new hood with a Golden Gate Park location this Fall! -

I've been training for three years at Diakadi and had the most bad-ass results. It's my favorite gym in SF, and I've been a member of Crunch, World, and Club One. I still dilly dally with Cross Fit and TRX classes, but the core of my routine is here. Fresh fruit, nice equipment, and it's never swamped like at other gyms. The trainer I work with, Shawn Touissant, puts an incredible amount of thought and effort into planning each workout, and listens carefully to my fitness goals. He helped me gain 20 lbs of mass and still run the Dipsea foot race in my first year, and then reduce body fat to 8% in the second year, with the goal of completing five free-standing handstand push-ups (still working on that).

I love "my" gym, and I call it "my" gym at this point because everything is personal. It's like Cheers without the beer, "everyone knows your name." The great experience starts when I walk in the door and the person at the front desk says, "Hi Becky." The locker rooms have every personal amenity you can think, including hair ties for us ladies. The training I get from Aaron is very personalized to me, but more about that below. I take the Friday lunch time pilates, Michelle is awesome, knows my name, and usually helps me modify a move or two form\ my skill level. But one of my favorite things are the bowls of fruit placed all around the gym, I always grab an apple on my way out.
Aaron Dence is my trainer and he is awesome. He picks workouts so I don't get bored and burn out. If I tell him something was fun he brings it back, if I tell him I felt ridiculous he will usually modify the move so that I get the same result but without the ridiculous felling. But he will remind me no one is looking, and they usually aren't. He guides me in what to do when I come in on Saturday on my own. It's been 2-3 months and I am seeing, but more importantly feeling the great results.
But the best thing about coming here is that everyone is training with a trainer. They are paying the money, so they aren't there to pick up on you or just gawk at you. There are people of every different skill level, and the trainers are always pushing them to the limit. My favorite line I have heard was another trainer telling a women at a similar age and ability as myself, "OK, now don't puke on me." -

I'm getting married and have been working with David Spinrad at Diakadi body to get my ass in shape and the results have been AMAZING!
Dave Spinrad is an AWESOME personal trainer and an amazing person/friend on top of that. When I first started going to Diakadi, I was a sluggy lump -- overweight, lacked strength, had low energy, and had no muscle definition. As a former college, athelete, I had let myself get pathetically out of shape.
Working with Dave, I have literally sculpted a new body for myself. My sister said "things have moved around in a GREAT way." Dave worked with me on nutrition in combination with fitness -- super creative and fun exercise routines to achieve the results. I would even say that I look forward to my workouts - for serious - don't tell Dave I said that. He has also taught me exercises I can do on my own so I'm not super reliant on him for my fitness. And most importantly, he has taught me to appreciate my body and it's capabilities and to ultimately meet and surpass my GOALS. And NOT to be hard on myself, but to be positive.
When I first met with Dave, I was super nervous about working with a personal trainer but knew I needed to get a better fitness/health routine.
I did not foresee the positive impact it would have on my entire life-style. The hour we spend whizzes by, sometimes I wish it was longer. No joke.
Dave designed workouts that pushed (and continue to push) my physical abilities - which I credit for the results I've had. He closely monitors my form and motivates me to power thru every set - even when I want to quit.
I have been working out with Dave for about four months now and I am constantly receiving compliments on how great I look -it's enough for a girl to grow an ego -- even the guy that runs the parking garage at work commented.
Because of my workouts with David, I am on track to achieve my goal of losing 20 pounds before my wedding. At my first wedding dress fitting a few weeks ago, my dress was literally falling off of me. THAT WAS THE BEST FEELING. Inches needed to be taken-in the waste, hips and torso.
I have lost both pounds and inches most noticable in my waist and hips and tummy. My muscles have great definition - I am embarrassed to admit I flex in front of the mirror - my arms have never looked this good.
I look forward to my workouts - both the actual workout and the high I get after. And I'm certain I will take what I'm learning now and apply it to my health for the rest of my life. I am proud of my body now - and had not been in a long while. Honestly the best money I've spent in a long, long time! -

Fabulous!!! I love working out here because well I work out, and I work IT out!!! I always feel like I've accomplished something when I leave. I love that it's very clean, not crowded and not a place where everyone is checking you out. I agree with other yelpers...friendly, great envirnoment, clean, stress-free and results are great. If you want a great workout and want some one to kick your ass, this is the place.

Caitlyn is an AMAZING trainer. I completely disagree with Laura. I've been seeing her for almost 3 months and wow I have lost some inches.
*She gets you the results that you want. She pushes you, even when you think you cannot be pushed.
*My first session with Caitlyn was reviewing goals I set for myself to accomplish.
*I love how she takes notes on each activity we do during the workout.
*She educates me on nutrition which helps me with my energy level through out the day. I now know the right types of snacks to eat, and I don't need to rely on coffee at 3 in the afternoon anymore!
*She is informative and knowledgeable
Diakadi Body fitness center is also great.
*Super clean
*Great staff
*Always have great music to sing to during the workout
*Locker rooms to stash your stuff with locks.
*Showers which they provide you with towels and shower sandals
*Always parking available on the street -

I have been training with Darwin for over a year now at Diakadi and have gotten great results and made progress in areas that I didn't even know I needed to make progress in- or would be possible to do in middle age. Although I was a regular gym goer prior to coming here, I have achieved a lot more with Darwin's help. The facility is great, the staff friendly- but not distracting. Having used person trainers a few times in the past this has been my best experience- what I especially like about Darwin is he knows how much to push and doesn't let chatter get in the way of the work out. I highly recommend it and as far as cost goes it beats therapy.
