Category: Self Storage [Edit]
Neighborhood: Near West SideFYI - this used to be a U-Stor-It, but now it's under new management and called Devon Self Storage.
I stored my 1 bedroom apartment's worth of stuff here for the summer. The location is pretty convenient, as it's right next to a truck rental place. There's a small parking lot in front and tons of room for trucks near the loading docks in back. The employees who helped me were always nice.
My main issue with this place is that they don't prorate. So if you pay for all of September so you don't get kicked out, and have to close your account September 7 (like I did)... you're screwed! But thanks to YELP, you can learn from Allison's mistake.
Another thing to be aware of: The storage building was a warehouse or factory in a former life. For urban decay dorks like me it means cool industrial things to look at. But on a more practical level, it also means dirty wooden floors and a very particular smell. Be sure to protect all of your belongings, or they'll pick up grime from the floors, a lovely reminder of their time in storage. Also, after 3 months here, some of my stuff retained a faint whiff of smoke for a little while. If this bothers you, be sure to pack things up dilligently, or just find storage elsewhere.
