332 Washington StOH MY GOD THE PATIO. It's amazing. A little oasis tucked away off the street and a perfect place to linger over dinner and a bottle of wine. Sparkly white lights, fragrant plants and even a WATERFALL make this a place I want to spend all my summer nights. I almost don't want to tell everyone about it so I can keep it to myself. Only downside is that last call for the patio is about 10:30 PM and I want to stay out there all night long.

If there is one thing i know it's good food. And Devlin's have good food. I went here by chance with my mother when i was visiting my sister in Boston College. She has been ranting and raving about this Devlins place and we finally got to go. And boy was it amazing. The staff are super friendly and efficient. The only downside is that I didn't have room for dessert. The perfect calamari and delicious BLT filled me to the brim but i will have to make room the next time. Check it out guys, it's worth it!!!

EAT HERE!!! Went to this little piece of heaven for some lunch several weeks ago with a friend and loved it so much I went back for brunch and dinner. Brunch is such an experience - there is a live jazz band!!! And dinner has such a good atmosphere. The service is fantastic. The staff get you what you need and want when you need it but give you enough time and space so that you don't feel like they are trying to get rid of you. Really cool. And they have these fabulous themed nights - i made it in for pasta monday. The choices are never ending....
Yesterday, I ate a Cobb salad at Devlin's and I immediately became sick. The egg in the salad tasted like it had been sitting in a bowl with fruit. The greens were wilted, and the blue cheese dressing was soupy. I ate only a few bites of it, and my usually-iron stomach began to clench. After vomiting, I spent the rest of the day in bed. I will never visit Devlin's again.
I can't believe Devlin's isn't yelped already - that's insane! This place is to Brighton Center what Sunset is to Allston Village! Okay, perhaps that's a bad analogy, but Devlin's is awesome. They have pasta night, trivia night (with cash prizes, none of that gift certificate crap), and a jazz brunch.
I haven't actually eaten here yet, but it's just an excellent hangout.

Is this really the meal I get for $10? Yeah, it's delicious, but this really isn't a lot of food.
I read the reviews before going here and noted that the service could be hit-or-miss. Well, today it really was a miss. The servers forgot about us due to a "section mix-up", and forgot two of our beers due to the good old "We're changing the keg" excuse. Maybe they really were changing the keg, but as a server I know that was a pretty good excuse to use when you simply forgot about the beers. On the good side, $4.75 for a draft of Harpoon isn't bad.

Went on a date here about a month ago with my now girlfriend. I was so nervous but devlin's really relaxed me straight off. I arrived early and had 2 beers, chatting with the friendly barman all the while. She turned up then and we very luckily got a booth. We had appetizers and entrees all of which were delicious. According to my date they make the best mojitos she has ever tasted. Meal and coffee complete (with the help of our really friendly Irish server) we went to the bar area and chatted the night away. We are still seeing each other and have returned to devlins for brunch and lunch several times, and have never been disappointed. You HAVE to check out brunch on a sunday morning with the live jazz band! And guys a little tip.....if ye are going on a date bring her here, it has the feel of a really classy joint but the check won't break the bank for you.... I will definitely be going back again. And again. And again.
As a student I don't have a huge amount of money to spend but I like to treat myself as well. Myself and my friend decided to go to Devlin's for dinner last night and it was PERFECT. Service, food, beer....all of it was awesome. And reasonable too. And there was this cool trivia night going on too with cash prizes. Genius! Go here. Try it. You won't regret it. And check out the AMAZING patio out the back. Beautiful!
Devlin's is always my go to place. Though sometimes the service is mediocre, it is usually when it is busy and thats somewhat understandable. The butternut squash ravioli with sage butter sauce is to die for. No really, it is on my list of last meal dishes. So listen up Devlin's- keep that on the menu year round!
I have spent many special occasions here, but also those nights where you just need a frosty beverage and are too lazy to go home. The patio is one of my favorites in Boston. Though they need to get a better soundtrack. And it looks like they might be adding a bar outside this summer?!
I've been to Devlin's a few times and I do like quite a bit. The service is VERY inconsistent sometimes it is great and other times it is darn close to inexcusable. The food is pretty good and they are one of the best patios in the city. I loved it because when I did smoke I could smoke there. The menu needs to change a bit more frequently and they need to better train their servers. It's be awesome too if they'd hire a decent pastry chef so they could offer some really great desserts. All in all though I have never been too disappointed to return and will return again. They have an EXCELLENT Bloody Mary. Just make sure you ask them to make it extra spicy.
Devlin's is good for dinner, I had a salmon dish and it was very tasty, but excellent for brunch.
I always order french toast with extreme trepidation. I have been on the receiving end of soggy, eggy, squishy slices of bread one too many times. So even though my roommate assured me it was good, I was a bit skeptical. But Devlin's eradicated my fears! The french toast was delicious! And not remotely soggy. The service was also really good despite being a fairly busy time. Aside from the french toast, I also ordered a Bloody Mary which was great. Nice and spicy like I wanted.
I would hit Devlin's for dinner again and I would definitely go there for brunch.
I think this bar is totally fun! I have been for dinner, brunch and just drinks.
Dinner: Went for a friends b-day party. The service was great! We never waited for drinks, and as more people showed they kept adding tables to our area to accomodate everyone. I split a few things with a friends. The baked mac and cheese was A-MAZING! It had hunks of crab meat and bacon in it....sooooo good! We also split a blue cheese stuffed steak. This was great too, it came with asparagus and mashed potatoes....not the healthiest meal, but literally out of this world! There was more than enough food for two of us...and we shared everything with the table.
Brunch: It was pretty good. I got an omlette which they had no problem chnaging from the one on the menu to what I wanted. It was huge and came with fruit and homefries. Our server once again was great.
Drinks: I have been out here a few times, but one times sticks in my mind. Very random night, there was a b-day party going on. We had a cocktail waitress who was awesome. I ordered some blueberry drink off thier special drink menu. The first one I had came in a small glass or normal size glass. I ordered a second one and it was served in a pint glass! It was huge and definitly did the job!
I have no complaints...this place is great! I wish it got a little more packed at night. The prices are decent for what your getting and service is always good.
If you are dying for a great semi-upscale brunch on the weekends you must try Devlin's. I highly recommend the eggs benny. I've had it twice and both times the poached eggs have been a little on the well done side but the hollandaise sauce makes it. They serve fresh fruit with every every item which is always crisp and delicious. I love sitting out on the sunny patio out back and soaking up the sun. It's secluded from the street so it feels like you are somewhere else besides Brighton Ctr. Great for brunch with friends
I have been to Devlin's several times as I live in the area and it's just so easy to walk to a restaurant rather than hop on the T or drive. Other than that, I'm not really sure why I keep coming back. I have noticed that other reviewers have posted that the service is hit-or-miss. In all the times that I've gone, I must have been there on miss nights. The waitstaff is not very attentive and pretty slow. I once ordered the Spinach and Portobella Pizza. Unfortunately, the meal that came out was the Spinach and Portobella appetizer... after I already had an appetizer. She apologized and told me my meal would be out right away... fifteen minutes later I finally got my meal. And she charged me for the pizza and not the appetizer. I would think a nice gesture if she couldn't comp my meal for the mistake would be to charge me for the lesser priced meal she brought out. And speaking of the food, that's not really fantastic either. The arugala salad is good as is their pizza. The prime rib was overcooked and the bruschetta is just weird (who uses goat cheese??). I also don't like how the bar area is only sectioned off from the restaurant by a half wall. Around 9pm the dancemusic kicks up in the bar and it gets pretty loud. If you're looking for a romantic place or a place to actually talk to your fellow diners, you should probably go on the earlier side. I haven't eaten out on the patio but it looks nice.
I had been to Devlins a bunch of times for drinks so I decided recently it was time to check out their food which I had eyed up many a time on past visits!!! Boy am I glad I did! We had tenders to start which were great...came wit a selection of dips....usually tenders can be very greasy but these were crisp with juicy chicken inside!!!! I had the Lamb Chop special and to be honest I think its one of the best dishes I've ever had! Their were 5 cutlets which straight off the bat made my boyfriend happy (meant he got to have one )..it was cooked just as i had ordered, overall the dish was amazing (def order if you ever see it on) My boyfriend had the salmon and it was equally delicious. It came wit a mango salsa that complimented the fish superbly. We were both too stuffed to try dessert but after the previous dishes I'm sure it would have been awesome! I like the modern decor (its always super clean) and their patio looks great!!(Havent sat out there yet) The staff are always friendly and attentive and on this past visit the bartender, Seamus even asked if we'd have the usual...how cool is that! Devlins has really grown on me and now after having eaten there I'm glad to share my experience with fellow yelpers!!! Its def worth a trip if you haven't been...Check it out!!!!

I spent an evening here for a friend's birthday and had a nice time. They have a good beer selection, and nice dark ambiance, and it's also around the block, basically, from where my boyfriend lives, so it's not too hard to get home. I'd have to go again for a more definitive review, but from what I've noted, it's a solid spot. Good show. Also have to love that they randomly had Michigan hockey on the screen. Above average!

As I was getting ready to go to Devlin's, I asked a couple of friends of mine how it was. I got an "It's perfectly adequate" and an "It's decent". After going there, I'd agree. There is nothing wrong with Devlin's. And that's about all I could say about it.
The lighting in the dining area was just a shade too dim, and the noise from the bar was just a bit too loud, but neither were enough to bother me. The service was fine. The prices were fair. But that's about it.
Food-wise, I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't impressed. The caesar salad didn't have much dressing on it, but I ate it. The grilled chicken and jack cheese pizza was a bit too oily, and blobs of sour cream and guacamole sat on top. Still, I had three slices and thought it was tasty enough. I also tried the Maine crab macaroni and cheese and while it was enjoyable, I couldn't find any crab (of note, I cooked up some chicken sausage and tossed it into the leftovers... it was a good decision).
Overall, you could walk into Devlin's, eat a meal, walk out full and not remember a thing about it when you were done. In other words, there's nothing wrong with Devlin's. But I doubt it would be anyone's favorite place in Brighton.

Let me start in reverse. The minute we left Devlin's I declared that I liked it, but probably wouldn't be dying to go back anytime soon. That said, I did really enjoy it. The ambiance is really nice, sort of like a faux-upscale bar (and by that I mean not pretentious) with nice tables for small parties and big booth seats for larger groups. The ceilings are high, the whole place is really nicely lit, and the room is divided by these huge archway cutouts draped with luxurious curtains.
They serve two types of bread (crunchy flatbread and a warm foccacia type bread) with this very creamy roasted veggie hummus. It was good, I really wanted to ask for more (just for the hummus) but didn't. I tried the caesar salad which was big and hearty, pretty standard. For dinner I ordered the grilled chicken and jack cheese pizza. It was tasty, there was a lot of cheese though and was plated with sporadic blobs of sour cream and guacamole on it. I wished it was more cohesive. I also had french fries which were very good, golden and crunchy. I tried the baked maine crab macaroni and cheese which had bacon and a butter cracker topping to die for (that was the best part, believe it or not).
Service was really good. Parking could be a bear but I scored a spot directly in front of the restaurant. Those two things definitely came in to play with my 3 star rating as this place is pretty standard fare.

I'm so torn --
On one hand I thoroughly enjoy the cocktails at Devlin's, the moody atmosphere, the bread & p.e.i mussels appetizer and the proximity to my house is a huge plus.
On the other hand, pretty much the entire menu is over-priced, the bar space is non-existent, the dance music on Friday night makes me want to wear ear plugs and the service kinda sucks.
Thus I have come to the conclusion that this is a good date place and would happily go again if a cute boy asked me out and then finish off the evening at the Last Drop for more drinks. :)

UPDATE: Went for brunch this weekend. While the food is good, the service was again slow and the kitchen messed up the order. I looked around the patio more, looks like it would be a great atmosphere at night with the lights, outside bar, and waterfall fountain... I'd totally go if there were a live jazz band or something. I take away a star because I think I won't return for food anymore. Not only was it slow, the neighbor behind the wall was leaf blowing and all sorts of debris flew over and got into everyones food and drink... the wait staff acted like they didn't even notice.

A nice Irish place a little upscale from its neighbor. The outdoor seating is awesome. Brunch and Bloody Marys, amazing... although service could be a little bit better/quicker. Probably not much of a scene late night, but perfect for brunch, lunch, and probably dinner too (I've never been for dinner so I can't really say). If your in the area, go!
I love this place for brunch. They have delicious eggs benedict and homefries, and a huge Irish breakfast with all the fixins'. The sandwiches are great too.
Service is always friendly, and I love the Irish accents! It always looks clean and the atmosphere is nice.
I can't really complain like the others, as I've had nothing but a positive experience at Devlin's and I go there for brunch probably twice a month.

This place is classy for Brighton center. Granted, that's not saying much... but still. I like it.
Popped in here Friday night for a glass of wine and some dessert. The dessert was VERY mediocre and not recommended at all. The wine was delicious. We stayed for two glasses each! The waitress was friendly (but not TOO friendly), and refilled our water glasses frequently after hearing that I was dying of thirst. Prices are reasonable. I came once for lunch, and it was tasty.
As the night wore on, the music got really, really loud. Dude, this is NOT a club. This is a bar/restaurant where people go to talk and drink and make merry. Keep the sound down, and I've got my neighborhood pub. I'll definitely be coming by again, especially for their patio, which certainly wasn't in play on that chilly Friday night.

It's hard to screw up a pasta dish. Even at my very greenest in the kitchen I was able to whip up something decent with angel hair, zucchini, butter and wine.
But Devlin's managed to do just that on my one visit there, delivering to our table two of the ickiest looking pasta dishes I've ever seen. The presentation was so bare and strange on the blue fish and linguini with red sauce-- giant, giant chunks of fish with a bit of pasta, covered in a small amount of thin red sauce....no visible spices...just totally unappetizing. That went to my friend-- my husband received a shrimp pasta dish with onions that were almost raw, big pieces of hard asparagus, all finished off with a really watery white sauce. He looked really unhappy while eating it, and left half in his plate. And this was all on 'Pasta Night'.
Granted, neither dish was mine-- I got a scallop appetizer and a beet and pear salad which were totally devoid of any creativity, but edible at least. It was all a real shame because their patio is so lovely, and the service is very prompt and friendly. Brighton could use a cool mid to high end restaurant, but this one doesn't quite fit the mark. I definitely won't be back.

Devlin's makes the best straight-up mojito in the Boston metro. I love the chicken kiev. The atmosphere is swanky and fun and the wait staff know when to appear and when to discretely stay away. Patio seating is a great option in the summer time but it's hard to get hold of.
My first introduction to "Irish" food was at Devlin's, and I kept coming back because in a sea of Irish bar and grills, Devin's sophisticated edge makes it stand out from the crowd.
Devlin's offers one of the handful of year round alfresco dining options in Boston. The food is always delicious, the decor inviting, and the service phenomenal. The last time I was there, I had just gotten my braces and could barely chew. The waiter was nice enough to request a special preparation of my chicken asparagus pasta so I wouldn't have to chew through too much.
There was a short period when they experimented with their menu with disastrous results, but because I've had so many great meals there with great people, I was loyal throughout. Frankly, I will likely always hold great fondness for Devlin's, trusting that they will find their way back even if they stray.
I highly recommend it, particularly for lunch.

I was stumped between 3 or 4 stars with this review, but decided to go ahead with the 4 because overall my experience was pleasant, the food was tasty, and the service was great...but they could definitely work on a few things to secure that 4 stars and aim towards 5.
You start your meal with some delicious breads accompanied by a delicious hummus looking cheese (I think). Whatever it was, I ate it, in mass quantities. The mojito I ordered was delicious, but a little heavy on the mint. For the most part I enjoyed sipping this cocktail but was surprised by a more than usual leaf chunk to the back of my throatness. For the price at $8, I would have preferred a larger glass, but I guess this Irish lush could say that about any drink he orders.
For an entree I order the special, gnocchi, which was served with mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, capers, and a plum sauce. The plate was delicious (as I was the first to inhale my entree within my party of friends) but I seemed to enjoy the other ingredients more-so than the gnocchi itself. I also was reminded by my Italian Stallion hag Stephanie that I'm an Irish boy who can't pronounce "gnocchi" correctly. She gave me lessons on how to say it, but I felt like I'd come off as a douchenozzle had I attempted the correct pronunciation with the waitress. The special was served with a Caesar salad that was DRENCHED in dressing. Normally, I'd appreciate the caloric intake, but in this case it wasn't a good overdose of fat. I think the salad had been dressed too early which left the lettuce a bit mushy, perfect for the early bird senior citizens who may have forgotten their PoliGrip. I sampled my other hag, Tori's, pizza which was amazing! I wish I had ordered one of their pizzas that were flirting with me when I read the menu.
The decor was elegant but casual at the same time. One of those places where you could go dressed in either your weekend garb or your after-work attire without sticking out like a sore thumb. It's an open, spacious atmosphere with two bars, booths, and tables scattered about. I was uneasy after using the restroom. Seeing the bottle of soap located right under the "Employees Must Wash Hands" sign, I took a squirt to wash my own. It seemed as if instead of replacing or refilling the soap, someone had just filled the near-empty bottle with water leaving an unsettling water to soap ratio and still dirty hands.
Our waitress was friendly and did a fine job serving us. She recommended a drink that wasn't on the menu, which is always a neat thing.
Overall, it's borderline 4 stars, and should work on their flaws to make sure they don't easily fall to a 3. I'd eat there again...with the intention of masticating a pizza to death.

I love Devlin's - the PEI mussels, the antipasto dish, the burgers and the mojitos (expertly crafted by the staff) are favs. We've tried everything on the menu, and have not had anything but great experiences at this Brighton Center bar. The bartenders are very personable. I don't get the naysayers - maybe we timed it right (we're not part of the late crowd - no need to compete with the nouveaux 20s and spillovers from Green Briar), maybe we've lucked out... I guess you can't please everyone, but that is their loss.

Good: GREAT outdoor seating AND one of the only places I've found in Boston where I can smoke. Food is usually excellent.
Bad: Hostess/Servers are usually slow and often not too friendly. I've been about 5 times since I moved to the area - and three times
their menus are often cut or replaced with "special" menus which have little options... or an event is being held.
Update: Made a vow never to go here again. We were seated next to the garbage dumpster. The smell was horrible and we overheard the waitresses talking about how bad it smelled. You would think they wouldn't seat customers there. Especially since there were only 3 tables of people out of 10-15 open tables. We politley asked if we could move and the waitress seemed very confused and just said, "go wherever you want".
We then never got our coffees refilled and she never checked on us after bring the food. We waited what seemed like forever for the check.
This restaurant, with its high ceilings, nice decor, a huge bricked patio in the yard behind would be one of Boston's rare outdoor oases IF IF IF someone with some imagination and gastronomical know-how could/would be charged with a total redesign of the current menu - which seems awfully like an afterthought. It's as if the owners said, "Hey! Lets take a ton of money and make this really cool LOOKING place, and... uhhhhh... we'll get Applebee's to cook the food for us!" Additionally, someone should tell the staff that blasting advert heavy, classic rock radio stations over the surround sound system is NOT a Sunday brunch atmosphere enhancement. Seriously, from the drink list to starters and main dishes and ambience - you can find more flair at UNO's.

I recently moved to the area and stumbled upon Devlin's. I instantly fell in love with the large back patio with nice plants and waterfall. Very charming.
So, despite the name, Devlin's doesn't seem to be an "Irish restaurant". It actually has a surprising menu including yummy crab cakes, steamed mussels, huge, delicious pizzas, juicy steak frites, chicken kiev, etc...too much to go on. In addition to the menu, they offer specials during lunch and dinner and have a great dessert menu.
The service is what sticks out most to me. The staff is energetic, friendly and most important efficient. The bartenders know their stuff...there is an extensive cocktail list that they seem to have perfected. Beer selection isn't too bad, either.
So, all in all, it's a great place to go...whether it be for food or after work/dinner drinks and fun!
Excellent! We went on a busy Saturday night so had to wait for a table but ended up sitting at the bar tables instead which was fine. The BBQ chicken pizza was very good. Servers were attentive and very friendly. There is not alot of parking on that street but you can park in the public lot off Market street and walk one minute to the place.

The food is improving at Devlin's, or maybe we just struck out the first two times that we tried it a year or so ago. It's still over-priced, but if you're in Brighton Center and don't feel like The Green Porter-rrib, it's a pretty safe bet. The beer selection is boring (the tap selection seems to be identical to to the Briar and Porterbellys--are they all running their keg lines out of the same place?) but adequate.

5 Stars all the way. Wow I am impressed beyond belief. Last night was my works holiday party at Devlins and it was totally fantastic. The service was great. Kudos to our server for putting up with a bunch of loud obnoxious people. Nah we weren't that bad. The drinks were great - obviously I drank a little too much. But they had a great selection of wines we ended up with a Chateauneuf du Pape and a J. Lohr Merlot which complemented my meal (grilled swordfish and broccoli rabe) very nicely. Dessert was delicious a chocolate/peanut butter truffle cake with a perfect 20 year old port. Practically orgasmic - but the top of the evening was the 20 year old scotch that just melted my heart. YUMMMY. I'm still feeling the effects today thats for sure.
The food, the quality of service, and atmosphere all rank high in my book I will definitely be going back soon. The prices were great for the quality that came out of the kitchen. I was blown away. I haven't eaten in a place like this for quite awhile and it was perfect sitting down with other foodies like myself.

Devlin's is semi-trendy for the area, in my opinion. Nevertheless, it's a nice change from the surrounding bars on the block sometimes. It has nice atmosphere, is clean and they have some nice wines/cocktails. They also have a patio which elevates any bar's status (gotta love the outdoor seating) but I've unfortunately never gotten to sit outside here!
Went to Devlin's for dinner with some friends. The entrees were ridiculously expensive for a place in brighton center. Seems like they have a wannabe-downtown syndrome. We ended up getting pizzas, which were good but really greasy. I'd certainly give Devlin's another try, but there are so many other good places around its hard to convince myself to go.
From 2000 - 2003 I lived in Boston and Brighton Centre from 00-01, this place was certainly a needle in a haystack. Good music either of the DJ or acoustic variety accompanied with upscale pub food, a friendly staff and nice decor was just what Brighton needed to improve it's image.

I agree with Rebecca about the best cosmo. Another great drink to try is the flirtini- so good!! I'm usually a "beer girl" but every once in a while I think the fruity drinks and Devlins has it. My friends and I usually get a few apps and drinks. The lighting is good- very dark & forgiving! The music is good. Good atmosphere. We ate dinner there once and it was a little too pricey for what we got. I say stay in the lounge/bar side, get some apps (pizzas are good) and drinks and you're good to go!

In a previous life I lived in Brighton, so I went to Devlin's for food and for drinks on a number of occasions, both inside and out on the patio. In summary, this place is a waste of time.
Which is really sad, given that the location, Brighton Center, needs a stylish place to eat and drink.
Basically, the service here is remarkably poor. Astoundingly poor. I could launch into any number of stories to illustrate the fundamental inability of the waitstaff to perform their duties, but my favorite is really the time I ordered a key lime pie martini (from their drinks menu, mind you) and they brought me a pie. Way to go.
Again, it's just too bad. The interior design of the main restaurant is attractive and the patio is spacious. All the right ingredients, but somehow they screw it up.
