Hi, my name is Lily and I am a carbaholic!
Devine Pastabilities is the place if you wanna fall off the wagon. You can indulge in carbs on carbs.

The concept for the Torpasta is simple:

hollowed out roll stuffed with your choice of pasta =
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...
In this case it was the Fab!

So now you get why it's carbs on more carbs. It's FANTASTIC!
We also ordered a small bread bites which is what they do with the pitted out bread rolls served with sauce. That was simple but satisfying as well.
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

And to top it all off, I had the best garlic Parmesan fries EVER! The kinda that lingers on your breath for days! No joke...they don't mess with the garlic here.
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Plus the service was nice and friendly and the place was clean! I remember going to an SD yelp elite event and the line for this place was super duper crazy bonkers long of people waiting...so I wasn't able to try it. So glad that I took the trip out to my old hometown for some great carbalicious food.

I would definitely stop back in here for my carb cravings. This place began from a childhood habit in which I shared, make any type of meal/food into a sandwich. This not only brought back memories, but all the carbs that went along with my childhood. The service was great and the staff was friendly and helpful. I haven't made the trek to SD to frequently and this was my first visit here.

I'll be honest about 1 thing that I wish I had done/ordered differently the pesto pastability sandwich was so full of carbs and not 1 protein. It felt like a chicken/ meat source would have been served well in this particular sandwich although there are sandwiches with mean in them... Also shared a pizza which was better than your standard pizza hut/dominos etc etc.

The bread holes is also an interesting concept which I had no idea what they were about, but they're simply the insides of a roll that they season and bake and then give you some marinara to dip it with which was actually so good I could have just had those for lunch. Not the most filling item, but it was indeed an appetizer.

4.5 stars.  I'm only taking off 1/2 a star since you can't drink out on the patio (not their fault, its the law) and the bread was a little soggy.

I've been to Devine Pastabilities about 4 times. I love how they are always sending coupons.  We usually always get the same thing: meat lovers lasagna torpasta and the sausage torpasta.  Everything tastes amazing. The sauce is very fresh and thick and well seasoned.  Like I mentioned earlier, I would have liked the bread to be baked a little more. It gets soggy.  The beer selection is great and the service is great too.

This place is wonderful. I always get the meatball sandwich which is absolutely fantastic. The servers are always friendly and we're never kept waiting long for our food. The garlic fries are great and same with the desserts. It's a nice little place that definitely deserves 5 stars.

Super yummy food, great customer service! My only complaint is that it's a little hard to find. It's tucked in the back corner of a shopping center, but it's totally worth it. My fave is the Macahelper (hollowed out garlic roll stuffed with mac and cheese and beef) and who can say no to garlic fries? They just recently did a Restaurant Week menu that was an awesome deal. Even without the Restaurant Week pricing it's not too expensive. Love this place!

The torpastas are an incredible idea alone, the bread that it comes with is amazing, and to top it all off, that is probably the best shrimp alfredo I've ever had.  The best shrimp alfredo I've ever had would have been good enough for 5 stars, but inside a crispy garlic roll that's fresh baked?  I need a 6th star.  Service was incredible too, everyone was sooooo nice.  I intend to come back here.  More than one time.

Cool concept and cute story behind the invention of the torpasta. You can read it up on the board.

I had my doubts about a sandwich stuffed with pasta, but the clever name of the restaurant convinced me to give it a shot. Plus, all the great reviews. I was quite impressed. The meal was tasty and very efficient. Pasta and breadstick all in one. The 6 inch is very filling, especially with a small appetizer of bread holes to share.

Also, loved the super friendly staff.

The best food on our 6-day southern california restaurant by far. What an amazing sandwhich shop.

The bread holes appetizer had the most delicious and hot marinara sauce i've ever had. We got two salads in their signature bread wraps. Both were fantastic. Certainly one of the best cheap eats in the city for sure!

There's really nothing special about this place. Ordered spaghetti in bread and just tasted like anything else. I feel like I could make it myself. Also ordered seasoned fries and it was very average. I bookmarked this place just because I thought it would be different, with pasta in bread and all...

Wouldn't come back here again. I checked in on Yelp and got $1 off the bill!

Why yes, I would love to shove a delicious tossed salad or one of my favorite pasta dishes in a hollowed out toasted roll with sesame seeds on top.

Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?!?!
    F-ing brilliant concept.

They should get out of the strip mall off Midway and move to North Park where I think they would be even more successful.

Whaddaheck?!! Torpasta? My husband hardcore mocks me for loving torpasta, but it's just because he hasn't had the privilege of eating one of these delicious carbobombs. I used to mock the Torpasta as well, but I am now a repentant convert. I will eat my words, but only if it's covered in alfredo sauce and stuffed in a hollowed out tube of garlic bread.

So it's not the best pasta (I like it a little more al dente). So it's not authentic. My Italian co-workers would go out of their minds if they knew how much I loved this place - what an abomination, a bastardization of Italian cuisine, putting pasta in a bread roll! WHO CARES IT IS DELICIOUS. I am a simple woman. Sometimes I just want my carbs with my carbs. I love the Fab, I love the veggieball special. Haters gonna hate, torpasta gonna torpast.

I'm super bummed they're closed on Sundays - I really wanted to get a carb fix today but was crushed to learn that they observe the day of the Lord. From what I hear, the happy hour is pretty legit, but the last time I visited the Land of Carbs, we'd missed it by literally one minute. Sad face.

had dinner with a friend here tonight. I was looking for some pasta and my house mate just wanted a salad. first choice was red lobster but they only had two choices for salads so my house mate recommended DEVINE PASTABILITIES! It turned out to be a great suggestion. Great food, friendly staff and everything you would want in a pizza, pasta place. I had their version of mac and cheese......mac and cheese with lots and lots of cheddar cheese and ground beef! super delicious! My house mate had an antipasto salad......chopped  and dressed perfectly! This was my first experience and will certainly not be my last!

    Mmm carbs.

When we drove up, I started to wonder why  did it say "devine" and not "divine."  I always thought it was Divine.  While waiting for the food I started to read the wall.  The owner's last name is "Devine" so that made sense!  When he was 9 he came up with the idea of taking out the inside of the bread loaf and putting his pasta inside.  That is such a great idea.  I love eating my pasta on top of garlic bread but this way is so much neater.

Ended up ordering the lasagna sandwich.  I got the meat lovers which included ground beef, sausage, and pepperonni.  I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love meat!  It was so delicious and very filling.  I could only finish half of my sandwich.  I can't wait to try other items on their menu!

There are places that serve old favorites, places that pride themselves on their authenticity and cultural background, and there are others that create new things. They all are good for different reasons, and sometimes you are just in the mood for one over the other.

This night was a night where I was feeling a little adventurous and wanted to try something a little bit different than normal. We started yelping online for a place to eat, something not too far from where we were, and came across this place. It had good ratings and looked like something fun to try. We went and were not disappointed!

They are known for their "Torpastas", sandwiches that are hollowed out rolls, filled with pasta. They serve garlic bread with the bread that they pull out of the middles - what a good idea :)

I got the meatball torpasta, but there were so many more that I wanted to try. It's such a good idea - it was a little bit like a meatball sub, but so much less messy, and with pasta too! I guess it wouldn't be good for someone trying to stay away from carbs, but man is it good. It's worth the carbs. They had other things too - like torsalads.. which were salads instead of pasta stuffed torpedoes. Pizzas are also served there.. but why get pizza when you can get a meatball torpasta :)

I can say this with a certainty: if their food was awful, I'd still come back for the friendly service and atmosphere.

But luckily, their food was spectacular.

The girlfriend and I were walking towards Pizza Hut when I saw the sign for the restaurant.  Some friends mentioned it to me recently, and I admit, pasta-stuffed sandwiches seemed like a silly idea.  I was wrong.  We walked in and the server greeted us and struck up a conversation as we were deciding what to eat.  Shortly after we ordered another worker walked in, smiled, and also spoke to us.  We were pleased with the restaurant without even eating the food yet.

And the food! Oh Lord the food was amazing.  We shared a small order of bread holes with their great marinara sauce.  My gf ordered the Creamy Pesto and Sundried Tomatoes and I inhaled the Carbonara.  Don't worry about the peas, they compliment the textures and the bacon.

Another huge bonus is the awesome Happy Hour beer prices.  Will be back soon to try that.

I haven't been to the actual restaurant, but I got a chance to sample some of Divine Pastabilities' creations at a recent Yelp Elite event. It's amazing how such a simple yet creative idea can lead to an entire business.

With creations like this, the food is typically hyped up and doesn't turn out to be that great. These guys, however, definitely get it right. I imagined that their pasta would be pretty bland and all the emphasis would be on the creativity of the whole concept. However, the pasta is pretty good. Very flavorful, lots of variety, and smothered with sauce. Best thing is it doesn't fall out of the bread, so you get a fairly clean eating experience. Somehow I managed to mess that part up and ended up almost spilling half of my pasta.

Can't wait to visit the actual place and try the rest! However, I doubt it'll happen soon. Even though it's a great idea and it tastes good, it's just pasta and bread...

Yum! Bread and pasta, two of my favorite things in the world.

I've had the carbonara and yelpwich. I'm a fan on the yelpwich because I love blush sauce which is a mix of marinara & cream. My boyfriend is a fan of the philly cheesesteak torpasta.

Be warned; garlic fries are extremely garlicky.. I love garlic but the amount of dried garlic powder on there was overwhelming.

    Bread holes are good.

To be honest, the food isn't mind blowing or authentic italian but it definitely hits the spot for me when I'm craving carbs. I'm a bread and pasta lover so it's hard to disappoint me when everything is made fresh and hot.

The owner of this establishment is quite friendly which is always a plus.

The Pastabilities here are some what endless.... Well not really I just felt like saying that.

They do have a good amount of tasty torpastas which are unique in every perspective. You might be a tad sloppy your first time around with a torpasta but you'll find the right technique. I would suggest going with at least 4 others and ordering each something different in order to find that right one for you.

    5 star house salad.

Mmmmm! WOW so much carbs, but oh so good! Stopped by here to give it try with some friends who came down from San Jose. We arrived around 830PM and the staff was still welcoming. Some places may not like it when customers come in half an hour before closing, but they didn't seem to mind. Anyway, I ordered the creamy pesto with sun dried tomato 6 inch torpedo, and my boyfriend ordered the Yelpwich. My friend ordered a Yelpwich as well, another had the same thing I got, and the other got the Veggieball one. The portions are pretty big, and really good for the price. The pasta comes out piping hot and the bread is delicious! We stayed about 15 minutes after closing and the staff didn't make us feel rushed which is great. My friends enjoyed their food, and so did I, I can't wait to go back!

Oh yeah, my boyfriend mentioned that his Yelpwich was like eating a Deluxe Hot Pocket, nothing wrong with that though because he loved his food LOL

Wow now this is just crazy!  Who'd a thought that putting pasta inside bread would be such a hit?!  I mean i know you eat garlic bread with pasta so its not like you don't eat them in the same sitting.  I guess its HOW they did it that makes it so successful.  The bread is hollowed out really thin then toasted crispy and stuffed with a pasta or salad of your choosing.

I also like that they found a use for the hollowed out insides too, They offer the (bread holes) as garlic bread!  AND make you pay for them too!  Now that's just genius!

Unlike Mr. Lippman and his muffin stumps.

"Excuse me, im Rebecca De Mornay from the homeless shelter, are you the one's leaving those muffin pieces behind our shelter?"
Elaine: *smiles* "you've been enjoying them?"
    RDM: "There just stumps!"
    Elaine: "Well there perfectly edible"
RDM: "so you just assume the homeless will just eat them?  They will eat anything?!  I know what you thought they don't have homes!  They don't have jobs, what do they need the top of a muffin for?!  There lucky to get the stumps!!"

Everyone i've tried was good.  They also have a vegan option too with vegan meatballs, and even some sort of vegan parmesan cheese substitute that you can ask for.

Pizzas there are good too.  Its the torpastas and torsalads, that blow me away!!  It's like Willi Wonka meets Subway!

I tried torpastas for the first time at the farmers market that came to our campus every Tuesday and I fell in love right away.
The bread would be hollowed out and toasted with some garlic sauce. Then, it is filled with delicious pasta that just the right amount of pasta sauce.

I always get the creamy pesto with sundried tomatoes and it is my favoriet torpasta. I can't really anything else besides the fact that it is pure perfection. I also tried the carbonara and that was really good too. But, I'm not a real big fan of cream and cheese so it was a little too thick and heavy for me. But, my friend that loves cream/cheese, etc fell in loe with the carbonara. They are not stingy with the portions at all so you will get your money's worth & more with these torpastas.

The service is great (at the farmers market and at the restaurant itself). I love this place and if only it were closer to my house I'd go every day.

I had never heard of Devine Pastabilities until today when I was at yelp's signature event. They served their typical torpastas at the event consisting fo meatball, sveggieball and lasagna.

The ones I tried were the meatball and veggieball which were both pretty decent but nothing mind blowing. I can definitely see this being a go to lunch spot in the area because it's simple and pretty quick. Definitely gonna go check out this establishment soon.

So my friend decided to try this place. I got the pasta with meatballs torpasta and she got the pesto with chicken. Both delicious! Very smart idea of putting pasta in a sandwich and in a neat way too! No mess.

I'll probably come here to the restaurant and try it being made in a restaurant.

I ate here for the first time this weekend. Since a lot of people had been telling me that the torpastas were TO DIE FOR, I came in with high expectations. I ordered the vegetarian lasagna torpasta and my boyfriend got the spaghetti & meatballs torpasta. The food came out in a timely manner and piping hot -- which was awesome!

It was a little hard to eat at first (I kept burning my mouth), but once it was cool enough and I managed a few bites, it was good. Sadly, it wasn't as mind blowing as I had hoped it would be. It was tasty and definitely delicious, but not as amazing as I had hoped. The atmosphere was great and service was excellent.

    5,4,3,2,1..TORPEDOES AWAY!!! ..........LITERALLY

The staple of this homey joint are their popular pasta Torpedoes. I have ordered the Pesto (with added chix) and the Alfredo with chicken Torpedoes. Mmmmmmmmm delicious! Now I know everyone and their mom can make these on their own.....take a french bread, dig a whole, and stuff the bread with pasta. But Helloooooo, why would you go through all the hassle when Devine Pastabilities can do it!! They def. have other options such as reg. sandwiches, pasta plates, pizza, etc.

I love the way the place is set up...SO NON CHAIN!! I've been gettiing tired of chains lately cause it's always the same deal, so to come to a place like Devine Pastabilities really makes it homey and warm, and has that family environment. Hey, maybe they'll become a chain in the future, who knows!??! If you're in the mood for pasta, there's definitely a devine pastability in the near future for you! Get it get it!??! Like possibility, but Pastability because, they serve pasta and it's possible to have pasta in your bread without falling all out, but it's pastability! you know...whatever leave me alone, it's funny.

    "I have friends, I promise there's a devine pastability that it's true...HAHA" jokes SYU

    Amazing!

I first encountered torpasta when I was walking around the Farmer's Market that comes to my university every Tuesday. I was tired of having crepes and lemongrass chicken, so I thought I'd give torpasta a try. I mean, who doesn't like carbs?

The stand on campus only had three flavors: meatball, veggie meatball, and creamy pesto. Being a pesto lover, I opted for the creamy pesto with sundried tomatoes and chicken. And it was amazing! It was super saucy and they're not stingy with the servings at all. For $7, I was satisfied and happy with a 6".

I can't wait to head to the main restaurant to try other flavors!

Tonight (9/8/11)was the county blackout! Drove around and found Devine Pastabilities running on a generator with an open tent serving Hot cooked pasta in rolls!

$6 bucks for a torpasta. Added $1 for chicken. I tried this place a 2nd time on this lovely backout day. I had the Fetachini pasta with brocolli and chicken in a roll. Roll was nice and soft and not burnt the last time I came here. The pasta was actually good this time and had the proper amount of sauce. Maybe because it was a blackout and everything had to be cooked on the spot.

One thing I noticed. If you're handling cash, wear gloves when handling food. I saw a girl or two going back and forth to help stuff the bread rolls after taking in cash without wearing gloves. A big no-no with the health inspectors.

I saw this at the farmer's market at UCSD today between classes. I was hungry and it was seven bucks for a 6" Torpasta and a coke so I figured "why not?"

The pasta and sauce are not great by any means, but when you're hungry and you're a college student, what can be better than bread stuffed with pasta. It's not "good"" italian but it's still pretty good in itself. Will I eat it again? Yes, next Tuesday I want to try the pesto.

The "I Heart Carbs" shirts say it all.

I came here with a friend of mine who told me that she eats here about three times a month which elicited a mental grimace followed by a slight resentment that her metabolism is as good as it still is whereas an old fart like myself needs to make sure that he utilizes the energy or else it goes straight to his love handles.

We sat outside on an overcast day where something warm and chewy covered by something warm and crispy, especially after having walked around Lake Murray,  would hit the spot.

I had no idea what I was actually eating until it actually came out and my mind warped into a separate dimension for a few moments in time as I tried to wrap my head around this carbohydrate dense concoction nestled inside a device designed to hold an ostrich egg.  I had a Pesto with Chicken.

I'm of a mind that too much of anything in a meal is cheating.  Keep in mind that I also think adding in bacon or potatoes in a meal is also cheating so take this assessment for what it's worth but that many carbohydrates is obviously going to be delicious in an incredibly guilty way.

Plan on some cardiovascular activity afterwards.

I was told this was a great place for sandwiches and pasta dishes. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed.

My friend had the Philly Steak sandwich and loved it, he gave it a 4 out of 5. I had spaghetti with meatballs. I have to say, it tasted and looked worse than spaghetti from a can. I am not kidding. I couldn't even eat it.

They also upsold us on some specialty french fries that had so many spices and herbs covering them that you feel like you just licked the bottom of a spice rack. Yuk.

Yelp.. you didn't let me down!!

Total carbo load and I loved every bite of it.. it definitely contributed to my dreamless, sudden-body-jerking-movement every 5 minutes, mouth-open, drool on the side of my face, and right foot hanging out the passenger seat, best sleep everrr to the way back to OC.

Small family owned place.. and unless you're one of those people that can eat those 5 pound burritos and get it for free.. I suggest you stick with the 6in Torpasta. I was tempted to get a 12in since I have my days where I can finish a 12in at Subway, no prob. Like, what's in those things? Air? No wonder that one guy lost weight. But the skinny girl inside me wanted to one day finally come out so I did the 6.

    FOOD:
We went with the Bowtie pasta with Pesto & Sun-dried Tomato in one and we got a combo Torpasta combo deal for the other. It included a 6in Spaghetti W/ Meatball Torpasta, choice of salad, and a drink for $6.99 or so. The bread they use for the Torpasta is so soft and not too heavy! Went really well with something as heavy as pasta and cheese. I loveee pesto & sun-dried tomatoes so my choice was perfect for me.. I also loved how they put all that Parm before the pasta and created that melted-cheese-string in every bite.. love love love. The spaghetti was delicious! I was surprised how great it was.. you always think of spaghetti at eateries to be kind of meh and basic.. this one was BOMB. They don't skimp out on the meatballs either! The man was so happy about that. Screw you Subway with your 2 meatballs in a 6in!! Hate you.

We also used a check in offer that gave us $1 off a Joe's Fries. Its a basket of fries seasoned with some of their herbs, spices, salt & pepper that  you can share with 2-3 people. I'd recommend to go easy on the seasoning.. felt a little to salty and over seasoned. Id love to try the Garlic Fries next time!

We didn't end up finishing about a little less than half the fries at the end of our meal.. and we started talking to one of the waiter dudes. He's from Hawaii and came here to help out his mom who also works here and talks about the lifestyle over there.. then asks us if we didnt like the fries and would be happy to offer a discount on them! ... wha.. I didnt even know what to say to that! Never have I experienced this anywhere.. I mean, I know the fries were only like 3-4 bucks but we like ate more than half. We totally said it was cool but so awesome that he even offered.

Such an awesome place for the food & service for the price.. definitely will be coming back :)

Carb-aholic's heaven? Maybe so. I am a self-professed carb-aholic, though, and I thought my meal was just OK. I really wanted to love it, but I was bored with it about halfway through. I had the 6-inch veggieball, and the veggieballs weren't all that great. I liked the spaghetti & the roll, though. I will probably try this place sometime in the future, and I love that they do have a vegan option, as well as some other vegetarian options. So yeah, I'll be back, and I will update once I've tried more items!

So yummy!!! Sometimes it can take a bit, but it's so worth it! The veggie meatballs are great, just ask them to chop them up as they can be kinda big...

My Twitter feed went a little something like this:

"Mac n cheese in a garlic baguette and other Devine Pastabilities = best idea ever!"

"If I lived in San Diego, I'd be eating at @torpasta alllll the time! but then I'd also gain 20 pounds. Lol"

"So full. delicious carb overload. I couldn't even finish a 6". They have a foot long too."
