I had no clue this place even existed until the other night.
But a really cool place for a nice dinner. Lots of exotic meats. Pretty much everyone at the table tried something different: bison steak or wild boar, anyone?
Lots of space, so it is great for a large party.
Great wine list.
And the chocolate cake was fantastic!

i thoroughly enjoyed myself at devin tavern, mostly due to the company i was keeping. don't get me wrong, the food is great, i just felt like it was a bit of a fancy nouveau american steakhouse.
the dim lighting and dark wood decor set the scene for a chill night.
our table split a decadent lobster grilled cheese, which was a hit. the pot pie tasting was so cute, and also enjoyed by all, as were the house made bacons. it is pretty cool to make duck, veal and mushroom into baconesque wonders.
the crispy wild salmon was perfectly done and the combo of meyer lemons, dill and creme fraiche was divine. i didn't notice, however, the truffle croquettes being all that truffly. whatev!
they forgot our lobster hush puppies, but we were pretty well stuffed and okay with that.
Four stars?!!? are you kidding me? This place is terrible. I'm specifically referring to the food. Mediocre at best. Actually way worse than mediocre. Went for brunch one time and ordered the French toast. I maybe ate half of one piece. Super heavy and covered in some crazy chocolaty type sauce. Was foolish enough to go back and the food got even worse the second time. The place looks fantastic, nice decor a great location. But unless they get a new executive chef and fast this place will be closing its doors very soon. Almost every time I walk by its practically deserted. Way better options to be had in Tribeca.

WOW! I am very glad that I stopped by and read the menu at lunch time.
Before I had just passed by since I work in the area and I decided I wanted to sit down and have a relaxing lunch. Before I just figured it was a small restaurant as I had only seen the few people eating on the patio in the summer....this places opens up and goes back DEEP. It is huge!
The space is warm, inviting and full of great brickwork.
For lunch I had a lobster/truffle/grilled cheese with a puree of french onion soup and seasoned fries. Not bad for $16.
I will be going back several times; but, not sure if it can pull me down from the UWS to Tribeca for dinner.

I love Dylan Prime and was excited to hear about this new location in the area.
The exposed brick and wood-burning fireplace elicits a rustic air. The food is a nice balance of classic and experimental.
If you go, you must have the oysters and corn souffle as the appetizer. The chicken and biscuits are pretty damn good too. The fois gras terrine and the beet carpaccio are just okay.
For main course, try the lobster club, short ribs, lamb or the duck. The cod came highly recommended as well, but the baby back ribs were a crowd pleaser.
That said, I can't recommend the chocolate potato chips. The concept was intriguing, but we were disappointed. They ended up being soggy and not salty enough to strike the approrpriate balance.

Devin Tavern excels at creating savory American classics. Although the decor leans towards a heavy seriousness, the atmosphere is not stuffy at all. The staff is attentive and understands the menu.
Right down the street from it's heavyweight big brother, Dylan Prime, Devin manages to create a different class of it's own.

Devin has started serving brunch, and it is great. I recommend the Devin Hash with braised short rib, which consists of fried potatoes mixed with bacon, onions, and braised short rib with two eggs on top. I had mine over-medium, and it was fantastic.
They seemed to offer other brunchy things like waffles, burgers, egg breakfasts, and chicken salad as well. I heard after the fact that the biscuits and gravy are supposed to be really good, but I admit my attention was caught by the Hash.
The atmosphere felt a bit Pottery Barn to me, but the wait staff was extremely nice and effective.

I'm giving it one star because I don't have the option of zero, which is what it deserves. We went the other night, a party of 12 people, and found the atmosphere fine, the rooms large and airy - though relatively empty. The reason became clear as we were waiting over an hour for the appetizers. Over an hour later, they came - with a few errors, no apologies. When I gestured to a passing waitress to ask about the food, she said, "I'll go check" and never returned. The appetizers were mediocre. Main courses were no better. The two people who'd ordered fish were fine with it. The rest of us played with our food, which was served on attractive dishes, but was not good. I ordered succotash, a side dish that runs around $8, and it was tasty but gone in four forkfuls.
I asked three times to have my water glass refilled before it was. There was plenty of staff available yet nobody came by the table.
One of the main courses arrived so late that the young child in our group had fallen asleep. The restaurant refused to waive the charge. They should have come by to apologize and perhaps offer free drinks since we were sitting there with nothing but rolls and a piece of rye bread, but they were totally uninterested in our problems.
Desserts, too, weren't worth the calories.
The place is expensive and terrible -- the food, the service (lack of) and attitude. It felt unprofessional.
