What this park lacks in tranquility it certainly makes up for in aesthetics.
I absolutely loved my afternoon walking/jogging the blue and orange vista trails. I was so jealous of everyone cooking out and making a whole day or camping at the park and it makes me want to return with a picnic packed.
The trails are maintained nicely but the short blue and orange vista trails left me doubling back more than once jogging between the loops.
I knocked one star for the volume of people and subsequent noise. There were a few loud individuals climbing the Devil's Oven and camp counselors yelling to their campers. -

We've gone camping at Devil's Hopyard every year for the last three or four years, and it's really one of the state's hidden treasures, as the previous reviewer wrote. It's absolutely beautiful and nestled in a place pretty far away from where most things happen in Connecticut, which makes it the perfect place to spend a few days every year. There are scenic hiking trails along a stream that end at beautiful vistas, and there are pretty amazing waterfalls.
The Hopyard campground is very clean, and there are plenty of sites, clean outhouses (with sensor lights added this year) and easy access to dumpsters (garbage and recycling). It's also walking distance to the big waterfall, which we walked to a lot because it was so close by. It's also very inexpensive - just $14 a night for Connecticut residents this year. Even if you're not staying for a night, it's a great place to just spend the day. -

Ever since I was in high school, I would escape to the waterfalls at Devil's Hopyard and sit by the waterfall for some solitude, smoke, and self-reflection.
This is where I fell in love with my ex boyfriend.
Hiking paths, ponds, waterfalls, history, picnicing, and camping... Devil's Hopyard is truly one of Connecticuts hidden treasures. There is plenty of parking, and plenty of opportunities to get in touch with nature.
During the winter, Devil's Hopyard maintains its true beauty... waterfalls echo the sound of running water beyond a facade of ominously sculptured ice... seeming to eternally flow into a pool scattered with puzzle peices of frozen water...
Absolutely one of the most serene spots in the CT.Listed in: Landmarks Less Traveled

Came back in the winter as promised, and I wasn't disappointed. I strongly suggest going to the vista point if you can find it. I didn't put in the proper effort to get there the first time I visited, and the view is quite amazing. You come out of the trees where a cliff drops away and you can see south almost to the sound. Seeing the area with a fresh blanket of snow is worth bundling up and making your way out here.
