Neighborhoods: Southeast, Washington ParkI went here a month ago with my best yelper friend and it was sooo cute. I love the location and the inside was well decorated. There is an incredible bakery in the front and everything looked amazing. I sat on the back patio and it was beautiful. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. I had pear pecan pancakes and my friend enjoyed a classic eggs and bacon meal. Its a bit pricey but well worth going back. Check out the bathrooms they are funny!

Since I have only quickly ducked in Devil's Food Bakery to grab a cup of coffee, this review will be based on my very short experience. The coffee was good (Daz Bog); however, I'm still day dreaming daily about that lucious confection they produce called a "hedgehog". Normally, I despise Red Velvet Cake having grown up in the deep south where dry, tasteless Red Velvet Cake is practically served as a side dish at every meal. I tend to avoid it at all costs. But this hedgehog, a luscious horned ball of chocolate covered cream-filled red velvet cake goodness, is the bomb! I was going to take a photo of it, but I couldn't stop eating it.
I will definitely visit this place again, after I've lost the 20 lbs I gained. LOL!

Devils Food is so good. I think their bread is the best I have tried and the rest of the baked items look amazing. I'm trying to avoid getting too familiar with them!
The best part is the brunch. Great menu, and incredible food. Florentine benedict, god that was good!
The coffee is great too.

Very impressed! I had brunch on the patio and it was so charming with all of the flowers. The service was great and the all of the ladies worked together to make sure that every guest was being taken care of. I had the classic breakfast which included eggs, potatoes, bacon, toast, and I added fresh fruit. It was very good. My friend had the pear and pecan pancakes and she enjoyed her meal as well. I can't wait to go back to try the cookies, brownie, basically everything. I feel as though I've discovered my new favorite place.

Yet another fantastic option in the exploding brunch scene here in Denver!
The Gaylord shopping district is a perfect backdrop for this local sweet-ery serving European pastries and a mean breakfast.
We went on a Saturday morning (around 10am) and got seated right away, although the line that greeted us as we left testified to the popularity of this place.
I had a phenomenal stack of buttermilk pancakes made with chopped pears and toasted pecans, definitely rivaling the pancake creations at Snooze. The breakfast relleno with feta cheese and turkey chorizo (another special) was also very well done, with a great balance of mild spiciness.
My biggest complaint is that they close so early (M-F at 4pm, and 3pm on weekends)! I would love to come here for dessert some time.

My day doesn't start until I visit the incredible staff at Devil's Food. I love them all, almost as much as I love their lattes, Mexican Wedding Cake cookies, and Rock Star Brownies! Their dairy, fruits and veggies come from small, local farms, and their meats are nitrate free. The cost is a bit higher, but it's worth it for the quality.

Terrific Food
Never waited more than 15 minutes
Great cute atmosphere and location
Parking not always the best, but you can usually find something within a block. Plus the walk will do you good after you taste their scrambles and pumpkin pancakes.
Definitely in my top two favorite breakfast places in Denver
This place is incredible! I was so impressed with our brunch last weekend that I think I have found my new favorite place.
The bread, baked fresh each day was amazing! I had bacon and eggs and it was the best bacon I have ever eaten. Their coffee is really good and yes, it is a bakery, so let's just say the pastries ruined my diet for weeks to come. There was a bit of a wait on a Sunday morning, but it was well worth it. It's a neat block that it sits on with cute shops that we explored while waiting.

If you're looking for a place to go Sunday morning after you finished nursing your hangover from Wash Park Grill, then you have found a friend in the Devil's Food Bakery.
Cute, shabby chic atmosphere. A little cramped, so I wouldn't bring more than 4 people here. Random vintage-y windows to accentuate the shabby chic vibe. A decent waiting area, which is nice b/c there will most likely be a wait on the weekends.
I asked if we could walk around since it was a 35 minute wait, and she told me that she would give away my table if I wasn't there. I asked if we came back in 20 minutes would we be safe, and she said just so you know, if you're not here I'll gave away your seats. Alrighty....so I guess I'll take a seat.
Food was delicious and totally reasonably priced. I got the omelet (of course) with grilled peppers, tomato and portabella mushrooms. I luuuved how they had a side salad as an option as I despise hash browns. DESPISE hash browns.
The best part was that I got the Devil's Food Donut, which is devil's food cake double dipped in chocolate ganache and striped with white chocolate (web site description).

Came in at noon for breakfast - which they serve all day! I was complimented on my reading comprehension, which was amusing, and got a large soy latte, which was delicious. My scramble was excellent, as were the skin-on potatoes.
The atmosphere is a little loud, which was great for me, as it masked my little one's fussing as I got his bottle ready.
I was dying to try one of the fruit tarts, but since I was stuffed from breakfast, and wasn't heading right back to the hotel, I needed to get some more "hanging out in the car w/o spoiling"-type treats. What a shame - I had to get a hedgehog (red velvet cake around a sweet creamcheese center, covered in chocolate) and a devil's food donut instead. (Will update once hubby gets back so we can split 'em!)
Staff were very friendly, and let me loiter over my coffee (and the baby over his bottle).
Take note wannabe cafes ... THIS is how it's done. There's so much right with Devil's Food, it's tough to list it all (must be what it's like when the guys look at Halle Berry and the girls look at, um ... Steve Gutenberg?)
Devil's Food has got the food (forged in the kitchen by a guy who looked disappointingly unlike Lucifer), the prices (my friend and I were out of there for less than $35), the service (nice & unpretentious), the atmosphere (chill, but busy at times), the desserts (fantastic), the desserts (fantastic), and the desserts (fan-fucking-tastic!). Plus it's in a great neighborhood called Wash Park - a nice place to walk around and burn off the 666 calories you just ate in the form of devilishly good desserts. Oh, "Devil's" food. Now I get it.

The best breakfast in Denver. The only place around where the food, service and atmosphere excel at once. I also love that they try to use organic and local ingredients when available. Grab some baked goods on the way out.

Devil's food really gets it right. Every time I go there, it feels like a special occasion. The dining area is perfect, casual, and a little romantic. Come to think of it, it would actually be a good place for a low pressure first date. They really know their way around an egg here, which ironically, is something most breakfast joints tend to screw up. The scrambles are actually Frittata, which is fine with me, since I love me some Frittata. As for the service, it is always excellent and extremely pleasant (unless you use your cell phone, whatever you do, don't use your cell phone). Finally, the pastry case is the height of food porn in all its baked goods glory. Docked a star because the wait can be a little long, though that's just a testament to how good it is.
I had a great brunch at Devilsfood last weekend. This girl I just met took me there as a way to expand my villiage inn horizions and I was pleasantly suprised. The fresh baked bread, I believe rosemary, was really good. The coffee, one of the 5 food groups for me, was also quite good. The people working there were really cool and nice quick service. There wasn't a wait at all, which is nice for sunday brunch.
My only complaint is they need a better patio.

WHO can resist a red velvet hedgehog? NOT ME!
Devil's Food makes the most mouth-watering concoctions not only of the liquid sort but from the oven as well. One treat will fill your suggested daily serving for sugar and then some, but come on, with Devil in the name what did you expect? They're great for birthday cakes if you give them advance notice, or if you just want to go get something chocolate-y or fruity they can handle that too.
Fabulous, just fabulous.
An incredible bakery as well as a good brunch spot, it's a place I stop by every time I'm in Denver. A truly devilish place cuz since I've had their amazing grapefruit tart months ago, I can't stop thinking about it. Tart and sweet pink grapefruit atop creamy vanilla goodness encased in a crunchy crust. Soo good. It entices me every time I'm there, trying to stop me from experiencing all the other baked goodies. Fortunately, I've been able to resist temptation and can whole heartedly recommend their red velvet hedgehog, blueberry muffins, cookies, and other fruit tarts. I've also special ordered cakes here, which have turned out Amaaaazing.
Brunch is delish with the basic dishes, jazzed up by good ingredients. Their sandwiches are good too (the chicken pesto panini!).
My ONLY complaint - I've dined here solo several times and ALWAYS get stuck way back in Siberia (ahem - the empty back of the restaurant) -and have seen other solo diners get treated the same way. Booo!

Wow! One of the highlights of our week in the Denver area. We went there for lunch around 1:30 PM on a weekday. We had no trouble getting seated inside (it was a hot day in Denver). There is also an outdoor patio for dining, behind the restaurant.
The dining room is really warm and friendly, with faux doors and windows adorning the walls and hanging from the ceiling, a country cupboard, and a general country or folk design.
We had, among other things, the Catfish Po'Boy, vegetable and beef soup, and Mediterranean Chicken Panini. Their dark-roast coffee was excellent, and strong. My wife and I shared a blueberry tart. It was amazing. My daughter had the apple and brie sandwich, which she was much surprised to learn that she loved. She had a doughnut, also found that to be an excellent and rich dessert.
Service was excellent.
Thanks to other Yelp reviewers for recommending this restaurant, and the tarts. If we had left without the tart, our lives would have been much diminished as a result.
We had to find parking two blocks off Gaylord, but it was a pleasant walk.

Awesome neighborhood haunt.
Actually...just awesome. Travel the distance.
From the cafe tables, benches and sofa for the quick cup of coffee, to the tables for sit-downs, this place is the perfect neighborhood haunt that you can suggest to anyone who asks for a great place to grab a cup of coffee, a pastry or dessert, or brunch, but definitely highly recommend the devilish desserts.
The folks here are real, and not the typical apathetic ilk that tend to hole up in non-corporate, neighborhood coffee houses.
It's not really set up for a kid-friendly vibe, but I have seen children here and have had successful breakfasts with my 2.5 yo.
They don't allow cell phone use inside the coffee house. All you loud-mouth cell phone users, who haven't yet learned that you don't need much of your rude volume to be heard on the other end (yes, technology is that advanced) can suck it and go somewhere else, or just outside to take that call that could've waited anyway. Also, when you won't give up the phone call to finish giving your order, you hold up the rest of us.
5 stars for reasonable prices, location, eats, people and that cell phone rule.

Oh Momma, not only do they make the perfect morning latte, they also create a FABULOUS b-day gift for the choc-o-holic....the lucious, velvety "Hedgehog". 'nuff said.
Oh, temptuous sinful goodies.. why must you beckon me..
Devil's Food is probably my favorite bakery in Denver. Their chocolate cakes are incredible! I mean, cake! Come on! All of the pastries I've tried are amazing, and make me only want more.. Cream puffs? Just kill me now.
By the way, they have stuff other than sinful sweets. Great breakfast from what I've experieced. The back patio is a pleasant spot, too. Overall great place to eat, whatever you decide!
If this is hell, make me a sinner.
Happy Birthday to me! The cake I received at my birthday dinner was from Devil's Food Bakery.
A small square cake that would efficiently feed 8 was almost too pretty to eat. The fact that I knew there was chocolate , not eating it was out of the question. A magenta polka dotted cake with an actual ribbon on top. Inside swirls of chocolate swimming along yellow cake. Melding the two layers into one was a filling of chocolate pudding.
Complete thumbs up!
True to its name, the bakery case at this shabby chic, Washington Park bakery-cum-restaurant is indeed devilish, thanks to the diabolically rich scones, sugar cookies, cakes, and pastries that line the shelves. Moms toting strollers stop in for lattes and the latest gossip, the lunch hour brims with neighborhood shoppers, nights are packed to the rafters with gastronauts, and Sunday brunch brings in crowds from both the city and the suburbs. The eggs Benny are the best in town, and the kitchen uses mostly organic and seasonal ingredients.

The tarts are just gorgeous and they taste wonderful too. (The Key-Lime Tart is just wrong, it's so good.)
My only complaint is that the dessert case is light on Sundays and I think it's because the folks at Devil's Food are off on Mondays...or is that when the little helpers come in and bake/bake/bake for the week?
Regardless, they also have coffee and meals in a bohemian-casual setting. It's a wonderful place to have a morning meal with a couple of close friends. The atmosphere just feels creative and the food is really nice. It's a place I'd go to catch up with my friends or plan someone's wedding. Waitstaff is pleasant -- all in all, this is one of my favorite places to hang in this neighborhood.

Adorable. That's what this place is. It's a great little brunch spot, although you should be ready for a short wait. While waiting, you will find yourself gazing longingly at the dessert case. Or was that just me? Their pastries and tarts looked gorgeously delicious and had I lived in the area, I would have eaten each and every one.
I think this place is well-known for their delectable treats, but their breakfast is good too. Overall, a satisfying spot for those weekend morning meals.
A great little bakery serving baked goods and pastries, breakfast, lunch, coffee, and afternoon tea. Expanded a few years back to include a seating area, which really opened the place up to new services.
The coffee is good, Dazbog, and the pastries are to die for (pun intended). The breakfast and brunch is great, and eating in the late morning with a group is truly a treat. The atmosphere is nice, with large windows and plush sofas. Dozens of devilish trinkets litter the area, making it feel more "home-y".
I recommend, for lighter eating, the mildly sweet powdered cinnamon roll. Great for a snack.
Devil's Food is located on Old South Gaylord in Washington Park.
this place is amazing. it's the kind of joint you take your guests to. it's definitely the only devilish thing you want to associate yourself with.

This restaurant is overrated...The food was very ho hum, perhaps its the location that makes it so popular, nice neighborhood. The eggplant I had was underdone, the bread not as appetizing considering its a bakery, and as for the desserts, nothing here that isn't available at Whole Foods, or even King Soopers high end baked goods from Aspen Bakeries or Vollmers.
positively sinful! (i wonder how many times that joke's been made...)
