Eleven years.
Eleven years they've been in business and I'm just discovering them now? I feel like such a late bloomer. Better late than never though, right?
YOU MUST GET THE RED VELVET CUPCAKE. REPEAT. GET THE RED VELVET CUPCAKE.
Why? Simply put, it has just the right amount of everything. The red cake is fluffy and moist. The cream cheese frosting is not overly decadent, but melts in your mouth. The two key ingredients complement one another perfectly. My only regret was buying just one cupcake.

Bottom line:
Destination will be seeing more of my family and I in 2012. I can't wait to try out the rest of their goodies- morning bun, bread pudding, tarts, pies, & cakes.
We'll be back. -

WOooO is so what totally describes this place. I just found this place refered to me by a friend of mine and I'm happy but sad she did. Trying to lose weight this year but this place just change my goals to next year. I got the croissants and its so ridiculous. First of all I got them because when trying a new place my first thought is yelp it! Find out what's popular and what's good.. Finding out people compared these to croisants from Paris Ummm yes please! ill take all versions. great flakey , layered, fluffy and yes BUTTERY croissant. I hear there hand made from scratch here. No machine but the mixer and strong arms of the little girl in the afternoon. I'm sure that's the flavor of real skills and a genius secret recipe the owner created. I have yet to try everything but the croissants everyone has been reviewing about its on point! THEE BEST CROISSANTS! THEE BEST CROISSANTS. Do I have to type that again? Haha
hows was the service you wonder? Service was very friendly and warm.just like the first vibe i got from this place. The young lady in the morning starts my mornings off to a good start. I get this positive energy thinking hmm she's nice wish there were more people like her around in this world. Actually glen park is a great neighborhood. All the grumps like the guy below who doesn't appreachate friendly service and who obviously like frozen or safeway processed and full of nasty preservatives should move to a different neighborhood. Ill be looking for a place around here just to smell the free warmth and goodies this bakery has to offer. Yummmmmmm!
Foodnetwork! Discover this place already! Your missin out! 11 years this place has been arpund.. long live destination baking company  your new #1 FAN -

Greasy croissant for $2.25?
I love the idea of a neighborhood bakery so when I recently moved to Glen Park I was excited to find Destination Baking Co one block from my house. Returning home from a 6 AM (!) meeting, the bakery was the obvious destination. Now - you cannot get decent rolls in California (think Vienna, Paris, Venice) - so I went for a croissant. The lady at the counter talked to the next customer behind me over my head - "honey this and honey that" while not even looking at me - at least I learned that the guy behind me and his family have the flu and the lady serving food caught a cold on the airplane back home last week. The croissant came fresh from the oven - a bit too dark and a bit to greasy - butter should be inside the dough not on your fingers. And all this for $2.25 - "here's your change love" (same hand touching the money that touches the food).
Alternative: get the deep frozen croissants from Milk Pail, Mountain View - still looking for a source in the City - and bake them yourself - takes 15 mins. $5 for 6 croissants. I will try to convince the cheese place on Chenery to carry them. -

I am that person who leaves all shopping for food and gifts until Christmas Eve. That's right, Christmas Eve. Which means I am NOT in a very good mood every December 24th.
I have one food assignment and that is to find my husband mincemeat pie. After 15 years of searching every Safeway and Lucky's to find the elusive Mrs. Smith's mincemeat pies for our holiday table, I have grown to loathe it.
This year, something different happened. I was driving by Glen Park and something made me turn up Chenery. Something made me find an empty parking spot right in front of a business I had never seen before. It was called Destination Baking Company. *cue angels singing*
I stepped inside and the aromas of pastry, cinnamon and sugar wafted over me like olfactory snowfall. I saw a tray of pies. I asked, "What kind of pies do you have left today?", never hoping to be so lucky...
Mincemeat. He said mincemeat. He pulled out the pie and showed it to me. Flaky, perfectly baked crust with sugar crystals on top. Beautiful! Christmas was saved!
I bought the pie, and 2 chicken empanadas (my husband's other favorite food), and a sugar cookie to soothe my frazzled nerves.
Needless to say, everything was DELICIOUS. The empanadas were full of meat and vegetables, with a buttery crust, and heated up perfectly in about 10 min in the oven. But the pie, oh the pie. Perfect filling, perfect crust. Such a mincemeat pie has never crossed my path. It has now gone from a dessert I dread, to one I will crave.
Follow your instincts next time you are near Glen Park and let them lead you to Destination Baking Company. You won't be sorry! -

Searched for this destination per Yelp - thanks!
Love this type of hole-in-the-wall type of neighborhood shops. The choc croissant (more choc than some other bakeries!), red velvet cupcake (cake not too sweet, but heavy (weight) was well balanced w/ the cream cheese ), empanadas and samosa were all pretty good -- I would definitely come here more often when I'm in the area. Oh yeah, the organic coffee's are good too...plus compl. refill...complemented w/ friendly service by the guy behind the counter. I need to try all of their baked goods in the future... :) -

Great Little Find!
This bakery has seasonal ingredients - which in SF is like, well, totally necessary to even be on my radar.
Every week the menu changes...which means, you'll always get to try something new there if you're up for the challenge of it. OR...you can go for the staple croissant or brownie if you're looking for a classic treat with mouth-watering abilities.
My favorite so far is their personal quiches which are get to take home and pair with a fresh green salad for any meal throughout the day.
Also - they have amazing empanadas and samosas as well which people often overlook when they come in and are mesmerized by the adorable cookies and cupcakes in the case.
I will be coming back here until the guilt of my tummy growing inches and inches starts to get to me. -

I stopped here one morning and tested out the goods with a croissant.
It was literally heaven, in my mouth hole.
Convinced my husband to walk here from Noe for a baked treat this Saturday morning, and he devoured 2 bear claws and made sure we got a loaf of sourdough. I tried the almond croissant and it was AMAZING.
I literally don't think I'll be able to eat croissants from anywhere else ever again.
I'm ruined forever. In the best way possible.
I won't even take a star away for the incredibly rude customer who parked her dusty Mercedes blocking two driveways and then cackled at us while we sat on the bench that she had "been doing it for 20 years".
Yeah you definitely look like you've been going there for 20 years lady. *smirk* -
Review from Lisa K.
Excellent bakery. Definitely a highlight is that after 2 pm, the morning pastries are "buy one, get one free," which I did not know until it was mentioned to the customer before me. Brilliant.
My favorites were the sticky buns with mixed nuts (such a generous helping of nuts!) and the cinnamon rolls, which I guess tells you I like that dough of theirs. The cinnamon rolls had a nice almost frosting to them which was very vanilla-y. The cherry danish seemed a tiny bit stale and I would have preferred a jammier fruit spread out more. The dried fruit scone (you can choose which dried fruit you want) definitely was not sweet - this was the only one that I tried a little bit of and was not tempted to have any more. I was surprised that I didn't like the sour cream pecan coffee cake too much - it was TOO sweet and gooey for me but maybe would work for others. I liked that there was a no dairy option (Italian coffee cake) but my lactose averse partner has not told me how it is yet. -

Nice neighborhood bakery. They have savory and sweet treats that you can have in their bright storefront. They do the flaky types of pastries really well. I'd totally go back.

tried this place for the first time and was disappointed...after reading about the yummy, flakey croissants i went and got one and it was bad. not even remotely close to croissants in paris...and i've had better croissants around sf also.
there was no flakey-ness, and a bit greasy on the fingers. i ate as much as i could, thinking somewhere in the middle of the croissant i'd be proven wrong, but i got through two-thirds and tossed the rest. i know it wasn't stale either - saw them take it right off the baking rack. oh wells. -

Worst. Cupcake. Ever. Inedible. Was in the garbage after the first bite, and I had to keep myself from spitting out the first bite. And for the price of this awful, dry, tasteless doorstop, I could buy a box of cake mix and make them myself.....and they would taste immeasurably better. Honestly, how does a bakery make cupcakes this bad? The taste and texture made me think that it was over 5 days old. I've made cupcakes many, many times before, and even after 3 days, they were still moist (albeit, not as moist as the day they were baked.) They keep everything refrigerated, which I appreciate, but that doesn't help the texture of the doorstop. I mean "cupcake". I also purchased a banana cream tartlet, a fruit tartlet, an apple streusel tartlet, and two slices of their fruit galette (I can't remember what fruit, specifically.
The banana tartlet was okay, good banana flavor, but the crust tasted old. Had a weird aftertaste. The fruit one (according to my boyfriend) was pretty good. We haven't tried the galette or apple tartlet yet.....I'm sure the apple one will be his breakfast today.
Overall, I would suggest bypassing DBC, and heading over to Canyon Market for one of their freshly prepared/delivered desserts near the registers. -

I'm sure that this small bakery is a neighborhood favorite and has a lot of regulars (because I heard the owner telling that to his new employee during training) but for non-regulars like me, their pastries, cookies, and coffee aren't anything to come back for.
I was very disappointed with the chocolate chip cookie...it was too sweet, too dry, and tasting very generic. No soul in that cookie at all :(
The Nectarine and Cherry Galette was tart, sweet, and crunchy from the turbinado sugar sprinkled on the crust, but I was very unsatisfied that there was BARELY any fruit in it. That pastry needs to contain about 3 times more fruit filling than it currently does. The crust was really dry too. So not worth $4.50.
I also really wanted to try their Peach Pie, but they only sell entire pies, not individual slices. Noooo. -
Review from Julia D.
I came here the day I failed my driving test, but the muffin was still very good. The staff seems to be very regular and are very nice to the customers. I once got cupcakes here for a party and they were standard and not super expensive. I don't know why I don't come here more often because it's right near my house and on my way to work.

I am so glad I found this place! They have truly delicious chocolate chip cookies (put them in the microwave for about 10 seconds before eating!) and delectable seasonal treats, like their pumpkin-ginger cookies. Full disclosure: their cupcakes are not the greatest. Oh, and the people who work there are very friendly!

Destination is a warm, neighborhood bakery with great chocolate croissants, occasional homemade breads, and a solid cup of coffee. As others have noted, their pastries do tend to be on the dry, crumbly side, which is too bad. Still, the service is always warm and friendly, the space is inviting (if very small), and the business is decidedly local.
When you're in the Village (that's Glen Park, people), be sure to stop by and get a chocolate croissant and a cup of coffee. -

I've only tried the fruit tartlets but if those are any indication of the quality of the goods here then I'm SOLD. The berries were absolutely fresh, vanilla custard was delicious (you can see the fresh vanilla beans..talk about quality!) and the tart was the perfect ratio of buttery and sweet. It was so satisfying.
Prices are a little on the high side but like I said, the quality is superb and thus it's worth it.
This mom and pop bakery is very modest. No fancy decor.. minimalism at its finest. The space is really open; they basically set up a counter and a few small tables and chairs right in the front of the kitchen. I really enjoyed the feel of it though. I wouldn't mind coming back here on a sunny day to chat it up with a friend over a latte and one of their delicious baked goods. :) -

Driving round Glen Park, not a hood I know well. See sign "LOCAL APPLE PIE". Looks like they're serious.
180 the car. Park at fire hydrant, run in.
Heart-stopping moment as I see The Pie, and she sees me.
It's love.
"PIE! PIE! PIE!" I shout to the man, and point excitedly, hopping from one foot to the other like a crackhead with the DT's
"$18 sir."
".. PIE!!!" I wave $20 at him, grab pie+fork, and hotfoot it out the door, leap into getaway vehicle, and we zoomed off to a cheap motel room on Ocean beach for an afternoon of carnal pleasure.
* Best Apple Pie in the city * (or at least as good as the very best French-style Patisserie apple treat, but this is more home-style).
Big Chunky pieces of real Tasty Apple, hint of cinnamon, wonderful crust.
Oh god it was good. I saved some till the next day and it was even better. I love this city. -

Wow, talk about time travel. I last reviewed Destination Baking Company back when I first started Yelping. That was a long time ago, and this update is long overdue.
Destination Baking Company currently operates a stall at the nearby Glen Park Village Farmers Market on Sunday mornings so I've been enjoying their baked goods even more lately. The selections change every week so if you're looking for a specific item that isn't featured at the farmers market you can just walk up to the actual bakery a few blocks away.
I've noticed they usually have three to four types of breads, a sweet selection such as their chocolate chip cookies and seasonal baked goods using farm fresh produce. I've never tried their breads because I'll admit I'm a bit bias in favoring the Acme Breads store at the Ferry Building, but I usually go for Destination's seasonal goods.
Several weeks ago I was floored by the beauty of their Apricot Galette (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) so I just had to try one (or two). These aren't as mind numbing gorgeous as the fruit galettes featured at Frog Hollow Farms, but I've got a bit of bias there also that I'll cover in an upcoming review. For most of this apricot season I've noticed that the little stone fruits aren't quite as sweet as they have been in recent years. These galettes featured at Destination Baking use apricots from the ApricotKing orchards in Hollister. The galettes had a good flaky crust with some coarse sugar sprinkled on top. The quartered apricots swimming in their own juices inside the pastry were quite soft, but as expected the fruit was on the tart side. In this case the coarse sugar granules on top really helped to tone down the tartness of the fruit. In my opinion these galettes were very good.
The Gravenstein apple season just opened a mere two weeks ago, and right on cue Destination Baking featured fresh Gravenstein Apple Galettes (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) in their farmers market stall this past week. Similar to the apricot galettes in preparation I found the apples a bit on the soft side, but the fresh flavor of the Gravensteins stood out well.
What won me over in taste however was Destination's Potato Pesto Flatbread (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). These were absolutely incredible after I wrapped them up in foil and baked them back up hot. The golden flatbread was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy inside like a really good pizza dough. These are layered on top with a generous spread of pesto, thinly sliced skin-on red potatoes and a mild white cheese. I bought two at the farmers market, but had I known these were so incredible in taste I would have bought more.
I enjoyed the first one just on its own, then paired the second one with a ragout I created using fresh oyster mushrooms from Far West Fungi, white turnips from County Line Harvest, fresh beans from Dwelley Farms, zucchini, onions and fresh herbs from Smith Family Farms and tomatoes from Frog Hollow Farms. So darn good that I'm loading up on the Potato Pesto Flatbread the next time I visit Destination Baking.Listed in: Bakery Fresh

I have been 'shopping' around for a favorite bakery these days. You know, a place to get that extra buttery perfectly flakey croissant and a cup of coffee to start one's day? I think I've found it. I've been to this place a handful of times, and I have never been disappointed. I usually get their croissants, because they are the closest to the ones I remember in Paris. I also picked up their baguette, hoping to find a place that can make those baguettes that are ubiquitous in France but impossible to find in the US, even in foodie San Francisco. Well, their baguette isn't it, either, but not bad! I got mine still warm from the oven. It was sour dough and I am afraid I am not a fan of sour dough (I know, sacrilege!), but theirs was yummy and fresh. The coffee was also nice and I appreciate how they put out soy milk for those of us who prefer it. I also appreciate that they don't charge extra for a 'splash' of soy, too.
The only down side is that they are a bit out of the way, but maybe that is a good thing for those who live nearby. -

Their pastries are pretty good but could be better. I tried their hot cross bun, cheese twist and chocolate croissant. All tasted fine but the quality could have been improved.
The chocolate croissant was slightly too soft/mushy inside (too raw); I would have preferred it flakier, more layered and with a greater distribution of chocolate.
The cheese twist had nice flavor but was a little too greasy. The hot cross bun was a little dry but had a refreshing flavor. -

Destination is a small bakery with a decent variety of offerings for the size. But I would not necessarily recommend it, at least not a trip out of your way, because I'm not a huge fan of the food. When I buy something from a bakery, I want to take a bit and think "darn am I glad I bought this because I could not make this at home." My feeling every time I get something from Destination is "well, I coulda spent that money on the ingredients at Safeway and had four of the same thing in an hour."
Here are my specific complaints. and all of these apply to every trip I've made to Destination: 1- The pastries are drier than I like. In fact, I almost always need a glass of milk or two to wash the pastries down. 2- This may be a factor of timing, but the pastries are never warm. I'm not counting this complaint in my rating. 3- The pastries don't taste like anything super-special. For me, that's a huge deal. A substantial portion of my belly came from cinnamon rolls at a bakery in Vernon Hills, Illinois, and I think that quality of cinnamon role should be a good baseline. Basically, it's a personal failing and character flaw that I expect the world's best of something to be an appropriate baseline.
The reason I ranked this two is that the definition of three stars is "A-ok." The definition of two is "Meh. I've experienced better." And, in that description, Destination is absolutely two stars. -

I went here bright and early one morning after having to move my car for stupid street cleaning. Since I was up anyway I decided to try this place out and went inside to buy some pastries. I walked in and saw many different types of pastries and baked goods but the things that stood out to me was their pecan roll and their sticky buns. I immediately ordered them and went home happy with them fresh and warm in my hands. It was sooo good. The sticky bun was still warm and was just doughy goodness. The pecan roll had mountains of pecans and was amazing. Be prepared when you eat these bad boys, get a napkin ahead of time, you will definitely need it =]

Cute neighborhood bakery with the most buttery croissants on the planet (read: not a bad thing). A few tables dot the front, windowed area of the bakery and provide for a nice place to nibble on your croissant, sip your tea, and chat with a friend on a sunny Saturday morning.
4 stars for delicious baked goods and neighborhood atmosphere (when I was there, a woman came in to drop off some Quince she picked off her tree. Doesn't get more neighborhood-y than that!)

When the low carb diet was at the height of its popularity, I would waddle into Destination Baking Co & wonder how anyone could give this up. A lack of will power never tasted so good.
Though DBC has a large selection of baked good (forbidden, tempting, luscious baked good), I've only tried a few things:
* DBC sells *the best* chocolate croissant: it has a bubbly, sugary top & flakey, buttery layers surrounding gobs of chocolate in every bite.
* Marzipan (almond paste) is one of those things I've loved since I was a kid, so my heart does tiny somersaults in my chest when I see it in pastry. DBC's marzipan tart with jam has a dense crust & a gooey sweet raspberry filling.
* They give away day old bread on Mondays for free...I've walked out with nine grain bread & challah loaves which were very soft & delicious. DBC's bread "ages well!"
I adore all the eateries & shops in Glen Park & DBC is no exception. Friendly staff, ample street parking, cozy neighborhood & after 2pm, breakfast goods are buy 1, get 1 free. Perfect place to reek havoc on your diet, which you can always restart tomorrow.Listed in: glen park...

The owner, Joe and the entire Destination Bakery crew were like family to us when we lived on Chenery Street in Glen Park for a few years... and not just because the baked goods were OUT OF THIS WORLD. It's the friendly type of neighborhood business that you feel great supporting. But seriously, Joe's stuff is incredible. I'd put it up against anything. For breakfast, try a latte and a cinnamon roll. The chocolate croissants are also spectacular. The muffins are great... and if you go in the fall, be sure to try the pumpkin muffins.
Get a snickerdoodle cookie or a cheese twist stick for an afternoon snack. They also have chicken samosas which you can take home and heat up for lunch or dinner (they're my favorite thing in the place). We also get our thanksgiving pies there - best pies we've ever had.
I can't recommend Joe's bakery enough! -

I'm indecisive and when I venture into bakeries, I tend to just stare for a while. Everything always looks so good and pretty. That same situation applied to my last visit here. Alas, the staff was incredibly patient. We ordered a strawberry tart and red velvet cupcake to go. We ate it a few hours later, but it was broken in the paper bag. TOTAL SAD FACE.
Well, that wouldn't have stopped us from eating it anyway. It tasted reallly good! I especially liked the strawberries on the strawberry tart. I found this place by accident. Who knew that there was such a cute bakery up on that hill? I wish we bought more pastries, I want to try everything. -

Traditional old bakery in Glen Park.
This is a well established bakery in Glen Park.
It offers trays of variety pastries and fresh breads daily.
It has an open kitchen, three small round tables and sitting benches by windows for patrons.
We had the fruity scones, apricots muffins and sticky nuts cinnamon buns so far. They were all very good. We specially liked the sticky nuts cinnamon bun - a cluster of fancy nuts on the bun as the name for it - very very tasty.
My husband had Italian coffee cakes during one early morning walk to the bakery by himself. He said, it's so delicious, it's soft and has bits of apply in it.
Almond bear claw is one of my favorite pastries, unfortunately they had been sold out every morning before we got there so it must be everybody's favorite too.
The coffee is a real good deal.
For $1.00 you get a big bowl,- I mean a big bowl - an honest goodness aromatic smooth rich flavoring coffee; it reminded me of Brazilian coffee when I was in Brazil many many years ago before the invention of instant coffee. -

Although the store is rather small and never have enough seats for customers who really want to hang around, it seems to work perfectly for its style - stay-home moms, dads, retired folks love hanging out for chats, occasionally you will see folks sitting outside, enjoying the sun, sipping their coffee, taking a bite of their scrumptious baked goods while reading the newspaper. Very relaxing and low-key environment.
I'm not a big fan of super sweet baked goods but I have a weak spot for banana nut bread. Most of the banana nut bread I'd had were rather dry, crumbly and in room temperature. Not so at this place. Their banana nut bread was so moist it literally melts the moment your tongue presses it against the roof of your mouth. It's so incredibly tasty you want to savor each bite. I cannot help but smile when I'm done with my last bite, thinking this piece of bread just made my morning!
I had always been a skeptic when it comes to buying coffee at a bakery; don't quite know why. But I tried their coffee one day when I ran out of coffee at home. Since I brought my cup, they only charged me a dollar for a big cup of coffee. Speaking of taste first, it's strong enough for me to taste its freshness (I've been drinking coffee for over 20 years and have been drinking it black for the past 4 or 5). Not only that, it has enough caffeine to give me a slight jolt! That's rare.
All in all, great place! I hope, when you try their coffee and baked goods, you will have the same feelings. -

I walked into this place for the first time today. The very nice lady behind the counter waited for me to decide what I wanted, then after I paid she gave me a brochure with all the things they make (sandwich bread on Friday's, woohoo!). She introduced me to Joe, the owner/baker of the place. Everyone seemed very nice, but unfortunately I forgot to get the lady's name.
I got a couple of cookies and a baguette for my first time. The baguette was still warm from the oven! The cookies were not too hard, not too soft...just right! -
