This is a review of food and delivery.

I just moved to Brooklyn Heights from Sunset Park. While I loved Sunset Park, a year of having only the option of pizza, Chinese, or Mexican began to wear on me. So, the first week of my living here I have been ordering food left and right.

The other day I decided to surprise boyfriend with coffee and cheesecake for breakfast delivery.

It arrived after about 45 min. Apparently (I didn't see), a very well-dressed WOMAN delivered it.

My chocolate croissant (they were out of beignets) was good but not as orgasm-inducing as my boyfriend's cheesecake.

Can't say enough good things about this place.. Locally owned business, family business, the guy has his wife and son working there.. Recently had his Financier.. Wow, holy crap.. You get a tiny one with each coffee you buy, but I would totally spring for the big one..

They also have this dessert called a Chocolate Tower.. It's essentially creme brule that is surrounded by choclate mouse and then is covered in a hard chocolate shell. This in then served in two sizes,.. One bite size the other big enough to eat with a fork,.

I highly recommend getting the bite sized piece...

Again, those damn Canele.. Amazing.

A big plus to living in the deadzone that is the edge of Clinton Hill and Bedford? Desserts by Michael Allen. Insane... everything. Cupcakes, madeleines, croissants, ice cream, cookies, seriously. Can you go wrong? Pretty much no. I wouldn't necessarily go there for lunch, but for any damn fine dessert or baguette, and you will find me there.

The family that runs the place is so friendly; if you live in the hood, make friends. The son that works behind the counter often knows his stuff and is generally a really nice guy. If I EVER have a custom cake order, it WILL be places at Desserts by Michael Allen. Otherwise, they will continue to be my neighborhood crack-like dessert treasure chest.

OK the first time I came for the red velvet cupcake (and just dont remember why I thought it was unimpressive) so I went by to try again and they had none!!!!. So opting for the lemon poppy loaf was not the best move as it went down like a lemony brick. I wouldn't give up on local businesses. But for me to give them 5 Stars they will need to do a little more convincing with free samples.

I hate to be the first to poop on and soil the pristine 5-star status of  Desserts by Michael Allen (especially since it's a family-operated local joint), but I just have to report that the items we got the other day just weren't worthy of 5-stars.

The red velvet cupcake not only didn't make me jizz in my pants, but they weren't even very velvet-y.  It was just all right.

Okay, so I realize that not all desserts will make me jizz in my pants, but I can entertain thoughts of anticipation of jizzing in my pants from a place that boasts a perfect 5-star rating, right?

What's worse, the creme brule were burnt on the bottom.  Where's the quality control?

I hope that our experience at Desserts by Michael Allen was an anomaly, and suggest that you try for yourself.

OK...I only tried one thing of theirs...and I am in love ;-) We happened to stumble on the Fulton Pop-Up Flea and they had a table. We were sort of milling around the table when a friendly woman approached us and started to tell us about all their fabulous desserts. I have NO will power when it comes to desserts. So then she offered me a small tasting of the canele (accent over the last e) and I thought...I have died and gone to canele heaven. I told my BF that it was good and I guess he trusted me, so he bought one, and he took a bite into it and then it was gone!! He said it was soooo goood...and I agree. That was the only thing we had, but that was a very positive first impression, will definitely have to go back and try more things!!

Two words: CHOCOLATE TOWER. It's a tiny cake-shaped tower of delicious chocolate goodness with -get this- crème brûlée inside. It's amazing! It's also pretty inexpensive (about $5 per confection).

The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they have some seating available. It's convenient if you live in the neighborhood, but I think it's so tasty and cheap that it's be worth the ride on the C train on its own. Try it! :)

An awesomely friendly Husband wife team and great desserts make this a Neighborhood Bakery.

They help support my developing beignet habit and make awesome cakes for when you want to impress with something that tastes amazing without going bankrupt. I've also seen them prepping Wedding scale cakes as well so they have youcovered no matter the cake size.

Have the Ruglach for sure.

This place is lovely! The French Quarter has arrived in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn and the desserts, paninis and soups are ALL THAT. Major bonus: They offer fresh baked bread, which is impossible to get in our neighborhood.

Free WiFi is another bonus, as is the smooth music and super-friendly proprietors. Get the to Desserts by Michael Allen - Esp on Sunday, which offers Jazz, Beignets, and Coffee all for $3.95.

Can't say enough about how good the confections are at this place. The red velvet cupcakes put Cakeman Raven to shame! Also it's a nice spot to chill out. Get a fresh baked loaf of bread. A wonderful new addition to the 'hood

Two of my big wishes in life is to live walking distance to a friendly bar and a good bakery. Since Outpost opened up I've gotten half my wish (although they only serve beer and wine). Last week Desserts by Micheal Allen opened at 1015 Fulton Street and I've gotten my second wish granted in a big way. This is a family owned place, Micheal and his wife and son work there, it has a pleasant family owned feeling inside. You are greeted by name when you walk in and Micheal is pretty liberal with his samples of hot chocolates and desserts. The shop has four tables looking out on the deconstructed and hopefully, reconstructed Fulton street. It's a nice place to sit and sample before buying. There is Wi-Fi there, but we didn't try it, we're so close to home, we can check our e-mail and walk back if we wanted. We've been buying bread most nights on our trip home from the subway . The sourdough is moist and tangy, firm enough to slice into very thin slices with a good bread knife. Paired with a good goat cheese and it's all you need for lunch. The baguettes are light and airy with a crisp and crumbly crust, perfect with jam or butter. The onion bread seems to be made from the same dough as the baguettes, it's mild flavor accentuates the fresh onion accent and texture. We have also been gradually, or maybe not so gradually, sampling the sweet side of the menu. Pain au chocolate is as good, or better, than you can get in Paris. The pastry is infused with small airy butter flavored pockets and the chocolate is tempered just right, not crunchy at room temperature, but creamy. The almond croissant, like the pain au chocolate, are light and buttery, but instead of chocolate, it is layered with almond paste, slivered almonds and dusted with powdered sugar. On  Saturday, Micheal offered us samples of his fresh baked ruggela, they were little works of art, cinimmon raisons and butter with a coffee cake type topping.

As we eat our way through Micheals menu, the thing that stands out for me is his use of flavors. There's nothing cloying, or goopy or overwhelming. Everything is balanced, I can taste all the ingredients, and they all work together without clashing. It's a very thoughtful way of cooking you don't see much anymore, at least not commercially. I'm am so glad he's in the neighborhood.

Looking forward to trying more!

Great addition to the neighborhood. So far I've tried multiple fruit tarts, tiramisu, red velvet cupcakes, pain au chocolate (eek, french spelling is not my forte...hah), chocolate chip cookies, and a bunch of different types of chocolates (most alcohol infused! Jack + chocolate= best thing ever). What can I say? The sweet tooth gene runs in the fam. Oh, and the coffee. Everything has been phenomenal. Michael Allen clearly has an impressive background in the industry and knows what he's doing, and also has great creativity in his craft. They're always incredibly warm and friendly every time I stop in as well. It's nice to see, also, that they're adding some things on the savory side-- some sandwiches mainly-- to the menu, and the place seems more inviting to sit and stay every time I come in. I look forward to coming by and staying sometime. Unfortunately, they're closed on Mondays, my one day off, and, as of yet, I've only managed to stop in for some goodies before heading to work. Ah well, some Saturday I'll just have to haul my ass out of bed earlier. It'll certainly be worth it.

I am thrilled to have them in the neighborhood. I stopped in a few days ago and bought an assortment of desserts to bring to a dinner party. All of them were fantastic and the service was friendly and helpful. I even got a complimentary chocolate! Everyone needs to check this place out. The breads look really yummy too..
