I came here for an all-expense paid retreat a few weeks ago, so I can't speak on the pricing. However, I did enjoy my stay. The service was good and the staff was friendly.
I think what I enjoyed most about this place is their faux-fancy decor and appearance. My friend and I kept ourselves quite amused by making jokes and taking pictures of ourselves being "fancy," when I don't believe the place was as expensive or as classy as they try to seem.
With the intense floral wallpaper in the hallways and the murals in the "sunken lounge," I could not take this place seriously. My friend and I shared a room and we could not get over the fact that the huge four poster bed had a canopy over it. Furthermore, when we had our buffet-style meals, we'd sit down and a waiter would come over and offer orange juice or iced tea, depending on the meal, which seemed pretty unnecessary (and thus, faux-fancy).
Some really random people work here and it really makes me wonder.. We saw people old and young. Once, when we were having a dance party in our room, a guy knocked on our door and asked us to turn it down. I don't believe he was even older than we were, and I found it peculiar that he would be working there and ironic that this kid was showing up at our door saying, "I really like your music, but you're disturbing the other guests."
Overall, I had a great time. I can't wait to come back here for the same retreat next year!

Met a friend for a late dinner at the hotel's restaurant, the Fox & Hounds. I asked our server for a random shot, and she brought over possibly the worst red headed slut shot ($7) I've ever taken. You do NOT go to this bar to develop a buzz. On the bright side, I finished my friend's glass of wine, which wasn't bad.
The interior of this Desmond Hotel - there's one in Albany, NY - is classic, very old-money, with accents that I found creepy. From the four-poster beds to the diseased yellow light fixtures, I'd be scared to spend the night here[1]. This hotel isn't my cup of tea, but it might be yours. If I absolutely HAD to stay here, the beds are bouncy, at least.
[1] If my friend reads this review, she'll probably crucify me.

This is one of the nicest hotels that I have ever been to. Definitely first class all of the way!
The rooms are beautiful and all have complimentary internet service plus there is a business center that has 4 computers with internet access, printers and scanner- all at no charge.
I travel alot for my job so I have been in a lot of "4 star" hotels- and some of them can't touch the Desmond's service!
The rooms are nice- the King beds are 4 poster with canopy.
Definitely a must try!

Great hotel if you miss sleeping in your Grandma's bed and if a 30 foot long wire is an acceptable replacement for "wireless" (now that's mean, sorry Grandma).
Came here for a dear friends' wedding. The reception and the service was out of this world. The food was excellent. The drinks were all very strong, which I go more for the overall flavor than the alcohol content--bloody Mary was not done correctly. But, a good selection of beers, which I loved. I did find the hotel decor to be "old money" although a bit stuffy. I didn't like the clashing colors of the decor and the stuffy canopy on the bed that seemed to "ooze" dust. But, the bed was very comfortable and the room was extremely clean, all the furniture was dusted and bathroom was spotless. Being a perpetual business traveler, I think I was a bit put-off by "not so modern" accomodations that I'm used to, especially on the West Coast. However, I did have a good overall experience and would recommend this hotel to anyone in the area.

Somehow I was led to believe this was a luxury hotel near QVC studios. Unfortunately I was wrong on the "luxury" assumption - our suite's rollaway bed had the most hideous bed linens, and there were not enough power outlets for business travelers. But in its defense, the customer service was great and tney bailed us out of being stuck when absolutely no taxi company was open at 1am and they had someone drive to pick us up. Their shuttle service is excellent - everything else would send you back to Philly for luxury accomodations.
