Go for the wisteria! A rose is a rose is a rose...but that awesome wisteria covering the Romanesque veranda on entrance is spectacular in bloom. The walls of the arbor shout "Smell my jasmine!" as the ripe clusters of purple grape-like fronds sway in the spring breeze. Or if you're an olfactory-challenged weirdo that hates jasmine, check the bloom-time on the rose garden or the camelia forest. Both of these, as nice as they may be, are for the rose or camelia devotees but not this girl. Both of these take a particular love I apparently lack. Maybe it's the thorn of the rose or the mess of huge camelia leaves rotting on the ground but I'm much more into the Japanese Zen-like culture, the native desert garden and the laid-back ambience of this tucked-away public garden. It's well worth a visit...especially when the wisteria is in bloom. Now go, get on outta here.

From a gardener's point of view who has returned after about 20 years, it was major disappointment. It has the same "plain city park" look that it had back then. The most notable change is that the trees grew taller. Why even call it a botanical garden.
This is a small slice of heaven just above Glendale is a GREAT place to go on a spring or summer Sunday morning or afternoon to collect one's self and spend time away from silicon based entertainment (internet). There is a wonderful Japanese garden with pools of coy fish, a lake that is temporary home to a wonderful assortment of migratory birds, a rosarium and stage performances and music. I especially like this Passover/Pascal time of year with all the huge varieties of lilies in bloom.

Me & my family took my mother here for Mother's Day. It was a beautiful day out and the gardens were beautiful. However, since it was Mother's Day it was rather crowded and parking was hard to find. The roses were beautiful and in full bloom. It was a really nice place to take the family if you are into these things. Its $7 for admission plus additional fees for any guided tours. I recommend this place around April/May when the roses are blooming. We were a little late for the camellias as there were not more flowers. They have a restaurant and other snack vendors if you get hungry. They also have a marketplace to buy trinkets and other house decorating items.
i love love love this garden! it is such a great little find tucked away in la canada. except for the odd moment when an elderly caucasian man wanted to take a picture of me - in a japanese tea garden of all places - my experience here was truly amazing. it is peaceful, well maintained, and with just the right amount of rambunctious overgrowth in the camellia forests.
