A nice place to do wine tasting!  You get taste many unique and excellent wines for $5 like Cabernet Pfeffer and Negrette.  They have a car museum open the first Saturday every month.  The owner Pat is extremely friendly.  I had to become a wine club member here!

If you love Antipasto's in San Jose, Al's family owns this joint.

I have been meaning to come here with extended family (aka sister in law's boyfriend) since he knows the family. I finally got a chance to come here and this place does not disappoint.

For 25 bucks we got an amazing wine tasting spread and some tasty goodies to accompany the wines.

Note: I do not consume alcohol but I do go on wine tasting adventures..
The food was stellar and everything was done in house
    1. The smoked turkey with B and R apricot spread was a great start
    2. The pulled pork sandwiches were my second course
    3. The pasta with mushrooms and meat sauce was the third course
    4. LAMB WONTONS with a blueberry negrette (negrette= wine!) reduction was my favorite
    5. pork belly... two words that always go good together

If you like ports/sweet wines this is a place to go

I did end up getting some bottles for family and coworkers...

    Beautiful location
    1. Once a month they do open up their old school car museum
    2. They support other local businesses (aka B and R apricots)
    3. SUPER FRIENDLY family (the winery has been in the family for 3 generations)
    4. It is a landmark.. the fault line runs through their warehouse
    5. At one time they held the Guiness World record for largest underground cellar

I've been going to DeRose since I moved to Hollister and love the wine and appreciate the laid back attitude of the whole crew.  The Negrette is excellent and I really appreciate the wine events because the wine and food just keep flowing!
I bring visitors in all the time and no one ever walks out empty handed. I also commend Al and Pat for their support of the local community.  San Benito county is under appreciated as a wine region-come on down and enjoy our wines, you will be glad you did!!

A refreshing place to do some wine tasting. Very friendly and down to earth staff who were more than happy to tell us about the history of their vines and wines and the building we were in. Really interesting stuff. Lots of pours for only $5 per person. Their zinfandel was awesome!

Also have a old car collection museum on site. It was closed for the day but my husband is a huge car enthusiast and they offered to take him back and show him a few of their cars. He was in heaven. We left with a few bottles and they waived our tasting fees.

If we lived closer, we'd probably be members. If you're in the area, it's a must!

    Last stop in the day.

Another warehouse style tasting room, however this one with some character. It was near closing, and many people, but they were very friendly and didn't rush anyone.

Huge sample of wines to try, both US as well as a ton of imported, which is a bit odd. I do somewhat prefer wineries that focus on less varietals.

Pat was super nice, and volunteering of info, despite it being end of day.

I wasn't bowled over by any of the wines, however it was late in the day, after a lot of heavy pours tasting, and I wasn't dumping much that day like I normally do, so the taste buds could have been a bit fried. Will do another review and do these guys earlier in the order.

I bought a bottle of old vines Syrah in appreciation.

    Definately worth a stop in.

Single best Negrette I have ever had.  Their Zin is what got me into mouthy wines.

Pat not only has one of the coolest moustaches on the planet, but he and Al (his son) are wine purists... not in the "wine spectator" crowd... but old world wine makers that do it for one reason... they love wine.  One of the oldest operated wineries in the US, it has only been owned by a couple different families since 1854.

They don't give a damn about anything other than wine... nada.  They don't care about wine spectator's points, they don't care about who endorsed what, what is on what wine list, and what restaurant is the hippest right now.

And I love it.  Their style is very much like provencal France, you know?  It is the people of the community getting together.. the winemakers, the farmers, the butcher.... living together, drinking together, eating together.... in celebration of life.  To eat and drink with friends is life!

AND.... Not to be seen at a hip new restaurant with an over-marketed, overvalued bottle of shite wine.

    To DeRose!!!!  Thanks guys!

Had their wines at a special tasting at Tessora's last night.  Really enjoyed all of them.  Loved the Chardonnay.  Nice and not overly oaked.  also had the Cab Franc, Cab Blend, two Zins and their Port.  All were excellent.  I look forward to going to the winery the next time I'm in the area.

A great place to go wine tasting.  Expert pairings and wonderful wine.  Their port is the best I've ever had.  Velvety and smooth.

Their tasting room is located in a large warehouse building with very high ceilings.  It is an interesting and informal place to try some good wines.  They close at 4pm and we arrived at 3:50 but were invited to stay as long as we liked.  This place is very friendly and laid back.

Love DeRose winery. Great wine, nice people, fun times, not ostentatious, very down home and in a beautiful location to boot.

I am a fan of big, bold wines and Derose definitely delivers.  Not for the faint of heart when it comes to wine, but I love the no-nonsense "tasting" room, the always friendly Deroses and old-vine, dryfarmed wines.  Great place to bring friends, but don't plan too many (if any) other stops because the tastings are more than generous.

What a nice surprise!  This was a warehouse, drabby and condemnable looking on the inside but the wine tasting experience was supurb!  There were so many wines to taste and the atmosphere was extremely friendly.  The Negrette was the best I have ever tasted and they had great deals on imported wines.  One person in our group actually stocked his wine cellar with these wines - so much variety!  Our favorite winery on our San Benito tour.
