Our Westie is seriously the cutest thing ever known to man. Black button nose and big inquisitive eyes. She's a fabulous companion, has a stellar personality and temperment, and is the best form of cheap entertainment that we could ever imagine.
Well, scratch the CHEAP part. Because in actuality, she's anything but cheap.
In fact, she's quite expensive. From her spring polka dot collar to her no-corn-wheat-filler baked dog food...she's a princess all the way. Though somehow I feel like she'd be just as happy in a pig trough filled with mud. Maybe it's me that's the princess and she's just along for the ride?
Anyway...as part of her expensiveness, she naturally has someting that afflicts many Westies. Skin problems. Westies are cute but super prone, especially in the dry state of California. She has seasonal allergies, which means either fall or spring or sometimes both...she'll be extra itchy and sometimes lose a patch of hair.
This spring it hit her quite hard and fast and regular methods weren't taking care of it, so we booked an appt at D4A to be seen. The last time we went was in 2006 when she first exhibited seasonal allergies...and in 2007 we were lucky and able to keep it at bay.
Dr. Jazic and the staff was wonderful today. It was our first time seeing Dr. J, we saw Dr. Lewis a few years ago who was very nice but we liked Dr. Jazic better. Well, I say WE but I think it was really ME as the pup was really just thinking 'How the #*!& do I get outta here before they poke me with a needle'.
He did some quick skin tests on her bumps, pronounced her afflicted with a bacterial infection to my non-surprise. Suggested various courses of treatment. I really like that here they give you all the options and then ask you what you want to do rather than just TELLING you.
However, like any good doggie parent, I took his expert advice, and came home with medicated anti-bacterial shampoo, a 30-day course of antibiotics, a light steriod/antihistamine to help the pup with the itchies through the next few weeks, and special pup-formulated fatty oils to supplement her no-corn-wheat kibble with.
Yep. Expensive. But she's so incredibly good natured about it all...and we love her. Oh, and she snuggles with us at night...so we'll gladly pay whatever it takes to make her feel better. Thanks to the excellent pup lovers at D4A for making that possible.

I brought my puppy in with severe skin issues. Dr. Jazic was quick to diagnose my puppy with demodex. I wish I would have come to him sooner! I could have saved hundreds of dollars in bills at my old vet clinic, which did little to improve my puppy's condition. Dr. Jazic told us that the other vet should have performed a simple skin scraping the minute he saw a puppy with skin issues. Dr. Jazic was extremely knowledgeable and personable. The office was very nice and comforting- it didn't even feel like we were at a veterinary clinic. The staff was extremely kind and patient with my aggravated puppy (even when he was growling!!). I truly feel like my puppy is in good hands with this staff and would definitely recommend this clinic to anybody!
