When I moved to San Francisco from Manhattan, I bemoaned leaving J. Sisters, my regular place for getting brazilian waxes. My worry was for naught as I discovered after my first visit to Dermaplus. Julie gave me a great wax, was so sweet and is really good at what she does. She even suggested some great weekend getaway spots down the coast. Oh, and not to mention the price can't be beat for the quality of the service you get.
Thanks to all of you Yelpers for your reviews on this place...Dermaplus was everything you all said it was and more.
Dermaplus Skin Solutions was recommend by my best friend as the ultimate Brazilian wax experience and I was not disappointed. I was advised to request Judy, who was lovely throughout this rather awkward procedure, as it was my first wax. The results were outstanding, without any residual pain and my skin felt smooth for weeks
I found the atmosphere to be clean, the decor was beautiful. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Skilled technicians, clean, friendly staff what else could you ask for?
I would recommend this spa to everyone who wants to go to experts and really get results. LOVED IT!

As most other spray-tanner-takers, I needed some color on my pasty-white body for a friend's wedding in Kauai & was lucky enough to find Dermaplus
Looking for somewhere close-to & same-day-as my my other prissy / vanity appt at Presidio Laser Medicine & especially looking for somewhere that would have an actual *person* do the spraying.......been burned by booth action in the past & wasn't about to take the chance of being all streaked or splotchy
Other prissy appt ended super-early so headed over right after & turns out I was the 1st appt of the day, so had the whole place to myself. Took about 15 min total from start to finish & the results were fantastic & I gotta tell ya, personal is the way to go - I'll never booth-it again!
Just enough color to not embarrass myself & stayed in place for the critical day - wish it had lasted a bit longer though - but whatever!
Will go again before my next HI wedding event......whenever that may be

Peggy Carlan, RN is a complete pro at laser hair removal and a trained medical professional: capable, pleasant, helpful, informative, and highly skilled. She is excellent and delightful -- all you could hope for and her permanent and top notch results are well worth the investment. I recommend her highly!!! Justine and Julie (owner) are very talented at what they do! Walking into Dermaplus is like a breath of fresh air. It's peaceful and relaxing and both girls are a hoot. I see Justine on a regular basis for brazilians, eyebrows, and facials. She's wonderful and makes the waxing as pain free as possible. The facials are to die for! Go there, go now!
By far the best bikini wax value I have found in San Francisco. Both Justine and Julie do a smooth and efficient brazilian wax for an affordable price. Where brazilian waxes in San Francisco are usually over $65, the $45 price point is great and the quality is better than many of the expensive waxes I have had. I only go to Dermaplus now!
I must have gotten super lucky, because I called DermaPlus after reading the reviews on Yelp on a Saturday afternoon, and the lady on the phone called me right back and said she had a spot open in fifteen minutes. I saw Julie that day, and she was flippin' fantastic. No pain, quick and easy, prices are extremely reasonable, and the service is great. This place is a real gem. I wish I still lived near SF so that I could go here more often!
I stupidly told all my friends about Julie and now I'm booking appointments with her a month in advance. But it's worth it. Her facials are scrumptious - my face glows for days afterward.

Confession: I can be a selfish asshole.
This story haunts me to this day: At ages 5 and 8, my older sister Carrie and I were at my friend's house and we were offered kit kats. There were two kit kats presented. I took one and as Carrie was reaching for the second one, my greedy little hand grabbed it away from her. AAAAAGH I HATE MYSELF!!
So, bitch move. Anyways. I have to move on. Though I wanted very much to not divulge where I get my facials, my sins of the past prevent me from doing so.

I almost don't want to write this review because its already so difficult for me to get an appointment. I've been seeing Julie for facials and waxing for probably 6 or 7 years now and I've yet to find a better aesthetician with better prices anywhere. She's top notch, professional, friendly and very talented.
I saw Kerry for a spray tan, I loved the spot and Kerry....and my results. My tan looked really natural. The only downfall was that the tan lasted a little less than a week and at $45 a session Ill be going back but more for special events or what not as apposed to a weekly thing. She made me feel really comfortable and will be going back next time Id like a natural glow!
I am a picky little bitch when it comes to my eyebrows. I know that shit can make or break your face. I'm also Persian so I've had the eyebrow talk since I inherited that uni-brow from my Dad.
My mother has always been the one to individually pluck each little hair with love from my face while I squirmed & cursed.
But now living almost 400 miles away I don't see her as often as the hairs try to reclaim their throne over my gorgeous eyes.
Since I insisted on tweezing & not waxing [the idea of hot wax near my eyes & long eyelashes sounds scary] & had trouble finding a place. After calling around, I set up an appointment with Justine who saw me the next day. She did an AMAZING job. She took her time & made me feel super comfortable. She also never pushed me to do anything I didn't want to.
I've been back & it feels a little like I'm cheating on my Mom, but I think she would be happy knowing I have gorgeously plucked eyebrows.
My one request: I wish their hours were either on Yelp, or on their website.

Reason 1:
Great experience. Justine at Dermaplus was super quick and talked the whole time to keep me comfortable during what is sometime and uncomfortable experience. As for technique, Justine used a lot more wax than I am used to = less strips and less ripping, which is great. Will have to wait and see about the ingrowns...My other spa spends way more time (30 mins to 1 hour) with me and uses a ton of strips/wax = more ripping, but is also very careful and painstaking when it comes to my delicate areas. Justine was a bit harsher in this regard, but she got better coverage and I was left with way less leftover hairs here and there.
Reason 2:
I was 30 minutes late for my appointment, on a busy Saturday, and Justine still took me!!! Who does that?! Amazing. I called when I was hitting traffic and Justine was very nice and calm and told me to take my time. When I did finally get there, she was so nice and sweet, I can't imagine going anywhere else.
Note: This salon is a little hard to find. You need to be buzzed in, spa is on the 2nd floor of 1728 Union.

Justine here is a brow miracle worker. I am super picky about my brows and after someone took a huge chunk out of mine (*@!!) and she helped me grow it back. She does a great job at tinting them also. Her facials are super relaxing ( I almost fall asleep...not easy cause I'm always wound up) and the beds are very very cozy and warm. Julie-the owner has also shaped my brows and she is great also. I love their space, the decor is cute and I love the colors. I also like that they take late appts on Thursdays.
I came here to get a personal spray tan before a big wedding weekend. I didn't want to look orange or streaky, so I was willing to dish out $45 for a great tan. The staff was totally welcoming and friendly. I was offered tea and cookies when I walked in. The whole tan spray process took about 15 minutes. I felt totally comfortable with the whole process. I was asked which solution I wanted (dark or light). I asked for the light because I'm pretty fair skinned. When I showered many hours later my tan looked terrific. I was golden brown but not orange at all.
Just be aware that it will come off on your sheets and towels but it washes out. I totally recommend DermaPlus.
I love this place -- a total gem. I'm a regular with Justine for all my waxing needs. She is fantastic. She makes me feel so comfortable, is quick and (relatively) painless, and does a fantastic job. I've also seen Julie, who is also amazing. Can't go wrong with this place.
Througout my life, I've only done those do-it-yourself clay masks at home. I never had the money nor saw any reason to see a professional to help me purse my pores of blackheads and help make my skin smooth, but with a wedding less than 3 months away and a dehydrated face, I had to seek some professional help!
I found dermaplus through yelp and made an appointment with Christine. I knew parking would be a b**** so i took the bus. I was half an hour late to the appointment because MUNI's bus drivers was PMS-ing and decided to point me in the wrong direction. I knew she was being a prick so I walked opposite of what she told me and eventually found the place.
Anyhoo, Christine was not one bit mad that I was late. Instead she took me to the room and told me that I would still be able to get my treatment, just less the time I was late.
I don't remember what she did exactly, because I somewhat fell asleep. =P I know she did extractions, a few masks (perhaps a moisture) and massaged my hands and feet, but I don't remember the treatment. Sorry!
I left feeling relaxed and happy. My face glowed and even my friends noticed my face was glowing. I went home to check my blackheads and they were visibily gone.
I immediately made another appointment 2 weeks before the wedding for my husband and myself. I made him go in against his will, but it was for the best. He came out with a cleaner nose, tighter pores, and a moisturized face! It took Christine's advice and opinion to get him to finally use moisturizer on his super dehydrated skin.
She help me do some more extractions, a peel, and a mask. She even told us to go back to her should we have any pimples show up a day before the wedding.
It's been several months sine this experience so I apologize for the lack of service names. I was glad I sought their services for my wedding and will do so for the future. I think I might try their eyebrow shaping next time.
I'm a cheater.
It just happened. I don't know what I was thinking. It was horrible, and I am racked with guilt. I can't eat, I can't sleep, and I am sure they are going to find out. And I will have to lie. And round and round the circle of trust we'll go, right?
But if you've never cheated before, let me tell you, it feels awesome. So new, and different. So taboo. So GOOD.
My regular esthetician, Sarah, was out of town, so I absolutely had to go to another person to get waxed. And you know what, I liked her more. Oh my god. I'm so sorry, Sarah. So very sorry. God forgive me.
Next time I go she's going to notice. I KNOW IT. A hair out of place. A slightly different shape. Something I forgot to "cover-up" from my affair. You know how cheating goes. Something is ALWAYS forgotten. My new esthetician and I did all those crazy things you can't do with your everyday gal. All those fanatical positions you are anxious to try. On your knees. Feet behind your ears. Stilts and swings. Chains and handcuffs. Things Sarah only heard about in school but never imagined doing with a client. Oh god was Julie good.
But karma is coming for me, I can feel it. Ingrown hairs are a motherfucker.

It took me two years to find "my" brazillian waxer. I'm glad to report that Justine is it-- she's thorough and gentle. Great prices too-- $45/brazillian!! Worth every penny.
I am modest, therefore I will not write about my own experience with the Brazilian waxes but I will recommend this salon to anyone gutsy enough to go Brazilian based on my "friend's" experience with Julie, esthetician extraordinaire. My "friend' described the salon as very chic and said they even sell Kai body lotion and perfume- the best.
So my "friend" has been routinely getting basic bikini waxes at nail salons for her entire adult life, then when she ventured to try an "extended" she realized that it's actually much less painful down lower than where the traditional bikini goes. So this "friend" decided it was high time to go Brazilian and wanted to do it in a private, professional setting. This "friend" went to Yelp of course to find the best neighborhood spot and discovered Dermaplus. My friend was very happy with Julie's service and professionalism (owner and founder) and will definitely be back.
My friend wants me to conclude my review by saying there is nothing to fear about the Brazilian at Dermaplus and you should just do it!!!!!!

Clean, warm, great decor and ambiance, and everyone that works there goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. I am definitely returning.
I came here for a personalized spray tan because I had a weekend full of events, and I wanted to look more tan than I was. I'd used a Magic Tan machine in the past and was not happy with how my feet and hands looked afterward, so I wanted to try something else. Kerry had been recommended to me, and I spoke to her on the phone, but she was going out of town so Justine ended up being the one doing my tan. Having never been spray-tanned before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but Justine was super friendly and made the whole thing seem perfectly normal. The process took about 15 minutes, and I was all dry and everything. The price you see is what you pay ($45 for a spray tan), and they don't accept tips.
Overall, I was very happy with my spray-tan, and will certainly be back here for those occasions where I want to look like I just spent a week in the tropics. :-)

I had been to Dermaplus for one of their signature facials with Julie, and it was amazing. When I rebooked, Julie was busy so I tried a facial with Justine. It was equally as amazing, and her prices are fifteen dollars less! I had read on yelp that they don't accept tips. FYI...that is only Julie, as she only accepts tips on waxing because she is the owner. This is a testament to the standards that Dermaplus holds that help create such a sublime experience for every treatment. My facial with Justine was worth every penny and all of the five stars.
P.S. I have been back since, and had a spray tan with Kerry. It looked so natural and it was the perfect thing for a little spring pick-me-up. I love this place!

I'm a cheater too.
I was getting a little peach fuzzy and I really could not wait to see my regular esthetician due to my schedule and whom is an hour away. So I searched Yelp for a place that was fairly priced, had more than good reviews, and that was close by. Alas, Dermaplus popped up in all of its glory.
I called and made an appointment hoping to get one for the same day. But they were booked for evening appointments. So I opted for a lunch time appointment for the next day. Justine was very nice over the phone as well as in person. I got there early, had some tea and read a magazine while waiting for her to finish up with her last client, then made my way into the room. She was very friendly and easy going. Not too chit chatty, yet did not leave for awkward silences.
The waxing itself was fast and painless. She did some plucking but I wasnt able to see the finished results in the end to make sure everything was to my liking (my normal place does).
All in all, good service, convenient hours (when you can get an appointment), parking is fairly easy during the day, but tough after 5pm, and resonably priced.

I always thought facials were princess-y and a waste of money. But after seeing the magic that both Julie and Justine can do to my skin, I now get regular facials.
Everyone at Derma Plus was genuinely nice and welcoming. The space is relaxing with tasteful decor - and it smells soooo good.

I just moved to the city and desperately needed a bikini wax.....so I consulted with yelp, and together we chose Dermaplus. I couldn't be happier with the choice or with the price. Justine is just amazing!!! She made me feel so comfortable and it was my first Brazilian experience. I thought it would be awkward and uncomfortable, but she made me feel like we were just hanging out and talking about life. I won't lie, it did hurt a bit, but Justine was so quick and fast about it that it didn't really bother me.
The ambiance was fantastic and DermaPlus is extremely clean. I couldn't have asked for a better place or experience!!!

Update 6/26/07. I went back last week before the wedding. Kerry is great! My tan was not quite as even this time, but it's still 100 times better than the gross Mystic Tan booths...

Like a previous poster, I had tried a Mystic Tan booth and had less-than-perfect results- I ended up streaky and blotchy. Since I'm in a wedding in LA next month, I recently started searching for a better solution. I stumbled upon Dermaplus while surfing around Yelp and decided to give it a test run before the wedding. The very polite woman who answered my call was able to fit me in for an appointment the same day.
Kerry was so nice and an experience that could have been somewhat awkward was not awkward in the slightest. The spraying took about 15 minutes, after which I was dry and evenly tan! I'm very impressed with the results and will definitely go back before the wedding next month.
The spray tan was $45 and so far has lasted almost a week.

The three stars are for the Brazillian bikini wax. I've been trying differently salons out to find a good one, as the best (so far) still exists down in San Jose at Angel Face Day Spa. Here's the DL...
The spa and service: FABULOUS!
The pros of the wax: Super quick and no tweezing. Not too pricey.
The cons of the wax: Hurt more than any wax I've ever had. They use really thick purple wax. No tweezing = leftover hairs that didn't come out. My skin was irritated for more than just a few hours afterwards.
Overall, I probably wouldn't go there again. Waxing doesn't have to be painful so I wouldn't voluntarily go somewhere I experienced pain. No thanks!
As for the other serivces, I inquired about the spray tan and it seems like their spray tan is pretty awesome. I''m going to try it out.

As a first time taker on the Brazillian experience, I'm sure I made Justine cringe just a bit at the thought of what lay ahead. But to her credit, the entire experience was... for someone sticking their hands where no hands but mine have ever been... very well done. She was sweet and friendly and I talked more about myself than I have to any other stylist/esthetician.
I'm pleased with the results and even more so with the price.

I just had my very first facial courtesy of Justine and I must say, it was quite exquisite. Just merely walking in and receiving a warm greeting set the tone for a very relaxing experience. Justine's gentle hands and even gentler voice put me at ease since I didn't know what to expect during the session.

I've had a facial and waxing done by Justine and she is absolutely amazing.She inspires me to take better care of my skin because her's is flawless. I find it hard to believe she had a problem with acne when she was younger. I previously went to get a facial down the street from Francoise and it was a completely different experience than at Dermaplus. I have to say the nicer rooms at Dermaplus really add to the experience and Justine did not pressure me to buy any products afterwards. I won't go back to Francoise, but I will definitely keep going to Dermaplus. I haven't been serviced by Julie but can say that she is very friendly and nice. The atmosphere here is professional, low key, and super friendly. It was a five star experience.
My skin was so dry that I thought it would break into many little pieces. So, with the help of Yelpers, I selected Justine at Dermaplus for a facial. I agree that she is great. The feet message, the hand massage, the facial. Ahhhh. I came out of it positively glowing and radiant. It's two days later and my skin feels soft, but unfortunately, the glow is fading quickly and it's starting to look dry again. Sigh. I wanted to give 5 stars, but I'm going to have to give 4.

I've never been one to get facials-but my skin needed it. I yelped and chose Justine at Dermaplus-for two reasons. Proximity to my house, and she could get me in quickly. This place is great, definately not one of those spas that tries to sell you a bunch of products you don't need. Justine left my skin feeling so soft and smooth, I can't wait to go back. Not that I need to anytime in the near future, it's been a week and my skin still glows.

Dermaplus was actually the first service I found through the glory of Yelp. Julie and Justine are both great, very professional and friendly. The cost for waxing is GREAT for the city -- and since there's hardly any place to go south of Market St. for decent beauty maintenance, I will gladly keep hauling over to Cow Hollow.
Update:
At this point I've been coming here for well over a year and I actually look forward to my appointments. I've had some fabulous facials with Justine. They use the TRUE line here, and I actually just purchased some moisturizer from the line because my favorite one from Eucerin got discontinued. I have problematic skin and in the week or so that I've been using the TRUE products regularly, my skin has really taken on a new life of its own. Like, at times it almost glows...pretty freaky. I only wish I could have monthly facials here! Some day, perhaps, some day.

I really really like this place. I use to go to Jody for my waxing and facials, but she moved to LA so I just started going to Justine her replacement and I will continue to go there. Their prices have stayed constant which is one big reason I go back and their services are impecable and professional. Justine knows her facts about facials and did a an awesome job with extractions as well as the facial. My pores thank her.
