simply amazing! they totally took care of me at derby. i've been mourning the loss of my hairdresser for years (she moved away) and have NEVER found someone that i've clicked with...and today i went to derby to have a haircut and get my eyebrows done...and was very impressed. i had been in YEARS ago, and forgotten how much i loved it. chelsea was FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC! she gave me the perfect cut, took the extra time to get it right, and was as great as can be to talk to.

patty was oh-so-quick AND fantastic with my brows...they look GREAT!

thanks so much derby for renewing my faith in.....well....my hair!

I got a bad haircut from one of the local salon schools 4 months before my wedding  and needed it fixed badly!  Luckily, I discovered Shandra who saved my hair and my wedding day.

I chose this salon because I knew that I wanted a full experience on the morning of my wedding - massage, hair, and make-up for me, and hair-dos for my ladies.  I had a haircut with Shandra a few months prior and also talked with her about how I envisioned my hair for the day of.

I had the bridal hair practice a few days before the wedding, and that went smoothly.  The morning of, we shuttled the ladies side of the wedding party to the salon, and everyone went to work quickly and efficiently.

I started on my massage which was oh so necessary as I needed some relaxation with all my boisterous family in town.  (My aunts were already told to keep it down within 5 minutes of their arrival to the hotel.  We can't help it - my family only has one volume.)

My hair and make-up went smoothly, and they got all of us out of there on time.  Everyone was very happy with their hair and looked gorgeous!  I was very pleased.

I've gone back to Shandra for haircuts, and I'm glad to have found this place.  Quality and services are excellent without being pretentious.

Crista is absolutely awesome!! I have gone to her for years (even before Derby) and she does a great job of listening to what I want and giving suggestions for my color and cut. I am always happy with what she does!

Derby has a very cool vibe and energy that makes it a fun place to go. I do pay more for my cut and color there than the last few places I have gone but I love Crista so I will pay the extra. :)

I am a big fan of Crista and now consider her my new hair stylist.  I was referred to her by a friend who loves her, but frankly my friend has plain, straight hair, so I wasn't expecting anything amazing.

I have thick, curly hair which I straighten into misleading silky locks.  Crista didn't flinch when she figured out it was going to be a bigger job than she expected.  She took the time to make sure it was right, even though it made her a bit late for her next client.  (We now book more time for my haircuts, so this won't happen again.  She's a smart girl!)  The first few days of any haircut are always a bit awkward for me.  I nicknamed it the "Bellevue MILF" because though it was a beautiful haircut, it didn't really fit my personality.  It was pretty, and I wanted more edgy.  But after about a week it grew into something that I loved.  And, it was hard to argue with all of the compliments I was getting, especially the ones from complete strangers.

The second time I saw Crista I told her I wanted something a little more punk rock, and she totally pulled it off.  It was a haircut along the same lines, but modified a bit, and I LOVED it.  I also realized that the first time I went in I was dressed like a slob because I'd been painting that day.  The second time I went in I dressed like I normally do, and I think that helped pin down my personality a bit more.

As for Derby Salon itself, it seems great.  I'm big on clean, calm, and smart, and they succeed at all three.  I don't care about trendy or boutique, which I guess they are, but not at the expense of good service.

I came in for a trim and left with the worst haircut of MY LIFE from Crista.  It will take years to grow out the ugly shaggy layers.  Shame on you.

Amazing!!! Dana at Derby did my hair for my wedding and Shea (Shay?) did my makeup--they were reasonable, affordable, listened to my preferences, and were not the pretentious artists they should be considering their skill levels! I wouldn't trust my wedding day or hair to anyone else. Love Derby's atmosphere and incredible employees.

Just had my first visit to Derby at the suggestion of a friend who goes there. She said I would like it because "It's posh and trendy inside, but located in a quaint, cute neighborhood." All in all, it was a great experience! My stylist was Jefflin. She was sweet,  friendly and gave me a great cut. They offer great products and Jefflin recommended a great hairspray after I told her was I looking for. I definitely plan on going back!

The only reason I'm not giving them 5 Stars is because the receptionist said he was going to get me tea, and then never came back. In fact, he left for the day about10 minutes after he said he was going to get the tea for me. It wasn't that big a deal. But still. :P

I got my first facial here.  My skin was misdiagnosed and I was sent home with the wrong type of Dermitologica products (which are very expensive).  My skin got progressively worse until I got some well reviewed over the counter products for sensitive skin.
Dermitologica products are rated across the web as containing ingredients that are not good for your skin and that are too expensive.  Derby staff are nice, my clinician was polite and did a good job, however the facial itself was not good for my skin because of the products.  Their staff are clearly encouraged to push products throughout the facial, which takes away from the relaxing experience.

Utterly. Awesome.
Thanks to my fellow Yelper Kimberley D for pointing me in the right direction - Chivahn is amazing.

She gave me a free consultation and told me right away what could be done for my sorry state of color. Since I had just had it done and wanted to give the poor hair a little rest I waited four weeks and came back.

I had emailed her a picture of my former glorious dark red hair which was slowly but surely changed to a dark brown and copper mess from my former hairdresser.

I walked in and the receptionist was super nice, showed me where to  put my coat, offered tea/water/coffee ect....  Shortly after, Chivahn came to get me and went into a whirlwind of fixing my hair. Just under two hours later I was astounded that she had returned my hair to the exact color I wanted it to be. Exact.  She cheerfully blew-dry and straight ironed my frizzy hair and sent me on my way.

I could seriously not be happier. She is a true pro and I will be back in four weeks to get those nasty grays covered.

I trust my brows to no other.  Heather and Stephanie know just the right amount to wax and I always get compliments on their work.  Facials are reasonably priced and have three tiers based on time and what's included. All Dermalogica stuff.  The're good about fitting me and always offer something to drink.

One thing I haven't used myself but my brides have raved about are the on location spa services for parties.  Derby will come out to your bachelorette party or pre-wedding bridal party get-ready session, etc and do everyone up with pedicures, manicures and the like. Something to look into if you're about to say I-do.

Derby, you suck!   At least your reception staff sucks (my normal stylist Lyndsay is amazing).  I had a terrible experience with (a lack of) customer service today.  Read no further if you don't want to bathe in the fire of my righteous indignation.

Whoever was at the desk/reception this morning was not amazing.  I arrived right on time for my 11:30 haircut appointment and the (in retrospect, inexperienced and inarticulate) receptionist told me my stylist was out sick.  Why didn't they call to warn me before I had driven all the way across town?  Oh, they tried, but apparently, I had given them a bad contact number.  We double-checked, and lo and behold the number in their system was correct.  My phone never rang though, and there was no record of Derby ever calling me, so the receptionist was either lying about trying to call, or she had misdialed.  But there was no acknowledgment of that possibility and no apology, nothing to dissuade my disappointment.

But she told me I could see another stylist in just a couple of minutes.  Despite my misgivings about seeing a stranger when I had my heart set on Lyndsay, I relented, also because I hated the thought of walking away and wasting the time and money spent getting there on a Saturday morning.

The receptionist made no effort to make me feel welcome - there was no offer of tea or water - I was simply made to wait.  And wait.  15 minutes later I was told to go put a smock on - that someone would see me in another 10-15 minutes.  I just got a bad vibe from the whole thing, imagining the very real possibility of wasting even more time waiting, and told her that I was leaving and would rebook my appointment when Lyndsay was back.  If I go back.

I wish I could have just collected myself and told the silly receptionist that I was frustrated by her lack of customer service - because isn't a salon supposed to make clients feel pretty and witty and gay and not like some afterthought?!

Derby,  I would hate to lose Lyndsay as my stylist, but until you make it up to me, I don't want you as my salon.

I will follow Crista Tribble wherever she goes to cut my hair, and she has happily landed at Derby. It feels a bit too hip for me (that's my own issue), but everyone is really nice. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it costs a fair amount (after tip), and is usually running behind schedule. Still, she's most definitely worth it.

(I have also recommended Crista to several personal friends, with very different hair needs, and they've all been pleased.)

Revision: In my review, I complained about the fact that I had been charged for a manicure that I should have gotten for free, which made me drop my rating down to 3 stars. However, Derby ended up giving me a $25 credit toward a future service, with no expiration. Way to make up for it!

The service at this salon is great overall. I did waxing with Stephanie one time, and came back and had a manicure with Megan. Both did an excellent job and used really high quality products (nice wax, good soothing oil, OPI polish, the works). The salon is airy and clean. The staff members all seem to be having a great time. They have free coffee, tea, and wine.

So why don't they get 4 or 5 stars? When I booked my appointment for my manicure, I said specifically that I wanted to take advantage of a free mani special that you get if you've made another appointment during the same month. However, after I got the service, I was slapped with a $27 bill - way too much for any manicure that doesn't involve a good amount booze and food, or at least a massage or something. I tried to explain that I only did the mani because of the special, but the receptionist said I would have to come back because the special applies only to manis with one woman who wasn't working that day.

I love the idea of having "happy hour brows" and monthly deals, but they're no good if your staff doesn't inform the customers properly of how to take advantage of them. A misunderstanding is one thing, but it's not cool to make the customer pay for your mistake at the end of the day.

Still, I think the salon is great and I want to go back. I will just have to be more careful the next time I try to take advantage of one of their deals.

I go to Derby for facials. I'm not a bigger planner when it comes to them. I'll wake up and literally say "must have facial now", so obviously a big part of my deal is finding a place that  can easily accommodate a last minute appointment. I've always been really lucky with Derby, and the facials I have received from both Patti and Stephanie have been great. They're both extremely capable, friendly, and knowledgeable.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when an aesthetician tries to sell you product during and or right after a facial...I know, I know, that's kind of their job, but I'm there to relax too and I'm already paying up the wazoo for a service. The Derby ladies are great at educating their clients about the products without pushing them, which I really appreciate. In addition, and this is the other pet peeve I have about facials- they don't leave the room during a facial. Even when you're just lying there waiting for the steam to work magic, they are giving you some kind of treatment so you always feel attended to.
So, I only gave Derby a 4- what gives? Well, I'm unfortunately going to have to chime in with some of the other yelpers here. The reception desk is inconsistent. Sometimes I've had prompt, friendly service, other times I've had to wait up to 15 minutes over my scheduled appt. time without any explanation as to why things were running late. I appreciate the mellow vibe, but y'all got to let customers know when a service is not going to happen on time, and a simple, sincere apology for the inconvenience goes a long way. The other reason that I gave a 4 is because I did not get a great facial the last time I went in. I saw someone I'd never seen before, and while she was super nice, she told me that I did not need any extractions, and therefore did not perform any. While that was flattering, I know my skin. I didn't argue, cuz it seemed awkward at the time, but when I got home and looked in the mirror- sure enough, the same blackheads that I knew were there to begin with had not magically disappeared. That was disappointing, and I would not go back to her again.
But, I heartily recommend Stephanie and Patti, and would return for their services in a heartbeat.

Derby, I love you!  I've been seeing mostly Megan for the last year, though occasionally Chandra steps in when Megan isn't available.  My color always rocks (and lasts forever!) and my haircuts always look fantastic!  Of the two, Megan is more freestyle with her styling while Chandra's cuts/styling look more structured, but they both do a great job on me.  Now my mom, my little sister and some girlfriends all go to Derby as well!

Two things that make Derby stand out from the crowd (besides awesome stylists and reasonable prices for service):

1) Dog-friendly.  What more can I say about that one?

2) When I called 30 minutes before my appointment with Megan, frantic because I had lost my wallet, they offered to let me come in and have my service done anyway, asking only that i drop a check off the next day.  I love love LOVE businesses that go out of their way to accommodate and appreciate their regular customers, and even though I wasn't able to come in (wallet lost = checkbook lost as well, plus the paranoia about my bank account being drained while I was getting colored = paralyzing!), they were understanding and didn't put the late cancellation on my "permanent record" :)  Let me say it again:  Derby, I love you!

Okay, so here's the deal.  I'm single and about to fall into the "feeling sorry for myself" lake on my birthday.  Instead, I went to Derby and got a manicure and massage!  TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY!

Sadly, I don't remember the fabulous ladies' names.  However, when I went in to get a manicure, the girl that did my nails was GREAT!  She had all sorts of information about Seattle (still kinda new here), funny stories, and was just generally nice.  She was real, too.  She wasn't all plastic boobs and blond hair.  She had tats and piercings and cussed as much as I did.  Fabulous!

As my nails were drying, I realized I hadn't put enough money in the meter.  She dug through my rat's nest of a purse and found a dollar, got quarters, went out and fed the meter, put the sticker in my car, and relocked it, putting everything back in my purse for me.  Above and beyond, I tell you.

So then, the massage.  I'd never had one before and this one was amazing.  I actually caught myself drooling.  I had been so tense and sore in my back and shoulders..when I was done in there my shoulders, literally, were lower.  My only regret was that I got the 30 minute massage instead of the 60.

So overall, I highly HIGHLY recommend this place.  5 stars!

I had become very unimpressed with the other place I'd been going to for the last two years, so it was time to research other salons in the neighborhood.  Someplace I could afford not just for one great cut & color, but a place that I could also afford to RETURN to every two months for maintenance-- a tricky feat in this city, I found.

I kind of chose Derby for my first cut by accident-- mainly I had that intense feeling for the cut on a Sunday, a day which most places have the audacity to be closed on (not so great for the M-F working crowd).  Derby, one of two places in the area open on Sunday, had an opening just two hours later-- awesome, I'll take the chance.  I was scheduled with Chivahn, a cute, funny, tattooed animal lover and luckily someone I instantly clicked with.  She sat me down, nearly gasped at its current 'bigness', and said she could fix me.  And with those magic words, she more than fixed.  She listened to my short list of wants, my lifestyle (nanny= ponytails often), my previous issues with my most recent salon.  Then she acted accordingly.

In a nutshell, Chivahn is the vanity side of me's new best friend.  I couldn't recommend her enough (and so: http://www.derbysalon....).  She had the most relaxing shampoo massage I've ever received.  Her conversation wasn't forced and she had a genuine desire to learn more about me.  The results were so amazing that I, for once, still continue to love my cut a month later, and loved & trusted Chivahn so much after just one visit that I returned the following weekend for a color/highlights.  And one of the best parts was that the price was very much something I could repeat + a 20% tip every other month.  Because frankly, she deserves it.

So if you're debating whether or not to try this place out, please do-- you deserve it for yourself too.  Also, should you check out their website, be sure to click on their monthly specials.  A little spoiling might be in order soon, eh?

Honestly, I don't go anywhere else, and I probobly never will.  At least unless Chivahn goes elsewhere.  I've always just gone to super cheap places for my cut, and then done my own color, but then I got a real job and needed help looking pretty but professional at the same time.  Chev saves me every time, and I always get more compliments on my hair than I know what to do with.  I can't recomend her highly enough, whether you want something conservative, or ultra modern and wild.

The salon itself is very pleasant, and the Bumble and Bumble products are top notch.  My hair has never been happier.  The front desk staff are always very friendly and helpful, and the complementary coffee/tea/wine makes for a full and relaxing experience.

Go!  Go now!

I had a great haircut and color here with Chivahn.  I messed up my hair dye pretty badly, so since I needed a good cut anyway I came in for a cut and color consult.  She did a great job of working with my hair and finding a cut that would work for me - she even styled it two ways so I could see both!  At $35 for a cut it was the best bargain ever!  She fit me in later that day for a color and did an amazing job, my color came out vibrant and with no trace of my previous mistakes.  A great haircut and color does wonders for my self esteem. Thank you Chivahn, you made me feel GREAT! I will definitely be back.

I discovered Derby randomly. Chivahn posted online that she was looking for models to do a dreadperm. I enjoy changing my hair very regularly and it gets expensive. I'd never had real dreads and am always down to be a guinea pig.

A hair project that takes 6+ hours could result in some awkward, stilted conversation. Luckily she put me at ease and the results were great.

Invested in the "wedding day" package - cuz who doesn't want to look their bestest for the big day? Went in for a consultation, and the stylist did what I wanted, but the big 50's bouffant didn't go over to well with the fiance/family. $45 so far.

So, back for round two. This time I went with the "need some suggestions" approach and got zip. Walked outta there about 15 minutes later (another $45 out the window) with the hair style I already had, just a little more flipped at the bottom.

I decide to go with the less-is-more style, and on THE BIG DAY, I show up at the salon with 6 of my bridesmaids in tow (we had reservations for them). I got my perfunctory style and she managed to grease the heck out of my bangs with all the styling goo. But, no time to rewash - so  she just sprayed some more crap on it. Let's just say my hair looked like someone smooshed a bunch of Vaseline in it. Not so pretty in the pics. Oh, another $55 out the window.

My bridesmaids were a mixed bag. Some of them got kinda cute/okay sorta up-does. But two of the girls were on the verge of tears as they left. Two words: Nellie Olson. We had to unravel their coifs and redo.

So - overall experience wasn't quite what I would have expected for nearly $200 in "service." I think they offered us hot tea or water. I kinda thought they would have done a little something extra for a party of seven to make the special day, well, special.

I spent Friday night at Derby getting the once-every-five-years facial I should be getting once a month. Alison (also the owner, according to Derby's site) worked with me, and she did an excellent job. My face was a glowing luminescent at the end of the 90-minute ("Best") facial session. Or maybe it was just shiny from product. Either way, my skin was recharged and fresh. I felt wonderful.

I was a little worried when I got to the salon because the layout is very open, and I didn't want to have my facial in front of the entire studio. But I got my own room in the back. It was super cozy with really great music playing (Antonio Carlos Jobin's greatest collections - one of my favorite albums). Alison was personable, calming, charming, and gave me samples of a couple of products to try at the end of my appointment. I wasn't pushed into buying product whatsoever, which is an A+ quality in itself.

It was the perfect way to start off the weekend and a fantastic experience.

I LOVE DERBY!!!!!
My roommate recommended them to me when I was thinking about getting 10 inches of hair cut off. I made an appointment with Jefflin. On the day I got there I was totally freaked out about cutting all my hair off - but she was so nice and reassuring that it would be a good thing. Then she cut off my ponytail and even posed for pics before, during, and after. She even got me a bag to put my hair in (I donated it). She gave me the cutest bob haircut ever. I keep going back and am always pleased by the cut and the service. They are so nice -always offering water, tea, and wine. Reception does leave a little to be desired but Jefflin and the rest of the staff are so great - and they have a dog too. I totally recommend Derby.

Fabulous. I was so pleased.

This was my first time ever getting a pedicure (my friend needed comforting so I volunteered to go with her), and I enjoyed the hell out of it. I believe I had my feet worked on by Sara(h) and she did an amazing job.

I particular enjoyed the conversations that these ladies started up with each other and with the customers. Pure hilarity :) It made me feel so welcome, and I would love to go back, even if just to listen to them talk...

Remember the scene from 40-year-old Virgin where he's mutilated in the waxing salon? Derby is sort of like that, except the staff, who walks around dazed and full of themselves, aren't as gentle. I walked in for their "Happy Hour brows" and left with missing a chunk of skin under my eyebrow. The waxer stared at me, asked me if I had a scar above my eye, and when I said no, she said, "Oops." They charged me anyway. I should have put up more of a fuss. Against my better judgement, I returned. The stylist spilled wax on my favorite sweater, then dabbed oil to try and remove the wax. The other stylists laughed all the way through it. I hope their tattoos become tainted with stretch marks as they age, so no one will be able to discern that the inky mass on their forearm was once a flaming pair of dice.

Alison Etter's Derby Salon is my favorite place for Hair and Beauty Culture.  K.C. is my hair man and he does a no ammonia, no peroxide hair color for my long hair and this keeps it looking smooth and soft.  Alison's facials and brow and eyelash tint, keep me looking good without makeup.   I love the ladies night happy hour of beauty friends come together and have giddy beauty fun, Love the desk staff too Tom you rock keeping it all together with such good energy!  thanks, Derby for all the beauty and complements I receive!

I had a "happy hour" manicure by Megan, and then a pedicure by Xochi and both were very pleasant. The manicure was only $20 with the "happy hour" discount and the pedicure was $47, which was more than I wanted to pay, but I really like the care and time Xochi took with my nails and then amazing foot massage that went with it. And the glass of wine was nice too!

It's always a gamble trying to find a new place for cosmetic treatments (you never know what you're going to get, right?) But I really think I lucked out with Derby.  The entire staff was very friendly and welcoming, and I really appreciated that I didn't feel rushed. Both ladies gave me great service, and I plan on going back for my next mani/pedi - maybe even a hair cut or massage?!

I love Derby Salon and Lyndsay! I've been going here for just over a year now and I'm always satisfied every time I go. The staff is nice and it's comfortable, and they all really listen to what you want. Very friendly too! :-)

The first thing that attracted me to Derby was the friendly staff.   I appreciate a relaxed salon, overly stuffy salons are a snooze!  My services,  pedicures and haircuts, have been nothing short of outstanding.  I would recommend this salon to a friend and a stranger.

I went here tonight for the first time after checking it out here.  I made my appointment with Casey - who after a very thorough consultation for my hair color and hair cut, gave me exactly what I wanted. Granted I didn't have an expectation for the color itself and it is something a little darker than I expected, it has started to grown on me within the past couple of hours. The hair style turned out great, with Casey not pushing any product on me and giving me styling advice for at home. I will be back in a month or so, as I think I will keep this style for a while!

I really only go to Derby Salon for Happy Hour Brows ($14).  Heather does an AWESOME job and I've never left disappointed.  I did go there for a haircut when I first moved to town and needed a hairstylist, and I wasn't impressed, so I haven't gone back to them for a cut.  Maybe I just got someone that didn't really understand how to cut really curly hair, but I couldn't keep taking my chances.  However, brow waxing there is great, and I love the way face smells (is that weird?) after I leave.  Plus, Happy Hour Brows!!  I mean, how cool is that?!  Its hard to find decent brow waxing that isn't in a little nail salon where you take a huge gamble with how the shape will come out and doesn't cost $40.

I got my hair colored and cut by Chelsea. It was great. Turned out exactly how I wanted it. I would definitely go back and recommend others to try the place out.

One of their stylists chopped off great amounts of my hair while I was sitting in the chair telling her how I had been painstakingly growing it out for over a year. Then she kept apologizing for "freaking me out." Weird experience (and I'm still growing out my hair).

Just had my hair cut by Jefflin at Derby Salon. I'd been growing it out for a long time from a shaved head and it was different lengths and all sorts of challenging. She did a great job, I'm very pleased with the cut. She was also very personable and relaxed, fun to be around and professional all at the same time. :)

Is it goofy to say I tried this salon because my cat's name is Derby? Well, that's the truth. Guess I got lucky because I got a great haircut from Tova and wonderful color. She also allows you to come back for free within two weeks if something is not to your liking. That's a nice plus. Her prices may be higher than other stylists because she's works independently within the salon, but she's worth it (I'm not sure what anyone else charges). No nonsense salon with style, but certainly not pretentious. I may try a waxing while my hubbie gets a cut next!

The reception is inviting and provides hot tea on a cold night. Kudos.

However, my first time with stylist Megan on a self proclaimed "emo day" left me with an emo-cut. I brought a magazine picture, a photo, and a small desire - a semi-stylish bob cut to eliminate the layers from my previous then grown out pixie style.

The result cannot be described with words, just tears - a true emo-cut. I have spent a week trying to find a way to style my hair this way or that to no avail. I cannot even use a headband, or even a rubberband, to hide it. I went in with a highly layered head of hair that I could at least blow dry and style. I left with no style no matter how you frame it.

Alas, I will never go back to Megan, and as a result of this emo-scar, probably nobody at Derby either. $5 off coupon available. I'll leave it in the trash on the corner.

i give derby 2 stars for friendly, upbeat attitudes. beyond that, i find that i have nothing positive to say about this salon.
2 years ago i walked in with a thick head of heavy curls that could be pulled into a ponytail of considerable size. i walked out with a ponytail just smaller than a pencil and mangy, fried looking, fizzy waves.
today i decided to give them a second chance after reading highly favorable reviews in ALLURE magazine, figuring i may have merely had an unfortunate stylist. i talked to the stylist about what color highlights i wanted, clearly stating subtle and summery, nothing too light in comparison to my chestnut hair. after sitting for 25 minutes waiting for the dye to work she came to check on my progress stating that another 15 minutes were necessary. all said and done, the straw colored highlights make my hair look incredibly ashy, with the exception being the 2 1/2 inch chunk from the crown.

this is the second time i've felt like crying as i left derby salon

I just tried this salon for the first time today and I loved it! Megan did my hair and did a great job, it looks super cute! The atmosphere was nice and relaxing and I was offered a drink right when I walked in. I highly recommend this place!

Derby is great.  My skin has never looked better thanks to Alison and Dermalogica.  The salon is completely unpretentious and casual. And happy hour brows?!  Love it.

This salon is a bit on the funky side, with most of the stylists sporting brightly-colored hair and numerous piercings. I like the atmosphere though--I feel uncomfortable in salons run by women who look like Stepford Wives and ask the same bland questions to you every time you come in. Derby is affordable ($35 haircuts), comfortable, and has a nice decor/atmosphere. Dogs sometimes wander around, but they're pretty innocuous. The staff seems pretty cool, and I haven't gotten a bad haircut yet.
