I've been to many a DMV and I've usually come out down on life and hating the human race. But this particular DMV has always been pleasant, and while the line is long, they have a sort of-kind of humane system of numbers so you can gauge how long you'll be waiting. So pull out a book and quit your whining.
Way back, when Woodland's DMV still required everyone to stand in one giant line, the folks at the Davis DMV had already realized it's easier to have people take numbers. Brilliant idea, right! SFs DMV had been doing it for ages! So, this is why I preferred to come to Davis: I could grab a number, judge how long the waiting time is and take off! Haha. I'd just leave, go to lunch or something and come back in time for my turn. But still, it's the effing DMV, man! Ugh!

This is by far the cutest DMV I have ever been to. It's like going to any other DMV and shrinking it by more than half. I can definitely see the problem with having a small DMV but when I went there on a Tuesday afternoon, it was virtually empty. The staff surprisingly were very nice and talkative and my trip to the DMV lasted no more than 20 minutes which I think is a new world record.
Bottom line, nobody likes the DMV but if I had to go to one, it would be the Davis DMV.

quite possibly the slowest DMV ever. you would think that for a small town, the DMV would be fast but no. painfully slow and its so outdated in here. (the missing children ads are from the 90s)
the people who work here are quite distinctive too. this asian guy who gives you your ticket number seems way too enthusiastic about his job. this middle eastern guy is an ASSHOLE and seems too bitter about everything.
i'd be bitter too if i had to work in a piece of crap DMV in davis.

UUUUUUUGH.
Going to any DMV is a pain, but the one in Davis is terrible.
Decor that's straight out of the late '70s, long lines, and a weird smell of disinfectant define the Davis DMV experience. On the plus side the staff here is friendlier than most, and every time I've gone I've come away in a good mood.
Make sure you alot twice as much time as you think you'll need, show up as early as possible, and bring a book.
