8 reviews for Denver Marriott City Center
Valet attendants, desk staff, room staff, and all are very nice. Prices are average for a nice, poshier place that hosts trade and educational conferences. Rooms are clean. Minus one star because wi-fi access is 12.95. I guess they might as well milk it since it's mostly workplaces paying for it.
Makes you feel like you're in Vegas...just don't look outside. Close the blinds and turn on some trance...look, you're in Vegas!
Bar downstairs had hot conference attendees during the week, but was a sausage fest during football Sunday. Football is religion in Denver on Sunday. Not the hotel's fault.
What a great hotel. We won a trip to Denver from the chamber of Commerce which included the stay at this hotel. For free, I'd give it 6 starts! I have no complaints what so ever, not even if we were paying.
Jason, the concierge was awesome. He hooked us up with some great perks too. We visited him every day of our stay and he always provided us with something fun to do and a great place to eat.
Another reviewer mentioned the bedding in the room. Absolutely awesome. Down comforter on a great bed. Slept like a baby and I have a sleeping disorder.
The room was kept extremely clean, all the staff was helpful, the breakfast buffet, included in our free stay, was actually pretty darned good. About $16 if you have to pay, which is reasonable for what is available.
Starbucks in the lobby too.
You can't go wrong with this hotel, unless of course you like a nice clean place where the staff is very accommodating.
It has been at least 5 years since I've stayed here. The hotel has not changed a bit, with clean and good facilities.
Check-in areas is quite small but nicely designed, with no counters but more like standing stations, which makes the interaction between Front Desk personnel and the guests more personal. There is a Starbucks Coffee counter located in the lobby and below, in the basement, there is a full bar as well as a restaurant. The check-in process was fast, yet friendly. Newspapers, a guide to Denver as well as coupons for a free drink at Rock Bottoms Bar (review available) are available at the Concierge's Desk.
The rooms are quite nice, comfortable and clean. The décor is quite good with a reading chair, desk, coffee maker and regular amenities such as Bath and Body Works shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion. The bed, typical of the Marriott chain, is quite good and comfortable. Our view was the office building across the mall (just a few feet away from the hotel). We did not have much of sunlight to start with. In addition, we had to keep the curtains closed most of the time for privacy, which made the room even darker.
Television is LG digital with great clear HD pictures and a good selection of channels. However, the television is very low in the entertainment unit, which makes it very hard to watch if you are laying down in the bed or seated in the reading chair at the end of the room. The Management of this hotel should order the engineers to move the television to the top of the entertainment unit and/or hang in the wall, where it will be much easier to watch.
And for those of you who follow my reviews (or become a 'fan' today), do know that I hate when wireless is charged when most business or upper class hotels offer this amenity for free. A $9.95 charge is quite ridiculous.
The fitness facilities are quite nice with plenty of treadmills and life cycle machines in the "inside" portion of the gym. Most of the machines do have televisions and even a docking station for your Ipod. If you do have a movie or video on the Ipod, you can watch it on the machine's television screen. However, I did follow the instructions to use mine and it did not connect.
The weight lifting machines are located in the pool "outside" area so be weary of children running and splashing water while you are trying to get a workout. The pool is quite small to do any kind of laps; seems to be more for show. There is a whirlpool and unisex steam-room and sauna located in this area. Professional massages are available as well as showers and a dressing room area.
The checkout process was done via the television access so we did not have to deal with the front desk. The entire bill is available for you to see, check all the charges and, if there are no discrepancies, the bill is charged to your credit card and mailed to the address provided when checked-in.
We had a rental car and the cost of valet parking is $27.00. However, the cost of park yourself is $20.00. Think of the $7.00 as a convenience charge. Or go down a few blocks to another cheaper parking garage.

Final Comment: A nice hotel just a block away from the 16th Street Mall. Clean, well-decorated and comfortable beds make the room quite nice, as it is expected from a Marriott Hotel. Nice facilities, amenities and friendly staff. Just take quite a few points for television being too close to the floor and wireless charges... argh!
Definitely would stay here again! Can't beat a hotel with Starbuck's in the lobby! The hotel is centrally located to lots of great shopping and restaurants and the rooms were clean and stylishly decorated. They really thought about the business traveler as there were lots of plugs for all of my electronics at the desk and next to the bed! They also had some great reading lights and the blackout drapes worked soo well it was hard to get out of bed in the morning! The gym was good sized and I liked the weight room, indoor pool/spa, in addition to the wet & dry sauna. Wasn't impressed with the front desk staff, which is why they are receiving 4 stars instead of 5. They barely smiled and didn't go out of their way to make you feel like they cared if you stayed at their hotel or not. The one employee who stood out was Bobby the Bellman. He actually helped me with my demagnatized room key and had a sense of humor and went out of his way to help me. He should be promoted! As long as you don't need front desk assistance it's a very nice stay!
I stayed here for the SPE conference in March 2008...the room was quite nice with new furnishings. I enjoyed the king-size bed. It was comfy.
I noticed that I didn't have a bathrobe. So, I wrote a note to the housekeeper. When I returned later in the day from the conference the grooviest terry cloth bathrobe was nicely folded on my bed. High class sweeties...I almost took it home with me. It was totally cool with the marriott logo on the front. I was even more comfy.
The starbucks in the lobby is dangerously convenient. My breakfast room service was delivered...I must have been tired, because I marked the order incorrectly. But the server was very nice. Overall, this hotel has pretty much everything you need to feel like home. It has been remodeled, so its kinda hip.
The bar downstairs was groovy, too. I had a sandwich and glass of red wine. Kinda pricey, but I enjoyed just hanging out with all the flat panel screens and sports stuff. They also had Nintendo Wiis set up. I don't play myself but this Marriott has quite a set up.
I was overcharged for the internet access, which in my opinion should have been included in my $99/night. Being that it is a 3-star hotel, free access should be provided. I also had to request for a internet cable (which they provide). The front desk refunded one overchage, no questions asked. Very accommodating service. The bell desk also held my baggage on my last day while I went to the museum.
Something missing though: a pool. Alas, I was only here for four nights and I had a very nice stay.
Better than i thought it would be. but still needs some work. especially the "spa."
good for kids
room 637 at the end, with extra space at entry
positives: very accommodating to my requests for refrigerator for baby formula and breastmilk storage (gave me huge one with freezer compartment!). and provided a humidifier when asked. But the latter was cheap/gross looking and didn't know how to use it. Blackout curtains worked very well.
no safe, no mini-bar
"spa" = 1 room in the gym. gross locker, dust all over, afraid to put my clothes there b/c if it fell, then would get dirty
kristi - great masseuse for deep pressure/tissue
music from the gym and chlorine from pool pervaded the massage room despite masseuse trying to cover it up to the best of her ability with room music
need slippers...
business center has free 20 print outs, 20 copies BUT was broken.
conference food - lunch - one time had turkey wrap. I hate wraps! prefer sandwiches with bread!
chris at valet parking very helpful. He made
sure I knew which direction and checked when he didn't know. I would have gone the wrong way otherwise.
front desk at 1am was not helpful. My husband just wanted to print out boarding passes in pdf format on flashdrive. Instead they made my husband go all the way back to his room on 6th floor, get info and back to kiosk and print himself. But it was good they had a kiosk to print boarding passes for free.
the marriott city center occupies the bottom 20 floors of the MCI building in downtown denver.
marriott's new bedding (including down comforter and feather pillows) really made staying at this hotel worthwhile. gone are the days of the tacky printed comforter with standard fuzzy hotel blanket underneath. bad style has been replaced by comfort.
when the curtains are fully closed it provides a wonderful pitch black environment ideal for sleeping in on vacation. as someone who tries to spend as little time in a hotel room as possible when travelling, i found it hard to leave this room.
It's a very nice Marriott inside and outside. It's a little expensive but the rooms are nice, and the room service is good. I'm not in a hugely descriptive mood, but I do enjoy this Marriott!
