A bit pricey but they do have a way of making you pay more attention to your teeth. My hygienist Linda, showed me a lot about caring for them a little bit more.

Does anyone like going to the dentist? If you do, please stop reading this review and search for "psychologists" in the search bar above, because you need a check up from the neck up.

Do you know what I hate more than going to the dentist? Having to pay for an appointment that should have been covered by my insurance because of timing issues-it was too soon between visits and my insurance didn't cover my visit, despite checking with the front desk first. Lesson learned-front desk wants your money; insurance company will give you the real deal. $150 bucks just for a cleaning that should have been free is not my idea of a good time.

The staff is friendly and attentive; they remember random details of my life, but I don't come to the dentist to make friends-I come to get my teeth cleaned. I will be much more careful with my dental insurance moving forward, but will likely be back, because the thought of finding another new dentist gives me the willies.

I feel mixed about this place. I got a free offer for a Bright Smile whitening treatment  ($650) worth, and when I went in, the dentist said that the main purpose of the offer was to get new clients. Of course it is, but it's weird that you're telling me that. I did get my teeth cleaned because I needed them done, and the hygenist did a great job on that.

The dentist suggested that I had a small cavity developing and a cracked filling that would need to be replaced soon. Hearing all of this stuff at once, PLUS the suggestion that I get x-rays done reminded me of bringing my car in somewhere and being told I'd need a ton of pricey work done suddenly.

I don't buy it. So, on the first occasion, I got my teeth cleaned. They look lovely. The second, I came back to get the Bright Smile done because they didn't have time to do it in one appointment (fair enough). Because the office is in the same building as the Top of the Pru, you need a pass to get up there. The guard couldn't find me on the list and so I had to call from their phone to ask the office to put me on the list. I did. Another guard had to find my name because the first didn't spell it correctly. Aggravating.

Anyway, on both visits, I actually waited for at least 15 minutes, which is a pain when you have to get back to work. Since I have sensitive teeth, I couldn't go all three whitening rounds, and you know what, they look good after one round. The hygenist spilled whitening gel on my sweater twice and actually also got it in her hair. Maybe she's just out of school. Not a big deal since it wasn't cashmere.

The suckiest part is that they tried to charge me the whole $650 on the way out. I had to remind them that it was a free offer. If I'd been paying, I'd have been upset since I started getting sharp pains in one tooth and only used one third of the treatment. But hey, they have art on the wall and gave me toothpaste for my sensitive teeth.

A giant practice in the Prudential Tower, this dentist office is a mix of highs and lows.

First, this mega-office has the most impersonal atmosphere that I've ever experienced at a dentist. This isn't a bad thing, necessarily, because one of the reasons I left my last dentist was because he was overly friendly to the point where I felt like I, and my bank account, were being killed with kindness. That practice was very friendly and small, and it felt like they knew you. This feels like a factory. Rows and rows of small rooms filled with many people having work done. It's efficient, but very clinical and impersonal.

My dentist and hygienist were professional and quick. I needed a filling replaced and they did the job wonderfully. No extra chit chat, which I personally appreciate. No complaints there.

The view you get from the chair is pretty unique, with the "wall" you are pointed towards being a ceiling to floor plate glass window, so you get a nice view a Boston skyline. It's much nicer than staring at an eggshell white wall.

The front desk was professional. When time came to pay, the billing person was similarly helpful.

A big concern for people might be the price. This seems to be a very pricy dentist, and people with lesser plans might be shocked by the bill. I only had a filling replaced, and even with my insurance, the bill at the office came to $30. Then a week later another invoice for an additional $20 arrived at my home. I can never understand why I can't get a true price at the office when they have my insurance information. My last guy charged me $25 per filling.

There several nearby places that will save you 700$ for a root canal if paying out of pocket and in the event you will need to use your dental benefits it will be better planning if you use other nearby places bc your insurance benefits will allow you to a longer ways than if you stick with this place.  Although I like my hygienist, and will continue to get my teeth cleaned or deep cleaned there but for all else I'll stick with other nearby more economical places assuming that the other nearby places being around in Boston, they likely have pretty good care and indeed from yelp ratings you are generally in good hands

More of a spa than a dentists' office.  Sowles-Trauring is easily the nicest dental office I've visited.  Located right in Prudential tower, the office has modern equipment, kindly staff, and all the latest dental fads (invisalign, a host of whitening services, etc.).  I think they do oral surgery, as well (I was only there for a cleaning, though).

My only beef with the place is that they charge a bit more than my insurance plan will cover.  Not a big deal - it works out to something like $30 out-of-pocket for me.  Check to make sure they're in your network if you don't like to pay!

I was about to get totally screwed at this place. My dentist thought I may need some gum grafting and suggested I seek a periodontal consult. I went to this place and they started telling me all this stuff about how the implant I've had for years was not well integrated and needed to be replaced and tried to send me for a CT of my jaw at Harvard.
I got 3 other opinions from dentists and an oral surgeon which were all contradictory, and I am soo glad I did b/c I would have ended up spending probably an extra 2 grand and going through so much pain. It was completely ridiculous.

I have had every possible issue with my teeth barring dentures - fillings, cavities, ortodontics, root canal, crowns, the standard but entirely unnecessary wisdom teeth removal. Fortunately I started flossing occasionally so my teeth are much nicer to me now. Regardless, I've had to spend a lot of time at the dentist.

Sowles Tauring were incredibly accomadating (I got an appt as a new patient within two weeks - something that rarely happened even at my dentist I'd previously been seeing since birth at home), and the office was super nice. The practice is HUGE, and in some ways it was a little barracks/stable-esque but they were very kind and attentive. I was waiting around for a while though at times throughout the visit - cleaning and x-rays shouldn't really last 2 hours. On the plus side my insurance (Delta Dental) covered the whole thing.

Well, I used to hate going to the dentist.  I have tooth issues that you cannot believe!  Veneers that need to be replaced (not done at Sowles Trauring the first time), multiple root canals, cavities that never seem to stop multiplying, etc.  A total mess.  I've been to dentists in each city that I've lived in (5 total) and Sowles Trauring is the best HANDS DOWN!  If I ever have to move again, I'll travel here just to see Dr. O'Toole, Norma, and the rest of the amazing staff.  Being an anxious patient, Dr. O'Toole and Norma always put me at ease.  They call to follow-up and check on their patients, and the office is like stepping into a fab little art gallery.  Me likey.

I always thought that I'd reserve the coveted five star rating for things like chocolate croissants and/or killer tapas; however, these drill-wielding geniuses have earned it.

UPDATE: I saw Dr. Goldberg for a root canal yesterday.  I actually wanted to send him and his assistant Sabine a fruit basket because the whole thing was so painless and easy.  I actually found myself laughing and engaged in conversation... and I didn't even have laughing gas!  This place is truly amazing.

UPDATE: Beware if you don't have dental insurance or have an unusual plan. Most dentists charge about $100 for a cleaning, this dentist charges 150 smackers!! So I was only reimbursed for $100. Way over-priced.

I'm going to have to disagree with my fellow Yelpers about Sowles, et. al. While the practice is huge, the admin staff efficient (and very nice), and the Pru location convenient, I would avoid this place, particularly if you are paying out-of-pocket.

I did not get a good vibe from this place. The dentist I saw immediately suggested major problems with my teeth that I had asked my other dentist about and he said not to worry about them. Now, the Sowles dentist just might be more detail-oriented. But I felt bullied by the dentist *and* the hygienist. The former for suggesting catastrophic results if  I did not get several major procedures done ASAP, and the latter because she was not a "people person," as I would hope a dental hyg. would be.

This practice impressed me as being a high-pressure sales place and I would not recommend it.

To start, I need to thank Boston Liz and Dr. O'Toole for being the best Hygienist/Dentist I've ever visited! Not only were they knowledgeable, but they were personable, and extremely professional. Having not gone to a dentist in a while, I was impressed with them to say the least, and I can't wait to go back.

Calling their office with a new appointment was easy, and the scheduler was more than friendly and accommodating. I got an appointment within about 2 weeks (amazing). Arriving in their posh Prudential Tower Suite, I was greeted with a huge smile by their warm receptionist. Friendly points for her. I should point out that their office is so convenient for me, with its central location in the heart of the Prudential Tower, and I think I made a great choice going there as soon as I got insurance (think I should point this out considering half the reviews on here complain about the cost. Maybe go to a clinic or something if you're uninsured... just saying).

I had a routine cleaning after my initial "first patient" stuff was out of the way. Liz was careful and methodical, very obviously a pro and at the top of her class (and let's face it, she's not too bad to look at either!). She explained everything she was doing, step by step, and even made sure to take the x-rays that are good for five years (like I said, thank you insurance!). After everything was said and done, Dr. O'Toole came in, and his demeanor was polite, friendly, and professional, fitting for the office. He was fantastic! I scheduled my next cleaning with Liz right in her office as I was rinsing!

All in all, the best dental office I've ever been to.
