I don't know what happened. This Denny's used to be horrible. The food was bad. The service was super slow. I swore I'd never be back. Then, after a really late night out, my guy and I were ravenous. Being one of the only things open, we stopped in and hoped for the best.
And that's exactly what we got - at Denny's!
They've redone the interior and updated the lighting and the booths. They've gotten much friendlier (and well-trained) staff. They've gotten nicer management. They're a LOT quicker when taking orders and bringing food out. We even got refills!
And perhaps most importantly (to some), they now serve bottled beer, crappy wine and the biggest mimosas I've ever seen! These things are bigger than the fishbowls they serve at Bill's brunch in Willow Glen (and are only $5.50).
Sure, I wasn't expecting much, but my expectations were completely blown out of the water; so much so that I had to Yelp about it. Give this Denny's (don't know about others) another chance when you're in need of late night eats. The Hooburrito (supposedly created by Hoobastank) was greasy goodness and as mentioned above, I had to laugh when I got my mimosa.
The manager even came by and hooked us up with a coupon for 20% off our next visit.
Is it sad that this is now one of the best restaurants on the Eastside?
It's a good restaurant, we alwyas go there just for a normal going out thing. with standard american meals. love their omlets.
I haven't written a one star review in about six months, so I had breakfast at Denny's.
Higher prices than my last visit, burned toast, employees standing around looking at me wait and ignoring me.
My preconceived one star rating came true. Denny's didn't disappoint in that regard.
there was a fly in my water.
disgusting
Friday nights are packed!! Grr.. and I hate the service on those nights. I went with a friend and the male waiter wasn't even giving us the attention when we needed things. I could tell he was going for the bigger tables and kissing ass for tips. So I didn't tip the lousy waiter.
Other than that, it's the typical denny's and parking is a lot better than the one on berryessa.
This Denny's isn't bad. They have great service and always bring out the food in a timely manner. I recently got the "Grand Slamwich" to try something new since I always get the same thing. What a horrible decision. The sandwich consists of: scrambled egg, seasoned sausage, crispy bacon, shaved ham, mayonnaise and American cheese grilled on potato bread with a maple spiced spread. Separately, these are all very tasty things, so I assumed together, it would be the ultimate taste sensation for my mouth. I was so wrong! The sweet, salty, and meaty just did not mesh together in my mouth. It was so disgusting. I would likely come here again, but I definitely would not order this item again.
This place used to be the hot spot for young adults who didn't have much to spend on dining. I have to admit though that the appetizers are ridiculously good. I always get seasoned fries with whatever I'm ordering so I can dip it in the super duper RANCH dressing! OMG how I love their ranch. If I could be buried with just one dip in my hand...it would be Denny's ranch! It's so thick and tasty! The consistency is what I'm after. You can scoop it up with your french fry and it'll stick right to it. They need to sell this in a bottle. Seriously.
My favorite sandwich isn't even on the menu. For some odd reason they took it off but you can still order it like this: Hamburger on sourdough with onions and american cheese. Nhummy!!!!! But you know what makes it even Nhummy-er? RANCH!
You'll prob need to work out 3x as hard after that meal though!
Boyfriend lives across the street from this Denny's location so we come here occasionally. For breakfast I normally order the Meat Lovers Scramble. It's 2 scrambled eggs w/ chopped bacon, diced ham and crumbled sausage, and topped w/ cheese. Then you get two strips of bacon, two sausage links, hash browns and two pancakes. It's a lot of food, so I usually need help finishing it. I like it when they have that Grand Slam promotion for $5.99 that comes with your choice of 4 breakfast items and 2 pancakes.
Service-wise, if you come in the late hours (after the club), they are a little slow in serving you. I'm not sure if they just think they can get away with it since most people are still intoxicated so maybe they assume we just don't notice? Haha. Otherwise, service isn't that bad during the day.
3 stars solely for service.
there was 50 (YES, FIFTY) of us. it was after a night performance and basically, the entire cast went to dennys to celebrate.
of course the whole staff at dennys was not expecting it, but then again who knows what else they've seen.
split us up into 3 super long tables. orders went perfect. everyone was happy. i was in charge of collecting probably the biggest dinner bill in my life. hahaha
thank youuuu!
foods not that good at denny's D: but where else are we gonna feed 50 hungry people?
good for groups?: yes yes yes!
This would be the place that me and my friend's would head to after a big night of partying or clubbing in East side. It's not like we love to eat here but it's the only non-asian place to eat at late hours of the night.
The service here is pretty crappy and we still come back because there's no other choice. It's nothing different than any other Denny's except the fact that the food takes light years to arrive. When requesting extra water or napkins, they usually forget about it, so we don't bother. Everytime eating here me and my friends would try to guess how long it would take our food to come and usually it was wayyy longer than we'd expect. So if I can give this place a -5 stars I would have done so. SO AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST IT"S A CRAP HOLE!!!!!!!!!!one!
of course dennys is going to get a 3 star for the food.
the service was amazing..
i love this place only because it's open late late until the morning..
after our concert last night we came here and the service was awesome..
i love the fact that the people there are still nice even though it's so late.
a racist history
back in my late teen years early 20's, this was the place of choice to grab something to eat after a night partying. me and my close circle of friends (people of color) would choose this location only for it's close proximity of everyone's home since we were carpool whores.
one particular night, we came 8 deep. we all had our favorites, not saying that denny's has the best tasting food in the area, but our favorites on their menu. something different happened. we paid before we received our food, which is usual for a fast food place, not a restaurant. then we noticed people who are not of color ordering without having to pay 1st. interesting.
then our food came.
i ordered pancakes and when i received them, they looked like they were used as hockey pucks on their kitchen floor. literally. they looked dirty. no golden brown fluffy pancakes, just a dirt brown almost over cooked pancakes. i couldn't beleive my eyes.
"oh - my - god! you expect me to eat this?" i immediately pushed it to the center of the table with disgust. half of us received crappy meals and the other were just ok.
needless to say we got our money back and someone forgot to contact me to add me on to racially discriminatory law suit that netted for about 500k.
i continue to ban denny's to this day
