I have verbally "slammed" Denny's and rarely given them my business over the years because (past experience) the food was bordering on lousy and service was barely adequate.   I'm guessing they've gotten it together or at least at this location, because actually it was pretty good.

My friend and I both remembered seeing an IHOP when arriving at the Motel 6 Friday night, but after driving a couple blocks and not seeing it, we decided just to go to Denny's since we wanted to be at the race track in an hour.

SERVICE: The service was really pretty good!   Our server was very nice, had good energy, checked on us a number of times through out our meal to make sure everything was OK and to refill our beverages.

My only "issue" was as we were finishing our BREAKFAST, she came by, holding a menu open to the dessert page, naming 3 or 4 and asking which one we wanted.   Really?    OK, I can understand pushing desserts at lunch & dinner, but at 7:15 AM???    No wonder we Americans are overweight!   (Wait... did I just blame the waitress for our Nations obesity problem?)   LOL

FOOD: I ordered the "new" Santa Fe Skillet, which has chorizo, onions, peppers, shrooms, red potatoes and 2 eggs on top.   It was actually pretty good!   The Chorizo was surprisingly spicy and very TASTY!

My buddies did the "Build Your Own Breakfast" thing and were happy with what they got.

OVERALL:  I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and service at this location.   If it's like this at all the locations, I might not wait another 6 or 8 years to go back.

This is the single greatest Denny's ever. I have been to a lot of Denny's, since it used to be cool to go in high school and smoke there and drink coffee. I no longer drink coffee, smoke or go to high school. Plus it's thankfully illegal to smoke in most restaurants everywhere. Yay!
The service here is wacky amazing. I've never been when it's been crowded, but I make it a point to stop on my way to or back from the Bay.

To I personally don't I don't like to eat at Denny's but his one is very different. When we drive on hwy 5 to So Cal we always call in Advance and order your turkey Club and burgers for the kids or pancake breakfast. This past Monday we did the same.

We were in and out pretty damm fast and that's why we order in advanced. You should try it some time.

    Not bad for a Denny's

I went to this Denny's in the wonderful, cow-poop smelling town of Buttonwillow, CA on my way home to the bay area. There appeared to be only one waitress working so it took awhile, but she was as tentative to us as possible. It took a rather long time for us to get our food...I felt that we had been waiting longer than usual, but once we got our food, it was delicious! I had a regular burger with seasoned fries and it was great. One of the better meals I've enjoyed from a Denny's.

One thing that particularly stuck out to me was that the place wasn't as run down as most of the other Denny's locations I've been to. It was cleaner and brighter than usual, which was rather pleasing. Pretty good for your average Denny's.

Also, don't get the cherry limeade. It tastes like medicine. I got the Hawaiian smoothie (limited time only?) and it was really good!

Empty night but service was lacking, though our waitress was really nice. Food was standard Denny's grade. Not too noisy

LOL reviewing a Denny's in the middle of nowhere.  I still think that weary travelers up and down the 5 freeway have a right to yelp what places they can recharge and refuel.

With that said, keep going past Buttonwillow and find another place.  I haven't tried enough Denny's along the 5 to know which one is the best one, but this is not it.  Their service is great, but the quality of food is worse than your average Denny's in the city.  Salads are full of withered and dead leaves, chicken wings are dry, mashed potatoes are crumbly and salad dressings are congealed.

Probably better off getting food at a major fast food chain like McDonalds, Jack, Wendy's or Taco Bell.  Food is not as hearty, but definitely offers consistency.

    Surprisingly fantastic service.

But it's a Denny's so I have a moral aversion to giving it more than 3 stars.

My parents and I stopped here for dinner before going through the grapevine and to refuel.

Since there was only one waitress, she was attentive, straight forward and able to wait about 6 tables at once. When people came in through the door, she greeted them in a timely manner.

I had a mushroom burger with onion rings while my parents ordered food off the senior citizen menu. Food was mediocre but the service was good.

When my husband and I brought our disheveled selves into this Denny's on our drive back up to the Bay Area from So Cal, we were immediately greeted and told we could be seated at any open table of our choice. We had our baby with us so we wanted to find a baby friendly booth.  We were hoping to put our car seat inside a booth instead of using a high chair, but our booth wouldn't fit the car seat. Our server Norma was helpful in getting us a high chair that also functions as a car seat holder so we didn't have to move the baby anywhere.

For some reason, I thought they'd have more omelette selections and it seems like Dennys changed their menu , but this is really a corporate decision that's unrelated to the individual restaurants out there.  Our food orders came quickly. Quality was fine-basically what you'd expect from Denny's.

People came by a few times during our meal to see if we needed anything. Our waters were refilled. Dishes we were through with were promptly taken away. The service was great!

Aside from the customer service, what also made this Denny's experience stand out was that their multi-stall ladies' room was very clean as well. Maybe they'd just cleaned the restroom before I came because the floor was sorta wet when I got there, as if it had just been mopped. No complaints. It's all good.

I have to say that I have never been as happy as I was when I saw that there was a Denny's in this town as the other eating establishments were even worse looking!

Typical Denny's. I am on a low carb diet so it's hard to find good food here. I was greeted at the door by the host who wished me a "Good Morning" (I was there for dinner). My response: "Good morning?", Host: "Yes, it's always a good morning at Denny's". Some great marketing campaign there...

After perusing the Carb laden menu I decided to get the grilled chicken breast with rice replaced by extra vegetables. The food arrived quickly. The chicken had a pool of cooking grease in the middle. Yum! All this while I was able to watch a Flatscreen TV hanging from the ceiling with the "Denny's" channel. Does Denny's really need to bring one of the worst habits in America of eating in front of the TV into the Dining Room?

I came back for breakfast. I was looking forward to the "Good Morning" greeting as it would actually make sense! Or, would they wish me a "Good Evening" to push their dinner menu? Neither it turns out. Just a simple "Hi".

Sat down and was able to find a good low-carb omelet (thank goodness for Breakfast). The TV was cranking out a fitness program encouraging the audience to "get into it". Uh, Denny's, have you looked at your target market? Suffered through decent coffee and headed off to Starbucks for a follow-up.

    Good service though...

Yucky icky.  Understaffed, unspectacular food, and cramped restrooms.  Use this if you must.

I always drop by whenever I travel from northern to southern California (and vice versa). Service was a bit slow last time I went there but that's just because it was really busy. Or at least that's what the waitress said. Food is great. My cappuccino was very tasty.

3 stars because of the wait & the food was a little above average

I must say that all the bad reviews from late 2008 and older really had me worried. But this Denny's has come around!

As soon as I walked in (for dinner) I was greeted with "Good morning and welcome to Denny's". Interesting marketing idea. I was seated promptly. A waitress as well as a gentleman (perhaps the manager) came by often to ask if I was ready to order. I ordered a salad and soup which were delivered immediately (they were probably already made and just sitting in the back). The gentleman brought me complementary dinner rolls which was a first for my Denny's experiences!

My glass of water was never empty however empty plates were picked up by any number of the waitstaff who happened to be walking by.

I cannot say enough about how pleased I was with the service. In total I spent less than $10 yet they treated me like I was fine dining at a steakhouse. If you have had a bad experience here in the past I urge you to give this Denny's another shot.

The only reason I cannot give this establishment 5 stars is because it's a freakin dennys :P

This place was just like any other Denny's I have been to in the past. I had the T-bone steak and I asked for medium rare but wasn't given that. The meat didn't seem as fresh as I would have expected. The service was good till two of the servers started to argue. I understand if maybe they lowered their voice but no the whole freaking place could hear them. I would have otherwise given the place 3 stars. Located off the 5 and next to a couple of gas stop and motels. Conviently located when driving up and down California and nothing else is open.

My dad is a personal GSP unit when it comes to Denny's. He knows the locations of them all. So, naturally, when we needed to decide where to stop on the 5 between LA a& SF, he steered us toward Button willow's Denny's.
The wait staff was exceptionally patient and accommodating, considering my family is crazy when alone individually and just unbearable when together. It took very little time to get seated. There was a crowd as it was the end of UC Berkeley's spring break week, but turnover was high.
The food was just fine. I had the Lumberjack Slam. It was tasty enough for me to be satisfied, but not too tasty that I felt I had to eat more than half of this plate of fat. I always forget that the default at Denny's is to butter toast to high heaven.
The parking lot is not to terribly packed. There are gas stations all over for your car to refuel after you do. The restrooms are not clean, but they are better than the gas station options.  If you are too timid to try the mom 'n' pops in the area, this Denny's is a fairly safe bet.

I always stop here for breakfast after a night at the local Motel 6 before I head south to LA. The staff are always very courteous in the morning and last time I was there a few weeks ago, we got exactly what we wanted for breakfast WITH A SMILE even when they brought out the wrong dish they immediately tossed it and replaced it with what we ordered although we really didn't care as we were still waking up and getting through our morning coffee. Cheap gas across the street at the TA and off we go to LA. Will be back again next time we are on the road to LA from Nor Cal for brekky.
