We enjoyed our lobster lunch. Glad to get real french fries instead of ones frozen in a sulfite bath. Friendly, efficient service.
The dollar bills are back on the ceiling! -

Came here by boat last summer for lunch. Decent looking bar on the inside, but we focused on the great view from the deck. Food was fine but not overly memorable. Service was pleasant and they did a good job accommodating our fairly large group. Everything was full market price, but what do you expect during the season? There are precious few other choices if you want to be on the water...

I was initially impressed with Dennett's Wharf, as I am with the rest of Castine, ME. It was August, and we were seated outside on the deck, which was very nice. The menu had a lot of variety and items for kids. We were happy with the beer selection and our waitress was nice and served us quickly. It was after we placed our order that things went downhill. We asked for oranges for our beer and a plastic spoon, which never came. We asked again, but nothing. It took entirely too long to get our first course and an hour later we were still waiting for dinner. By this time it was very cold on the deck and we had two small children with us. Finally our dinner came. While eating, a staff member came and closed all of the panels to insulate the restaurant, leaving our table outside with some heat from the restaurant. It was cold. A few minutes later a party arrived and sat in the inside, heated area, and asked the staff member to close the remaining panel, keeping our party entirely outside. It was not necessary and they could have been seated elsewhere in the restaurant. I commented that we would like to have access to the remaining heat from the restaurant, given that we had a baby and a toddler, but she closed it anyway. Yes, we could have moved, but we were nearly finished dinner, the same dinner we waited for over an hour.
Aside from that, the food was mediocre. The chowder was excellent and the fish was good. Our orders were slightly incorrect, and we were just given the check rather than offered dessert or coffee. No need to return here. -

FYI - My review is only in relation to the late night menu. I did not try the normal dinner menu as it was too late.
I got the Jumbo Chicken Wings with Thai curry flavor and pizza. Well it was basic bar food and as basic bar food goes, it was alright. We were just glad to have something to eat at night as everything else was closed.
Pizza was good as long as it was hot. The jumbo chicken wings were another story. We are not big meat fans and to see whole chicken arms on your plate with skin, it is not a good sight. So it may be our own aversion to meat more than the food that was presented.
The nachos and other food that people were getting looked good. Service and atmosphere is great. People were really nice.

After driving along the coast all morning we worked our way down into Castine for a spot of lunch in Historical Castine.
We wanted to take a look at the world's longest oyster bar (where they now hold Maine's oyster-eating contest.) Upon entering the restaurant you are greeted by friendly staff standing beneath a tall peaked roof whose eves are covered with tacked up dollar bills.
Why? How? The dollars have been taken down twice in recent years, sent to aide needs after 9-11 and Katrina. Thousands of dollars left tacked to the eves by generous patrons.
On to lunch... we were seated out on the dock under an awning with a beautiful view of the harbor and boats. Go.Eat.The grilled crab meat melt sandwich. Yum! The fish (local haddock) and chips went over very well too!! Perhaps try the local organic Cap'n Eli's Blueberry soda or root beer. Both Yum!! And don't pass by on the dessert! Peanut butter pie, Strawberry shortcake and a chocolate cake/white chocolate confection were enjoyed to be sure!
The staff takes care of keeping the seagulls at bay with help from some powerful water guns.
Oh - and we each gave a dollar and watched them be thrown onto the roof. Who? Stop on my to find out! -

This was the second place I had lobster on my three-day lobster roll fest. We were bummed that the Castine Variety had closed, the first time in seventy-someodd years, and just after winning the Best Lobster Roll Award for all of Maine, too. How the hell does that work? The owner of one of the hotels said it had been a hard winter.
So we went to Dennett's Wharf and, as this was on a drizzly day in May, the place, like the town, was dead. The cute waitress was very friendly (I hope you make it out to California!), and we (read: I) could have talked to her all day. While staring out at the rain, up at the board of rope knots, and down at the nautical maps on the table, we ate lobster rolls that were better than the ones we had the day before (in those classic hot dog-esque buns) with large chunks of fresh-tasting lobster. Our only beef was that it really wasn't that much lobster, and for $18, we were hoping for more than what we got. Still, it was a neat place, and I'd like to see it when it's busy. I'll be back soon, Dennett's! -

I can't give zero stars as that's not an option. My husband and I tried to eat here today. We were seated and given a menu by a young man, then nothing. We waited about 10 minutes for an acknowledgement that the server had seen us, but after she checked on the table next to us and asked if they needed anything more and still did not speak to us, not even a " I'll be right with you", we promptly left.

We stopped in here while roaming around Maine looking at the lighthouses. Dice Head Lighthouse is about 3 miles from here .
We were pleasd with our choice. it was a nice day so we sat on the outdoor deck overlooking the water.
We were there for lunch and I had a Lobster Roll Sandwich which was delicious - a bit expensive but definitely worth it. The cole slaw was also very good- the way i like it a mix of both sweet and sour tastes with neither overpowering the other.
The service was quick and attentive. The view was very nice as well.
The portions were fine and though it might have been a bit on the high side for price we still enjoyed our meal here and would go back agin if we find ourselves in this area again.

A great view of the water on the outside deck, and straight forward no-nonsense food. I was a little sad to see that the bills that used to line the cieling of Dennett's are no more under the new ownership, the food you can count on is still the same. When we're in town we pop into Dennett's for the steamers and their selection of cold beers and ciders on tap.

Mixed & ultimately disappointing. Steamed mussels were excellent, but more than 1 slice bread would cost extra. Peek toe crab fresh & tasty, but clam chowder bland; tasted watered down. Expensive given quality of food. Lunch for 2 over $50 Won't return. Also, they don't take American Express
