Denise was definitely one of the nicest teachers I've had when it comes to exercising. The class was BEYOND packed, and yet she was totally accommodating and STILL managed to make her way around the room to observe that everyone was doing the exercise right. I LOVE when instructors actually fix your mistakes by physically correcting your body instead of just telling you what you are doing wrong. I liked how she asked what everyone's fitness level was in general and having to do with pilates. Also, she explained each exercise thoroughly and even told us what we should be feeling. She also incorporated some Yoga moves which got me and Chere excited since we take Yoga =)
Definitely will come to one of her classes again!

TURBO KICK!!!! I feel SO good after this class! Denise teaches Turbo Kick, this new cardio class with a lot of kickboxing influence, but basically every other fun class you could want to take is mixed in.
It was 75 minutes of getting my butt kicked. She took plenty of time showing us how to do all the moves. She watched the class and gave us little breaks (very quick, little, keep moving your feet but have a sip of water breaks). She was very in touch with the class. She was encouraging, corrected people's form, and checked on people when they looked like they weren't feeling well.
Her energy was great, the workout and the music were really well coordinated. This class was just right, I was able to keep up, but felt challenged. Apparently, this class is set up into a group of 4 progressive classes.
It was fun and a great workout!

Turbo Kick!
I went to the Turbo Kick demo at Bally's and all I have to say is that by the time I was done, I was loving it! I was hurting for the next week from this work out. Now, if I had the money and the ability to go back every week, I would have.
Denise was great. She was full of energy and she kept us going. There wasn't much time in between sets to drink our waters or even breathe. And it was like a moving, keep walking kinda sipping water. 75 minutes of hard core non-stop combination of cardio kickboxing, yoga, tai-chi, dance, all of the above, all rolled into one class.
She made sure that everyone had correct form. She went through some instructional moves before hand so we knew what we were going to expect. She paid attention to the class and worked us hard core. And it was soooooo worth it. Despite being sore for the next week.....
Thanks again for having us!

Denise was super accommodating to us Yelpers--allowing us to drop-in on her pilates class at Bally's for $7. Even though the class was quite full, she made everyone feel welcome and took the time to explain each exercise for the newbies.
I've only taken one pilates class before and it was pretty different from this one. We utilized resistance rings instead of bands, but it was really great for working those inner thigh muscles. I could definitely feel the burn in my bum once we started doing the leg exercises! I appreciated the fact that Denise went around the room to check everyone's positions and make sure we were in the correct form. This is so important for any exercise class because you want to make sure you don't pull any muscles by accident! We also did a bit of yoga/meditation to wind down the class, and it was sooo nice and relaxing. I would definitely take another class with Denise again!

Denise Delivered!!!!!
Y.W.C took a pilates class this past Saturday at Bally's (in the porter sq mall).....our instructor was Denise, who is the bomb. I liked her attitude, I liked her sense of humor and most especially I liked her teaching style. Her spunky attitude and hawt red hair is a far cry from several instructors I have taken classes with at other gyms.!!!!!
She managed to hold down a huge class of pilates-go-ers, ranging from young to old, men to women, more experienced to noobs. She didn't miss a beat. She made sure to not only show the class the moves, but she walked around to check on people and correct them in the most positive way-finisher her rounds by the time each set was to be "released." She also gave suggestions for people to modify the move, based on their fitness level. Not just "go at it" and "improvise" as other instructor might do.
The class itself consisted of standard pilates moves on mats (no machines) with the accompaniment of a "rings".....intertwined was some yoga moves-think planks and Downward Facing Dog poses. If there is one thing I learned, it is that the smallest move can be effective if you have the correct form.....Jeesh, we moved our leg in a circle the size of a freekin quarter and I felt the "burn".........
The music perfectly accompanied the moves and towards cool down, she shut off the lights and headed a short chant and quick breathing exercise.
I felt so relaxed and limber afterwards.......my SO was siked ......I kid, I kid...... but for real, I am going to accompany Amanda to one of her Yoga classes.
What most impressed me with Denise, was after class. We were all gathered in our regular clothes and deciding on what to do next, she came up to us and wanted our input...she asked us how we felt...she asked if we liked the class....WOW!...she also made sure to inform us of her new class that includes kickboxing, Tai Bo, Hip Hop, Yoga and pilates - everyone wants to take it and I am sure a large % has to do with her being the instructor.

I've never taken a group class at a gym and never tried Pilates, thinking it was meant for girls. Of course being part of Yelp means having the opportunity to try new things without embarrassment and the support of other Yelpers, so I decide to try this Pilates (also knowing that other guys were going to be there of course). Our instructor Denise made sure to check what level people were at so that she could properly set the difficulty of the various moves. She was very thorough in her instruction and made sure to go around and check on people and help those that she felt needed some assistance. I could definitely feel the burn during the class. It was a really good workout without feeling out of breath. She even threw in some yoga moves and by the end of the workout I felt enlightened from much of the stress I had built up during the week. Of course being with a group of Yelp friends makes it that much more enjoyable since you get to eat and be merry after the workout. Who would think working out on the weekend could be this much fun?

For the YWC (Yelp Workout Club), Chere and Orly organzied a class with Denise at Bally's. This was a beginner's Pilates class. I have taken Pilates before and even though some of the exercises are the same, I always have different experiences. When you have different instructors, this is bound to happen. Our group alone had 9 people and there were several other people in the class. So much so that there was no more room on the floor!
Despite the size, Denise was a wonderful instructor. She first gave a little history and information on what Pilates is for people who had never taken it before. I really liked that she explained the fundamentals and really helped us to visualize what we were doing.
We did some exercises that I had never done before in a Pilates class. I have taken harder classes, but Denise really cared about knowing people's fitness levels and working to incorporate some harder exercises along with easier ones so that everyone got value.
Also, this class was HUGE and she still went around and observed everyone in the class. She took the time to correct people that may have had the wrong form and several times she asked everyone is if they were okay and doing well. She was an attentive and kind instructor.
Along with Pilates she teaches other classes. She just started one that includes cardio, kickboxing, Tai Bo, Pilates, Yoga and dance. The YWC wants to take this class as well.
Denise kicks ass (literally and figuratively!) and I really enjoyed her class. A+
