I would say this was a typical burger joint similar to stanfords..so definately a place to go to for happy hour.
I didn't think the menu had that much of a selection -I ended up with the spicy chicken club- it was okay but I liked the fact that I could sub the fries for the soup (which was okay too) everything was just not enough to remember much about...
however..they do have a really great mac and cheese that will fill you up in just a couple of bites!
fyi-- full salads could pass for a small
Two words: cheap burgers
Two more words: On Wednesday
Several more words: this place was fairly desolate for a lunch joint with such a bomb special for the day. (don't get me wrong, I know why they'd do it...hump day business is sluggish! I was in DECA. I know how these things work) ANYWAY - $4 burgers! FOUR DOLLAR BURGERS! I've been on a four dollar boycott lately, but this is an exception. Four dollars for a meal is a FREAKING GREAT DEAL. And it wasn't a crummy meal. It was nothing I'd freak out about. I might stop in on another wednesday, but I'm not going to make any special attempts to make a stop in.
MINUS ONE STAR for the rancid ketchup. Yeah, I noticed. You know that when you 'marry' the bottles of ketchup, it ferments? I can tell because it's got bubbles in it. And it's gross. Stop doing that.
I can now vouch that the mac and cheese is amazing! The fries are not too great, though, especially when you order the loaded ones with bacon and cheese but they come out plain. Oh, the disappointment!
One tip, ladies: If you go to the bathroom, make sure you bring your cell phone because if if the main door and stall doors are opened at the same moment, you might all get stuck in there for hours unless you can call for help. Maybe bring some trail mix, too.

I can only give this place 3 stars because I rudely didn't order anything when I was there last… Read more »
First off: this is a good place to come after a horrendous movie at Harvard Exit; I'm sorry, but I should've known not to see it after the Stranger gave "A Serious Man" a thumbs up review.
Anyway, all that mess aside, let me say that the drinks are very good and they have excellent seasonal options. The crabcake appetizer was delicious; the calamari was quite good, and the chicken tender appetizer was horrible. Chicken was overfried and not a whole lot of meat. This place is alright; I'd just stop in for crabcakes, but probably not much else, concerning appetizers.
Okay I know I have said this before. But why? Why did you change?
I used to think you where the best on cap hill. I brought all my friends to meet you. Your burgers lost their taste and you want more money from me. Your fries became horriable.
For some reason I still bring my friends to meet you...........
I really want things to go back the way they where.
Love,
G
I just want to add that John Henry is my favorite waiter here. I think I have had everyone several times over and he is always friendly, funny and attentive!
Still loving me some Wed night burgers! =]

Ahhh burger-rama, it's so nice to see you again after a year and a half. I missed you.

Lots of options for brunch. Food is diner-ish nothing fancy - just good ol fashion grub! I'm a chicken fried steak Nazi so I gave it a go here... Not the best (steak was tough) gravy and biscuit however was very good. Hubs had the smoked Cajun scramble - just ok as well (not much Cajun spice just andouille sausage - I think they need to rename this dish) service was swift and atmosphere was great - ask for a table near the back so you watch Football while brunching. Have not been here for din din or happy hour but the menu looks promising. Hope I have deluxe experience the next time I return....
Came here with a friend for happy hour, we were very disappointed in the chicken tenders, we sent them back twice-over fried, tasted burnt. How can you not make chicken tenders right??
The calamari was good as were the onion rings
I did like the decor...the round booths were nice and big!
Wait staff was friendly.
Used to be the best place for happy hour garlic fries but the style of fries changed for the worse I hope they bring back the old fries. Other then that I'd go to Deluxe anytime rather then Apple Bees.
I really want to give it 5 stars- amazing service, boyfriend loves the crab cakes, awesome seasonal drinks- but the chicken tenders were less than ok, the fries decent. Maybe I just ordered the wrong meal. I will definitely return, just won't get the chicken tenders again.
The Delux is a good place for good American dishes if it doesn't make you sick after. Went there last week with friends and had their famous crab cakes. It was true. Their crab cakes were out of this world good, but what wasn't good was the tummy ache that I got later.
My friends's hamburgers and dipped beef sandwiches looked great though and they didn't get stomach aches. Maybe it was just my crab cakes.
Man, oh man. My friends and I love Deluxe with all of our hearts and souls. The food is incredible and the drinks are fantastic (though a little weak). The only thing this place could really improve on is the speed of service. It feels like everybody at the table is often in need of the server as they don't come around very often at all.
Oh, well. Doesn't stop us from going there. :) Just a smidge aggravating.
As midwestern transplant to the Seattle area, I have been desperately searching for a good place to get a burger.
I thought the area was great, fun to people watch... We sat on the patio and it was just perfect. The food was great, and they had a pretty good selection of beer.
The reason they didn't get 5/5 was because the service was a bit slow. I think it was a 2 hour meal... which was fine because we were in relax mode, but it might not always work!
I'm not going to lie. I usually just come here on Wednesdays for their half-priced burgers. But I really like the place. It's cramped and the staff can some times give you the stink eye though I think I like that from this joint.
The burgers aren't amazing and appear to just be preformed patties. I'm cool with that though because I mean, a burger's a burger in my book. But if you go and grab one be sure to do the Art's Louisiana because the garlic onion topping can turn that preformed patty into one heck of an experience. And ask for extra napkins because it's going to get messy!
After a absolutely *HORRIBLE* movie viewing at the Harvard Exit, my friend and I decided we needed a beer and some food... STAT.
We sauntered in and sat at the bar, and our bartender for the evening greeted us quickly. We each got a beer, and ordered a couple appetizers and they were delicious. We split the chipotle quesadillas and the sliders. Both were tasty... the chipotle spicy yummyness was my favorite.
Everything seemed fine, however, a woman who barely looked of age, was clearly intoxicated (she told me it was her third time in that day) came and sat down next to me, and then started to hit on me. Yeah, drunkness hitting on me? Rad. So I gave my date an awkward "Let's get out of here, please" look and he nodded, and we were on our way.
Granted, everything else about our experience was good, but someone that is obviously intoxicated shouldn't have even been served.
I am really bummed to be giving this place only 3 stars, the old deluxe would of gotten 4 if not 5 stars
so I had just gotten to Vivace and everyone was getting up and I just started to walk with them, and I was like you guys going for food ? yes we are going to the Deluxe for Cheese Burgers, do you want to join us ?
Who am I to turn down a Cheese Burger, hell you had me at Cheese
so I made 8 people all together, we got lucky and a party of 8 had just finished dessert so they were gonna clear the tables and get us seated in like 10 minutes, way cool on that, and they let us get separate checks and didn't add in no crazy gratuity amount, we tip well anyways so they got paid for damn good service, had 2 people each time they came to the table, and were fast and efficient
now for the burger I got the Broadway and Roy Burger, it is a 1/2 lb Kobe Beef burger on a Bolo roll with fresh shoe string fries, Tomato and lettuce with 1000 island dressing, this also come with what looked like fresh cut Fries but they didn't taste like fresh fries, they were kinda bland
Now the Kobe Beef for 12.95 for a hamburger it should have some taste to it ? it was perfectly cooked for me just pink in the middle and charcoal on the out side, but it had no flavor to it I mean come on guys season your meat before you cook it maybe a little salt and pepper ?
I don't know but my self and one other person got the Broadway and Roy burger and we both were disappointed, I would of rather gotten a regular burger and saved a few bucks
Now your Onion Rings kick ass and the Jalapeno mayo to dip them in rocks also
Big plus also they have RC Cola on Tap that Fucking Rocks!!!
I will probably go back and try a regular Cheese Burger, but my first impression is there are better 1/2 lb Burgers on Broadway
The mac & cheese is very good, and very healthy! (Only half of that statement is true...guess which half!). The atmosphere was nice, the prices were decent, the service was fine. They have beer, though I didn't partake. I'd go back next time I'm in town.
And this may be my shortest restaurant review ever!
A few friends of mine do a weekly thing here during the weeknight to take advantage of the Deluxe special - certain burgers cheaper than they are normally. I'm sorry I can't exactly remember the time of it, but after 8pm sounds right. I know, this review is already off to a bad start. =P
What I love about Deluxe:
*Comfy booths
*Nice, friendly, & quick waitstaff
*Great bar and drink specials
*Warm and inviting
*Perfect for small groups
Makes me want to eat burgers and drink more - can't say more than that!
reviewing the bar only -
see I really do want to like the deluxe as a place to grab a drink. It's close, has some atmosphere and history but every time I leave a little pissed off. It's not the service, exactly, or the tight quarters... it's just ... annoying?
'course I do keep going back.
I feel like everything good about Deluxe is gone. Their fries used to be awesome, now they're pretty bland. Their happy hour just changed so only a select few appetizers are included, which eliminated my usual option of the chipotle quesadilla. Their veggie burgers are okay... but just okay.
The service staff is friendly, if not a little slow. They have a decent draft selection that's constantly rotating, but their mixed drinks are weak and generally unimpressive.
We always end up coming back when we're sick of everywhere else, but regret it every time.
Traditional pub style atmosphere but very new looking. They have a good happy hour menu and decent specials. There is a good beer selection on tap, innovative cocktails and "beertails", and a sizable choice of american style food. I love a place that has good burgers but also good mac & cheese as well! The prices are pretty average for a place like this but they have happy hour specials and a deal on Wednesdays.
I came here for happy hour and tried out some appetizers, since they were half-off. Although the sliders aren't dressed up at all, the burger was cooked well and tasted great, making me anticipate their regular full-sized burgers. The fries were seasoned and came with a nice tartar sauce blend that included, maybe pesto or something, I don't remember off-hand. I've had better mac & cheese but I still thought it was really good. The service was very friendly and pretty quick. I will be back here soon on a Wednesday to try a burger and fries for $4.99 with a purchase of a beverage!
I'm a regular here. I love that my bartender knows what I want before I sit down.
I made my first friends when I moved here, at the Deluxe. and we are all still friends.
New Years Day, my posse and I decided to brunch here. You did get that, right. New Years DAY! That's right. I actually somehow pulled myself out into the world and walked somewhere. It was amazing and I've got to say, a great start to 2009...hangover and all.
After being seated, we all ordered a very fair amount of drinks. Because one of the homies was on constant parch, the waiter got his fill of exercising running back and forth pouring glasses and glasses of water. He should get some major props for all of that effort guys because let me tell you, we were drinking like camels.
The monte crisco came out a little burnt. After having been raved about on the way up, I was disappointed to hear that my girl wished she had ordered something else. My salmon sandwich was ok but not to die for nor to venture out of the way for. I did spy some other orders that I may be back for but nothing I can't vouch to say that it'd be worth it.
One major selling point however was the service. Our waiter was not only diligent and intuitive but he was FUNNY! And by gawd he thought we were too. It helped that we had Scott K. and Julea with us of course. There's nothing better than good people, good food and a server who is willing to not only be flat out awesome but add some humour to your meal.
There is nothing special about the Deluxe. The food is your standard bar and grill fare, prepared tolerably. The service and atmosphere are friendly, nothing over the top. The prices seem comparable to other place on Broadway. The one thing about hti place that seemed a little fun or different was the selection of "beertails", which are a blends like Guiness & cider, or white ale and lambic beer. I was skeptical but they were pretty good.
Finally, they charged my companion's card twice, which I'm sure will be fixed, but is an inconvenience.
Whatever, Deluxe.
I really like deluxe. Esp when my FAVORITE manager is working. You'll see her if your a regular, she's got black curly hair i think she may be a mix ethnicity maybe asian and black? or maybe black and white iuno, regardless whenever she's on clock, the music is GROOOOVINNGGG!!!
can't complain with half priced appetizers and discounted burgers. GO THERE DURING HAPPY HOUR, BEST TIME EVER.
they have a full bar for those who like to indulge in some alcohol and they have sodas, iced tea (yum), hot teas, coffee, everything really haha
we always go in a huge group because there's so much food u want but it's so big you know you can't finish it all. So we'll have each person order something different so each of us can mooch haha.
the polynesian wings are YUMMMMMM
and the quesidilla DROOOOOOOL
the bacon cheese fries are a MUST!
everything on that menu that i've tried is amazing!
the only downturn is the service. We go in so often and in such big groups (5 or more) that we are usually recognized by the manager. Shes super cool. But sometimes, we'll get a server who's new or someone whos in a bad mood and it'll sorta kill our mood. But it's whatever. Deluxe hasn't let me down yet! (: yay and hopefully it never does
A somewhat generic bar and grill type establishment, like what you might find in a hotel. Trying to be chic and hip, but with nothing original or with character. Seems like they do an OK business due to the fact that there is nothing better nearby.
That's all well and good, but... the service can at time be horrendous, ranging from fake and disingenuous to indifferent to downright rude. One while waiting to be seated, one person told us to wait. A few moments later we stepped a bit into the bar in an effort to ask a simple question and were told to go back to where we were and wait. Following this pointlessly brusk interaction, another person came and seated us. Only a few minutes had passed before the first person came to our table and accused us of seating ourselves, something we never gave any indication of intending to do. Who needs this type of service?
Finally, the Deluxe is one of those establishments that add a nice fat 18% tip onto your check if your party has a whole 6 people or more. Guess they want to make sure you pay for good service regardless of whether you get good service or not.
I live right around the corner and find myself at DeLuxe probably three or four times a month. The service is consistently good (outstanding, for the Hill), the food is good and not overpriced, the drinks are delicious, and they stay open late with a full menu until closing! I often bring visitors and meet friends here.
My favorites here are the calamari and the mac & cheese (loaded with BACON!), and the burgers aren't bad either -- especially a great deal on Wednesdays, during Burgerama! Of the mixed drinks, the Plum Cosmo is excellent, and I could drink it all day (and then stumble home).
I have only two complaints: they were having trouble with a distributor, so swapped out my beloved Ace Perry Cider for a Fox Pear Cider that is nowhere near as good, and their new chef took the Key Lime pie off the menu (as I found out last night). I can live without those things (since I can get both at QFC just up the block) so I'll still patronize DeLuxe on a regular basis.
It's pretty obvious.
For something called deluxe, all their stuff was mediocre. And in that case, that's when you relegate on premium. That was a bit hard to do here, or even something good at that.
I barely finished my steak salad here, and the mango martini was just a poor excuse for a martini. The only thing that was good was the macaroni and cheese, but that goes to say that in the Pacific Northwest--if you fuck up mac and cheese, you will be out of business.
I might come back to try a burger, or if I am intoxicated and the sometimes underwhelming culinary landscape of Seattle has nothing to offer me.
Two words: Burger Wednesday.
When I first moved to Seattle, nearly twenty years ago, I still ate beef. I still drank beer. And I lived just a few blocks from the Deluxe,
It became a regular hang out for me, especially on Wednesdays when any burger in the house could be had for only $4! Always decent food. Always decent service. Always decent beer. A girl could do worse.
Over the years, I've gone to the Deluxe on occasion, but over the past year or so, have rediscovered the joy that is Burger Wednesday.
I no longer eat beef, but you can sub a chicken patty on any burger for only $1. I no longer drink beer, but you can get a glass of house red for only $3.95 (now at any time of day, not just at happy hour). The burgers are no longer $4, but are now only $5 (and to go up that little in that many years is pretty darn good). I no longer live just a few blocks from the Deluxe, but it is still only a short, and worthwhile, jaunt away...
Excellent happy hour and great service. Would definitely return again. Burger nights are great, and the pulled pork sliders are delicious.
There is so much that is right about Deluxe. Year after year it remains solid. The sandwich menu is great, and I really like getting hot fries or onion rings that taste fresh.
Deluxe is across the street from the self-important Poppy, but offers a more appealing Americana menu for my tastes. I also find the prices far more reasonable.
This is also a restaurant that thrived on its burgers, which are never bad.
The food here is good. That is it. I go here when ever I want just good ole american diner food. No big frills nothing special, Just good every time I go.
I've been here numerous times, and I've always found the experience to be generally good. I've brought my parents here a few times, and they've enjoyed it. It's a great place to bring city-shy visitors, and it seems like anyone can find something good to eat on the menu. My husband gets really excited about the baked potatoes. He likes potatoes...
*It should be noted that I've never been during happy hour.*
I am a mac and cheese aficionado, and theirs is pretty fantastic. Gooey blue cheesy goodness. Actually, it is this mac and cheese that helped me overcome my dislike of blue cheese. The first time I ordered it, I was scared of the blue cheese on top, but I put on my big girl pants and tried it anyway. Nom! Nom! Nom! I would say it's the only reason I've been so many times. Otherwise, I find this place to be pretty "meh." Tip: Order the mini mac and cheese from the appetizer list, rather than the entree. It's much more filling than it sounds. I promise.
On the one occasion that I branched out and ordered something other than mac and cheese, I was disappointed. The cheese was applied very sparingly to my nachos. I mean, I wasn't aware we were having a cheese shortage. Am I right? Upsetting. Maybe they had used too much on everyone's mac and cheese. Anyway, as I said the food is pretty good.
One thing I would stay away from is the cocktails. They are weak and expensive. Not worth the price, and I fall for it everytime. They all sound so yummy and fun. Grape snowcone? Yes please. Then it just tastes like a bunch of sugar, and not even really good sugar. Every damn time I wonder if they forgot to add the shots.
So, long story short - this is a good place if you're just grabbing dinner, not a good place for a long night of drinky fun.
I loved this place from the minute we walked in! We were greeted and seated right away.
Now. I only like going to crowded places because i think it lends to the experience. I also LOVE to people watch and pass superficial judgements on those around me! Free entertainment!
Well at Deluxe, its all of the above! Crowded, but we got a table right away. Full of interesting people of all ages and lifestyles. Complete fun!
They have a great drinks menu. Some new stuff and all the standards. We started off with the mac n cheese appy. Again, all of you that know me, cheeses is my personal savior! Love them! They have their own version of mac n cheese and its great! three of four types of cheese served piping hot and bubbly!
The food is comfort food with a twist. Some great salads and fresh fish, even meatloaf.
It was a bit of a task to park - as capitol hill is capitol hill and Broadway is Broadway.
It seems there is something for everyone there. We will definitely be back to try something different!
Deluxe stinks. NO really....it actually smells. Immediately when you walk in through the front door a wave of bleach, ammonia, and fried grease hits you.
The fries are good, burgers are alright, salads decent. Nothing I have ever eaten here that I actually had cravings for has stayed on the menu.
When my friends who are in love with this place want to meet at Deluxe, I think....'oh great...we are going to the smelly restaurant that has mediocre American food'.
If only the mixed drinks were consistently strong!!
Unfortunately I had high hopes for this place. The atmosphere is pretty cozy and comfy. I'd say about 2.5 stars. The food has disappointed both times. Service has been average. Let's say first time I went there was for brunch. Ordered the eggs benedict. Overall, I asked about the hollandaise sauce, the waitress said she wasn't a big fan of it in general so wouldn't judge the one they had here. I was curious if it was of the "instant" variety or homemade. She said it was made here. Unfortunately it wasn't that good, kind of runny and for some reason very spicy. It didn't bother me, but I could see how someone wouldn't expect a hot hollandaise sauce. Fortunately the waitress replaced my eggs benedict with an order of french toast, which was unfortunately disappointing.
I decided to give the Deluxe another go and returned to meet a few friends for their "famous" burgers. Overall, it was sub-par and I wasn't impressed with the Art's Looziana deluxe burger. It wasn't hot, the meat wasn't very juicy, was cooked well done, I would dare I say, prefer a Red Robin burger?
Maybe my expectations were a bit high for this place, but didn't strike my fancy. I could see how the atmosphere is inviting and there's a pool table and the staff was average.
We sat at the bar for some drinks before dinner one night. I was kinda hungry so we took a look at the menu for some snacks. Everything sounded so good but the bacon cheese fries sounded the best. Oh- and believe me friend, they were.
The service was fine but thats just dealing with the bartender. I would like to go back for an entire meal of food.
What I was again upset over was the crowd. This time loud and obnoxious....in my ear.
I like the Deluxe - especially for happy hour or meeting friends for drinks (which I do depressingly less often these days). I want to like it more, since it's a "institution" and has nice atmosphere, but there's nothing all that great about it.
Again, don't get me wrong. Never had bad service. Never had bad food. Drinks are always poured right. But I've never been wowed by anything here - and it's not that cheap (happy hour excepted - where the bargains are terrific).
Definitely a reliable "pub" like place if that's all you're looking for. Just don't expect any wow factor. Kind of like that girl you kept dating for some reason sophomore year in high school, and then after you broke up, you weren't really sad, but you couldn't bring yourself to say anything bad about her. That said, you did have some good times, right? Better than that other crazy beyotch who wouldn't stop calling. And this was pre-Facebook, so she was all over your locker, leaving notes, etc. Brr.
Speaking of high school - I just noticed this was my 69th review. Is it childish of me to laugh?
Best happy hours on Broadway.
My wife and I will aim to go to DeLuxe during the happy hours because we can get a good amount of their excellent appetizers for the price of one person. Their burgers are good, but not the best, yet the atmoshpere and the service make up for that.
Burgerama is also a great deal. If you are willnig to wait for 30 minutes, as it is packed, you can get two full burger meals for less than the price of one. Well worth it and highly recommended.
I liked the atmosphere of this place a lot. It has that old timey feel because it is old; one of the oldest things on the block I believe. Being a tourist I didn't know that until after I'd already been there. Very tasty food and drinks. Will definitely go back here with my buddy Jeffers the next time I'm in Seattle again.
