Kudos for Carrie for writing the first review of Del's Bar. I was thinking that no way would someone have beat me to it, but sure enough!
I hate to sound like Toby Keith here, but I love this bar. I really do. Its my definite must stop at while in "God's Country" (La Crosse, WI to the lay person). Whether you are having a bloody mary or just stopping in for a "Tall Strong Fucker" (long story, one of the bartenders will often ask you how you want your PINT mixer), you are in for a good time.
The layout (as mentioned previously by Carrie Dubb) isnt the most efficient (a big oval that takes up the majority of the bar space) and makes for cramped quarters often times. The bartenders in the oval are excellent. They make stiff drinks at cheap prices and add some pizazz while doing it.
I'm glad, I'll be coming back to LaX in October for my first Oktoberfest.
Go for the bloody's. They are phenomenal. The best bloody mary's I have had at any bar across this great nation. If you like spicy, be sure to specify. They are adorned with a slew of treats: pickle, brussel sprout, green olive, cube of pepper jack cheese, and a beer chaser of your choice. I don't like green olives, so I usually try to trade them for a brussel sprout.
Go for the music. Monday nights for Cheech's Open Jam are always enjoyable. The juke box has a great selection; bluegrass, classic rock, local music, etc.
This is a good bar to people watch since the bar is a large oval. Also watching the bartenders dance. :) The bartender's are great. Chubba, of the Smoking Bandits, makes the best bloody mary's.
If you're feeling saucy, Wednesday's at Del's are "Softcore Wednesday's" so if you want to watch porn with a bar full of randos...this is the place to go.
Overall, I love this bar. It was the first bar that I was a regular at when I turned 21, has the best bloody's, and I will miss it dearly when I leave La Crosse.
