The saganaki. I can't get over it. I really can't. Its slightly expensive well made Greek food that includes a great moussaka and fried calamari. Its a great place to go in the afternoons, the decor isn't much to shake a stick at. Plenty to view of the block.

I went and had dinner with my daughter and a friend this evening, a bit of personal history as it was the first restaurant her father took me on our first date in NYC some 24 years ago. The decor has not changed much which is amazing because it was not very interesting then and it is still pretty boring today. I had a craving for the chicken/lemon/egg soup but it was disappointing and did not live up to my memories. We shared a bunch of appetizer and that was good, I recommend the spinach pie, the tarama and the octopus, all delicious. The shish kebab were tender and tasty as well. Overall not a bad meal, the prices are reasonable for the area and the service was prompt and friendly but it was late on a Sunday night and we were the only table left. If you have a craving for Greek food in Tribeca, it is a very decent option ( might be the only one anyway!!!)

After reading the reviews here, I decided to try Delphi tonight.

I saw a sign in the front window thanking customers for 37 years of loyalty, signed by the owners, which is usually indicative of a restaurant's impending death.

Sure enough, I asked the waitress, a very kind, chatty sort, if the place was closing for good soon, and she said yes, that it had lost its lease and had to be out by Oct. 31. The landlord wanted to jack up the rent four times above what the owners had been paying, and they couldn't afford it.

Too bad, because the lentil soup (with a side of pita) and spanakopita I had for dinner were tasty and priced right ($15 was the tab). The indoor temperature was moderate, which was nice, given that some places keep their interiors frigid on fairly warm days like today. I sat in the enclosed sidewalk portion. Lighting was a little dim but not too bad to read by.

I asked the waitress where else one could go for Greek in the area, and she said, "Nowhere." She said there had been a place nearby, but it closed and its owner returned to Greece.

She said many of the restaurant's customers had been regulars since it opened in 1970, along with successive generations of their families.

So, too bad for me. I probably would have become a regular there, given my office's proximity.

Those of you who wanted one last meal there have till the end of the month.

I have a co-worker who is really nice and is moving on to bigger and better things in Atlanta, and the one perk of her leaving is I don't have to eat at Delphi anymore. It's a nice place to sit and eat lunch, but they've really started to get on my nerves.

The moussaka dinner is now $16 which is really outrageous since it's not even that great (I bitterly admit it's pretty good).  The salads are also good but too pricey for lunch.  The sandwiches are a decent price and are ok.  The Greek coffee, however, is below average, and the waiters often treat you like you're a moron who has never had Greek food before in your life...I don't find it charming.

Go to Astoria instead and have a decent meal at a decent price.

I prefer to go to Astoria for Greek cuisine as you find more authentic and cheaper eats there. However, there are some good dishes here that are worth the buck. Delphi isn't a bad place to grab a bite, but it's not jumping-off-the-charts amazing. It's good for a quick meal when you're in the Tribeca area.

I liked the spinach pie, but was not overly enthused with my gyro. It was a bit dry and the portion sizing was off. (Not enough meat, or tzatziki).

Just a normal run of the mill Greek  place in Tribeca. The location is good and pretty much makes it because it is in a cool area of town but it isn't great great, just good. I have had much better Greek food in Astoria and sometimes I get really disappointed with Greek food outside of Astoria because there's so much that can go wrong. This doesn't suck by any means, but it isn't awesome either.

I'd go again, it just would not be a regular joint for me.

I came to see what I'd written about Delphi to remind myself of the better times I'd eaten there after a disappointing evening, and found that I in fact had not reviewed it. If I'd written before the most recent time I dined at Delphi, I would have spoken about how delicious this over-priced food is. Yes, you can find cheaper Greek food if you come out to Astoria, but this is certainly fantastic and tasty. I loved their stuffed tomatoes, the little bits of Andrew's saganaki that I've tried, and so even though you're paying too  much and the service is pretty slow, you always felt like it's worth it because the food is so delicious.

Yup, there's a but. I went the other day and was so disappointed. The pitas they served were toasted and so hard and stale that I nearly chipped a tooth. I know that sounds like hyperbole, but I mean it literally, that I took a bite and thought, "Uh-oh, the bridge I've got, that may have fallen out, and I don't have a dentist yet. What am I going to do?" The falafel was terrible (you thought I was going to say it was 'awful', didn't you?). I know that I shouldn't expect a great falafel here, especially when it's not Greek, but still. Dry, dry, dry. Even eating it with the hummus and adding some hot sauce really couldn't make it all that much better.

I don't go here a lot as it's really expensive (which I know I've mentioned, but I'm cheap and talk about money too much), but it's been a favorite of mine & Andrew's and his friends anyway, so I'm sure I'll be back at some point and will now know to avoid the falafel. Because it's otherwise been great. So, go. Enjoy. Don't order the falafel. And don't expect a bargain.

This Tribeca neighborhood restaurant serves some of the best Greek food in Manhattan.  Now, don't get me wrong, the place to go for Greek is of course Astoria.  Everybody knows that.  But if you're downtown and eager to gulp down a delicious bowl of baked Saganaki, then this is your place.  The menu is relatively extensive and the prices aren't too, too ludicrous.  The downfall to this place is the wait staff.  The food doesn't take that long to come out or anything, but they aren't very attentive and when you need a fresh glass of cold, Greek Beer, they aren't really there for you.  But check it out, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
