Review Highlights
This is absolutely my go-to deliteria for all things lunch related when I decide to be lazy or gluttonous. It takes me a bit to wander over, which allows me to justify eating as much as I want of whatever I want here, which can be dangerous (read: food coma after lunch in the office is not well regarded).
I dig the Korean selection, especially the bibimbop, and the soba noodle soups are awesome, they go heavy on ingredients which is always good. If you like spicy, they can do spicy. Just let em know what you want and it is all yours! The salad bar selection is good, and I love that their mix your own salad is NOT based on price by ingredient! Instead, you pick small (3 ingredients) or large (7 ingredients) and pay accordingly, which means you don't accidentally end up with a $18 salad (it's been known to happen).
They also have quesadillas, soups, sandwiches and all the regular stuff, but when you have so many good options, it's hard to try em all. But you better believe I'm making an effort to do so.
Cheapest place so far I've been able to get lunch in Midtown: shrimp tempura udon nooble bowl with real vegatables and real meat, all for $6.50 (plus tax). Delicious!
And with its lowball calories its almost enough to make you forget that last night you stuffed your face with TWENTY FOUR hot wings and washed em down with a 32 oz Tecate.
This is one well-situated, centralized location for midtown esat lunchers. Most delis in the Midtown East neighborhood (around Grand Central)lack a good variety of options, but Delmonico definitely takes care of that dilemma with choices: Ramen (choice of meat/seafood/veggies toppings) for $6, Udon (w/ choice toppings) for $6.50, Korean Tofu Soups and Bibimbops (w/ choice of beef or chicken, brown/white rice) for $8, a salad bar ($7/lb), tossed salad station (large w/6 toppings for 7.45), sushi rolls, and hot/cold sandwiches. I frequently order the bibimbops as they offer a great bang for the buck loaded with veggies and meat.
Overall, prices are very reasonable for a midtown establishment located by Grand Central. It is also a good choice to grab something quick as there is never a long wait at the noodle stations, salad bar, or cash registers. Delmonico has a small sit down area opposite the registers, and they accept all forms of payment as well.
left, right, center - it's 360 degree food variety. you don't have to look outside for what you want for lunch. it's like a market but it's not. it's a deli, buffet but not all are created equal or delicious. just make sure that the food you pick is safe and clean. a lot of people come here for lunch and you don't know who touch what.
I walk in with my co-workers and the first person to greet us is the owner. I am pretty much floored by the selection. I go for the mac'n cheese, string beans and chicken piccata with capers. It was delicious and no non-sense for under $10.
The line goes really quick, and I was back at my desk ready for more work in a short amount of time.
Gourmet Food Market is a perfect description of this place, the variety and selection is astounding! We went with a group of about 20ppl. For lunch!
The service was excellent! The price was fair! The cashier line was quick and friendly!
I had the Salmon sushi nigiri and maki roll fantastic.
Quick service and pretty decent food. I've been here for their quesadilla and it was made fresh and within minutes. Recommended.
Working in midtown kinda sucks, and I haven't been able to find a ton of good lunch places.
Went here today for lunch and hit the cold salad bar. It was great. Still wish I could find something like the Whole Foods salad bar though.
Such a great variety. The owner is super nice, asking you if there is anything you need or if you are finding everything ok.
Salads are good, usual things where you just pick what you want. There is a good selection of seating if you don't feel like dealing with co-workers.
My fav are the customized Quesadia, where you can add any type of toppings or meat. Yah, that would do it for me.
So I had my first bibimbop there today. It was
a. cold and served as a salad, which I could handle.
b. Served with brown rice. Hurray!!!
c. Served with bulgogi (yay!) and roast beef.
Wait....ROAST BEEF????
Um....no. Ask for it with no roast beef. None at all. Eeew and oh no.

SO much better than anything near my place of business.
I used to have lunch here most days when I… Read more »
By far my favorite take-out lunch spot in the Grand Central area. It's cleaner and nicer than the other places nearby. The offerings are plentiful, too. They have a salad bar, a hot food bar (not that I've ever tried it), a Ramen station, an Udon station and a Bibimbap station, burritos and quesadillas, and pasta as well as the standard sandwich station.
My favorites are the the bbq beef bibimbap (but you can get it with chicken or roasted veggies, if beef isn't your thing) which they mix in front of you and you can advise them on how spicy you want it, and the hot roast beef sandwich on a roll (the roast beef is always hot and nice and pink -- never overcooked).
The owner always greets you at the door, there are plenty of cashiers so you never have to wait long, and the service is helpful and friendly.
Delmonico's is my favorite "typical" lunch spot near my office... aside from the fact that the food here is much better than the other deli's in midtown east area around 42nd St., the customer service is second to none.
Peter, the manager (owner?) is such a nice guy and he's always looking to create a better experience for his patrons. I've never been to another establishment for lunch where the guy in charge actually greets customers as they walk in. He's constantly monitoring all the stations to make sure everything runs smoothly. My co-workers and I have occasionally made some pretty odd requests and he always finds a way to fulfill them.
This is one of those gourmet food markets that has it all. Sandwiches (hot and cold), sushi, udon, ramen, bibimbop, salad bar, hot food bar, soups, tossed salad station, pasta station and a burrito/quesadilla station. The sandwiches always turn out great... wraps, burgers, hot turkey and pastrami... you name it, they've got it. There are also a handful of pre-made sandwiches -- which come with a free soda -- but I usually skip the sandwich/free soda combo and head for the pasta station or the salad station. PS... they do chopped salads here... Mmmmm...
Udon and ramen are top picks for my co-workers -- all made with fresh veggies and a protein of your choice. They'll even throw an egg into the ramen if you ask. It really gives ramen a new meaning... not just for college students anymore.
every station moves pretty quickly so you never have to wait in line for food... There are also a bunch of cashiers to make sure the line to pay moves really quick. AND they take credit cards. I'm usually in and out within 10 minutes, which I think is great considering I never buy anything that's pre-made.
I don't know what I'd do for lunch from Monday-Friday without Delmonico's...
one of my fav lunch spots. the customer service is excellent, the owner is always around during peak time greeting people and helping them find stuff, and the cashiers move you out quick.
they have great mac and cheese in their hot bar, a tasty ramen offering, and by far my favorite - an awesome burrito!!
On one of my budget eating days in NY, hippo and myself stroll into this fastpaced market. At first glance it's super chaotic and there are people everywhere, but as I wander to each food station, I notice that even without lines, there is order and mutual understanding in whose turn is next, and whose order just finished.
Order within chaos
I get myself a tuna melt, very very good, crunchy bread with the right thickness and texture. Hippo gets bimbimbop, also very good. While we're eating inside, the power drops and we're surrounded with darkness and 3 seconds of silence...
and then everything resumes as if normal without electricity.
The manager(I assume) barks out "our backup generators will come on shortly, but till then, cash only!"
Everyone is still ordering and paying. I was quite impressed.
+1 for NY, good job Delmonico
they have a sandwich place, a korean/japanese bar, and a greek bar, and maybe more....definitely grab something and head over to bryant park.
I had to go uptown for work and I didn't know where I was going to go for lunch. I ended up taking my chances and walked further east.
I passed this place and it looked really busy so I decided upon here.
I didn't feel like eating a boring sandwich and so I decided to just get something from the hot plate line.
They have so many selections and they all looked freshly prepared - not like other places where their hot plate line looks dirty, gross and picked at too much.
I wish they have this place where my office is.......
*sigh*
Um, hello.
Did I just find soon doo-boo jji-gae across the street from my office?
Open 24 hours.
At 1am I passed by and had an urge to go on a late night gourmet grocery shopping spree. Amazingly smokey mozzarella, bagel chips, rao's sauce, some beautiful artichokes, and a cherry coke zero. So many of my favorite things. All expensive, but I'll pay a premium at 1 in the a.m.
The guys working there were taking the wee hours of the night to give the steam tables and prep areas a great scrub down - so to all of you who go there for what looks like an expansive lunch/dinner menu - yay! No salmonella for you!
Great spot to pick up food before your 1:00 meeting. Fresh and tasty salad bar. I also love the ramen and tofu soups, perfect for those cold days.
Plus, I've almost never waited in line, and when I have, it was for less than a minute.
This is probably my favorite place to get lunch within a four block radius of my office. They have a wide selection of foods--you can get your typical deli sandwich (hot or cold) but they also have udon noodles, bi bim bap, salad bar, soup and more!
Prices are also pretty reasonable for midtown.
One thing I also like is that they always have enough cashiers up front so you're never waiting too long to get out of there.
A great place for a quick midtown lunch.
Today for lunch at Delmonico's, I just had perhaps the best quesadilla i've ever had in my entire life. They have a quesadilla menu, but you can also pick whatever you want to put in it. I had cheddar, all sorts of veggies, some grilled onions, rice, black beans and a little bit of chipotle sauce. I think it was the grilled carmelized onions and the chipotle sauce that really made my quesadilla excellent. I gobbled it up. YUMMY!
So... I usually get the veggie udon and have had much difficulty deviating from it until today. The veggie udon is just ok, but they put in these fun little mountain mushrooms that make it worthwhile.
They also have a salad bar, ramen, soon-du-bu, rolls, a bodega with a lot of stuff, and right in front of the cashier all sorts of chocolate goodies like chocolate covered grahams and pretzels, etc. Its a deli of a million things... a good lunch option if you work nearby. Something for everyone. Plenty of seating in the front and back. But I wouldn't go out of my way to eat lunch here - just if you are in the area.
Best place to eat by my work and the awesome added bonus is that I don't have to leave the building in this crap weather. I stick to the salad station 99% of the time and for the $8 price tag it is the cheapest salad with meat included you can get anywhere around here. They have great selection of toppings and the sitting area in the back is nice and warm.
I would like to say that I am a regular at Delmonico. The first time I ever ventured in was to buy a cup of coffee. I loved the coffee and came again, and again every morning. Everyone who works there is friendly and even the owner, Peter is always chatting with customers (when he's not helping out with the coffee station or cleaning up this or that counter). Behind the deli section are two of my favorite guys. Hector always makes a great sandwich (just the way I like it). From the subs, to the bagels and even their food/drink selection... it's great!
bbq beef is good. Korean style salad with brown rice.
I go here for breakfast most mornings. Love the coffee. The manager is always on top of things. He makes sure everyone and everything is taken care of. There is seating up front or in back. The selection is really nice from grocery items you wouldn't find in regular supermarkets to hot food stations ie pizza station, sushi station. I love this place. The hot/cold buffet in back is awesome! when the cashiers are not arguing w/ each other it's good. Usually the Russian lady up front who always has beef w/ the other cashiers. I laugh because peter the manager comes out brings her in the back then they come back out and things are good again. Hilarious. A lilttle bit expensive though. Awesome place. Me likey. Oh they have a bakery yipee , just check it out!
I tried to use the catering for my office, the food was edible at best, but after showing up over 30 minutes late (and the meeting being half-way over) I was not very happy about the service at all. And, the food did not compensate for the tardiness.
