This place is AMAZING.
I found this place on yelp, and I had wanted to try it. On the way there my friend had called me and told me that there was no one there, so that made me a little apprehensive about eating there.
Everything that was ordered was shared so everyone got a taste of everything. I ordered the lamb but I really wish that I had ordered the duck. The only reason why I had not initially was because every time previously that I ate duck it was just really gamie and left me unsatisfied.
Bottom line: you should get the duck -

North Hills, CA
As an avid cook, I am often, quite critical of restaurants. I pay a lot of attention to service, and atmosphere--quality and execution of recipes, presentation, and source of produce and meat. At one point, I had aspiration of opening a restaurant in future, so I began reviewing restaurants in a critical and fully surrounded way as a sort learning experience. Though the dream has fallen somewhat lower on my list of priorities, I do continue to view restaurants in this manner. So bear this in mind as you read my review. It will be a much more... captious than the average yelper.
I was surprised when I saw their menu online, that a place like this would be located in that area of Vista. Their dinner menu sounds quite impressive. Their lunch menu was not as extensive, however much more moderately priced. I had some really great feedback about the restaurant from some friends of mine. So I figured I'd give it a try.
When my friend and I arrived, I though the place was closed because all the lights were off. Once they came on, we received no formal greeting. The cooks and I'm assuming family members scrambled around and the waitress/hostess took a bite of something and meandered up to us.
The waitress only had one arm (one was in a sling) so, it made it kinda difficult for her to place the table. I had their beet salad and pork sandwich. The beets were good, but the salad was a little overly dressed which made the lettuce a bit soggy. However, the presentation was well executed. I liked the walnuts surrounding. I liked the fact that they put apples in the slaw for the pork sandwich, but overall the slaw was somewhat bland. I would've liked to have seen some ground mustard, cider vinegar and/or brown sugar in it to liven up the meat. The bun was very airy which, unfortunately made it soak through really easily. The sweet potato fries were probably my favorite part. Though I am not sure if they are made in house, they were good nonetheless. I think a course sea salt or kosher would have been better on them than iodized.
I know I sound very critical, but it is part of the purpose in review. Their lunch menu, as I mentioned previously, was very moderately priced. Another meal in comparing price, around this general area, would more than likely lack overall. While I might be hesitant to sample their dinner menu, due to it's steeper price and my previous experience. I will go as far to assume that it's quality is probably much higher. The atmosphere, I could see, at night being quite cozy with dim, candlelight and a crowd. The unfortunate thing for this this restaurant is that unless word of mouth does them justice, the location is really what will be their downfall.
Overall though, I can see this restaurant as having a great future potential. -

I want to get more people to eat and support this place! It has a downtown vibe, great staff, and a high quality ingredient list.
Call in advance for your table. Try the crab cakes (3 cakes served at a great temp, crispy, yummy sauce, corn, and filling).
Try any of the entrees (we love most all of them.) and the Beet salad is so good! -

I came here with much anticipation for a great experience during lunch with my sister, we both just had just read many wonderful reviews for dellz but little did I know what was going to occur. We arrived as a host/server welcomes us in and offers us any seating in the restaurant, they weren't very busy, maybe three other parties. I have to agree with everyone, the piano here is awkward, especially since the restaurant is so small, seems out of place, I'd rather just add another table. We were given drinks and menus:
Kaluah Pork Lumpia Rollz - Served with sweet and sour sauce, I read this was a definite popular item, I thought this was good, but not great, without the sweet and sour sauce the lumpia roll itself lacked a little flavor, but I wish they had been more imaginative with a different sauce. Came out crisps and hot.
Chipotle Maple Baby Back Ribz - Slow braised pork ribs glazed with a chipotle hoisin, served with french fries. This was good in the beginning but after a few bites, the sauce became overwhelming and too sweet, although this is slow braised, this was a bit more tough than expected.
Grilled Thai Herb Chicken Club - Grilled marinated chicken breast with bacon strips, English cucumber, curried aioli and mango chutney on a Kaiser roll with sweet potato fries. To be honest, I couldn't taste the bacon at all, the curry never came through in the aioli, nor did I taste any mango inside the sandwich, more of a sweet glaze that had come. The chicken was dry, and the kaiser roll was overly toasted that as I bit into the bread, it just fell apart. I think a brioche or similar roll would've paired better.
Overall experience, was not good at all. While sharing everything, the braised ribs became overwhelmingly sweet so I tried to look for our waitress for some hot sauce, she was nowhere in sight as I kept browsing around looking for someone, I kid you not, she was MIA during our whole experience, the only time I ever saw her was to drop off our appetizer, and our entree's. Becoming parched after eating a dry kaiser roll I couldn't find her for a water refill either until finally the bill was dropped off. I believe towards the end when I finally saw her in sight, she was in the kitchen picking at items and eating it with her fingers. My sister and I really wanted to like this place but after the experience here, I'll take my business elsewhere. -

Vista, CA
Very hidden, but great place to have fine dining in a friendly atmosphere. The restaurant is well decorated, and with candlelight and live music, the ambiance is great for a romantic dining experience.
The dishes are artistically prepared and full of flavor. The beer and wine menu is limited, but well selected. The bathrooms are clean and the entire facility is pleasantly modern and sophisticated. -

Vista, CA
This place is so obscure...my wife and I accidentally stumbled upon it. At first I thought the sign said "Deli", like maybe it was a sandwich shop or something. It's quietly tucked away at the end of the Albertson's shopping center at the corner of East Vista Way and Foothill.
Man were we mistaken! We walked into the place and were blown away. Nothing short of upscale elegance! The waiting area as you enter is equipped with two very comfortable looking couches (we were seated right away, so didn't get to try them out...lol). They use cloth tablecloths and cloth napkins. There is a black lacquered baby grand piano that comes equipped with a piano player, and the music is complimenting not overbearing. With an open kitchen it's hard not to take in the excitement going on as the meals are prepared. Attire can be casual (I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts) or you can get dressed up in a shirt with a tie or a jacket. I don't think anybody would even care really.
The decor adds to the overall ambiance and elegance. The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. Service was very good needless to say.
We had the flat bread for an appetizer which was very good. Sort-of a cross between Brochette and a veggie pizza. My wife had the Pasta Primavera, and I had the Thai Herb Chicken. Both dishes were awesome. The presentation was just like something off of any of the new cooking shows. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for desert so we'll just have to go back.
Truly a gem in the rough. Not exactly what you would expect to find in Vista...but we'll take it...lol. This is one place you really have to experience.Listed in: Upscale Dining

Vista, CA
Vista is not known for its cuisine other than the plethora of Mexican fast food joints, each serving their respective high schools. Generally speaking, I would have to travel to Encinitas, Del Mar, downtown San Diego, Hillcrest, Escondido... but Vista? I had to try this out.
When Dell'z first opened up, not only did I think it was a deli (when you're driving on E. Vista Way, "del" is the fist part of the sign you really see"), but a deli that wasn't going to do well. Once I discovered that Dell'z was a chef-operated California fusion restaurant, I was worried. The fact that a fine dining establishment being opened in an Albertson's shopping center in a town where cuisine does not reign supreme, I hoped the best for them. The locale is tucked away in the most hidden corner of the shopping center, mainly visible only to the residents of the Foothill area as they approach Vista Way from their hamlets in the forest.
A friend and I went just out of spontaneity, nourishing my goal to expand my horizons as a culinary adventurer and his need to spend money on payday. We enter the door way and I am utterly surprised. I was not expecting the dark, rich colors, contemporary furniture, jazz playing in the background, grand piano, open kitchen... wonderful ambience. That being said, the piano is pretty awkward, just because it's so big relative to the size of the dining area, but hey, I'd rather have some piano than not.
The server seats us on the couch next to the open kitchen and we pore over our menu, taking time to pick what we really want. Warm, airy house baked rolls are served with soft butter, but it was alright. The bread tasted like any other roll, the butter really made it what it was.
I decide on the "Maple Leaf Duck Breast" and my buddy goes with the "Diver Sea Scallopz." There is a notice that all meats take at least 20 minutes to prepare, knowing that I ordered the house special "Yangarra" wine. Dark, chocolatey, slightly sweet, compounded with a nice tannin content and not overpowered by alcohol, the flavor is definitely there; absolutely delicious.
My medium done duck breast came in three nice sized cutlets (all in a line, waiting to be eaten) with the fat left on top and a shimmering dark maple glaze, each resting on an individual pillow of sweet potato puree and a light drizzle of some sort of balsamic vinegar reduction painted on the plate to carry it all. The dark, earthy colors of the duck, sweet potato and balsamic reduction were contrasted with a light garnish of nice deep green arugula leaves and smattering of yellow string beans. Points for presentation. The linearity of the dish let me know where to start and where I was going to finish.
The duck was done just right, at a balanced medium. The texture was of "melt in your mouth quality." The gamey flavor was accented by the sweet and slightly salty maple glaze, combined with the peppery arugula and gingery sweet potato puree; the flavor was outstanding. The balsamic reduction seemed to be kind of an after thought, but it worked really well with the rest of the dish (I later recall on the restaurant's website that it was actually a strawberry balsamic gastrique). The sweet potato puree can be enjoyed on its own as well. The ginger wasn't overpowering and it allowed the sweetness of the potato to come through. This dish is definitely a prime example of California-Asian fusion cuisine.
My buddy seemed to really enjoy his sea scallop and the bed of mushroom risotto swimming in a pool of soy bacon broth smelled great, but I noticed he was leaving the sautéed baby bok choy. I don't blame him. They were a little bland and didn't do much for the dish other than being a contrasting (chewy) texture.
Dell'z California Grill receives 4 stars in this review. Dell'z has friendly service, comfortable ambiance and great food; the seasonal menu will definitely keep me coming back. I especially love the open kitchen, the whole restaurant can see the chefs cooking away in a fury of flame and knives. I'll give this place a 5-star review in the future if the when the food becomes outstanding (I'm sure it will). Don't get me wrong, it's definitely a contender in the budding N. County culinary scene, but I'm not quite wowed yet. Keep it up!
All this being said, I would definitely come back. It's a nice date spot if you want to stay locally in North County. If you live far out, I would make the drive and check out what this place has to offer; try the yangarra!

Items ordered:
1. Salad (candied walnut and pear): a little heavy on dressing but yummy
2. The famous Lumpia: flavorful and the meat was tender
3. Seafood Paella: Very fresh tasting, and they put a nice twist on it
4. Ribeye: Yummy! huge portion though, comes w/ delicious mashed potatoes, glazed onion, carrots, and some type of veggie (I think it was bok choy)
5. 2 glasses of wine: zin and riesling (decent)
The bread was fresh tasting and warm!
Overall, the restaurant seems a little out of place because it seems like it belongs on the coast with ocean view instead of inland. But...it was very tasty. Would we go everyday, no (unless we don't care about cost). Would we go again? Quite possibly.
Only thing is we wished there was a piano player--apparently it's only a few days a week--Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Also, we would have loved to meet the chef (s)! It's always a nice touch when they come talk to you.
P.S. Total cost (including tip): 80 -

Good place to grab a bite. Dell is a really nice guy and is usually found in the kitchen.
The only reason I don't give them raving 5 stars is because I like my food spiced up and when you ask for a blackened chicken breast on your Ceasar Salad, etc.. It's not exactly what I would expect.
If Dell's can just start learning how to spice up dishes when customers ask, they would deserve 5 stars IMHO. -

Oceanside, CA
Definitely odd location for this type of restaurant but the food and atmosphere made up for it. I had the lumpia which was exceptional, especially since I grew up eating fresh homemade lumpia. The grilled portebello sandwich was probably the most flavorful with the right combination of balsamic, peppers and goat cheese. Creme brulee was awesome too!
The atmosphere inside had a good vibe but does not reflect well being on the corner of a grocery plaza.
The lunch menu was a little pricey but was able to justify due to the quality of the food. Plan on going again since there dinner menu had a lot more to offer. -

Ive been to Dell'z two times. I first noticed it while taking my car to the jiffy lube for oil change. i had an hour to kill so i walked around the albertson's center. At first glance i thought it said "Deli" instead of "dell'z"... my bad! :)
I walked into the empty restaurant and asked for a menu, the items on the menu was what convinced me to go back and give it a try... they had a grilled Caesar salad, a calamari sandwich, a turkey wrap with sweet potato fries... i was specially thrilled about the sweet potato fries btw. Also for dinner, they served duck and fillet, i was amazed by the sophistication of the menu because this is vista, and i have yet to find a restaurant within a 15 mile radius that serves such food. Don't get me wrong, i love Vista and we do Mexican fast food like no one else, and we have our trusty Italian restaurant Marcos for those pasta craving nights (they re closed for lunch). But Vista does not do Fusion until dell'z
I went back about a week later and had a wonderful lunch with a couple of friends. we all loved the our dishes and the service was great. my second experience was on Valentines day for lunch...i was hoping the place would be buzzing, but we were the only table there. I'm a sucker for family owned restaurants, partly because our family is in the same business. i really want them to do well so they would stick around and continue to add alittle class to Vista cuisine.
so why not a perfect 5?
Although the decor is nice, the ambiance not so nice. Both times Ive been, there were children present (i think part of the family) that was playing around. Also on my second visit, an older lady served us and she barely spoke English... we wanted a glass of hefeweizen and she did not understand the order. I had to open up the beer list to show her what i wanted... not soo cool for such a nice restaurant!
Overall i think u get alot of quality for the value AND i will have to go back and try the Khalua Pork Lumpia that everyone is raving about -

When Dell'z first opened I was sure that it wouldn't last a year. I mean Vista is not know for restaurants like this. Especially a fusion restaurant. But I'm so happy that people are coming more and more to Dell'z. Every time I go it's more packed than the last.
The food is very unique. The menu is small but that's to be expected from a place like this. The prices are something that Vista is not used to, but are on par for restaurants in it's class. The deserts are so good, and are even kept in the fusion theme. The kitchen is open which provides some nice entertainment while you're waiting for your food. They also have super cheep corkage. I'm not sure the exact price but it's under $20. Maybe even under $10.
It's really nice inside. My only complaint would be the piano player. I could do without that. It's too loud for the size of the place. Other than that this is a wonderful place to have dinner and I hope it spawns more restaurants of this type and class in Vista. -

It seem like there is nothing but mexican food and chains in my hometown, so when I found out about this place I was pleasantly surprised. I'm glad to find this type of food 5 min from my house rather than driving down to carlsbad or encinitas.
I had the grilled romaine ceasar, which was perfect for 2 people just wanting something to start off. I also ordered the lumpia, which is pretty good, but I've definitely had better( considering a couple of my best friends are filipino). My gf ordered the paella had a nice tangy kick to it, which is something I enjoy and is not normal in paella. I indulged myself with the bacon wrapped filet mignon. It was fantastic! Perfectly cooked and tender. The mashed potatoes and veggies were seasoned well, and complemented the steak.
I would like to try this place for lunch, because they had a thai grilled chicken dish on the dinner menu, which looks really good.... but the waitress said they serve the same thing as a sandwich which is better.
This would be a 5, but the lumpia was a lil subpar.Listed in: SD county

Wow, what a gem of a restaurant! Quite obscure and I never would've found it without having seen Michele's review here on Yelp. First of all, I love the decor of this place. It's small, yet very open and spacious. The kitchen is almost fully visible from the dining area, and there are windows all along one side of the restaurant that just have a view of Foothill Dr. You almost feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, and yet you're tucked right on the end of a busy shopping plaza. I loved the decor, which is created of rich greens, and browns with red as an accent. The front waiting area looks more like a living room than anything.
We came here on a Wednesday night, so we practically had the place to ourselves, save for a few other tables of the older crowd. Thus, our server was prompt and attentive.
I had a glass of Riesling, the NY strip steak, and shared the flatbread appetizer with my bf. He got the lemon-crusted halibut. We both enjoyed the flatbread, which was served with chevere, an olive tapenade, and hummus. The flatbread by itself was actually pretty damn good. Our meals were great, too. My steak was huge! My entree was $18 and his was $21, which is quite reasonable for the caliber of the cuisine that they serve.
So if you think there aren't any top quality, unique places to dine in Vista, think again. There's at least one, and it's right next to an Albertsons! -

I've driven past this place countless times when going to Albertson's and never thought much of it. We were given a coupon for this place so we decided to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised at the interior. Looked like a restaurant that would typically be found in the Gaslamp district. The ambiance was great. The food was pretty good, but I felt that it was over priced considering it is located in a grocery store strip mall...
I would go there again because I loved the scallop dish that I ordered. -

My husband heard about this new awesome fusion place to go eat. And you know there aren't a lot of these places in Vista. We were pretty excited about it.
The decor was nice and clean and the services was welcoming and friendly. The menu was pretty simple and straight to the point. We order a few things off the menu the waitress recommend to us.
Unfortunately to our disappointment the food was just OK. It seem dry and lacked a lot of favorite. We really wanted to fall in love with this place.
But we plan on coming back and trying something different on the menu. -

killer deal on http://restaurant.com wow. Good food, had the ribeye special, would certainly get that again. $25 for a huge 14oz ribeye. Wish it had more vegetables however, the sides were tiny. But perfectly cooked rib eye. If they have it on special, get it!

Wow! I was so happy from the moment I walked in the door. The open kitchen concept makes the room warm and cozy and the restaurant smells so good it is distracting! I could have sat all by myself and enjoyed the smell of the food... The decor is fabulous. You really forget you just stepped in from a strip mall. Our service was great, too.
I tried the pork chops - really good. Moist, done just right, and the crust covering the top was very tasty. And we also shared the salmon. This is the dish I would order over and over. It ruined every meal I had afterwards for a few days because nothing could compare. The salmon is on top of cheesy good potatoes and cauliflower, seasoned with lemon, and sits under an amazingly refreshing lemony relish (made with what, I don't know, but it was good!) and cooked spinach. I rarely eat everything on my plate, but this dish was gone.
The location is a little strange as other reviewers have mentioned, but I don't think people will care. It's the best place to eat in Vista. My parents drive from Oceanside quite often because they love it so much. Just think of it this way - there's tons of parking and you can stop and get milk from Albertsons on your way home.
Highly recommended! -

A definite hidden gem in Vista!
Cute decor. Family run. Upscale type place - real tablecloth, cloth napkins, etc- but lunch prices were great (average around $7-$8 entree). Food was different and delicious- everything looked good. I had the tuna melt with sweet potato fries which was delicious. PLEASE go support this local place!!
By the way, the hours posted here on Yelp are definitely wrong, I was there for lunch in December 2010 and they were definitely open! -

This has to be the most unique fusion restaurant I've been to. Not your typical japanese/american fusion, this hidden gem has stuff you've never heard or dared to dream of. Khalua Pork Lumpia???!!! I've never had a filet mignon cooked to perfection like this, and their scallops were awesome! I'm a big scallop fan and I order them whenever I can, I've also had scallops all over the world and the ones here are my favorite. The young chefs here add a unique and daring touch, leaving you with an unforgettable culinary experience.

I still like this place. I was disappointed to see the price of the delicious scallops had increased from $18 to $23 since my last visit. That's a big jump and will mean I won't be choosing this place as often as in the past. They haven't had paella on our last two visits, much to my husband's chagrin. He tried the ribeye this time and thought it was only so-so.

Surprisingly good.
Came here with my family and we had the Lumpia as an appetizer - they were good and cooked just right. The hot bread was also very good.
I ordered the Paella and had a bite of the Thai Herb chicken (the coconut rice was outstanding) and Pan Seared Scallops (also cooked perfectly).
The Bread Pudding and Creme Brulee were both good and had fresh berries on top.
A nice little gem overall. The grand piano and music was a nice touch. They have an amazing and varied menu.
The service was excellent and this restaurant hits on all cylinders as far as I'm concerned. -

I sooo wanted to LOVE this place! I've been trying to get friends to try it out with me for a couple of months now. I so wanted a great new fab place to get friends to go to in Vista! Yesterday a friend came from San Diego to try it for lunch. It is gorgeous inside. I love the paint and the way it's decorated. Love the way the kitchen is open.
The menu seemed very reasonably priced and appeared to have some great things to chose from. I got excited when I saw they had paired Chicken, brie cheese, apples & bacon in a wrap! My friend was all about the Chipotle maple baby back ribs. My wrap was served with a salad and unfortunately the Walnut vinaigrette overpowered the flavor of all the great things in my wrap! The apples were cut in the smallest lil cubes I've ever seen in my life! The dressing on the salad was also a vinaigrette. I would have preferred having it all on the side so I could control the amount. My friends baby backs were falling off the bone (which is how I like them.... unfortunately, not how she likes them) I tasted hers and thought it was good but didn't see the kick of any chipotle. Needless to say she was disappointed because she was expecting a kick. Her fries were great appeared to be fresh cut. We did decide to get the Creme brulee for dessert and it was really good. The service was good and employees seemed friendly. I'd go again if someone invited me but, I won't be making a special trip to go back. -

Went here on advice from Yelp. Delightful ambiance and I couldn't believe this restaurant is in Vista. We were seated by a window and had wonderful, friendly service. Unfortunately, they were out of the fabled lumpia, but I had the salad and then the chicken breast and my cousin had the clams and then the spareribs. All were well-seasoned, extremely flavorful, and delicious. Prices were reasonable and all-in-all a great find. I'd recommend all to try this restaurant, and I will definitely be going back there.

I really hope this restaurant makes it through these tough times. It was pretty empty for lunch, but perhaps they do a great dinner business. They have a beautiful baby grand piano with a lounge area and entertainment from 6-9pm Wed thru Sat. We had their lunch special which consists of three courses. The mixed green salad was wonderful and very attractively presented. The second course is a half grilled tuna with french fries. The fries are cooked to perfection and very fresh cut potatoes (not the frozen kind). The tuna had chopped peppers and was tastefully seasoned. The final course was dessert, cranberry bread pudding with a scoop of ice cream. Yum. Plenty of food to keep you happy and going strong until dinner, yet not overly filling. The ambiance of the dinning room is comfortable and attractive. I loved the shape and style of the chairs. Linen table clothes and napkins are always appreciated in my book. I can't wait to go back and try their dinner and hear the music.

I picked this place for my birthday dinner with my family and was worried if it would be good and everyone would like it and boy did it come through! Everyone raved about it afterwards. Great food, nice atmosphere, good service!! I had the lamb and it was FABULOUS!! I had told my mom I would share some with her and it was so good I had a hard time giving someover. She had the salmon which was very good. My Dad and Stepmom had the ribs and said they were probably one of the best ribs they ever had. And the fries are great!! I never am one to leave reviews but I just had to come on and let everyone know how good this was cause they need to stick around we need some restaurants like this in Vista.I give them an A+!! I will definitely be back I' think I'll try them for lunch next time.

I went to dellz at lunch hour, there was no one eating there...that was my first clue that something was wrong.......I ordered the tuna melt, the menu said it was on sourdough bread, I got the sandwich, it was on wheat bread it was tasteless and bland. The menu made it sound as if it was gourmet and the price was $9. The sandwich was not worth the price for what it was. I also ordered an ice tea which was $2 and it was in a small glass. This restaurant is not worth the prices they charge, it is no wonder they had no business. I doubt they will stay open for very long
