Dellaria is a great concept, This place is about the people.

Victoria, is incredible! She is great with color, and thick hair! She listens and works fast. Amazing highlights, great haircuts. I saw her for 3 years while I lived in Brookline. It is a deal and looks just as great (if not better) than some of the newbury salons.

I also recently saw Za Za after a debacle haircut in Maine (never get your hair cut in Maine) and she fixed it. Well as much as it could be fixed. In all seriousness though she made it go from terrible, to fine. Also did great highlights. Considering what I walked in with she did an amazing job.

They also can get you in very quickly if you are in a bind and that is worth something as well. Really 4.5 stars! Love this place, this location in particular!

Victoria is still at this location (thank goodness!) and she is still talented, sweet, and fabulous, but my experience at the salon itself was not good at all.

I checked in last Sunday. Or tried to, I should say. The receptionist (poor thing) was alone with 5 people trying to get at her at once to check in/check out, and she was on the phone. People trying to pay post-haircut were trying to cut in front of people waiting in line to check in, ladies had product questions, and it was a hot mess.

I was checked in by a big burly dude who checked me in and then told me to hang up my coat and tell my stylist that I'm here. Um, I'm sorry-isn't that YOUR job? The service was horrible. I couldn't find Victoria right away (her station moved since my last visit), and I sat there for a good 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. I almost left without getting my hair done I was getting so frustrated.

I was in an epically cranky mood, but I left with a cute new 'do, and I will *sigh*...continue to go back, because I love Victoria. I just hate this location.

This review is really of Betsy, one of the stylists at Dellaria - Coolidge Corner, not so much of the salon as a whole.

I've had nearly five haircuts now with Betsy and after each visit, I walk out feeling happy about my cut and generally in a great mood because of our fun conversation. She is great about asking you what YOU want hairwise, while also adding her suggestions/input. I also really really appreciate the fact she does not spend my whole time in the chair selling product. I hate when stylists do that as I just feel like they are playing salesmen. She recommends products when necessary, but always as a gentle suggestion. I've never felt pressured. She is also great at making you feel comfortable in regard to your own haircare habits, etc. I feel like upscale salons can sometimes make you feel like a turd in a punch bowl, as the saying goes, because of your lack of fancy haircare habits and products. I have never felt an ounce of snobbery from her, but I am not sure how they other stylists would be.

A few words on the salon in general. Overall it is a nice place, though a little chaotic with all of the stylists and chairs. If you want a zen experience, this is not the place for you. Downstairs there is Skincare by Stavroula which does great waxing.

Ask for Leslie. She is fantastic! I booked her for my wedding day and and my hair was flawless. She worked with me and gave me exactly what I wanted and even gave me lots of helpful hints. I received lots of comments about how great my curls looked at the wedding and I have only Leslie to thank for that!

Leslie was very friendly and easy to work with, and punctual! Very important to have punctuality on our wedding day! I live in Lowell, MA but I plan on making Leslie my hairdresser for a long time to come.

Ask for Leslie!

After a horrible cut on Newbury, I came to Dellaria for a fix.  unfortunately my version of a fix was to go to a cute pixie, and one stylists view was to salvage the bob that remained on my head.  this ended up looking like ringo starr... very bad.  but the following day i called and explained my unhappiness and the salon bent over backwards to make sure that i was happy.  and i am.  that day i got a great pixie from claude, one of their master stylists.  he whipped it up in 20 minutes, a much needed relief having already spent 4 hours in salons in the prior 2 days.  no charge and claude even refused my tip.  that's classy.

Edit: Bumped up to two stars since I did go back and Celeste attempted to fix my hair. She brought in hair from the top and sides to "soften" the 90 degree angles I had going on at the sides of my face, and it did help a bit. She was very nice and understanding about my being so upset, and even offered to cut my hair at a discount the next time I come in. I told her I just appreciated her trying to fix my hair.

Ultimately, it will grow back in a few weeks. There just isn't too much you can do to fix hair that isn't there. I doubt I will go back and see Celeste, since she is a master stylist at Dellaria that means she is in a high price range. The whole reason I went to Dellaria a few months ago was to try and spend less on a haircut. If I am going to spend more than $45, I'll just go back to Safar. Plus, there are plenty of other salons in the area with better reputations.

.................................................. ......................

I can't even look in the mirror without crying right now.

I have had bangs since September and have gotten five or six bang trims since then. It's simple, just cut it straight across and angle the sides like the person before. Well, that's until William got a hold a hold of them and quite literally cut them straight across. Just like my mother did when I was 11, although I think she actually did a better job of cutting them evenly. When he was done cutting and brushing the cut hair out of my face I opened my eyes to see my bangs cut in a straight line from temple to temple. When I told him I didn't like it he said, that he didn't cut into the hairline and that it would grow out eventually. And then walked away.

I went to Dellaria a few years ago on the recommendation of a friend. The person she referred me to was no longer there, so I asked for someone in the "same price bracket." The person I had was gone the next time I went back as well, so again I asked for the same price range and ended up with Leslie.

Cut to about 4 years later and I'm still seeing her. Leslie is awesome! She is so creative (she has a different hairstyle every time I go in) - I basically just put my head in her hands and am always impressed with what she comes up with. The newest style she gave me - a chin-length bob of sorts - has gotten me so many compliments! She's reasonably priced (about $40 for wash, cut & blow-dry), which is way less than many of my friends pay for fancy Newbury salons. I love her work so much, I am having her do my hair for my wedding and trusting her taste in the other hairdresser she's bringing with her.

And whether it's Leslie or someone else washing my hair, it's always heaven! It's usually one of the best head massages I've had!

The other people who work here are usually very polite and friendly as well, but I don't interact with them too much.

This location is really conveniently located - about 2 walking minutes from the Coolidge Corner T stop with 2 parking lots nearby. And it's always very clean (I can always spot at least one person sweeping the cut hair) and they use fun products.

This review is mainly for Leslie because she is the only stylist I have seen there. I have been going to her for about 3 years and she is awesome. She listens to what I want and always does a great cut. When I decided to cut all my hair off she was really helpful in picking a length and a style.
The wash, cut and blow-dry is usually around $45 and is really reasonable. She does a great job and I highly recommend her.

The 5 stars is for Celeste. She's an awesome stylist. I've been to a dozen+ different hair salons in the Boston area. Everything from Newbury Street to the 'burbs and have never found anyone that I love. I've been going to Celeste for a few years now and she's terrific; takes the time to listen but also has her own great ideas. She's not cheap, but she'd cost a lot more if she was in one of those trendy Newbury salons.

I'd give the salon itself 3 stars. The front desk people are hit and miss. Some are great, but others have a blase attitude.

I've been to other Dellaria salons and stylists before and have had good and bad experiences. If you're just a walk in or calling randomly, ask for a more experienced stylist. It's more expensive, but otherwise you risk someone who just started cutting hair and isn't very good.

I went to get a color touch-up.

The colorist spilled dark color on me, laughed about it, went to get a paper towel to clean it off (you know, because that's how one cleans color stains on clothes), rubbed it in more, laughed some more, and then made a snide comment about how the shirt was ugly anyway.

The color didn't even come out all that great.

Yuck.

For years I've been working my way up the hair hierarchy after taking a few extra years to escape my mother and her Wahl home haircut kit. From Mom I went to Supercuts (Earrghh!) and from there to Dellaria.

Dellaria was the first time I ever got my hairwashed by someone else.  How could all my lady-friends have kept this profound joy from me for so long? Damn women!

At the time I probably would have given this place five stars because having my hair washed was the best thing ever for the still-virgin teenage Peter. I kept going back because it was cheap and they washed my hair (Boy, I sound a little weird don't I?). But they always gave me terrible jocky haircuts.

I am not a jock. I'm femmy although I prefer to tell people "I don't conform to traditional gender schema" so I sound cooler than I am. But walking around with flippy wrists and a haircut that made me look like the chubby gay brother of Guile from Street Fighter was not a good thing. At all.

Alas, the novelty of having my hair washed wore off and you made it clear you wouldn't change, Dellaria. Even with my easy-to-follow instructions on how not to make me look like a total ass. And so I moved on.

Last week I saw a guy leaving with the same crappy generic 'dude cut' you always gave me and so I know nothing has changed. But you get an extra star for putting me on the path to bigger and better salon-related things.

I like Dellaria itself, but this is more a review of Za Za, one of the Dellaria stylists.  She is the first stylist I've had who actually seemed to really get what I was looking for with my cut, color, and style, and actually execute it!  I have been trying to achieve a certain haircolor for about a year, and no stylist had previously mixed the color correctly; she did!  And she got the cut perfect, and used the perfect amount of product, and didn't leave my hair greasy or dry..  It is hard to find a stylist who really gives you what you want!  I will go to her religiously from now on!

To preface this review: the salon itself has no atmosphere, and the staff can be friendly or rude, its hit or miss. ..
The only reason that I went here multiple times was to get my hair cut and colored by Jenny (a cousin of a friend). She is awesome. BUT-she moved to the Dellaria in Kenmore then she left there too...I don't know where she is working right now but I will post when I find out!

I looked up a bunch of hair salons on Yelp after I was dissatisfied with a cut from Supercuts. I stopped by Jeanne Pierre & Co. today and they were apparently closed. I decided to go to Coolidge Corner and look for Micheal's which I had read was good. Couldn't find Micheal's, but I stumbled upon Dellaria which I had also read about. I asked about prices and they gave me the option of 35 dollars (newer stylist) or 48 dollars. I chose 35 because I am a broke college student. I got a stylist named Kristin. She was very nice and very thorough with asking me what I wanted done to my hair. Pleasant chit chat but nothing forced. She got my bangs EXACTLY how I wanted them and maybe even better than I pictured them. My cut looks and feels great and I plan on returning to her when I need my next cut. Awesome experience. :)

I guess I was lucky to grow up with a Mom that was also a licensed cosmetologist. I never had to pay to have my hair cut or colored. Once I moved away from home I had to find a place to get my hair done. I had an unsuccessful hair cut on Boylston street and decided to look a little closer to my apartment.

On a whim I went into Dellaria and got paired up with Leslie. Three years later and no one else touches my hair. Leslie does a wonderful job cutting and coloring my hair. I get compliments multiple times each week on my great hair. I have referred a handful of friends to Leslie and they are loyal clients now too.

I haven't interacted much with the rest of the staff there. The people who work the desk can be a bit flustered and inattentive sometimes. I always see cute new hair styles from other clients in the salon.

I would definitely recommend this place and most definitely Leslie if you're in need of a new cut.

I started seeing Celeste here about 4 years ago and now I won't get my hair done by anyone else!
I think I may have started a bit of a cult too, as now my sister and her friend drive all the way from Maine to have their hair done by her. And starting with the next visit even my Mom is joining us!
Once you have your hair done by her you'll understand.
She takes the time to understand your hair and the styles that will and won't work with it.  I'm to the point where I just let her do whatever she wants because I know I'll leave there with it looking great!

This review is for Teddy Edwards only.

I found Teddy through a walk-in at Dellaria in Brookline.  I was fed up with my long hair and wanted it short.  Teddy did the most amazing job on my hair!  He took his time, cut it from the underside of the hair (which maximizes the time I get out of my cut) and did exactly what I asked.  My time in his chair was very relaxing as well; he so concentrates on his client's cut that he won't speak to you while he is cutting (which is a plus for me because I hate the mindless chitchat that I get with most hairstylists).  I have continued to go to Teddy. I have loved my hair like never before and received more compliments because of Teddy.

What do you need?  A trim a cut a hack a die?  They do a solid straight up job here.  one of the things that I really like about this location is that they have a real mix of staff so you can get someone that works for you.  Also they have very reasonable prices.  They are not cheap per se but if you want to look presentable you can't expect to spend much less.  I am consistently surprised by how easy it is to get an appointment.  I have been lazy a couple of times and have even gotten away with just walking in.  Must give major props for a wash before the cut.  I am a guy so I was never used to that sort of treatment and it is an added bonus.
The straight-hair salon.  cuts dyes
What's good-easy to get into.  good price for a good cut.
The slap-most of the stylists throw a bit of their style into the cut (this is good and bad)

After first moving to Boston, I wanted to get a haircut at a place with a good location and would have some fun with my hair (I always have trouble coming up with anything unique to do with my hair).  I made an appointment for after work and headed over.

The lady was really nice.  She did a good job of cutting my hair.  The only problem would have been that I asked her to cut my bangs above my eyebrow (they were probably about 2 inches below my eyebrow and I'd been pushing them back), but she only trimmed them.  I should have said something, but I figured I'd just deal with it.  Other than that, my hair turned out great.

In recent years, I have had the hardest time finding a salon that I can trust and where I can get the appointments I want, when I want. And Dellaria in Coolidge is it!

I highly recommend Heather and Shelly. I've seen them both and both are great cut and color professionals. I do 1-process so that's what my experience has entailed but I'm sure they do great highlights, etc. as well.

I can always get the appointment times and dates I want and I've had no trouble rescheduling when need be. Very accommodating. And I never feel pressured into things like drastic haircuts (when I don't want one)...they don't make me feel boring b/c I want to get my hair trimmed or cleaned up when I come in. I don't ever feel scared to sit in their chairs.

And this is such a small thing but they have not only a great selection of products (ones they actually use on you are available for purchase in the front and they don't force them on you -- HUGE plus!)...but they also have a GREAT magazine selection. Might seem small and inconsequential but honestly, there's nothing more frustrating when you sit under the dryer and are subjected to a 6 month old Glamour.

So YAY for current magazines and friendly, talented hairdressers.
Extra tip: Parking is 2-hour meters on street so bring your quarters or take the T, the salon is a short walk from the Green Line. I've never had trouble finding a spot though and they'll make change for you if you need money for the meter.

I got my best haircut ever here. Victoria asked a lot of questions about what I was looking for in a cut, and I wound up with exactly what I wanted. I've always been a little leary of paying $35 for a haircut, but this was completely worth it. Everyone was friendly and I'll definitely be coming back.

i've had some mixed experiences here:

first time was terrible. male stylist, barely spoke three words to me, didn't listen to what i wanted and basically just dumped blond hair dye on my head. awful.

against my better judgment (and largely due to laziness), i went back. leslie did a much better job but it was still nothing to write home about. she helped me make the jump to bangs, which i love, but i found out recently she did a real hack job last time and left my length (in the back, not the bangs) horribly uneven.

i'm moving so it's a moot point, but i wouldn't go back anyway.

one star for speed: i called in at 2:30 and was able to come in at 3. a bonus for someone like me who doesn't plan haircuts and always finds a random place at the last minute (keep in mind my previous haircut was done by a woman in chinatown who spoke very little english, so maybe my standards are low!).

two stars for stylist: ive (apparently you say it eee-vay... who knows) was quick, courteous, and not too chatty (i HATE getting quizzed about my life by a stylist i may never see again). BUT she did the crucial steps of consulting with me before and after, and providing good suggestions on how to wear the cut when i don't want to blow-dry (which will pretty much be all the time).

one star for product: ive used bed head small talk on me. it smelled delish and made my hair feel thicker. definitely buying some soon.

not five stars because: the setup is kind of confusing--you wait for your stylist on couches in the middle of the salon, between all the stylist chairs. i also had to wait around a while for an assistant to wash my hair; apparently she didn't know her turn was up. also, it was significantly pricier than i expected. the website says $35 for a cut and style, but it ended up being $50. i did get some layers, and she blew it out nicely, so maybe that's why... but i was still a little disgruntled that it cost more than expected. a good cut nevertheless.

Last haircut I got, I left looking like I didn't get a haircut. I'm use to walking out bouncy and shiny. This stylist (don't remember her name but she had medium blond hair and bangs.) fried my hair with the iron, it looked dull and dried. Prior to that i had two other different stylist, which were good but I could never get the same stylist. I will not come back here. I need consistency and personable care.

I am not really a 'salon type of guy' I am more of a 'shave my head once a year and let it grow until next year type of guy'.  however I now have a 'real' job and they tell me I need to 'look professional'.  I tried local barber shops and the cheap chains like supercuts but I was never satisfied.  finally I needed to try a salon and the thought of it scared me.  I now have gone to this location twice and was very satisfied both times.  I was not intimidated by the scene inside at all.  Everyone was very nice and helpful and it was also fast.  26 bucks is only 10 more then what you would pay at supercuts and well worth it.  I recommend this place to all guys who need to look good but do not really like the idea of going to a salon or paying too much.

i've been frequenting this salon for over 6 years now. my first experiences there were merely twice-weekly blowouts when i broke my arm senior of college and couldn't wash my own hair.

about a year later, i decided to start getting highlights but was VERY nervous. i stopped in while passing by one afternoon and was able to speak to one of their master colorists on the spot who walked me through what she would do.

5 years later, she is the only one who i will let touch my hair. 'nuff said.

their prices are are little steep for a haircut and blow dry though ($70?). maybe i'm cheap, but thats jsut too much for someone to cut my hair straight across the bottom and blow dry it.

Omg, this place is so freakin' expensive. Word to the wise: verify before you even sit down in the chair how much the hair cut will cost. The first time I came in I got a really nice cut (no blow dry) for $35 that I was quite pleased with. However, the next time I came in the price had jumped to $42. OUCH. And this is for just a very simple cut, no blow dry, no extras. With the tip it was $50. I was less satisfied with this second cut. The stylist was rushed and some of the ends were uneven. If anyone can recommend a better, cheaper salon, please message me!

But I had two hair dressers while I frequented Dellaria for over 4 years while living in the area and they were both fantastic. The owner was always around and very friendly. I would highly recommend this location (if it's still under the same management). I never felt rushed or had to wait long (even if I walked in without an appointment). They were committed to making sure I was happy with the cut, color, etc. Very good customer service.

Worst haircut I have ever gotten.

I went to Dellaria on Saturday afternoon for a foil and cut.  I had never been there before, but my roommates said it was decent.  I walked in with a gorgeous hair cut (from a Toni and Guy salon in Tucson) and asked the stylist to cut my hair but keep the same style.  He refused.

The color was ok, but the haircut was terrible! He did it in about five minutes. First of all, the layers are chunky and uneven. Second, he cut it as if I part my hair in the middle, when I had told him that I part it to the left.  This leaves it smooth on one side and chunky on the other.  The cut is so awful for my hair that I cannot get the layers to lie flat no matter how much I straighten them.  Even my guy friends, who get $10 haircuts and have absolutely no style sense, say it looks terrible!

The worst part? $100 for the foil and $70 for the cut.

I thought about going back and asking them to fix it, but now I am terrified to let anyone there touch my hair.  I would never, ever, ever go back.

I needed a last minute cut and highlight before leaving for a trip and went to Dellaria, where I saw Aldo, a master stylist. I have dark brown/black hair and had medium brown highlights, which had grown out. I told Aldo I wanted the same highlight color to cover my roots. Instead, Aldo used bleach in my hair and gave me ridiculous, blonde highlights. I looked like a backup-dancer in a bad Bollywood video. I didn't even think people used bleach-based color anymore! He re-colored it two more times to get something near the right shade, but by the end my scalp was burning. I was there for 2.5 hrs. The cut was fine but he clearly doesn't know much about coloring. He also used crappy products and didn't offer me a discount after the whole mess. I will never go back there.

I have a feeling, by the other reviews on this one, that Dellaria is the hair salon for guys who don't like hair salons.  I don't remember exactly why I started going to Dellaria.  I've never enjoyed going to get my hair cut, no specific reason why, just always been a chore for me.  But they do right by you at Dellaria -- clean ya up and make y'all spiffy.  I recommed asking for Sam.  He spilts his time between here and the Downtown Crossing one.

my mother's hair grows like english ivy on the side of a house, it's thick and long and does exactly as it pleases at all times. she has perpetual problems finding a hair salon because she doesn't know what she wants it to look like and no one has been able to make it look nice without dumping products in and blow drying, neither of which she will do on her own ("it wants to be free, so i let it be free"). anyway.  so mama comes to town with approximately 8 lbs of hair swinging around her face and we quickly decide a haircut is in order.  Dellaria is open on sundays, so they win!

we walked in at 11 and had an appointment at 12.  by 1245 my mom had been liberated of the angry shihtzu that had been clinging to her head and her stylist Clyde specifically cut it so that she would barely have to run a comb through it for it to fall in line.  she didn't even need it blow dried.  it's super short but still feminine and it made her look taller.  a 5 ft irish lady needs all the help she can get.

solid salon: as i waited i watched other patrons leaving with equally happy expressions.

I've been going to Dellaria Salons over the last 3-4 years.  For what reason, I'm not sure.  Most likely because the locaiton is convenient, and it's easy to get an appt. (hmmm....I wonder why that is?)  On more than one occasion I've had a negative experience (at this location, as well as one of their CT locations).  They have a very "in and out" mentality.  On my last visit, I had to wait about 20 minutes past when my appointment was (which I didn't even have a problem with), but then my stylist spent mearly 10 minutes with my cut- and it wasn't just a trim, I had layers put in, and took a good 3 inches off my hair.  When she "finished" she said okay, you're all set- my hair was dripping wet.  I thought about saying something, like "dry my friggin hair!", but decided against it since I really didn't want to give this place anymore money.  I should have learned by now that this is not the place to get any type of personal attention.  It's a chain salon, and I would no longer recommend it.  It's a pain in the ass that you can only tip up to $10 on your credit or debit card as well.  See ya Dellaria!

I have gone here as a walk-in several times.  If you go to one of the senior or even slightly experienced stylists you will likely have a great experience, if you go to a new stylist (which is frequent with walk-ins) the experience has not been great for me.

When I first moved to Boston I had the hardest time finding a salon that would give me a decent haircut.  But then my roommate told me she went to Leslie at Dellaria and told her nothing except that she wanted her hair to look "less fifties housewife, more rock star," and she came home with a fabulous haircut!  So I gave it a shot, and now Leslie's got a customer for life, or as long as I live in Boston, whichever comes first.  She makes suggestions about what she thinks will look good, but she'll never bully you into a haircut you don't want.  Plus if you describe the style you want, SHE'LL ACTUALLY DO IT.  Amazing!  It's not too expensive and they give you a discount if you refer someone else, and there's something about the sun coming in through the skylight that makes your hair look extra shiny and pretty.  Now I actually look forward to getting my ears lowered instead of worrying that I'm going to end up with a horrible chop job.
