Without fail, whenever drinking in Murray Hill, an unexplainable driving force takes me over. As I ride the 6 train home, the power of cheese compels me past my transfer at Union Square and into Soho... but this is one hool up I don't regret in the morning. I've now eaten every vegetarian option on the menu - and a not so vegetarian option one night after a lot of vodka and apparently losing my ability to read.

THE CLASSIC (american, cheddar) - Truly classic! I don't understand all the hooting and howling by people comparing product from Mac and Cheese establishments to that of their mother's... because first off, my mom never made me non-kraft (clearly her and I need to have The Talk) and second, I've never tried "your mom's" and so I don't put much credence in your affection for it since it probably only tastes good to you because it was made with love. When I'm dining out I don't expect love, I expect perfectly toothsome noodles, creamy cheesiness that isn't leaching oil, a perfect amount of salt, and a hot hot crusty crust - if these are the things that matter to you too, then you will like the Classic!

MARGARITA MAC (tomatoes, mozzarella, parmigiano, basil, oregano) -Eh, tastes nothing like a Margarita pizza, whoever says so is a loon. The stringy mozzarella element is nice, but below is just oily elbows without the wonderful creaminess that mac and cheese is all about. The tomatoes are juicy but bland and lack the sweet zip of a true margarita flavor profile.

FOUR CHEESE (queso blanco, fontina, swiss, gouda) - Too big for its britches! Each cheese fights for your attention like a bratty child.

MAC 'SHROOM (roasted mushrooms, thyme, chives, fontina, cheddar, truffled essence) More oily then creamy with a overwhelming mushroom odor but not as much mellow truffle essence. If you are like crazy for 'shrooms then it's worth a try, but I got bored eating it halfway though.

PRIMAVERA (peas, mushrooms, zucchini, yellow squash, spinach, tomato, scallions, garlic, cheddar) - Winner! As much as it sounds like a pasta salad, it is a hot gooey mess nestling perfectly cooked vegetables which makes each bite a stirring discovery of various flavors and textures.

MAC QUACK (duck confit, fontina, caramelized onion, thyme, chives, scallions) - Yes, it tasted good, but I was very very drunk. In my defense the menu that night specifically omitted the duck from the description http://www.yelp.com/bi...

The thought of this place is more alluring than the actual food.

My friends and I decided to order from this place and we were all super duper excited about eating gourmet mac & cheese.

Y is a mac & cheese fanatic, so she's always searching high and low for the best mac & cheese.

Y and I decided to order the LOBSTA' Mac & Cheese, since the thought of Lobster just made us want to drool.
Eh, we both felt it was a bit too dry.  Too much butter and not enough cheese or flavour. Y said this place reminds her of Cafeteria's Mac & Cheese and that's when I informed her it's because they also own MACBAR.
I, also don't care for Cafeteria's mac & cheese, either.
I don't know, perhaps it was all the hype and the good reviews? I didn't do a mac & cheese dance nor did I scream out yes, yes, yes...it was just eh.  The lobster meat (not enough little chunks) itself didn't even save this dish.

T got the Cheeseburger - decent, but his life didn't change after taking a bite.

S got the Shroom - okay not anything special he said.

I am a total sucker for packaging and this place put a cute twist to the old time comfort food.

Small gets you a foiled take out tin neatly nestled in their logo paper sleeve.

Medium & Large gets you a take out tin that's hidden inside a GIANT YELLOW ELBOW that's made out of plastic.

Their custom-made forks & knives fits together nicely - it's almost like an advanced version of the wooden take out chopstick that you have to pull two things apart.

Yes, it's a wonderful idea but is it really eco-friendly.

I commend this place for having a station that separates recyclables from trash, but really what's the point if they're contributing more waste than needed?

I, also noticed they sell packaged brownies and cookies - I passed on all the sweets since I performed a touch me test.  They all felt really hard and I like my cookies to be soft and chewy!

Would I come back?
Eh, possibly (I doubt it, unless one of my other friends wants to try it!) but I wouldn't come back here as giddy as I did.

So when I read about this place on UD, I decided I had to check it out! :D Right after my spinning class (I know....) I went to meet my gf there. What a cute little land of yellow! It made me smile!! :)

Located right next to Delicatessen, its basically a walk-in take out joint. There is some seating but don't come in big groups. Everything here is so cute - the menu, the decor, the packaging. This place is all about the packaging and YELLOW!

My gf ordered the chipotle and I had shrooms! Both were yummy. Medium gets you the cute yellow elbow macaroni shaped lunchbox. Small comes in a little square paper takeout box. Small is good for a meal in my opinion. I got a medium to save some for lunch tomorrow.

Oh it was so good. Not your kraft kinda mac and cheese. It was baked to perfection and yummy condiments to add extra kick to your mac & cheese. I LOVE IT!! I'll be back! And extra yippee for being close to work :D

I've always said that if I had to eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would be mac & cheese.  I love it the most. More than chocolate, more than bacon (!!!!), and maybe even more than bourbon, but in my fantasy world I get one dish and one beverage, so in that case, mac & cheese and bourbon.

Obviously, then, I  ran to MacBar the second it opened.  It's a tiny little take-out joint swathed entirely in school bus yellow, which may be to help keep traffic moving...my eyes hurt. But I'm not really concerned with my eyes right now, because my mouth is doing a dance of joy. It's munching on the mushroom mac, full of fancy 'shrooms and tasty cheese, with a truffle oil kick for good measure.

The prices are OK--not a super deal, but not outrageous, considering how rich the food is.  There are all kinds of creative versions, too, from a stroganoff to a Ruben to a margherita,  plus 2 kinds of cheese-only.

If you're planning on coming here at all, I'd move quickly--I can see the lines getting very long, and the city's collective waistline getting substantially wider. Thank god swimsuit season's over!

Mac Bar is delicious! Unlike S'mack, there is minimal seating here. Your mac is excessively packaged like an expensive box of chocolates but once you break through the cheese and down a mouthful without burning yourself, you'll realize how good it is. The lobster mac we ordered actually had reasonable amounts lobster tail chunks mixed in which is a big plus.

The problem with Macbar is that it is hopping on the mac and cheese train a couple years too late. Smac already does this cheaper and better. I ordered a four cheese, and it was more expensive than smac, blander, and cold in the center. The service was slow, and inefficient.

I will say that the decor is cute, as is the packaging, but until they make their prices cheaper and the food better I won't be coming back.  A huuge disappointment.

I did not like the Mac Bar at all. The only cool thing about it is the packaging and the actual store. The appearance drags you in... but the food is the thing that makes someone want to go back to a place. The food did not make me want to go back. The mac n cheese that I had tasted like the foil that it was cooked in. It was over cooked. And it wasn't anything like my moms mac n cheese.

The concept is extremely unique and cute. The interior, menu and staff match the concept well, where they fall through is on food. Its not that it was bad, it just wasnt great mac and cheese. I tried 4 varieties, primavera, hamburger, original and chipotle. The chipotle one being the best. I dont know, mac and cheese should be amazing, always, its cheese, butter and pasta, what could go wrong? Especially since its their specialty, I expected more.

Mac and Cheese - the ultimate comfort food.  I tried it out for Saturday lunch.  I thought we might have trouble getting a seat since there is only room to seat 10 people but there was no trouble at all.

Walking in there is a electronic menu posted.  Half the menu is static so you can actually have an opportunity to read the options and descriptions.  The other half displays for 5 seconds and then switches to an animated logo for MacBar.  So it may take some time to actually read through the menu while you wait 30 seconds to view that menu 5 seconds at a time.  Hope they change that though - it's really annoying,

We ordered a small order of the Mac with Lobster and another with Mushroom.  We loved the mushroom dish as there was a truffle essence incorporated here... and quite generously.  Along with the fontina cheese and adequate usage of mushroom, it was a great dish.  My only gripe is that when we reached the center of the dish, it was cold.  Which makes me believe that it was premade and heated up.

I'm a sucker for anything seafood but I didn't think the lobster dish was as strong or worth the premium price.  I did appreciate that there were a few chunk of lobster meat in the dish but the mac and cheese flavor did not complement very well.  Perhaps it was due to the higher expectations after tasting the truffled mac and cheese from the mushroom dish.  It was good enough to finish every last bite but I would probably move onto other menu items in the future.

The medium and large sized dishes come with a take home plastic yellow macaroni dish if you wish to incorporate into your home decor.

Wonderful! I'm a huge mac and cheese fan so I had to check out Macbar as soon as it opened. Margarita pizza mac and cheese was absolutely DELICIOUS. I highly recommend checking this place out, especially if you are smac fan. Worth the price. I will definitely go back and try some of the other flavors. Beware -- this place is a tiny takeout joint, so if you want seating go next door to Delicatessen. All and all a great experience!!

Went to MacBar. I was kind of taken aback by the crazy amounts of mac and cheese. I always expected just macaroni and cheese. Nothing crazy just macaroni and cheese. I was wrong. This mac and cheese is gourmet. With 12 different flavors, i personally tried the lobster. I like trying new things so i splurged on the lobster large. With bourbon!!! and lobster. Who couldn't try that. I liked it. Too much.

Wow! Went here tonight and so many flavors of Mac & Cheese, i gain weight just thinking about it. The "shroom" flavor was so delicious if you're a fan of mushrooms. I've sampledthem all and they're all pretty damn good! So good that I keep thinking about the leftovers in my fridge right now.

if you like mac and cheese even a little bit, and really, who doesn't? this destination is a must try. I was skeptical to try all the done up flavors, as I am a pretty simple, plain mac and cheese does it for me.. but my mind changed when I saw someone else eating the margarita pizza one.. It did not disappoint. In fact, it was nothing short of delish. i will def go back and try some of the others..

Yum Mac-n-Cheese!  Accidently found this place the other week and had to try it - for a "snack" in between lunch and dinner.  My husband and I split the medium sized Carbonara and it was amazing!  Plenty to share and it came in a cute "elbow" noodle shaped container! The dish was definitely crunchy and golden on top and oozing in the middle!  Tried my friends 'Shroom mac and it was also excellent.  I thought the prices were reasonable - not sure why everyone else thinks not.  Both of the pastas my group ordered to piping hot too.  Anyway, I hope to be back!

I read about this place and have been dying to go cause I love Mac and cheese and was curious to see how it compared to S'mac. I got to stop by yesterday and opted for the Shroom mac whcih has mushrooms and fontina. OMG! Delicous! Such a home-made! In my opinion it was better then S'mac. It only has a few seats and they are tiny so it's not the best place to eat in but I can't wait to go back and try the other flavors.

Since I live in the neighborhood, I've been waiting for MacBar to open and I went right away.  I ordered a medium mushroom mac n cheese and took it to go.  When I got home with my huge plastic yellow elbow macaroni container, I was perplexed on what to do with it when I was done.  I enjoyed the mac n cheese but I might have enjoyed it more if I wasn't so disturbed by the wasteful packing.  I wonder if they will allow us to bring it back for recycling.  I will definitely go back  but I won't order anything but a small.
