If you like seafood, get the LOBSTA ROLL. It is the best sandwich I have ever had! It's all warm and toasted, with the cheese melting over the lobster meat.
Even though the place was completely packed and the wait can be very long during lunch hour, it was absolutely worth it. I can't say that about many places!
Deli & Bread Connection was so good we ate there three times while we were in Kauai.
The first time we went they were out of the Lobsta Roll so we had a warm Tuna salad sandwich and it was awesome. I've never had one warm, but it worked.
The second and third time we had a Lobsta Roll and it was everything it was cracked up to be, and more. I'd go back tomorrow for this.
The Crimp (crab and shrimp) sandwich is very good if you want a cold sandwich on the beach.
Great prices, service is a bit slow, but they make them by hand. In a cool shopping center if you need anything nicer while you are there.

Best sandwiches ever..hands down! Have a try...you will dream about this place later if it doesn't get to you immediately. The bread is baked just right - softly melts in your mouth but holds the sandwich together strongly. People call their orders in for their bread ahead of time. My mom, who lives in Oahu, orders her bread frozen so she can bring it back with her.
I tend to eat the Chicken Salad sandwich (with sprouts, tomato, provolone, honey mustard) or the Roast Beef (with lettuce, cheddar, tomato and onions). Their chicken salad is a different one than I've tasted elsewhere - it isn't sweet , no weird stuff like raisins or nuts in it, and not soggy. It's really ono (yummy)!
I grew up in Kauai and would eat here all the time - not realizing what a treasure it was until I left. I've tried sandwich places all around the USA but Deli & Bread stays at the top of my list. Ask any local for the best sandwich place and they will say the same. Year after year I go back and their sandwiches remain the same. LOVE that! I hope they never close! With all the shops around them constantly going out of business ...it's a scary thought. The waitstaff is always nice. The store itself has gone from being overstocked with items to sell to having nothing on their shelves - just focusing on the food. They could use a better waiting area for those taking out their food, and a more efficient use of their space for tables since the crowd is the same. Better be prepared to stand in line during lunch time. Kukui Grove might look empty - but everyone will be waiting in line at Deli & Bread.
Amazing Wild Rice & Chicken bread bowl!!! Definitely worth every penny! Service is so so, but food is delicious and fresh.
The Lobsta Roll is so good. It's warm and toasty and much bigger than I thought it would be. You do have to wait a for a bit. There was no line when we ordered and I think it took at least 20 minutes for our 2 sandwiches to be ready. Well worth the wait though.
Once again...... i found myself sucked into bread and deli..... Follow your nose!!! it always knows!!! their lobsta roll is the s**t!!! plain and simple. walk in order one and a drink. sit yer butt down and wait. then wait a little more then eat half. Hmmm.... maybe i will save the other half for later.....HELL NO.... and eat the other half.
good stuff.

yummy sandwiches. The smell of fresh baked bread draws you in and says "eeeeeat meeeee.....".… Read more »
Stopped here before leaving the island. The sandwiches were quite good.
I had the Clam Chowder and Lobster Roll Sandwich (decided to get my Boston on). The Clam Chowder was decent, but not as good as good as what you would find in Boston. The Lobster Roll was not quite what I was expecting. Instead of a cold sandwich, it was hot with melted cheese and mushrooms. It had a nice amount of lobster in it which made it delicious!
Other people in my group had a variety of sandwiches of which everybody seemed to like. Definitely worth the stop, especially for the price (most sandwiches are below $7 and are a good size).

mmm.. definitely a good meal, and the cheapest we had on our kauai trip... i had the special (i forget the name, but it had a salmon pattie and their lobster salad), and my husband and the "crimp" (crab and shrimp).
minus one star for the long wait and the smallish portion for the price - no chips or sides included. BUT, again, yummy sandwiches, and we'd definitely go back.
This place can get pretty damn busy, so if you're down to eat sandwiches and if it's lunch time, it's best to call ahead of time and place an order or you'll be waiting for your sandwich for a good 20 minutes.
Not much of a fan for the "Lobsta roll" cause the"Classic Club" will always be my favorite. Slices of deli meat, bacon, and I don't like sweet pickles at all BUT the sweet pickles makes this sandwich DELISH! i can't believe i typed that.
like Alton Brown, this place has some GOOD EATS.
another local favorite and locally owned! They are the bomb! They have the best soup and sandwiches in town. Bread is homemade and freshly baked daily besides sundays. I love everything in there. Sandwiches are priced from $5-$8- but everything they use is oh so fresh and ono! Nothign sand bagged or pre made. Sometimes the wait gets hectic because they're so busy. Place your order, go shopping, and get your food and eat. I love food, quality food- this place is one of my favorites. You can either build yur own sandwich or go with one of their classics.
Sandwiches are awesome! I always get the tuna melt. I'm a sucker for tuna melts. mmmm...tuna melt. And I always accompany my melt with a clam chowder. mmmm...clam chowder.
I think they've got some damn good "new england" clam chowder. especially considering we're so far from the east coast.
Yum, the sandwiches here are really great. The bread is a bit lacking on this island but otherwise great taste, big portions, and cheap by kauai standards. Reuben, Cheese steak, and Lobsta roll all very good. The Clam Chowder is tasty as well.
The sandwiches at Deli & Bread Connection are amazing! I don't know if it warrants the fifth start, but definitely made me a fan. We grab a few sandwiches, a mini combo (ham, salami, two different cheeses and the works) for me and a salami on sourdough for the bf. I'm not a seafood fan, otherwise I would have ordered the "Lobsta" sandwich, plus, we were going to take them to go and store them in the cooler for our hike...probably wouldn't have kept well.
The mini combo and the salami on sourdough, however, kept very well. I LOVED IT, and I could be exaggerating a bit cause it was after a 1 mile hike (recall I'm a city girl, I don't hike) and was starving, but I thoroughly enjoyed every last bite. We hiked halfway-ish and found a nice little landing to look over and set up our little picnic. The view was spectacular, our sandwiches divine, I mean perfect amount of every ingredient and kept neat the entire time, and an overall great experience with my boyfriend.
Yeah, maybe I was exaggerating a bit, but seriously, it was a mean sandwich! Would go again and recommended it to my bf's mom.

Hubby and I ordered the BLT, Lobsta Roll, Clam Chowder and Grilled cheese with tomatoes for the baby. The BLT was good except they add ketchup on the sandwich which I think we'll omit next time. It tasted homemade which I like. The Lobsta Roll was super good but hubby and I agreed we can only eat half a sandwich each. It is super fresh, not fishy, and they don't put too much mayo which I love. It is still pretty rich with the cheese and all. The Clam Chowder was better than expected. I took one star off b/c the next day we order the same grilled cheese with 2 different cheeses and the tomatoes and they gave us a sandwich with no tomatoes and only 1 kinda cheese. They charged us extra and didn't give us the goods.
It won't stop me from going there again but I will double check and make sure my sandwich is correct before leaving.

i always go for their sandwichs!
i used to like their soup but the clam chowder i had the other day was too salty and felt like it was out of the can. but other than that their classic club is best ever!
OUTSTANDING!!!! My dad drug me here and I was like "Dude, seriously your taking me to a sandwich shop when we are in Kauai?" The sandwiches were excellent! My wife got the lobsta roll and I got a plain ole tuna melt. We traded halfs and both were really good. Bread is fresh and prices wasn't top bad considering where you are.
If you think all sandwiches are alike then you have not had one from this place. Their sandwiches are all made with fresh baked bread that's light buttery & flakey and out of this world! The lobsta' roll with real lobster meat, mushrooms, onions & melted cheese on a killer light & flaky roll is to die for! Great lunch spot and reasonable pricing.
If you are on your way to Macy's you can't get past this place... the waft of fresh baked bread will pull you in every time. I have never seen this place empty or even slow.... Be prepared to stand in line, but the employees here are efficient and friendly. Every sandwich is made to your specifications so you will get exactly what kind of sandwich you want on any kind of bread they make. I always get my sandwiches toasted, I think it adds to the delectable flavor of the bread. The sandwiches are big so come hungry... leave in love... with the sandwiches anyway! Worth the trip to the mall just to stop here!!
(Buy some bread to take home too... mmmmm...)

My favorites, in order:
1. BLT on Sourdough
2. Crimp (crab and shrimp)
3. Soup bowl (clam chowder)
When I moved to Oahu, their sandwiches were one of the things I missed the most for a long time. I always make it a point to stop here when I'm on the island and have even had people bring these sandwiches back for me when they went over to visit.

When walking past this place, I can't resist the smell of the bread...one of my favorite smells ever! All of the sandwiches I've had here are excellent...made-to-order, fresh and delicious. I've tried a couple of the soups, and thought they were also very good...excellent comfort food. This place is always packed at lunchtime, so the wait may be longer than you'd like it to be, but the I think the food has always been worth the wait. The breads are made there daily, and every variety I've tried has been tasty. I really like the vegetarian sandwich...mmm!
we stopped here first - right off the plane. It was hard to find since someone mentioned it was in a business park. It's actually behind Macy's in the "mall". We were really hungry by the time we found it. It was REALLY GOOD !! My husband didnt like anything else the rest of our trip because it couldnt compare to the crimp sandwich he had at Deli & Bread. The people were really nice & lots of locals were eating here too. We made sure to stop before our red-eye flight for one last crimp, a cheese steak and some dessert. we also grabbed the last loaf of sourdough to bring home.......so good!

What a way to start a day! It's a little unassuming since it's located in the mall, but once you get past that, this is a great sandwich place. I ordered the lobsta roll. I was worried it would have too much mayo, but it didn't. Instead, it was served on a very crunchy thin roll, and there was plenty of lobster, no disappointment here. Also, some onions and fresh mushrooms, and melted cheese. It was so delish! I'm so glad I went, and I'm hoping to go again. This would be a great place to pick up a sandwich, and picnic at the beach!

On the 5th day we were here, we decided to go to the beach and relax. Beforehand, we thought we pick up some sandwiches nearby. I took heed of the yelper's advise and came here. There is a large lunch crowd that comes here. Sandwiches here are about $6. I got the TOPSS sandwich, (turkey, olives, peppers, spouts, swiss) Oh man, it was good. Brings back childhood memories. Portions were a bit small but it definitely had a homemade taste to it.

We came across this place because the author of "Kauai Revealed" said it was Ono (bless that little tourist's guide!) After spending crap loads of money at the Grand Hyatt (which is a wonderful place but very hard on the pocket book when you are working class) we decided to venture out and try to find a more affordable meal. On our first visit, I got the tuna salad sandwich on wheat and the hubby got the Lobsta roll. My tuna sandwich was fine, nothing exceptional but was a solid "good." The hubby loved is lobsta sandwich so much that I asked for a bite. Yup, that was a good sandwich! On our next visit, I decided to get the Lobsta roll too. Oh me oh my, they put together real lobster with onions, mushrooms and cheese, stuff it into a roll and then grill it ... pure heaven for your mouth!!!! Uh yah, that Lobsta roll deserves a "So damn good, makes you wanna smack yo' mama" review! I think it's about $11 so it's way easy on the wallet. We loved the lobsta roll so much that we got two on the way to the airport. You know, for the long 20 minute plane ride back to Oahu ;) Oh, I also liked their sweet poi rolls. We bought a bag of those and they're great for snacks when your driving around Kauai!

I had a great sandwich here on my recent trip to Kauai. The Carolina includes turkey, bacon, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, ranch all on two very thick slices of freshly made wheat bread. They have an extensive selection of breads and toppings. This place is pretty popular and I have to say it was one of the best meals I had on my trip! It's worth stopping by for lunch on your way to the south side of the island or before a hike.
Love the vegetarian sandwich.... super fresh bread, always tasty. Good potato salad also (sometimes they run out). My favorite sandwich shop on the island!
