Announced 4 days agoYUM! I love Delessio's. I always over eat because everything looks so good and I can't stop piling food on my plate. It is a great place to go with a variety of taste buds because there is something for everyone. The serve as an open buffet and then weigh your plate for the price. So if you eat a little you pay a little, but I have yet to meet anyone who can stop adding food to their mound. Their desserts are spectacular as well. I highly recommend Delessio's for lunch!
Good hot items, especially the brisket (yum), although I think these all suffer from not being made on site - gotta try the Market St location I guess. Disappointing salad bar, mostly pre-made macaroni salads etc. The desserts I've tried so far looked or sounded better than they tasted. But it's not bad. I'll still stop in frequently and will continue to try various items.
Wow, its like being a little kid in a candy store. Yesterday was my first time shopping at Delessio and i always drive by on my way home. I was craving for cupcakes so i made an impromptu trip to Delessio. Good thing i did because my goodness, their bakery is filled with delicious goodies! chocolates bars? bread pudding? mini cupcakes? scones? AND MORE! i ended up purchasing 4 mini cupcakes ($1.75 each), they were tiny but filled with icing goodness.
Next time, ill come back and try their rotisserie section! Also, kudos to the cashier who was really helpful and informed me the cupcakes are REALLY GOOD.
YUM!!! Such a great place to stop on the way home from work to grab tasty amazing food. The variety and flavors are wonderful. It is fabulous when you are exhausted and need a nourishing meal.

Solid place to go if you don't feel like cooking or if it's too hot to cook like this past weekend. I have been here many, many times to pick up things from their hot deli. Customer service is awesome....I believe the manager Toby? Tuffy? is really sweet and informative, and really listens to what you want. Best Rotisserie Chicken and Roasted Pork with spinach and bacon....the cold salad bar is awesome as well. I know most review about the cupcakes which I think are alright....but my fave is the bread pudding! And their chocolate raspberry cake is the best! They do have a breakfast hot deli only on the weekends ( I think) which is ok.....more like I stated earlier for lunch/dinner. They weigh by the pound so be careful!
I just spent $20 there today for lunch. I got:
roasted chicken
califlower with some kind of cream sauce
fennel something or another (delicious)
mac & cheese.
All from their buffet thingy. Everything was very good. I had never had fennel before and it was, delicious! My suggestion is to grab a little box, otherwise you'll have lotsa leftovers.
I've been to this place many times since it opened on Broderick and I love it. It is a little pricy.
The staff is super nice. The manager chef lady is helpful and friendly.
Their cupcake bar is fantastic. So is their olive bar. But their cupcake bar, with all their little cupcakes, makes me feel like I am in cupcake heaven.
I JUST ATE THE YUMMIEST THING EVER!
I was quietly doing my grocery shopping at falletti's and I looked over to see someone restocking the "dessert smorgasbourg" and I saw this beautiful little croissant with some white icing on it... what was it? A caramel filled pastry with a lemon icing and buttery flaky yumminess infused right in. You know when you taste something and you quickly realize you have NO CHOICE but to ram the rest of the item into your mouth as fast as you can? That's what happened to me next.

Hands-down the most impressive hot chocolate I've had in my life. They have a mocha version too.
Their cakes are stunning and delicous also.
Most of the people who work here are very friendly, which is especially appreciated when I need suggestions on cheese or help with deli products. The manager is very nice and I've seen her pay out of her own pocket for some girl that didn't have enough money to cover her purchase. She and the guy who runs the deli meats section both get 5 stars!!
A BIG tip I have for you is to get any sliced meats by Boccalone, which is Chris Cosentino's line of cured deli meat. As far as I know, Delessio is one of few retailers that carry this AMAZING line (which is wayyy better than Framani and Molinari and others). They make the most delicate mortadella, awesome salami, lardo (which is hard to find), and other yummy things. Delessio's cheese selection is pretty lacking, but there is enough of a selection to make a few good choices.
My complaints are mostly about the prepared and hot food... since nothing is made in house (it's all made on Market St. and prepped on Broderick), the things don't taste all that fresh and you have to choose the deli sandwiches they have premade (which wind up soggy). Most of the hot food I have tried, except the pressed sandwiches, have not been seasoned well. This is the trademark of food made somewhere else, and then seasoned at a different location. Often it winds up incompatible and tastes funny.
The pastries and baked goods can be really nice, although it's not the best bakery for sure. I do not recommend the dulce du leche cake because something about it tastes like cheese... I bought it for my BF's birthday awhile back and neither of us could eat more than a few bites. I like the selection of mini cupcakes, although I've never had one I really thought was delicious. What IS fabulous are their chocolate chip cookies, but only when they are hot from the oven. They have oatmeal in them and taste really uniquely good.
The other day I was making some Kraft mac 'n cheese for the exchange student living with me and I felt bad. I tried to dress it up with a can of tuna and some pepper but I still felt guilty. I felt worse when I went to Delessio's by myself and had a half pound of their mac 'n cheese and a half roasted chicken and a Stone IPA. I was having a great lunch and rubbing my belly while Sato was probably rubbing his head.
Anyway, he's not reviewing me, I'm reviewing Delessio's. They have a wonderful assortment of hot dishes, panini's, cold salads, and sweets. You can buy your lunch and a beer from Falletti's and sit in the market and watch the cars go by. It is as expensive as a restaurant though but you don't have to tip anyone.

this is the prepared foods place that's connected to faletti foods. they have better-than-decent pressed sandwiches, prepared stuff for people like me who are lazy and don't cook very often, and a supremely evil dessert counter that is cleverly positioned right next to the checkout.
but for me, the greatest thing about this place is the pure convenience. it's smack between oak and fell, which is where i so often find myself, idling in traffic, thinking about how i don't have anything at home for dinner. and you can scoot right into faletti and buy whatever else you need. and, there's parking. say no more.
Who would have ever thought, walking back from the DMV, I would find such a gem of a place as this?
The bakery is to die for, and not only that - their bakery staff is top notched. They're not invasive constantly asking if you need help with anything, they offer suggestions instead and by suggestion - I mean they almost let you taste everything. Other than the cupcakes - which are little crack cakes, I never thought to find good red velvet cake past the Mason Dixon, but oooh my goodness - Delessio's is Yum. But I digress, I was torn between a few selections and this one woman (who was on her break too) suggested using the little cups and spoons to sample what I like. When I couldn't sample the cakes, she did the next best thing, she went into the open kitchen and pulled out the icing and filling for me to try. Seriously they're malt buttercream filling? Is that not the best?
The cakes are moist, I came home with two cupcakes, some bread pudding and a chocolate cake with malt buttercream - all my friends raved about how the cake was sweet but not over sugary sweet and the consistency wasn't dry left out after a day.
Brownie points for the fair prices, and uber brownie points for their customer service. Coming into a higher end market and bakery - you expect high prices but usually it should come with the service and knowledge too. Delessio's delivers all that and 10 lbs you will never regret.

While waiting for my Snapper Po Boy today (amazing!) I was offered to sample quite a bit of salami. The guy behind the counter offered me three different types that had all different types of flavor, sweet, spicy, mild or just melt in your mouth fattiness. I wouldn't pay 25 bucks a pound for the stuff, but I know where to go when I want to throw a meat, cheese and wine party in my tiny apartment.
What is it with those friggin' mini cupcakes? They're $1.75 each?! They're TINY. I could eat three dozen for lunch.
It's killing me, knowing about these little crack-cakes. I feel sick inside, knowing they're there all the time...
But if I eat them to satisfy my disgusting cupcake addiction, I will have to survive on top ramen and tap water for the rest of my life.
And after thinking about it, it doesn't seem like that bad an exchange after all.

Great location! It's in a quiet neighborhood inside of the supermarket Fratelli. It's a great spot to hang out on weekend mornings if you don't feel like standing in line for brunch. You get peet's coffee here, Delessio bakery and deli, and then some grocery shopping done.
Best cupcakes!! I'd never imagine that there's a wonderland in a tiny cupcake!! I've tried almost every flavors and I loved all of them. I used to think cupcakes are just the most disgusting things in the world besides the sponge cake with sugary icing from my college cafeteria. Even when I went to high end bakeries, I never got it just because the size is too big to have a try. But these little cuties are just the right size. It is a heavenly sin, but it's small enough that it doesn't take long to persuade yourself that it's OK to indulge. The bread pudding was very good too, very similar to the bread pudding from Tartine. Once I went there and got inspired by the eggnog bread pudding so I went home and made my own. Delish...

The food here kicks a#s!!! If you're a sweet freak, you've gotta go!
They've also got good hot prepared foods and the cheese selection is usually better than average. At least you're not spending your Whole Paycheck...if you know what I mean.
Fabulous deli... so glad they're in my 'hood!
Most often than not, we often use the Delessio hot food section to round out a meal of leftovers - their roasted broccoli with caesar dressing, mac and cheese, and black bean green beans are always delicious.
For entrees we love their pork shoulder cooked any way - sometimes we see it beer-braised; other times cooked with coconut milk, lemongrass and chiles - always exceptional.
They have a more extensive fancy cheese counter than Falletti's, though I wish they'd carry more Northern California cheeses such as Cowgirl and Point Reyes. They've also recently hired a staffmember who's very knowledgeable about cheeses.
And the list goes on -- nothing on the hot table strikes your fancy? Turn around and peruse the cold case where offerings also change daily -- at any one time you're likely to see bread puddings, crab cakes, country pates, and individual lasagna servings, along with deli meats.
The salad bar rarely changes - you'll most likely find roasted veggies, romaine lettuce, edamame, noodle salad, beet salad, bulgur and couscous, dressed cucumbers, olives and cold thai chicken every day.
The desserts are sometimes hit-or-miss (hits: eggnog bread pudding; miss: dulce de leche cake) but you can never go wrong with the mini cupcakes.
Outdoor seating for those who have puppies or like the cold.
I have two words for you: Mini Cupcakes.
I'm very happy this place isn't close to me. It is walking distance, but not "run out and grab 15 cupcakes to stuff in my face and be back in my house in 10 minutes" walking distance. This distance may keep me from gaining a zillion pounds from eating all the yummy stuff here.
Oh - they also have hot food, salads, an olive bar and deli. And cakes. Yummy, beautiful cakes. And did I mention the mini-cupcakes?
One day, I was really really hungover, and probably still a little bit drunk. I needed food, and since I was still wearing my fancy-pants party dress and makeup from the night before, I decided I wanted fancy-pants food to match.
This place did the trick. Awesome.

I've been wanting to go to Delessio Market & Bakery for a long time, my friend drove me over here. Once I ordered a Chocolate Tower Cake and it was awesome.
This time I got 2 mini cupcakes at $1.75 ea. Both were pretty good: one had peanut butter & meringue on top (very pretty) & the other was a nutella one w/ hazelnuts on the top.
Also got some salami: Boccalone Suppressata at $22.95 a lb only got .09 oz and it was $2.07. Also got Boccalone Capocollo at $24.99 only got .13 oz total was $3.25
There is also a salad bar & other cooked foods, sandwiches, cakes, tarts, & more desserts.
Recommended.

Oh. My. Goodness.
I'm speechless. I asked my girlfriend to bring me back a sandwich on her way back from Brunch. She stopped at this place and brought me the most godly of sandwiches ever devised: a red snapper po'boy.
Words can not describe my feelings for this sandwich. I'm not even going to try. What I will say is that I'm extremely full and it has been hours since I had the sandwich, but I still crave it. I may go back for dinner I want one so badly.

I enjoy the food at both Delessio locations in San Francisco. I usually enjoy the food and like the preparations, but find them to be inconsistent. Sometimes it is great, and sometimes less than average. Service is much the same, helpful but with attitude.
The bakery department always looks better than it tastes. Wish it tasted as good as it looks.
Yesterday I played DD for a group of friends who ate some laced carrot cake.
After a really delightful couple of hours of blissful languidity at Dolores, we headed over to GGP to see the Jug Band Festival (holy god I love San Francisco). En route, we stopped at Delessio's to get a picnic lunch.
I wholeheartedly recommend setting loose and watching a handful of stoned people wonder around the self-serve islands here. You'd think they were at the Wonka Factory sans the slave labor.
After less than half an hour of putting various kinds of foods into various boxes, they were all very, very proud of themselves for making such rapid-fire menu selections (they basically took a bit of everything).

This place has Excellent food and it's easy and quick to get. You just go in and there's a buffet type thing, so you just get a box and start putting things in it. It's all about 9 bucks a pound so it is fairly reasonably although if you are really hungry you could end up spending like 12 bucks for dinner. It's really convenient to be able to grab a bunch of excellent food real fast and take it home on your way in from work. They also have an excellent bakery in case you feel like getting fat or bringing some stuff to a party. Anyway they always change the stuff around but you can always get a good salad, amazing Polenta and Meatloaf, mac and cheese, and whatever they are currently cooking. They also have great paninis and ready made sandwiches.

I was at the DMV renewing my driver's license, and it was lunchtime, so I walked over to this place. I'd always seen it on my way to 101, so I thought I'd give it a try. I shared a popyseed roll with lox, cream cheese, onion, and capers, which was fine. But, what I also got were the mini cupcakes. We got one peanut butter chocolate cupcake, and a coffee one, and something else, but the most delish one was the one with coconut. It was so yummy! How could something sooo good come in such a tiny cupcake. So, you're wondering why the three stars? I think it requires another visit to experience all the bakery has to offer. After reading all the reviews, I can't wait to try their mac n'cheese, and chocolate bubble wrap!?! Hmmm...definitely piqued my interest.
Perfect little cupcakes. Pastries equal to Tartine without the lines or the attitude. The towering lemon decadence cake...sweeeeet!
Reasonable prices for high quality.
Both De Lessio and Faletti's are so pricey it's hard not to feel like you're subsidizing the Home Owners Association fees of the newly built condominiums upstairs. But the tempting sights and smells have a way of superseding all spending aversions here.
We spent almost $30 on two oversized sandwiches and three oversized sodas this afternoon. After narfing them down, now Mark and I feel stuffed in an oversized way.
The tofu sandwich is definitely the best savory treatment of been curd I've ever tasted. And the curried turkey was sweetly out of this world.
Desserts account for about half De Lessio's inventory and it's all aranged in very original, mouthwatering configurations. Like the towering cakes in either buttercream or chocolate, both topped with frosting sculpted into tall columns. And tarts mixing-and-matching fruits, syrups and mouses of various flavors. Cookies, truffles and fudge by the pound.

OH MY GOD!
Delessio must know me. And by know me, I mean read my inner most thoughts and my deepest locked away secret hopes and dreams.
I want to have a house-wife from the 50s who has dinner waiting for me when I get home. I usually take all kinds of short cuts and utilize pre-packaged or pre-made ingredients to ensure I do as little cooking as possible.
My boyfriend wants to know why I don't make my own this, or cook my own that. Why do I buy it pre-made? I play it off, like, "Oh I'm so busy with my corporate job that I cannot possibly be expected to make a home- cooked meal after slaving for the man all day long."
But then I found Delessio. I can scrap my blue prints for a time machine and put away the lesbian porn.
Gourmet food, already made, laid out on platters, waiting for me to scoop it up, take it home and eat it straight out of the box ??????
I may never cook again.

4 stars for the stellar bakery. And the bubble wrap chocolate. Delessio is doing its job keeping me fat. I can cardio 45 minutes a day till the day I die and undo it all with one trip here.
The staff has been nice. I've only gotten the mac n' cheese from the hot section because the word BECHAMEL sauce loomed in its description and if I am anything, I am a milk/butter/flour whore.
It was ok, but nothing to write home about.
What I will write home about? The uber-rich Tres Leches, the scandalous Croissant Bread Pudding and the mini cupcakes that keep me gyming it for fear I may have to wear stretchy pants for the rest of my life.
The ham and cheese croissant has bacon in it (!!)
So delectable and decadent, smaller than your fist, it's the perfect size.
Run in here for a quick something to go on your way downtown on Oak or on your way to the Avenues on Fell. All the ready made sandwiches look so good. tick tick tick. . . times up, I never can make up my mind which one to pick after staring in this section every time. Always finally capitulating to the croissant area. One day. . .
UPDATE:
Finally went in for the tuna nicoise sandwich and the mini muffaletta. Omigoodness. Pick this up on the way to the airport and have a great meal on your no frills flight.
I'll save you the pontification about how the neighborhood fought for this kind of tenant mix in the Broderick Place development, and simply say, DeLessio fucking rules.
I have a friend who lives across the street (YES RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET YOU LUCKY TRAMP!) and it makes for good times, because nothing goes better with two hours of Project Runway like cheddared polenta with tomato jam, Israeli couscous zucchini salad, tres leches cake, and two of the best chocolate chip cookies ever made. Also, according to the local expert on the foods of the Latin Caribbean, DeLessio's Cuban pork pannini hot sandwich is a more reasonable facsimile of a cuban sandwich than anywhere else on this godforsaken coast.
There is nothing like artfully prepared, dynamite-tasting rich foods to help you appreciate the beauty of your existence.

I can't remember the last time I saw a brioche in San Francisco before this place opened up.
And this was a transcendent brioche, fresh organic berries baked into a light pastry with a touch of marzipan and sugared icing. Perfection.
The sandwiches are on such thick bread that they have to be on the grill for awhile to be warm on the inside, so don't do that when you're in a rush as I was. Still tasty tho. And spendy, real spendy, but quality comes at a price.
Cake care to look up and notice the not-so-clear lines between the Delessio Bakery and the Falletti Foods Market that it's joined to. No, you can't buy your Delessio sandwich at Falletti (or vice versa), but at least they're nice about it when they send you back to the other end of the store.
This is a true story (TRUE STOREEEE) about one girl who went on date with a guy that DIDN'T like cheese!!!
Honestly though....This is number 10 on the List of Requirements for my guy. It wasn't even on the list before I went on said date! He wasn't even lactose intolerant...he just didn't like it. How is that even possible!! NOT liking cheese!! He was cray-cray.
Delessio's triggered the Anti-Cheese Boy flash back today. Macaroni and Cheese, Potatoes Au Gratin, Tomato, Cucumber Feta Salad, Polenta with Parmesan!! I loaded a carton up with Mac and Cheese and went home happy to sit my lazy ass on the couch to carbo and fat load. MMMmmm......sooo goood. I love cheese.
Thank god I kicked his ass to the curb and didn't ever call him back after the first date...it would have been a disaster. Besides..he had facial hair. Another no-no.

Lends a much needed gourmet boon to the neighborhood. There are a number of hidden gem food spots in this section, but Delessio's market just throws it all over the edge.
This is the second Delessio market and, just like with the first (at Haight and Market down by Flax), the strength and quality of the food is so good that it's likely to draw a crowd that will help to single-handedly alter the ethos of the neighborhood.
"HEALTH" FOOD... NOT.
Ignats P is right - the hot food bar is a heart attack waiting to happen, but, man, what a way to go. The potatos au gratin are outstanding.
THE PRIGS HAVE IT
One question, though... is it an absolute requirement at the Delessio Markets that the sandwich guys have to be prigs? When I've been to either locale and bought a sandwich I feel like I've been putting the sandwich guy out or something merely by asking for the hot pannini or what have you. And I know it's not just me. I've seen the sando guy literally roll his eyes at a customer's simple request that the sando guy pass over a pre-made sandwich. Is this treatment supposed to be European or something?

How can you be a bakery this fancy and not offer an organic whole-grain donut?
Someone needs to get their values straight...
I'm in sandwich heaven...let me rave about the Delessio meatloaf sandwich. Contrary to other reviewers, the bread (a thin foccacia) was not soggy. The sandwich was perfectly constructed. Let me explain.
(1) Bread was thin and chewy. A lot of places give you too much bread or bread that's too thick. The proportion of fillings to bread is very important. They understand this.
(2) Flavors meld. I had their roast beef sandwich too. I get the feeling that they've given a lot of thought to providing the right cheese and condiments. With the meatloaf sandwich, the cheese is mild and the tomato sauce is tangy. There isn't too much mayo. The fresh basil is such a nice touch.
(3) Quality ingredients. Fresh basil. Moist meatloaf, thickly sliced.
(4) Height of sandwich is manageable. It's tall enough that you have to open wide but not so tall that it's impossible to bite into.
(5) Construction holds up. The sandwich does not drip or fall apart.
The vanilla creamsicle mini cupcake was a perfect dessert.
Also, their brisket is out of this world. No, it's not a place for dieters, but the food is really, really good.

Good service can either make or break a positive Yelp review and I have to say, both the guys manning the sandwich counter and register at Delessio were top-notch, super friendly and helpful. After much deliberation, I chose to have the Cuban pork panini and my boyfriend had a fish po-boy. Along with a tiny container of the so-called best mac and cheese in SF and four mini cupcakes, we happily tucked into our feast at one of the tables outside.
Those sandwiches are mightier than they appear! My panini was perfectly crisp on the outside and stuffed with juicy pork and pickles. My boyfriend liked his po-boy but could only finish half of it. He thoroughly enjoyed the mac and cheese and I'm sure we'll be back to try the other hot foods offered. We ended up eating the cupcakes later in the afternoon at the zoo. Oh boy! I think the miniature size is perfect and allows you to try more flavors at a time. My favorite was the lemon cake with lemon curd filling and raspberry frosting and coconut shreds. My boyfriend thought they were pretty dry and so his favorite cupcake is still the old fashioned from Miette. I think the texture of Delessio cupcakes remind me more of a muffin and that might explain the dryness.
Regardless, we'll be back for lunch again. I'm looking forward to the cauliflower salad and tres leches cake!

The ready-to-eat food bar is divine and will satisfy whatever your taste buds crave any particular day: from (to name a very few) turkey lasagna, mac-n-cheese and honey-glazed carrots or spicy sesame noodle salad, vegan ratatouille and home made hummus to a sumptuous selection of mouth watering desserts. Yes, I agree with some of the other reviews, the service can be lacking at times but I am more than willing to look past it and show the employees my pearly whites. Any lack in service is due only to the fact that this place is happening almost all the time keeping the employees busy, busy, busy...
I highly recommend Delessio's! Great place to buy a cake for a celebration. They cater as well!
