Great Sandwiches.
I see many of the same people who tend to get the same thing everyday. They are hooked on their SALAD! My coworker eats the mixed greens, chicken salad (excellent, not too much mayo either!) and roasted sweet potatoes.
Try the chicken, sun dried tomatoes and mozzarella sandwich or the steak sandwich with spicy mayo, avocado and tomatoes.
Clean and bright with outdoor seating.
Great variety, kind of expensive. Wish I could go more!
If you're looking to avoid spending a ton of dough at Starbucks on your way to work, or simply bypass the drudge of chain shopping in order to enjoy your morning pick-me-up, Delectica is an excellent spot for coffee, unique breakfast options, muffins, bagels and more!
They open relatively early for coffee and baked goods, while breakfast foods begin at 8pm.
For a large latte, large cappucino, low-fat strawberry muffin and a toasted bagel with jam, I forked over about $12. Not a total steal compared to the 'Bucks, but it's definitely nice to put your money into a local company. The service was quick and both coffees were delicious and made right!
The almond pastry is delectable! A great little coffee shop in Manhattan. The smell of their dark roast definately permeates out the door. I have had pastries and coffee for breakfast only...but the lunch menu looks very fresh. The decor is new age and "metallic" making it a bit cold, rather than cozy inside but I find it perfect for the morning. The music is pretty fun too!
A soup & salad location with fresh pasta and ingredients on ice at the front, plus baked goods for the morning weary. Coffee is black and hot here, with fresh ice tea, too (although their cold plastic cups have a strong odor about them).
Seating is minimal, and while the price is up there, it's not as bad as the organic place down the street. The place reeks of trying too hard to be trendy, almost. But very clean, which I can appreciate.
This place is a clean, no-frills, tasty-food sandwich and salad joint. And that was a pretty damn good sandwich. However, for the money I paid for it, IT HAD BETTER BE GOOD. Damn, son, whoever heard of a $10 sandwich??
Even with that hefty price, however, for some reason it was not all that filling. I had my yummy prosciutto, basil, mozzarella on ciabatta around 12:30, and I was feenin' for Monsieur Softee by 3ish.
(Unrelated: At Mister Softee, I was standing in line behind a woman who was trying to bargain with the Mister Softee dude. I shit you not. She was trying to talk down her $2 ice cream cone. "What about $1.75? That is not that much different!" *pause* *pregnant pause* Seriously.)
This might be my "special occasion" combined with "I'm-on-a-one-day-diet-after-stuffing-my-face-with -Bon-Chon-and-A-Salt-And-Battery-the-night-before" go-to place. Other than that, however, there are plenty of other (less expensive) options in the neighborhood.
Delectica is not your average lunch place. The sandwiches and salads are fresh and unique and the quality far outrstrips most soup and sandwich type restaurants. But all of that quality and uniqueness comes at a higher price than you would pay at a more typical establishment. In terms of taste, I give it 4 stars but in terms of value 3.
The freshest salad/sandwich place in the area with excellent choices, and the best food for meatlovers and vegetarians alike. What I like most about this place is the owner who has a knack for locking customers in by making us love him.
While waiting in line during my last visit with some work buds, he gave out pieces of falafel to us. Later, he came by our table to ask why one of our friends wasn't eating. We told him her tummy was weird from a bad bagel. 5 minutes later, he put a cup of tea and cookie in front of her "for your tummy.." on the house. What the hell!? This is NuYawk. No one is that nice.. right? Wrong. He came by a little later and gave the rest of us small pieces of dessert so we wouldn't feel left out because he gave our friend a cookie. Amazing.
Try the fried cauliflower/ falafel/ beef triangle salad (with balsamic vinegar dressing). Be warned though, that you'd have to expect to pay close to $10 for just the salad. But with the freebies on the side and the good ingredients, take it as a nice Friday treat to yourself.
It is a little pricey for the size of the salad... but the size is deceiving. I can eat a lot... and by a lot I mean I can seriously put down pounds and pounds of food in one sitting. But I can say that the salad here was just the right amount of food, it left me feeling satiated but not overly full.
Upon walking in, I was greeted by this sweet girl behind the counter who immediately offered me two delicious falafel balls with tahini sauce for FREE. It was the perfect little nosh while deciding what salad to get.
I decided on the chicken salad with a side of breaded cauliflower with tahini sauce. It was delicious.
The breakfast sandwhiches here are pretty good too... though not greasy enough if you are hung over.
Try any salad,
and Doughnut Plant for Dessert!
Friday Falafel
i came here for lunch today and got a salad topped with hummus and broccoli/feta. the 'salad' is basically a bowl of mixed greens and then you get to pick from a variety of middle-eastern inspired toppings. there is cous cous, hummus, sweet potatoes, broccoli with feta, roasted cauliflaur with tahini..the toppings are good and they definitely pile it on - but i mean, they better freakin' pile it on! my salad with 2 toppings cost close to $11!! and my stomach is kind of hurting now b/c it was a bit too much.
i may go here again - they have sandwiches too..but i prefer other places in the area like pret a manger, cosis, and hale&hearty.
i give it 4 stars b/c it definitely all tasted very fresh and good and it had a nice friendly atmosphere to it.
EDIT - so i changed this to 3 stars b/c my stomach is still hurting and its midnight...i ate this 12 hours ago...i think something was off with the hummus maybe. nevertheless...if i ever do go here again (which i highly doubt) - no hummus for me.
Finally a Cafe' Au Lait comme il faut! Haven't tried their savoury dishes, but what is served up for breakfast is quite good. And an excellent alternative to Starbuck's
ok, i know- a little pricey. this is the only reason i don't go here more often. But can i say - yum yum yum. All the salads are amazing. I mean the salad isn't really a salad, but an entire hearty meal of delicousness piled on top of fresh greens. the herb dressing is fab. my fave here are the sweet potatoes and the hummus. The soups are yummy too.
