Since my hair went prematurely mouse-y gray when I was 21, I've been dyeing it progressively more unnatural shades of red (if you have to dye it, why not flaming blood red mauve?). The downside to this is that my siren hair fades fast and the process is expensive and damaging. (and the gray root are pretty noticable against what I've cooked up.) I end up with overprocessed hair and having a hair budget that I HATE. Then I heard about Elumen color, which Defining Image Salon is the only Portland salon to offer.
Elumen is both permanent and ultra-conditioning. It doesn't matter what shade you use: it doesn't fade or leave your hair unless you cut it out. It's incredibly bright! I saw Laura for my first Elumen dye (and the online scheduling is awesome!) just because she had the time I wanted available. Everybody seems like they are really skilled working with the line. It's been a month since she and I worked together to find the shade that would best complement my complexion and tastes-- it ended up being different than my original idea, but her instincts with my cool colors were completely right! My extremely bright right with blue tones has not faded in the slightest five weeks out and the color actually strengthened my hair. Excellent mellow vibe in the salon and good, though conservative product recommendations simply because my hair had been in such a crisis state and we wanted to preserve the new found "not falling out" state. At $65, an ordinarily expensive color experience with a great consultation in a pleasant environment (they offered me wine!) was awesome! My hair color is going to be lower maintainance and I will not longer be battling red-fade. Woo!
First I'll start by saying that a friend of mine works here and she told me to check out their website to see if she had any open appointments. Holy cool website. Making an appointment online is a snap - it's so great because I don't have to be that annoying person on the phone, "what about Wednesday... um, no, Thursday... do you have anything in the afternoon... I mean evening... oh, never mind... what about Tuesday..." etc. I can do all that online!
Secondly, Christina gave me the best haircut that I have ever had (and I'm not just saying that). It was perfect. She made sure that it would look good air-dried as well as all fancified - even though she knows that I'll never do it! :) I would definitely suggest seeing Christina... she rocks.
Oooo, I get to be the very first reviewer, well how cool is that? So, Defining Image is a salon tucked into the quaint neighborhood of Beaumont-Wilshire...I love this little 'hood, reminds me of "Leave it to Beav" or something, but in a good way. Now, back to Defining Image...so, this place looks like it was decorated in the eighties. Or maybe the mid-nineties (yeah, I'm dating myself) but hey who cares about the funky "sponge painted" floor (with gold sparkles), they can now be deemed "retro" and get away with it (although it might take a couple years to be retro enough to be called cool). The salon staff is FABULOUS. It is the only place where I will trust anyone to paint highlights upon my hair. It isn't cheap, but my hair is long, (it's got to be like 8-10 years old at the longest point), so--no offense, people--I don't wanna "F" that hair up cause it takes a while to grow back. No really--they are nice, they are talented, and they gots mad skilz with the hair cuts and color. Give em a try. Plus, Beaumont-Wilshire is so darned cute! http://www.portlandnei...
