Brunch in the city means waiting in long lines and ordering a delicious something off the menu.  But when I was a little girl, it meant going to my aunt's country club, eating a ton of food from a buffet, and sneaking sips of mimosas.  The Deer Path Inn brought back those memories when I went to there for a Sunday champagne brunch.

Served buffet style, there was a ton of food ranging from delicious cold salads to carved meat to a jaw dropping amount of seafood.  I would have eaten more of all of the above BUT I was saving room for the dozen or so desserts.

While we rarely venture up to Lake Forest, it was a nice to drive up on a Sunday morning.  If you want to get out of the city one weekend, I would recommend you heading North to the Deer Path Inn.

Oh how I love the Deer Path Inn...perfect for cocktails, lunching, and whatnotting.

My favorite spot is the Pub, the space is small, cozy, the drinks are strong. I frequent the Pub every time I'm in Lake Forest. The food is alright...a bit greasy for my tastes, but hot damn, every now and then fries are necessary.

The rooms are cozy as well! They are quite small compared to other hotels in the surrounding area, but this is the best spot if staying in Lake Forest...close to all of the local boutiques. The floral decor could be updated...but hey, what do you expect from a historic hotel?

I've also been here for holiday meals...Easter, Thanksgiving...always fabulous presentation and fab service...especially if grandparents are in attendance.

The Deer Path is quintessentially Lake Forest.

Cute little inn that evokes a Knights of the Roundtable, Medieval Times kind of feel. I was half-expecting Sir Lancelot himself to come prancing into my room, jousting Sir Robin to defend my honor. In all seriousness, very cozy, English B&B feel.

I added a bridal shower luncheon at the Deer Path Inn and thought this quaint little hotel was absolutely adorable. The room was absolutely beautiful and the perfect size for the amount of people (approximately 30) who attended the luncheon.  The food was very good as well...the first hour was a cocktail hour and I loved the bruchetta and the vegetarian egg rolls.  We had a choice between salmon or pine nut crusted chicken with pesto pasta for lunch. I chose the salmon and thought it was delicious, but everyone seemed to really enjoy the chicken dish as well.  I'm not sure what it's like to stay at this hotel, but if you are looking to throw a party in this party definitely check out the Deer Path Inn.

The restaurant is good, they use great product and have a welcoming staff. There is, yet isn't, a difference between the main dining room and "the pub". I would recommend the restaurant as somewhere to get a three and a half star meal (I'm stingy with the stars).

The hotel, in my multiple experiences, is another story. The hotel claims itself with plaques for being "historical" and that's a large part of the expense of staying at ye olde Deer Path Inn. However, it's historical value in reality is very small, for as much as the place tries to look like a quaint bed and breakfast, it is not. Many of the rooms are small, cramped, uncomfortably so. Their televisions are outdated from the 1980s (I remember my aunt owning the same exact model). Some of the junior suites have small rooms but gigantic bathrooms (which are probably larger than the bedroom). However, if you are looking for a hotel with space and amenities look elsewhere.

I had my wedding here last 2000 and everything was just perfect. We had our ceremony in their garden and the reception in the English Room. Last July my wife and I came to spend the weekend to celebrate our anniversary and not only they remembered us but welcome us with a nice amenity saying welcome back. The rooms have been renovated and the bathrooms are spa like and bigger than before. My wife and I decided to come down for some cocktail in he pub and we were so happy to see that they added a sushi bar! It was one of the best sushi we had in a long long time. The whole weekend went wonderful. We were event greeted by their GM when we were checking out and saying that he remembered our wedding back in 2000.
