I can get a good size mug of Shiner Bock at 2.30 cents! Basically this place is not marked up and is one of the best hang out bars in Austin. If you want to be off the beaten path of Downtown Austin but nearby Deep Eddy Cabaret is the place. The bartenders are very friendly, the decor is of yesterday's pass with nick nacks, old school beer advertising, and local sports memorabilia. You can go play Pool, A golf video game, or Mrs Pac Man as activities. The jukebox is old school and plays great tunes for a place like this. There is a small but nice outdoor patio area where if your a smoker you can take a smoke. No bouncers and no hipster crowds. This is just a down to earth local place with the best beer rates in town for any bar I have been too. It's basically, in comparison, happy hour pricing that's more than any other happy hour prices in town.

Cheap beer. Not too crowded on Friday night. Plenty of characters. People willing to talk to you or join you in a game of pool. Parking. The outdoor area could be bigger.

Basically, a great spot to end the night away from the downtown crowds.

$9 pitchers of shiner and a bunch of frozen mugs.

we came in after floating down the river from red bud island, we were cold and wet and thirsty.  this place was the perfect refuge.  my favorite local dive bar.  ok, probably the only local dive bar.

    Love love love this place!

I was fortunate enough to have a bartender friend of mine invited me to come along after hanging out on 6th street for a couple hours. It was the perfect get-away that I needed.

They've got an awesome jukebox. I think they're probably the only place in the south to have Iggy Pop's "New Values". A dollar will get you 5 songs which is totally reasonable. And the volume is perfect, loud enough to hear but it won't drown out your conversations or force you to yell.

The drink menu is simple, beer...wine...done. The beer is cheap, the wine, not so much. But really, who goes there for the wine?

Finally, their patio is pretty fly. Only two large picnic style tables though. So when the weather is nice it's prime butt real-estate and it can get filled up quick. But don't let that stop ya, the patrons there are totally friendly and will typically let anyone take a seat and jump in on the conversation.

Deep Eddy is a bar with heart.

It's got a vibe similar to what you'd find at Ginny's or G&S Saloon.

It's greatest features are the bar staff which is always friendly and attentive... Deep Eddy also harbors one of the best Juke boxes in Town. A friendly mix of Blues, Classic Rock, and newer tunes as well. I knew this bar was for me when I could play "heroin" by The Velvet Underground and hear some groans from around the bar.

Possibly Most important is their prices. I'm fairly certain The Lonestar at Deep Eddy is cheaper than a soda at Maudie's across the street.

If you're into reading about draw-backs, there is none for me when it comes to this bar BUT! If you can't decide if you love your favorite polo, your trophy-wife, or you latest Dave Mathew's Band CD, this place may not be for you. Fair warning.

Tip big! And enjoy the people here at a genuine Austin house of spirits.

I am simple woman with simple requests. In my opinion, bars should:
    1. Serve cheap beer - preferably in pitchers.
    2. Be chill enough you can hear the person sitting across from you.
    3. Have at least one Johnny Cash album on the jukebox.
    4. Have no implicit or explicit dress code.

Bonus Points given to establishments with Ms. Pacman machines; wood paneling.

Why hello there, Deep Eddy's.  See you again soon.

All I really want to say is pitchers of Lonestar are $6.40. However, I'm sure Ms. Yelp herself won't like that, so I will ramble on. Lonestar pitchers are $6.40.

After a debauchery filled ACL, we walked over to Deep Eddy's for a little break to relax the footsies before the long walk to the car. Lonestar pitchers are $6.40. The waitress was short. You know that kind of "mature" waitress that feels she's been bartending for so many years she doesn't need to put up a front or lend out a smile. Yea, that kind of waitress. She could have also been short after attending to all the ACLers coming through, but ahhh...let's get real. For $6.40 pitchers of Lonestar, she could have cussed us out and we would have just gone back to our table with a smile to drink our $6.40 pitcher of beer.

I love this bar. I used to live close enough to walk, and I admit I haven't been there since I moved and had two kids, but seriously, it's a great little dive bar. Filled with quirky, unpretentious regulars, with more people talking to each other than watching TV. They leave the doors open in good weather, and the jukebox is just ridiculously good. A great place to grab a couple of beers and start off the night.

Deep Eddy, how I love thee, let me count the ways:

    1.  $8 pitchers of Shiner.  Done.
    2.  Fantastic jukebox.
    3.  Some of the hardest to beat score on Erotic Photohunt on the Crackbox machines that you'll find anywhere.  Cause sometimes everyone needs a little 80s softcore porn.
    4.  The women's bathroom has a "sex toy" machine.  There are like six different things you can get out of the dispenser, and they're all hilarious, and from what I can tell completely unuseful for any erotic purpose.
    5.  Never really too crowded.

I only took one star off because they let people smoke inside, which I hate, since you always leave smelling like the bottom of one of the smokers makeshift coaster ashtrays.  But still one of my all time favorite dives in Austin.

Unlike other so-called "dive bars" in Austin, you can usually find an unmistakable alchoholic sitting at the bar there at almost any time. But that only adds to the charm of this place.

Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do" always conjures Deep Eddy for me.  Maybe that's why I like the song.  Or maybe that's why I like the place.  (I'm not sure.)

I do know that I like this place because it is unassuming and cheap and I've had a lot of good times there.

This place is the perfect dive bar. $6.40 pitchers of Natty Light and Lonestar - seriously I thought I was in heaven.

By the time we made it here, our last stop on our bike margarita tour, I had lost quite a bit of blood due to an incident in Zilker Park involving my left pinky toe, some gravel, and my flip flop.  Nevertheless, I trudged on with 3/4 of a toe.

When we pulled up to Deep Eddy Cabaret bloodied, sweaty, but not broken.  The place looked like a shining beacon on a hill.  We trudged in and I promptly broke the backpack we had been carrying our stuff in all day while trying to find my shirt (oops).  Just in case you are wondering, this is a "no shirt, no service" type of establishment.

We saddled up at the bar and ordered up a cold brewski.  I popped a couple bucks into the jukebox and we started up a game of cards with a couple of the regulars.  After I polished off the first round, I ordered a pitcher of Natty ($6.40, I couldn't help myself!).  I only had about one last beer before the ladyfriend had to pull the plug as she wasn't sure she would be able to make it home on bike, ha.

Unfortunately, she was right.  About halfway to home she took a pretty nasty tumble.  Thankfully, I don't think she felt the true impact at that point.

Looks to be a great bar - I'll definitely be back for a pitcher or two.

Shhh!  Don't tell anyone!  (This is the best dive bar in Austin!)

First off, if you like pretentious downtown crowds, overpriced drinks, and paying to park, this is not your place.

If you're looking for a truly authentic Austin place, this is it.  No yuppies here (ok, maybe a couple), just a good neighborhood bar where the Shiner and Lonestar flows cheap.  It's not a really big place and on Friday nights it tends to get really packed.  However, if you come before 10, you can usually get a table somewhere.

The people who come here are a mixture of transplants and West-Austin locals.  Overall, the vibe is really good:  laidback, unpretentious, easy-going.  Don't feel like you need to dress up:  Just make sure you're wearing clothes.

The juke box, as many have mentioned, is excellent.  Pool tables are also present and quite competitive on a Friday night.  Magnolia Cafe is right across the street, which makes up for the fact that they don't serve any food (other than peanuts and pretzels).  Parking can be found in the Deep Eddy Pool parking lot to the rear of the bar.

One thing to note:  As far as I know, they are CASH ONLY, so be prepared.

I love Deep Eddy. I always have, since my friends and I started going here in college. When I proclaim my love for this seedy-ish dive bar, it's always hard for me to explain exactly why I love it so.

It's dark, which is important. Bars should either have large, sunny drinking patios (with misters, please, for the heat in the dead of summer) ...or be so dark inside that you can't really tell if it's night or day outside.

Deep Eddy has a jukebox too- which I like, because I like to pick my own country and western music. It is cash-only, which I often seem to forget. But I appreciate how cheap and frosty the beers are.

More good things- the bartender is always nice, you can always find an interesting conversation with the folks on the back patio, and you will probably get hit on by the older men playing pool on the way to the bathroom. It's exactly the kind of bar I like.

What's not to love about a place with "cabaret" in its name?  I think it's a nice Vegas-y touch.  Also I like that they feature the elusive mini pitchers, which are a handy compromise if you're with someone and vacillating between ordering two beers and ordering a full-size pitcher.  And they have Ms. Pac-Man, to boot.

It's not smoky inside any longer; smokers are relegated to the outside area now, so that should make the nonsmokers happy.

All in all, a neat little dive.....we passed a pleasant hour or so here last night.  And can't beat the thriftiness quotient.

Well finally after years of being in Austin, I was in the neighborhood and remembered Deep Eddy!  I arrived at 3 or so with a friend of mine after a day of hiking on the trails.  We weren't sure if they were going to be open but there was a sign on the door that said open 12-2am.  Those are some real bar hours there.

Great beer prices.  They have a half a pitcher called a mini for 5.50 that is perfect for two people or one very thirsty one.  They have a happy hour between 7 and 8 but their prices are great already.

I liked the bathroom as far as bathrooms go.  There is a lock on the door and even though it looks like you have to pay to get in there it is just for looks.    The condiment machine looks quite interesting.  And if you had a bad hair or thigh day, there is a full length mirror w/o lights so it is really a mystery on how you look.

Everyone was friendly and we will be back again.

Solidly the best bar in town.  Ridiculously cheap beer - $1.80 draft ALL THE TIME - a great mix of neighborhood locals and other Austinites.  The young get along with old-schoolers, and will often share a picnic table on the small outdoor patio.

You'll meet the strangest but coolest people.  Swing on by!

I had such a fun night here a while back. It is the epitome of hole-in-the-wall but what a wonderful departure from the usual. A large group of us sat at a large table, borrowed a deck of cards from the bartender, and played drinking games like we were at a college house party. Loved it! What other bar would let you get away with that?
The smoke was gross, so -1 star. Fun place though!

I hate the bathroom (two door-less stalls, one main door, very dirty). I hate the atmosphere . I love the beer prices.

Also, this older man who was kinda caught up in the swirl of elite Yelpers didn't get pissed at me when I grabbed his personal pitcher, he just kinda grabbed it out of my hand and told me it wasn't for me. Later, he offered me some. But we were on our way out.

The regulars made me pretty uncomfortable, so I doubt I'd be back again unless it was with a big group. Don't wear a short skirt here unless you're looking to get stared at.

Like to smoke while you drink? Well I think you've found your bar. I personally quit smoking, so drinking at Deep Eddy is like holding my arm in  a blast furnace, but that's my problem.

I would consider Deep Eddy a Regal Dive Bar of the highest order. Beer is cold and cheep, the staff is great, and the jukebox is one of my favorite in town. A typical visit for me includes me and a couple of buddy's putting $10 in the jukebox and drinking until our songs are over.

I have maybe a little bit divergent take on the Deep Eddy from some other folks:  oh sure, they're right about the pinball machine, smoky/hazy regulars and beer-first approach to business that's been the bread and butter of this place lo these many moons.

But I'm weird, so I kinda like the fact that you can grab some cold ones and they'll charge you something in the neighborhood of $1.60.  It's like Deep Eddy didn't get the memo when all the bars got together and agreed on drink prices.   So what you end up with is this great little dive with a penchant for making you save your rolls of dimes for more than the newspaper machine.

But hey, look at it this way:  thanks to Deep Eddy, you'll still have some left over to drunk-dial your friends...the old-fashioned way.

I work next door to Deep Eddy, but to be honest, I was always a little scared of actually hanging out here. However, I've recently been converted after going on a date here (this was after frito pie and Trail of Lights, maybe not classy, but such a good time), and couldn't be happier to have this little dive bar next to my office window.

They only serve beer, but it's cheap, and the pool tables are always full. It's a small place, and seems to always have a lot of people. Good place to meet up with friends, and Magnolia is across the street the cure your drunken desires for good food.

Deep Eddy is one of my favorite dive bars anywhere.  The jukebox is always playing good tunes and it does not cost too much to play DJ all night long.  There are pool tables and Golden Tee, but the real reason to come here is to pull a few tables together for all of your friends and drink keg beer for cheap!  Who cares if the beer is not that great, you are with your friends and you will not go broke.

Staff is awesome and atmosphere is so friendly that you might make a few friends at adjacent tables.  So pull up a seat, smile and enjoy the good times at Deep Eddy.

What an amazing little hole in the wall! A friend and I were on a Friday night "photo expedition" and went by here for their "Beer" neon sign. Part of our journey was to stop in places along the predetermined route and drink a round prior to moving on to the next place. Definitely had more than "a" round here. Couldn't beat the roughly $2 buck beer. Nor could you beat the inquisitive company of the bar patrons, even if we were in a conversation about two separate topics never finding the common ground.

I plan on coming back to this fine establishment for some more beer, tunes, and possibly some pool.

Small, quaint and not overly crowded.  They sell icy cold beer - pitchers of Miller, Lonestar at $8.00 & Shiner $8.40.  I didn't see any smoking inside (thank goodness).Smoking appeared to be in the hallway outside to the tiny patio.  There are 2 pool tables - 50 cents to play.

This screams everything a Dive Bar should be about! Seriously, this bar has it going! It has everything to make it a dive bar! Its old looking, its rusty, musty, has history, has great regulars and just makes you feel like you walked into another world. I love this place and I feel welcomed every time I walk in. They had some crazy 80 cent beer night when I went and I just couldnt believe it! That is something un-heard off! I dont know if its still true or have that special around anymore. But it was something I told my good friends about and they made it their local watering hole.

This place is small though, I wouldny say its great for large events or large amounts of groups. Its perfect for a place to sit down and drink your night away with someone next to you that is talking about their golfing game or world war II. I dont know, but you will have a blast! They had all types of fun board games and one of my favs! DOMINOES! Ok I still owe someone there some money because I got some drunk off cheap beer that I ended up leaving with out paying up. But If I find that person there again, Ill be more than happy to give them 20 dollars I owe them. :) It was of course a farmers bet and the money due was the money I was going to pay for his beers! :)

Regardless, we created a havoc there, we played dominoes all night and had a blast! The peoeple that go here are great and you will never seem to be amazed with the amount of trouble you run into here.

The parking is bad, but its not their fault. You have to park at the deep eddy pool area and walk up the small little hill to get there. But the place might be scary to walk into but dont be. Get on in there and sit your butt down at the bar and make some new friends.

Deep Eddy is a decent dive bar.  It's dark, old-looking, and has a good jukebox and $8 Shiner pitchers.  However, I am stuck comparing it to some of my favorite dives, where people tend to socialize with each other, and not just the group they walked in with.  I have never really see that happening at Deep Eddy.  I think on one or two occasions I've exchanged brief conversation with other patrons, but it's not the kind of place that seems to encourage much social interaction.  So if all you're looking for is to have some cheap beers with a few of your friends and maybe play some pool or Erotic Photohunt, go for it.  But if you're looking for something more upbeat and social, I think there are other bars in Austin that would fit the bill better than Deep Eddy.

It may be little but it is big on character. This is a great place to go after work, before going out, or to wind down after a night out.

The best part is if you get hungry, you can always walk across to Magnolia's or hit the Chevron and grab some candy bars and check out their wine selection.

I actually started coming here every day since i live so damn close.  They have Shiner pitchers for like 9 bucks.  Come  at happy hour 7-8 and its half off.  With a couple decent pool tables and Muddy Waters in the jukebox, you could easily meet your soul mate here.

Some reasons to like the Deep Eddy Cabaret.  It's not really a cabaret.  It's close to Deep Eddy Pool.  It was the first bar in Austin I ever got kicked out of.  They have bowling alley beer pricing, draft domestic beer - $1.80.  Dos Equis Draft - $2.20.  The old school regulars and younger types all get along with each other.  One of the Top 5 Juke Boxes in Austin.

Loves it. (So I no longer work at Abercrombie and no one at my current job says that...but it does do a wonderful job of summing up a feeling.)

Pitchers of cold light beer for $6.40. I thought it was Lone Star, the man friend says Natti Light. When you find yourself in a sweet hole-in-the-wall cash-only Saints bar playing Indian Poker with strangers with a deck of Hanna Montana playing cards, who really cares, right?

This was the final stop on our Margarita Bike tour, and seeing as they don't serve margs, but do serve AN ENTIRE PITCHER for the same price as one, we broke the rules. Erik was bloody, I was drunk, all in all we had no business being in public and certainly no business drinking more. which is probably why I called it quits after half a beer, gave our pitcher to our new pals next to us, and scooted out of there. (I almost made it home - a mere five blocks away - safely. I had wrapped a giant beach towel around my neck (?) and it must have cut off blood flow to my brain cuz I hit the curb and went flying head first into the sidewalk. Where I proceeded to do a fairly acrobatic roll - into a bed of prickly things. I was wearing a bikini top. Awesome. My left leg looks like it went through a meat grinder and I still cant brush my hair where I hit my head. Hurt like hell, but I crack up every time I picture what it must have looked like.)

Anyways, I'm so excited this place is so close to our house and we will absolutely be here come football season. Good people, cheap beer, music and pool....5 stars all the way.

PS. Returned here (sober, mind you) for a UT game and it was indeed just as awesome. I was one of the few women in there, so it was a little rowdy, but it was fun. Guys of of all ages (yes, even up to 80) yelling at the screen and one another, only pausing to drink and leer at me when I got up to use the restroom (I was wearing a mini skirt in a bar that has Caberet in the name, pretty sure I deserved it). Will definitely head back (in jeans) for another game!
